Elizabeth finds herself being warned off JP by Mrs. Ledbetter at the boarding house. She’s told that he isn’t interested in her type. Well, she doesn’t have time for that. Along with trying to find out answers to her questions, she is helping to rescue an orphan girl. She finds herself right in the middle of a murder mystery. A very entertaining book. The owl-hoot robbers (I love this) are such a hoot. The characters just pop right up in your mind. Aunt Maude’s scowling face is easy to picture. The town sounds like every small town, full of gossip and drama. Nice, clean, and easy to read. I highly recommend this book and this author.
One of those intriguing old-fashioned mysteries, Bittersweep is centered around a woman, who comes back to the town fifteen years after her family had to disown it. She takes up a job of a school teacher, and is determined to find the answers to the questions about her childhood. But, fate has other plans and she finds herself embroiled in a murder mystery. She becomes the talk of the town and is in the limelight for all wrong reasons. With a murder and a bank robbery, this story is much more than romance, it is an adventure ride. The plot is gripping and keeps you guessing till the end. I really enjoyed this historic fiction. A good read !
N.L. Holmes has written another fascinating story that tugs at your heart. Strength and courage are two themes that stand out in this book. From page 1, Uqnitum starts strong with her strength as the Assyrians overtake her city and she has to collect her family and try to escape. She fears for her life and her family. Raised without a mother, she grew up headstrong and doesn’t back down from a fight. In today’s world, we might call her “filter” broken. She and her family are taken by the the enemy. The loss of her son and husband chip away a bit at her strength and she seems to just lose it a little. Tatasshe, her daughter is pregnant. It comes down to the two of them. Uqnitum just thinks she is being helpful (control freak anyone?). Tatasshe wants to break free for her sanity and has to learn how to do that. With the help of new friends and unfortunately, a near tragedy, she is able to make that leap. Tatasshe makes strides to grown in her strength by speaking up and telling her mom what she wants. Supporting characters in the story are also written very well. The descriptions and characteristics made it so easy to have your own little movie running in your head. The plot line was so good. I felt every emotion. When Uqnitum’s husband was blinded, my heart stopped. I felt every emotion. This book is fantastic. Highly recommended.

Bittersweep by Wareeze Woodson is an American historical romance, set in Texas in 1897- this is a story full of mystery, suspense, secrets, danger, drama, hidden agendas, adventure, intrigue, romance, and more. This is my favourite of Ms. Woodson’s books, so far. I liked the storyline and the characters- I was swept away to 1897, ‘seeing’ the story unfold before my eyes. Even the issues that caused me some frustrating moments, didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. Elizabeth has arrived in Bittersweep to take up the teaching position that she accepted. She has a painful history with the town, secrets she must keep if she has any chance of uncovering the truth. That is until she has a chance encounter with the Chairman of the School Board. Things are off to an awkward, yet intriguing start. But with secrets to keep, sinister happenings, and hidden agendas- it’s not long before Elizabeth and JP are up to their ears in an investigation to track down a murderer, thieves, and a stolen horde of gold. Things are not as they seem. Will Elizabeth get the answers she needs to make peace with the past? Will JP have his way, and convince Elizabeth to take a chance on love? Bittersweep was another wonderful historical romance read from this author. I am really enjoying these books at the moment and I loved that this one was set somewhere different to that I am used to. I love this author attention to detail and I am always completely swept up in the stories and the characters. I feel like I am right there with them and can easily imagine everything that I am reading. I loved Elizabeth and JP, they were such great characters with an undeniable chemistry. I really enjoyed the mystery that was interwoven into the story and I found I just wanted to keep on turning the pages to find out just what was going to happen. There were also some really good secondary characters that I enjoyed reading about and they definitely added that additional layer to a very enjoyable story. I already have my next book by this author lined up to read and I cannot wait!
This is an intriguing old time, western romance and mystery. You are instantly drawn back to a time with horses and carriages, and gentlemen that treat a lady respectfully. There are secrets and prejudices that come to light in the small town of Bittersweep. All the while, Elizabeth, the school teacher is falling in love with the chairman of the school board- against her better judgement. When there is a murder and she is blamed who will come to her rescue?
You can’t help but love the characters and their need to find answers and to protect the innocent. This the second time I have read this author and I wasn’t disappointed!
This is a very interesting book. It’s very fasted paced. I like how each invidial women is portrayed. I like how each of these women become strong I hope their is more enegament in the next book to deepen the characters. Gigi, Ellen and Lilly each have a problem which they want to fix so they visit Dr. Kite.

