Insatiable Darkness (Vigilant, #0.5)Insatiable Darkness by L.M. Preston
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What an intriguing introduction to this series. In this prequel to the Vigilant series L.M. introduces us to EmVee and her family as they move to a new area; Newport the family manage a gym, they are all interested in boxing and MMA. At school EmVee meets Rachel and Megan although they do not like each other, Silas and Kayson (both are into sports and members of a band). All is not quite As it seems.
The business her family are managing is also owned by Dean, who owns a local club, where the boys band plays, some of the locals seem stronger than they should, there are dead bodies found in the woods, having been mauled.
EmVee decides to investigate what is happening, will she manage to discover what is happening?
This book has great character development and the story certainly keeps you hooked and wanting more.

EmVee has moved to Newport with her family. She’s a strong athlete and it generally consumes her life But she may be willing to give up some time for two big gorgeous guys that have taken her interest.

But nothing in this town is what it seems. Why did they move here, what has her father gotten them into? Why are athletes disappearing or dead with littered body parts all over… and why does this annoying girl she’s met seem to know so much.

This was a quick read, though I enjoyed it I felt like I didn’t get to understand the characters very well as they weren’t developed enough and you were left wondering many things which I hope is remedied in the next book!
Overall 4 stars!

This book was amazing. A very intriguing, full of action, suspense, thriller mystery. It is a good short book that makes a good start for this series. The characters are very interesting and are very wonderful. There is an underlining mystery to these characters that really kept me wanting to know more about them. I was very hooked and couldn’t put this book down for the life of me and kept me on the edge of my seat. I really can’t wait to read more into this series. Very enjoyable.

Insatiable Darkness (The Vigilant #0) by LM Preston

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Insatiable Darkness is the first book in The Vigilant Series. I haven’t read a book like this before and it definitely won’t be my last.

EmVee is a human girl who moves to Newport with her family. When she gets there she learns that the town isn’t exactly what it looks like. There are things lingering in the dark and she isn’t sure what. The quote I chose for EmVee is: “I told the police Silas went out to the car to get something, and I waited. He didn’t come back. Then, when I went out to check on him, a wild dog attacked me from behind.”

Highly recommended for YA Fantasy lovers.

This is a great prequel story and it was really good to be able to add it to the series. I loved the new perspective it gave and the extra detail it provided. The book was well written and really easy to engage with. I was pleased that I read this first as it gave me a bit more of an expectation for the next book and it caught my attention enough to want to read that straight way.
The author has created a book that, for me, is a brilliant example of a prequel done well.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

EmVee moves to the middle of nowhere town of NewPort. Her parents won’t tell her the reason for the sudden move. Although EmVee is curious, she also decides to reinvent herself as the new girl at a new school. She meets various other students including football players Silas and Kayson, Megan who talks a lot and Rachel, a girl who works at her parent’s gym.

Secrets start to be revealed, when athletes are murdered and cheerleaders goes missing. In the midst, is a mystery of who is trying to attack EmVee’s family. She takes it upon herself to find out.

I was pleasantly surprised. Within the first couple of chapters, I was hooked. I know why it is part of the Vigilante series after reading this. The groundwork for this seems solid and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Insatiable Darkness (Vigilant, #0.5)Insatiable Darkness by L.M. Preston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was the first book I ever read by LM Preston, and it honestly sucked me in within the first couple of chapters. She does such an amazing job building the background of the story and getting the reader invested in the characters. EmVee and her family have recently moved from New York to a “middle of nowhere country town” of NewPort. Her parents are very secretive on why they suddenly moved. While EmVee is confused and slightly curious about the sudden move and the hush her parents have around it she becomes focused on school and “who” she wants to be.

In a new town EmVee finds herself wanting to reinvent herself in her new little town at her new school. She wants to be a “girly-girl” to the extent that she’s not in fights and being seen as another one of the guys. On the first day of school a whirlwind of things happens for EmVee. She meets two of the local football players, Kayson and Silas, both of whom seem to like her already. Though she is instantly drawn to Silas. In history class she meets Megan, a chatter mouth that loves to spread all the news she can. Meets Rachel, a fellow student that works at her parents’ gym, who becomes her first female best friend. Goes to the local club that Megan invited her too, dragging Rachel along so she’s not alone with the hard to be around Megan. While inside EmVee meets another football player, Grady, only to later discover his murder scene in the woods outside the club. After the current events and stories Megan has told her EmVee becomes more and more concerned about why her family suddenly moved when she finds contracts that tie her parents’ gym, the local club, Club Fixation, and a secret underground lab all seem to be related. Ten murdered athletes, ten missing cheerleaders, the secrets come out and shock you. After being attacked EmVee and her family are given a chance to escape NewPort. Until her family’s vehicle goes off the side of a bridge. She is saved and told her family is being helped but she has one goal. To find who is responsible and kill them.

