Faithful in Love (Cliff Walk Cousins Book 1) by Cecily K. Wolfe – Review by Kerry Carr

Faithful in Love (Cliff Walk Cousins, #1)Faithful in Love by Cecily K. Wolfe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Cliff Walk Cousins series. I really enjoyed this historical romance. The author does an amazing job of transporting the reader back to the 1900s. The writing makes you feel like you are backing living in that era.

This is the story of Faith and Nico. Faith comes from a very priviledge background. Growing up Faith and her cousin Thomas have always been close however as they get older someone threatens that relationship. That person is Nico.

Nico is so happy to get the apprenticeship at Will Travers architects. Things seem to be going good. Even better once he sets his eye on Faith.
As their relationship grows, Thomas decides this relationship can’t happen so trys everything in his power to stop them being together. However his attempts may not matter when a accusation of thief comes again Nico.
Now with Nico’s freedom in jepody can Faith keep her belief and trust in God to save the man she loves or will she lose it all?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in this Christian historical romance trilogy set in the early 1900’s in America. This is also my first book by this author. I didn’t read the first series but managed to get through this tale just fine. There are inspirational themes throughout the story along with some drama and twists and turns. The characters are likeable and have a strong family backing when things turn for the worse. Despite being from different classes in life and prejudice they find love. It is interesting and easy-to-read.

I loved reading this story. This is a new author for me which I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. This is a well written story where the characters pulled me in from the beginning. They kept the story not only engaging but entertaining to read. This is a fast paced story that kept me coming back for more. This was a hard to put down story where the author used details to make the story easy to read. This is a story about Faith and Nico. Faith is a Christian young woman who starts to fall for her Uncle’s apprentice. Nico is excited about the position he took with his Uncle but it could cost him his freedom when a friendship turns romantic. They are great characters who brought the story to life. They have great chemistry and growth throughout the story. This is a must read story that you will fall in love with. It is written with a lot of heart and soul. This is a really great story and I highly recommend it.

Bella: An Appalachian Love Story & Jagged Dawn: Logan’s Beginnings by Valerie Davisson – Review by Heidi Sturgess

Bella-An Appalachian Love Story & Jagged Dawn-Logan's BeginningsBella-An Appalachian Love Story & Jagged Dawn-Logan’s Beginnings by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was late to the party on this one and I’m most grateful for grace ❣️ I’m a firm believer in things happen for a reason and even with my books I believe I read them when I’m meant to and I read this later than I was supposed to because I believe it can at the right time , a time when my heart needed comfort , it felt like I was sitting at Norahs feet and listening to her story of how Bella came about and how Logan came to have the honour of having Bella .

Now this book is made of 2 books and while I’d love to honour each one in it’s entirety they really flow , go hand in hand and I’m so grateful I had this chance to experience it this way ….

In Bella I met Giovanni and I teared up more than once at the injustice some folk have to endure because of another’s greed but there’s always a silver lining and Giovanni eventually lives his dreams out with Norah and Elsie .

The way Giovanni describes how a he or even his “ teacher”!made a violin made me hungry to hear it’s beautiful sound and having played the violin myself for many years I actually had goosebumps on a few occasions! I think that’s where my love of classical music started , in any case I could hear the music in my minds eye and this story about Bella was so beautifully written ❣️

So I finished off Bella on a sad but beautiful note and I’m curious to learn more about Logan and thankfully all I had to do was turn the page to continue on my journey into “Jagged Dawn”

Logan is married to Jack who seems to enjoy his clients and liquor more than her and I had to try and keep an open mind and not take an instant dislike to the man , so be warned 🤞but there’s their daughter Amy , who’s independent and taking a gap year on a year long internship as an assistant to a photographer traveling through the African continent!

Then my blood runs cold while they’re at Antonio’s but it seems I was a little hasty and just as I catch my breath I near but have a panic ….poor Logan , I didn’t think I could read any further for all the tears and again I was treated for pushing through and now I’m just hungry for more !

This is a series that I absolutely love, and each book adds to it. So to get a chance to see how it all started was something I could not pass up. I was hooked on these short stories from the moment I started reading. Although both were quick reads I was drawn into was drawn ino each story and could not stop reading.
I love the way this author creates such additive stories. Her books all have a great flow about them, developed perfectly with amazing characters. This was a great way to continue a series I have come to love.

I had not yet had the pleasure to read anything by this wonderful author, but that has officially changed. I must say I am very much hooked. I fell in love with the writing of this author, and their use of fine details and how they used words, I really felt like I time jumped. It was amazing and a beautiful read.

I loved the book and as I said the use of fine details. The use of the words really made me feel like I was in that era of time. I loved that feeling, and the book was realistic when I read as one could get truly! I really felt a connection with both Faith and Nico. They were two souls that were not out to get anyone. They have to face things, that were not easy. Something I enjoyed on this book on the realism it held, was that not everyone in the town had best interests at stake I found. I loved how the book kept you guessing and how one thing led to another. I honestly was not sure how things would turn out. Loved this!