I really enjoyed this book! It was different from the other N.L. Holmes books I’ve read in the sense that it wasn’t a mystery, but it was great! As a mother, I understand many of the things Uqnitum did as she tried to hold her family together, from being strong and unrelenting to being ready and able to tear apart anyone who tries to hurt my kids. I feel the setup of the journey Uqnitum and Tatasshe endured at the beginning helped to strengthen their reactions throughout the book. I believe it also does a great job setting an example of how we sometimes go through life with certain memories and “baggage” that we don’t realize are affecting those around us. This book had me nodding my head in understanding, pulled me in to see what would happen next, and even had me in tears a couple of times. Overall, it was a great read!

Captured by the Viscount is a wonderful period read. It is one of the most wonderful historical romance reads that is both romantic and has a comedy twist to it. I was intrigued by the blurb, even though the cover was pleasing to look at, one should never read based on the cover alone. Twenty-one year old, Lady Isabel Carlyle is in a dilemma. Her half-brother, Edgar, is squandering her dowry and stealing her jewels. Matt catches Isabel breaking into his house, he immediately sees a way out of his current need to find a wife before the month ends. A woman in some sort of dilemma, the man steps up to the plate. I just love how this novel came together and the storyline is just wonderful.

Bittersweep is a great historical romance novel from Wareeze Woodson. I have recently read a few books from this author and I’m becoming a big fan of her writing. I am more of a contemporary romance fan but Wareeze Woodson is giving me a love for historical romance. Moving back to her hometown of Bittersweep after 15 years away, and under a different name, schoolteacher Elizabeth Campbell is determined to find out what happened to her family. Chairman of the school board JP is taken by the new school teacher wants to find out more about her but she’s determined not to let him close. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the relationship between Elizabeth and JP. Both are characters that I really liked and could read about for hours. There is so much more to the story line than just the relationship between these two. I was really drawn in by the story and did not want to put this book down. It is very entertaining and keeps you drawn into the story right up to the very end. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more of Wareeze Woodson’s work.

An Enduring Love by Wareeze Woodson is an historical romance story. I have mixed feelings about this book. The premise was good, but boy did I not like the male MC. I have never wanted to do bodily harm so much as I wanted to inflict on him. He was an arrogant SOB with only a care in the world for himself. The angst and fear and horror that his wife went through did not even faze him. I almost gave up but kept going as I have enjoyed other works by Wareeze. My heart broke for and all she had to endure. This was not my idea of an enduring love for me. BUT that does not mean that you will not enjoy it so give it a go.

This is an author that I have enjoyed from the first book I have picked up of hers. This is a historical romance story that pulled me in from the beginning. One of the things I enjoy the most with this author is her writing skills and her attention to details. This book is no different and it is one of my favorites yet. This is a story about Rebecca and Rhys. They marry and he has gone home to his father’s death bed. Fast forward four years later, Rebecca and her son go to London only to find out that her husband is about to be betrothed to another woman. What will fate have in store for them? I enjoyed their chemistry and their growth throughout the story. All of the characters are connectable and truly made the story for me. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it

I could not put it down!! A must read! The authors ability to turn words into pictures really made me feel as if I was watching a movie rather than reading a book. The dialogue between characters is both interesting and intriguing. The town of Bittersweep is full of mystery leaving you wanting to read more. Do not pick up this book if you are looking for an easy reader that you can put down at will. The story of Elizabeth and JP will have you in its grips to the very end!! Wareeze Woodson is officially on my list of favored authors!!
Bittersweep by Wareeze Woodson is a well written book that keeps you interested from the first page through to the last. This is a pretty new author to me still and yet already I am starting to get a feel for how she likes to write. Her books are descriptive and developed well while the characters all have a depth to them. I loved the characters in this book. They got so well with the story and just seemed to bring it to life. I liked how it felt like this book was focused on the story and what was happening, so you could really get invested. This is an author I am pleased to have discovered and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.

Bittersweep by Wareeze Woodson. I really enjoyed this book. Its a historical romance about a young woman named Elizabeth Clarke who has returned to Bittersweep, Texas after being run out of town as a small child. Apparently the Clarke family was the first family in town to contract yellow fever and some men burned their house down with her deceased mom inside. Once again, I really enjoyed this historical romance by Wareeze Woodson. I happen to be a huge fan of historical romance, but if you aren’t, there is a nice amount of mystery and who done it to keep the reader involved. The book takes place in 1897 in Bittersweep, Texas. Elizabeth Clarke has returned to the town where her mother died under the false name of Campbell. She never plans on meeting and falling in love with JP Honeycutt. I loved trying to figure out who was involved in the bank robbery. The book keeps you guessing on all of the details until the very end. This one is worth every minute of your time!

