My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Unchained Memory by Donna S. Frelick is the first book in the Interstellar Rescue series. This book is a great mystery that will have you hooked from page on.
This is such a well written book. It is interesting from the word go. You are drawn into the story so easily. The characters are strong and engaging. You want to find out more about them. You want to get to know them that bit more. And the writing is amazing. The authors attention to detail is fantastic. She really knows when to add in the detail and when to withhold it for the development of the story.
Once I had started this story I found that I couldn’t put it down. Thankfully I had the afternoon free to read as I’m not sure what I would have done if I had to walk away for even a short time. The book was well paced and never lost momentum for even a second. You should definitely try to this book, even if sci-fi isn’t usually your thing.

I enjoyed this suspense romance story. I enjoyed this author’s creativeness with the plot as well as the characters. They were able to pull me into the story right from the beginning. This is a story about Asia. She has lost three hours of memory along with everything she values in her life. One man risks everything for her, the problem is she isn’t supposed to love him. The twists and turns along with the battle that is raging kept me turning pages until the end. I highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars

The story Unchained Memory (Interstellar Rescue Series Book 1) by Donna S. Frelick is a science fiction book. It has a way of pulling you in and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had read the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Asia Burdette and Ethan Roberts. Asia is a woman who is independent, strong, and intelligent. She is also determined to find out what happened to the three hours that she can’t remember. Ethan is a psychiatrist who has compassion for his patients. He is determined to help Asia. What does the future hold for Asia and Ethan? Will they get the answers that they are looking for? Read this book to find out. The story has suspenseful moments when I wondered what was going to happen next. There are also romantic scenes that will make the temperature in the room rise. I grew to care about Ethan and Asia with each chapter that I read. I wanted them to succeed and find happiness. There are other additional characters that are introduced. Many of them are helpful to Ethan and Asia. Then there are those with their own agenda. Don’t miss out on a book that has action and adventure. I highly recommend reading it.

As a military brat growing up, I was a voracious consumer of science fiction in all forms—in books, in movies and on television. As I grew older I began to recognize that my favorite forms of SF included liberal doses of romance—Classic STAR TREK, the writers of the New Age “humanist” revolution (Zenna Henderson, Ursula K. LeGuin, Theodore Sturgeon among others), and later THE X-FILES and AVATAR. So it was no surprise that when I started writing science fiction, my work would feature a heavy romantic arc, too.

Along my way to a science fiction romance writing career I’ve been married to a great guy since just out of college, been a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa, raised a family (two girls, three grandkids), tried organic farming, been a community activist, earned black belts in two different styles of martial arts and written four STAR TREK fanfic novellas (and numerous short stories) for “underground” publication. (Ask me sometime about TREK conventions!)

In 2012, my first two SFR novels finaled in the Romance Writers of America® Golden Heart® contest for unpublished manuscripts. Shortly thereafter, I found my first literary home. Unchained Memory was released from INK’d Press in February, 2015. Trouble in Mind followed in February, 2016. The third book in my Interstellar Rescue series, Fools Rush In, debuted in October, 2016 and promptly won a coveted SFR Galaxy Award. You can read the first chapter of Trouble in Mind for free in the popular Portals anthology (Volume One).

The fourth novel in my series, Not Fade Away, launched in 2018 and is also a winner of the SFR Galaxy Award. With the demise of INK’d Press, all my Interstellar Rescue series books are now under my own imprint but can still be found on Amazon.

I’m a member of the Romance Writers of America, the Science Fiction Romance Brigade, the Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal Chapter of RWA, the Golden Network (of past and current Golden Heart finalists) and the Firebirds (2012 Golden Heart finalists).

Currently I live on 43 beautiful mountain acres in Marshall, North Carolina with my husband and four disruptive pets plus the other members of our small intentional community.

Not Fade Away (Interstellar Rescue Series Book #4) by Donna S. Frelick – Review by Angela Hayes

Not Fade Away (Interstellar Rescue, #4)Not Fade Away by Donna S. Frelick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not Fade Away is the fourth book in the Interstellar Rescue Series by Donna S. Frelick. Ms. Frelick is a new-to-me author and I found this book was a great introduction to her style and has given me some new books to add to my TBR. Even though this is the fourth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing part of the story. There are other recurring characters in this story who really intrigued me, and I definitely want to go back and read the other three books and catch up on their stories, too. This is a bit of a racy space adventure- so it’s a science fiction full of aliens, assassins, danger, action, adventure, mystery, secrets, intrigue, and a hot romance.
Rafe Gordon is a Rescue Agent and soldier who has been fighting Alien Slavers since he was old enough to carry a weapon. His father is a bit of a legend among the Interstellar Rescue, but is now a shell of the man he once was, now confined to a wheelchair, while dementia ravages his mind. Rafe is honouring his father’s wishes by bringing him ‘home’ to earth- a place he hasn’t seen in 60 years. But soon find they have been targeted by an assassin, who is hunting them through the galaxy.
Charlie McIntyre is a Home Health Therapist and registered Nurse who works with dementia patients and their families. Her world is turned upside down when a new client moves to town. There is something different about the old man and his sexy son- and she has a strange feeling about them and the case. She’s not interested in any kind of romantic relationship because she had a bad past experience that still haunts her, plus she doesn’t get involved with clients. But the chemistry that bubbles between Rafe and her, is becoming harder to resist. What happens when they give in to their desire? When secrets are exposed, and danger comes calling, will their blossoming romance be strong enough to survive? Can Rafe keep them all safe?
This was a great story, even though I initially had trouble ‘getting into’ it. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something about the flow of the story was a little off for me and I struggled with it for about a quarter of the book. Then things change, the flow got much better- and I was hooked. The story weaves from past to present and back again many times through out the story- unravelling a lot of the backstory and ‘motive’ for the situation they find themselves in. Ms. Frelick cleverly wove the past and present together into a smooth and intriguing read.
The book has a lot of characters to keep track of, and the story is told from multiple POV’s- giving it a lot of added information and interest. Ms. Frelick orchestrates all the characters and perspectives very well and blends them into the story without any kind of confusion.
There is definitely more to this story than first meets the eye, and I will certainly be reading more of Ms. Frelicks work, for sure.

Thank you, Ms. Frelick!