Amazing book and I do very much highly recommend you picking this one up, it is for sure one that is worth the read. I will be for sure enjoying more by this gifted author. They crafted a book that was perfect in every which way, and I really enjoyed reading it, and I would say that you would too!

Bella-An Appalachian Love Story & Jagged Dawn-Logan’s Beginnings are the two prequels in the Logan McKenna Mystery series by Valerie Davisson. Even though these tow books are part of the Logan McKenna Mystery series, they are quite different from the mysteries I was expecting. They are more like women’s fiction with a strong emotional component. This is two stories in one. The first, Bella, takes us way back in time (50+ years) and introduces us to Norah, who is Logan’s great-grandmother; and how she meets Giovanni, the Italian immigrant who hand crafts a beautiful violin, Bella, which goes on to become the family heirloom. A sweet and interesting story.
The second story Jagged Dawn comes forward in time to Logan, but set before Shattered (Book One in the series). Again, this story is more of a women’s fiction- with emotion and drama. It follows Logan through the loss of her husband and into an unknown future, following as Logan picks up the pieces to find a way to move on. Another interesting story that gives us a little more insight into Logan’s character, as well as her background story to the series.

Thank you, Valerie Davisson!

I’m completely blown away by these wonderfully written stories, both prequels for my favorite series The Logan McKenna Mystery Series. Both of these stories pulled me in from the beginning and I literally blocked put the outside world. I was so drawn to the characters and the story that went along with them. This author is one of my favorites and every book is my favorite. The first story we read about Logan’s great grandmother and about a violin that gets passed down several generations. My emotions were all over the place with this one. Loved it. The second is a short story that places us right before Logan’s world is shattered and its fast paced and just hard to put down as the first story. I highly recommend reading this book it’s definitely worth the time I can’t wait to see what this author brings us next.

Divine Vintage gripped me from the beginning. The whole concept of the series is entertaining. Tess opens her own vintage shop and the items she has for sale brings her back to the time from where they came. It’s quite a fun ride. Her characters are also realistic which makes loving them and hating them easy. Overall, quite an enjoyable read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Two stories in one, both prequels to the Logan McKenna Mystery series. Bella: An Appalachian Love Story, I loved reading about the hardships of a time so long ago. Being raised by her grandfather, which I can relate to as my grandmother raised me, Norah, finds happiness in the things her Aunt Leila taught her medicinally and her grandfather taught her musically. To be given a gift of a $7.00 violin from the Sears catalog was an amazing for Norah. I loved the way the story went from past to present, giving so much background and history.
Jagged Dawn: Logan’s beginnings, we meet Logan McKenna, the great granddaughter of Norah. Can Logan fight through all the ups and downs and have some new beginnings? And what is in the mysterious package?
I love the strong characters in these two prequels and cling to the fact that we can prevail through anything.

I can say without hesitation that I most certainly shed a couple tears during the love story of Norah, and Giovanni, and the connection that can only be shared by those with familial ties. I have experienced a couple of great losses within the last couple years and felt the emotions that this author wanted to convey on an even higher level. The artistry she includes within her writing style to allow the reader to fall deep into the Appalachian hills, the scenery described, and the lifestyle all hit the mark for me, and I couldn’t put it down.

Jagged Dawn brought to light this authors ability to really make you feel the main characters, their hopes, and wants, and dreams, and understand what a person will do and what they can withstand when they MUST. It ended a little abruptly, in turn, however, makes me want to read more! To me, both novella and the short story expressed hope, want, need, love, care, and understanding, as well as an independence of the characters that is both admired and envied. I have yet to read any of her other written works, but very much look forward to doing so soon. Looking for a quick, emotion-filled read? Pick this up, I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.

What could be better than two stories in one book and both prequels to one of my favourite series the Logan McKenna Mystery series.
Bella: An Appalachian Love Story is a beautiful story about a woman named Norah who is an ancestor of Logan, her great grandmother. She lives in North America where Appalachian culture is known for its literature and music. Giovanni is an immigrant from Italy, who moves to the area. When the two meet it creates beautiful music for the two.
Jagged Dawn-Logan’s Beginnings is a very short story which tells of tragedy and Logan’s beginnings. Through this tragedy she learns to rediscover the beauty that comes from the greatest gift in her life and that she can survive.
Both tales tell the story of love and loss, hope and beauty, pain and suffering, strength, and survival.

I had just began tis book today, and I finished both beautiful and moving stories in just one sitting. I was so moved, I was a violin player before, so this one really spoke to me at first glance. I did not expect my heart to feel so much as I read. Both stories impacted me, in more than one way.

For me in the account of both stories, I moved by the overalls story on both. Both involved a hope and a dream, and as well, a love like no other.. I found both came with a lot of love and a lot of sacrifice. I really connected with the characters in both stories. The author had woven a story on both accounts that gives feelings, emotions, and that impact you would only hope to gain from reading a story. I f finished both and I felt so much, I wanted more, I loved the writing technique and how the author drew me in and held me, and played a song on my own heart strings as I read. Beautiful written words, truly flowed throughout my reading. I thank this author for this beautiful gift they created. Loved this book!