The story, the ending, the details. Everything. If you love a mystery with twists and turns that you can’t put down, this introduction to the Vigilant series is highly recommended. I can’t wait to read Book One, Caged Fire, and see what happens next.

Insatiable Darkness (Vigilant, #0.5)Insatiable Darkness by L.M. Preston
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book follows EmVee and her family after they move to a new town. It is a great story about a girl doing what she can for her family. EmVee is a fighter with the hopes of taking that dream farther. You get to follow her on her journey to discover more about the mysterious new town her family has ended up in.

The book has a great storyline that is pretty easy to follow. It’s a great starter book for someone who has not read too much in the fantasy genre. I have not read much fantasy in the last few years so this was a great option. The fantasy aspect is not just thrown into your face which was a nice change from some other books in the genre.

It was very well written and I enjoyed that it was a quick read. I enjoyed that once I got sucked into the novel, I could finish the whole thing versus having to put the book down to sleep or go to work.

EmVee has just moved to a new town with her parents where they have opened a new business and they all have a passion for boxing and EmVee herself has a dream to go semi-pro with it and although this new place is small, she is hoping that she can still achieve that dream. So when she heads to school for her first day, all she can think of is that all the jocks are drop dead gorgeous and the cheerleaders are stunningly beautiful, but they are also quite strange, not to mention the other pupils there as well, who are also a bit unusual, but as soon as she arrives, she is befriended by two of the jocks, Kayson and Silas.

As she settles into a new routine and making new friends, she notices that things are a bit off and starts to worry that her parents have gotten in a bit over their heads and EmVee starts to suspect that things are not what they seem and she decides to investigate, but will she and her friends be able to solve the mystery before things go from bad to worse and the danger becomes too much? This is a fantastic prequel which gets you hooked into the mystery and the characters in the series in the best possible way and leaves you wanting more.

Insatiable Darkness (The Vigilant Book 0) by LM Preston

Insatiable Darkness is the prequel to The Vigilant Series and is a YA/Fantasy that’s packed with mythology, mystery, drama, and some supernatural. This is a very short story that can be read in one sitting. This is a fairly new author to me and I look forward to seeing what other books she has written. I was very intrigued by the storyline and the characters. The characters are fun relatable and fully developed. This is a story about EmVee. EmVee and her family move to a new town where her parents run a gym. They are professional Boxers and Emvee is as well. She starts a new school where something weird is happening. Several sports students have gone missing and whoever is doing it is leaving behind certain parts. Can they figure out who it is and why before its too late? There’s a couple of twists and turns that had me turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I don’t want to give away to much but I do highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

EmVee and her family moved to a new town called Newport. It did not take long for EmVee to realize that there was something strange about this town and find that her family was in danger. Insatiable Darkness follows EmVee while she tries to find who is threatening her family, unknowingly endangering her life as well.
The characters in Insatiable Darkness are relatable and mysterious. The story is full of twists, turns, and surprises. Some of the wording was awkward, making it not flow as smoothly as it could, which is why I did not rate it a 5-star. Still, Insatiable Darkness is a fun, quick read and sets the stage for the next book in the series.

Very quick introduction to the series. EmVee is the new kid in town, who moved in with her trained boxer parents. In an effort to make an impression, EmVee quickly makes some friends and gets the notice of a couple of good looking high school guys. After getting herself in trouble a couple of times, she has to resort to sneaking out to find out what brought her parents here, any why kids are going missing.

This book offers lots of surface information, and quickly. It doesn’t get terribly involved, but keeps you interested in the story and coming back for the next in the series!

EmVee has just moved to a new town with her family. Her parents own a gym, which caters to those of the MMA world. EmVee is training to be a MMA fighter. Everything about this town seems all cool at first, until school starts. There is a lot of suspicion, EmVee learns, about the house that her parents have chosen for them to live in. Some very sinister things have apparently taken place here. Oh, and this school is full of some hot boys but EmVee has sworn off dating. Guys don’t like her once they find out she’s a fighter. EmVee is trying her hardest to change her hardcore image but this girl at school is draining her social battery faster than she can handle. Can she shake her off while keeping this new image?

This is a prequel and a super short, one sitting read. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline, and the action that takes place. I look forward to reading more of this series!