Bittersweep by Wareeze Woodson is an historical romance story where one woman wants to know the truth of her past and returns to where it all began. Unfortunately, she becomes a prime suspect and gets far more than she bargained for. She becomes the talk of the town and the one who turns men’s heads. There are a lot of side characters and little tales of their own. With murder and rustling and bank robberies, and adventure this is more than just a romance story it is also a murder mystery and a cozy mystery all rolled into one.
Regency romances are the stuff of dreams, well at least my dreams. Ladies and gentlemen, Dukes, Earls, and Viscounts, what more could a girl want. For me I want intrigue and courage then a dash chemistry. This is the 2nd book I have read by Wareeze Woodson and it didn’t disappoint. Matt and Isabel are just the right mix to warm your heart.

I really do adore novels set in this era, especially when written as well as this one was. Wareeze Woodson did a wonderful job keeping true to the time, and I enjoyed every moment in this historical romance, with a huge dollop of mystery.
Oh, Isabel. Wanting to do the right thing, or possibly to smite her horrendous brother, she tries to stealthily return what was stolen from Viscount Rutherford. Her efforts landed her on the wrong side of a gun, and then with the choice of marriage or jail. I cannot blame her for her choice, truly. At that point I was giving the Viscount the stank eye myself though. But what followed was a story that earned every one of the five stars I’m giving it. I was enjoying the growth of Isabel and Matt, their romance and trying to figure out WHO!

I am a big fan of historical romance, and this story did not let me down. It takes place in the year 1802. We meet Isabel Carlyle and Lord Matthew Rutherford. Isabel desperately wants to get away from her half brother Edgar. Matthew doesn’t realize that Edgar is not trustworthy and that Edgar has been stealing from him. I spent a lot of the story wanting to scream at Matt and tell him to wake up! Neither Isabel nor Matt realize that they love each other. Enjoy reading how they discover their love and thwart the men who want to do them harm!

It is the year 1802 and Lady Isabel Carlyle is a twenty one year old woman on a mission to restore her possessions as well as those not her own, she is hoping to reclaim her family jewels and return some important bonds at the same time, it is a risk, but one she hopes can finally free her from her current living situation. Viscount Matthew Paul Rutherford is in a bind of his own, in order to find relief from his current living situation, he has to find a bride before the month’s end, however, he hasn’t had much luck so far, his last two betrothed suffered from fatal accidents before their nuptials, so he is losing hope now of ever finding one.
As Lady Isabel heads towards the empty residence of Viscount Matthew, she is soaked to the bone thanks to the dismal weather she has walked through, but she is determined to see her errand through to the end, so she approaches under the cover of darkness and manages to avoid the patrol of the guards and levers open the door of his study. As she quietly enters, she locates her missing jewels but just as she is about to place the bonds into a drawer in the large desk, when the inner door opens and she comes face to face with the Viscount who it appears is home earlier than expected and pointing a gun straight at her heart. As he approaches her, she is paralysed with fear, but as he empties the bag she was holding of her belongings, she considers escape, however, soon realises that it would be a fruitless endeavour and would probably only get her killed sooner. The Viscount is less than impressed with this little thief and intends to make it known, but when she replies that he hasn’t the right, he mirthlessly laughs and states that he would normally call the constable and have her arrested at this point, however, he is quite taken with her looks and fiery countenance, but when she explains why she was there and the circumstances behind it, he does not believe her.
As the Viscount considers the position he is in, he considers the young woman and as she tells him more of her story, he is more inclined to believe that she is a liar and a thief, but when she professes her innocence yet again and asks him to let her go, he considers his options and while doing this, he takes her up to a room in the house and binds her to a bed, after removing her wet clothing and says he will return shortly. While he is gone, Lady Isabel tries desperately to escape from her bonds, however, she is unable to and just causes herself more harm, but her mind cannot stay still and she goes through all her options over and over again and as unlikely as it seems this is actually a better option for her. After a while, the Viscount returns and gives her a choice, either she marries him, or he calls the constable and she will be sent to the city’s gaol, she is full of disbelief that despite being a sensible person, she has been put into this position and she sees no way out of it, but will she agree to marry the Viscount and try to make him see the sense in what she is saying, or will she risk the gaol and the life it will lead to? This is a historical romance with an element of the unexpected as the story develops and the characters draw you into their lives and encourage you to follow them through trials and tribulations until the conclusion is reached.

I absolutely loved the way this story started. Just go ahead and open it up in this unheard moment of a lady robbing a viscount. Pure genius. It hooks immediately, and you just have to keep reading to find out what happens. It’s easy to love the hero, Matthew, but personally couldn’t stand many of the characters. Maybe that was intentional. I will say that there were instances where I felt like the main characters did not stay in character. Overall, great plot and real characters.