The two stories, were both different but yet connected and flowed ever so perfectly. I was moved and felt I was watching a musical act that is best felt from within your heart. Loved this book, and loved the author. Highly recommend this book and author. I will for sure be reading more by this gifted author!

Tomb for an Eagle is a wonderful and interesting historical mystery. I have read quite a few historical fiction but no historical mysteries. This book did not disappoint. This is a well-written, well-developed book with interesting characters. I enjoyed going along for the ride with Ketil and Sigrid. I got hooked on these characters from the start and could not put the book down. It is absolutely a page-turner. This was a different kind of mystery experience that I definitely enjoyed. I recommend this for anyone looking for unconventional historical fiction.

The Bear at Midnight is the fourth book in the Orkneinga Murder Books. I was so excited to read this book after reading book 1, Tomb of an Eagle. I was so excited to see Thorafinn, who I read about in book 1. Also like book 1, it is set in Scotland in the Viking era. This is not a time period that I would have thought I enjoyed reading about but just like book 1 the magnificent storytelling and details draw you in. Once again Lexie Conyngham keeps you guessing while enjoying this tale. I highly recommend this book and this series for an intriguing story that keeps you on your toes.

Two deaths, one of old age, one of death, brings Ketil and Sigrid back together to solve who the killer is. Has long lost relatives compete to take over their deceased relatives home and power, things go awry and nobody is without suspicion. Although this is the fourth book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand alone. I’ve read the first and this book and didn’t feel like I was lost. The original characters continue to grow while meeting new ones in the series. It still amazes me how even after a few short paragraphs,I find myself disliking or loving a character. Just as you think you know the killer, bam, what a great ending.

Tomb for an Eagle (Orkneyinga Murders #1)Tomb for an Eagle by Lexie Conyngham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was a nice mix of historical fiction and murder mystery. This is the first book in the series and is the introduction to the village of Orkney and all the people within the village. Book starts with Sigrid finding an unknown body and the hunt for the murderer is on. At this time Ketil rides in so speak to the Earl of Orkney, Thorfinn and some distressing news. This is when the who done it really starts. I’m not usually a fan of historical fiction but I really enjoyed this book. It had a good mix of character development, mystery, and twists and turns. Sigrid and Ketil make a good team and I hope they continue in reigniting their friendship.

The Bear at Midnight (Orkneyinga Murders Book 4) by Lexie Conyngham – Review by Melissa Saxton

The Bear at Midnight (Orkneyinga Murders #4)The Bear at Midnight by Lexie Conyngham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jump right into political intrigue and well done historical mystery crime solving.

The leader of the hall of Buckquoy dies. There needs to be a replacement but there is no male heir. There is an illegitimate son, a nephew and a local all who could assume the role and an Earl has to decide.

The leaders wife, now a widow has a daughter who seems to have her favorite to take over, but when the daughter turns up murdered so many questions ensue. Who killed her, and why? is it to influence the selection of the leader? is the mother involved, is it completely unrelated?

this story is a great historical crime novel which will both let you learn of culture, political intrigue and hierarchy but also have you lost in this story desperate to find out what actually happened.

You won’t regret this read!

The Bear at Midnight (Orkneyinga Murders Book 4) by Lexie Conyngham – Review by Jennifer Gordon

The Bear at Midnight (Orkneyinga Murders #4)The Bear at Midnight by Lexie Conyngham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical crime novel and quickly got into the story despite not having read the previous books in the series. The storyline is set on the Orkney Islands during the Viking era and the author does a great job at bringing this period to life and making the reader feel immersed in the setting. Thorfinn has to appoint a new leader at Buckquoy but bitter rivalries emerge and a woman dies. Ketil and Sigrid must then work together to discover who the killer is, and defend themselves. Luckily this is not the first time they have found themselves in the middle of a murder mystery. I liked the main characters and found them likeable and relatable and could definitely tell they had chemistry between them, even if they didn’t. The book is written from both of their points of view which helped make me feel engaged with them and the story. The storyline flowed well and the plot had me hooked till the last page. I am keen to read the previous books in the series now.

Tomb For An Eagle (Orkneyinga Murders Book 1) by Lexie Conyngham – review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Tomb for an Eagle (Orkneyinga Murders #1)Tomb for an Eagle by Lexie Conyngham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

On Orkney’s, a resident of the local village is going about their day to day business when they are informed of an animal being somewhere it shouldn’t be and that they will need to go retrieve it before dark. When they get there, however, instead of finding the animal, they find a body, a body which has been buried using the old ways.

When the village leader is notified, a party go down to the burial site and retrieve the body, however, nobody knows who they are or who may have killed them, so the villagers try to figure it out.

Meanwhile, Thorfinn Sigudarson is returning to his Earldom in Orkney and Caithness from his latest trip, only to find that there has been a killing on the island and that it has brought with it ghosts from his past. This is neither welcome or expected for Thorfinn and so he has both a mystery to since and a past to revisit in order to secure his future, but will he be able to do it all, or with his past catch up with him first?

This is a historical fiction centred around a crime which nobody has claimed and a mystery he is reluctant to solve in case his own skeletons are revealed.