This book is amazing. I was entranced from the minute I started reading. EmVee and Kayson seemed to have the most chemistry but then there was Silas. Rachel seems like a good friend, and then there is Megan. I don’t think any of these people are what they seem and EmVee is stuck trying to figure out why her family was brought to this town in the first place, what her dad has to do with any of it. The ending of course left me dying for more, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Being a strong female athlete comes with its disadvantages yet her new school appears to have some individuals up for the challenge. Will this finally be a place she fits in and finds a suitable partner? I enjoyed all the twists and turns during this rollercoaster story. This book is in the YA genre and I feel that anyone would appreciate this book if they like supernatural stories. This book is a very quick read and can be finished in a day. The characters in this story have great depth and feel real emotions that any teen would feel in this type of situation. Moving to a new town can cause anyone some anxiety but throw in missing kids and it just hits different emotions. This is also a prequel to the series and I am hoping it will give some more background into the characters as the series continues. I felt a little disconnect with them during this story but not enough to make a huge difference. The mysteries in the book keep you hooked throughout and turning the pages to see what happens. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series to continue to build on these characters and to continue the mysteries. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a quick read with lots of mystery.

EmVee is a strong MC this this book. She is a high school boxer from a family of professional boxers. She first feels like an outsider as once usually does when one moves to a new town. She then meets Silas and Kayson and she starts feeling like she belongs. Just as she feels this way teens start disappearing and nobody knows what’s going on. The twists and turns in this prequel made do lots of double takes and scratching my head! I enjoyed reading this and the characters were likeable. The writing was done well and had a good pace to it. Insatiable Darkness YA fantasy story and an intriguing story and an interesting prelude to the series. The story is written in third person and I felt a slight disconnect with the main character, I think I needed more backstory for them. It also took me a few chapters to get into the story. Having said that it does not mean that the story didn’t have all the elements to be a good story. The story is fast paced and not quite as cohesive as I would have liked. It is a short tale that I would have liked to see a bit longer. As this is the set up for the series, I am hoping we get more in future books.

There is mythology and mystery, danger and supernatural/paranormal beings, magic and more that I am sure that any YA fantasy lover will enjoy.

Insatiable Darkness is the prequel to The Vigilant series by L.M Preston. It is a novella length story- so it is a very quick and easy read. Having said that, I wished it was a little longer and that we got more character info and more in-depth details, as I felt like sometimes things seemed skirted over, too condensed, choppy/jumpy, and/or a bit rushed. That’s not to say that I wasn’t intrigued by the story, or that I didn’t enjoy the book- because I was, and did. But I just felt like I wanted more, and I was left with so many questions at the end. I am hoping that as this is the prequel in the series, and with this book setting us up for the story to continue, that we will get more answers/detail in the coming book/s.
This is a YA fantasy with mystery, danger, investigation, the supernatural, mythology, and school/teen drama. It has a mysterious vibe that was quite intriguing, too. I liked EmVee and the potential that this prequel holds for the rest of the series- so I will certainly purchase the other books to see what the author has in store for us.

Thank you, L.M. Preston.

This is a really interesting young adult book. The book itself can be read in one sitting and I got that it is a prequel. The story really wets your appetite for what is to come and I can’t wait to see where this story will lead.
The author does an amazing job with the characters. Our leading lady EmVee is a very strong willed and confident person and when she realises something isn’t right with the town they have moved to she doesn’t stop until she get answers.
So begins a tale of mystery, secrets and paranormal occurrences which leave the read questioning everything and wanting more.
As well as all this we have all the teenage angst as well with regards to emotions, relationships between friends and crushes and also learning who to trust and who not to.

This book is fast paced and gripped me from the first page. I can’t wait to see what the series has in store

EmVee is a strong female character that is trying to find her place in the new town she and her family have moved into. Little does she know that it’s a town full of secrets and nothing is as it seems. Two boys like her but no one has time for attachments. With the help of her new BFF Racher, she works to discover the secret her father is hiding. Even being a young adult book, this book is a fascinating fantasy. I was pulled in from the start because she is the child of two professional fighters and is training to be a fighters. That is not something usually seen in teen girls. I love the different approach to the story. Strong female characters are a really nice thing to see. The plot line was flawless and had a really great plot twist. Silas was written in such a way that he felt creepy from the beginning. So pushy and had to be the top jock. Kayson felt like there was more to him, especially at the end. This was a terrific story that has me planning to read more of the series. This is a standalone but there is a series that goes with it.

Such a intriguing mystery, full of action, suspense, and everything I would hope to find in such a triller. Of course, the characters were all wonderful, and brought and added their own sense of personality and wonder to the story! I was hooked, and very much invested as I read.

The book was amazing with wonderful characters of different kinds that brought on very much wonder and triumph to the story, and the mystery that surrounded these characters really fascinated me. I was hooked the entire way through. I loved how the mystery held more than I first thought at first glance. Sometimes the obvious is not well, as obvious as it seems. I learned that one for sure from reading this book! I was hooked, amazing writing, and story line! So good from start to finish! Loved it!

Such an exceptional book full of its own magic! I was hooked and very much could not put it down! I loved it truly from start to finish! Amazing writing and author! Highly recommend this must read book!