I enjoyed this historical romance story. This is an author that I have enjoyed from the first book I have picked up of hers. This book is no different. This is a well written story that the author used attention to details to give the story a realistic feel. The characters are connectable and bring the story to life. This is a fast paced story that I had a hard time putting it down. This is a story about Elizabeth and her determination to find out why she had to leave without her mother. She now also finds herself in a new town with a new job. Then she meets Campbell and things heat up from here. I won’t say much more as I highly recommend picking up this book. It is a great story that is entertaining and easy to read.
Captured By The Viscount is a great historical romance by Wareeze Woodson. I have now read a few of her historical romances and have become a big fan of her writing. I was never a big fan of historical romance before but it is a genre that I’m now enjoying much more, thanks to reading Wareeze Woodson’s books. Captured By The Viscount had me hooked from the very first chapter when Isabel is literally caught by the viscount. Matthew, breaking into his home. The story flowed really well and kept me gripped right up to the very end. As well as the romantic story of Isabel and Matthew there is danger and intrigue as they try to work out who is trying to kill Isabel, and why. I loved the growing romance between Isabel and Matthew, although both have no idea how the other feels. This causes many amusing interactions between the two as they skirt around their growing feelings toward each other. If you like a historical romance with a bit of sexiness thrown in, then I’d definitely recommend Captured By The Viscount. It’s well worth the read.

This was a great 5 star read. This is my first read from this author and I really enjoyed it.
Lady Isabel is caught trying to right a wrong, however the Viscount doesn’t believe her intentions. He has been trying to find a wife and he thinks he has found the one that can help him. Will Isabel choose marriage or jail?
As these two spend more time together they grow closer. We get twists and turns that add a great element to the story. I loved the connection between these two. I really liked Lady Isabel, she was a strong character and The Viscount, all I can say is he was hawt and perfect. I was really happy with the ending. Bittersweep is a romance taking place in the late 1890’s Texas but it has a mystery aspect to it as well. The main character, Elizabeth, left Bittersweep when she was kicked out of town at 5 years of age. Years later, she returns with a school teacher job and under a false name. She has questions about her past and she thinks she can only get answers from Bittersweep. Elizabeth is a very stubborn and witty woman, also very pretty who can turn the heads of almost all of the men who see her. She meets a man by the name of JP who seems familiar but she can’t quite put her finger on it. All she knows is not to trust his last name.
JP is what you would picture when you imagine a stereotypical 1890s rancher. Strong, handsome, and intelligent but with a soft spot. Both characters are very likeable from the beginning. I was rooting for them to get together the first time they met. JP immediately has a soft spot for Elizabeth. Being in charge of most of the town, he was involved in finding out who, what, where, when and why of a body was found shortly after a bank robbery took place.
I really enjoyed this book due to all the different aspects it touched along the way. It wasn’t just a romance, which made it so much more interesting to me.
Everything a historical romance should be! Lady Isabel Carlyle is just trying to do the right thing when she breaks into Viscount Matthew Rutherford’s home. Little does she know, he is desperately in need of a wife. But for Lady Isabel, things aren’t as bad as they could be. In marrying the Viscount she is able to escape her half brother and his horrible cousin. And for the Viscount it provides him a wife after two engagements that ended in death for his betrothed.
Wareeze sets a perfect scene. The perfect amount of drama, intrigue, danger and romance with characters that are fully developed and carry the story well. I look forward to reading more novels by this author.

I really enjoy these Regency romances. The author does an amazing job of setting the scene and the details of how people act and their behaviour really makes you feel you are part of that era. This is a story about two people who don’t know each other finding themselves in circumstances which eventually grow into love.
Lady Isabel Carlyle needs to escape her half brother and his cousin. She plans to leave them all behind but first she wants to get back at him by returning the bonds he stole from his employer. However, her plans change when she is caught by the Viscount himself. Now she is face with a choice. Either she marries him or she goes to jail.
Viscount Matthew Rutherford needs a wife. After being betrothed twice and his intended dying in suspicious accidents he doesn’t think it will ever happen. However when he sees Lady Isabel in his study, he comes up with a situation to suit them both. She can either be sent to jail for theft or she could marry him.
When she accepts they now need to learn to live together and get to know one another from scratch. There is always the lingering doubt of is this a marriage of convenience or can love possible bloom. Also what happened to Matthew’s other brides to be and will the same thing happen to Isabel. Matthew vows to protect her from harm but will that be from someone they know or a unknown source.
