Wrong For Him
Love Lottery
Book 3
By Christi Barth
☆☆☆☆☆
This is a story of chance. It all started out as a small group of friends and the struggles life has offered them. By chance lottery tickets were bought and someone got the prize of a lifetime. There is a secret stirring of a romance. Amelia wants more from Teague and he feels the same. But the two fight their inner thoughts. Now working together every day could be a challenge. How will Amelia and Teague keep from letting their hearts be known. Will this cause hardship between them and Alex? Afterall Alex is Amelia’s big brother and Teague’s best friend. Reading this story could answer those questions.

Christi Barth, WOW! Christi Barth has written a 3rd book to this series. It will draw you in just as the others did. It opens more hearts than the characters alone can. The characters are a true balance of friends, ones we would love to know ourselves. Once I started I could not put it down. This story has all the feels of a strong romance. I truly enjoyed reading Wrong For Him. I recommend you read the complete series, as it is a building of friendship, and a story of love. Well Done Christi Barth. Well Done!

Death under Palm Trees (A Jack and Frances mystery Book 4) by Carmen Radtke – Review by Moriah Venable

Death under Palm TreesDeath under Palm Trees by Carmen Radtke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Death Under Palm Trees is a fourth novel in the Jack and Frances mystery series by Carmen Radtke.

Jack and Frances are supposed to be guests at a New Years party but instead are asked to help in solving the theft of government documents.

With help from others, they go undercover in hopes of catching who stole the documents. In the meantime, there is a murder that needs to be solved.

I have not read the previous novels in this series but this was so much fun to read! I will have to go back and read the previous novels to learn more about the characters and their interaction as well as the other mysteries that they solved.

The time period was fun to go to. It had a Great Gatsby vibe to it.

Weep, Woman, Weep: A Gothic Fairytale about Ancestral Hauntings by Maria DeBlassie – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Weep, Woman, WeepWeep, Woman, Weep by Maria DeBlassie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mercy is a woman, a woman both haunted by her past and trapped by it, she lives in Sueño, New Mexico, she is stuck between the Rio Grande river and the Shadow Lands which are haunted by the spirit of the Weeping Woman, or La Llorona as she is also known. La Llorona roams the riverside and weeps and wails at night for the husband she lost to another and the children she drowned to spite him, however, when she realised what she had done, she herself drowned in the river which is where she now draws unsuspecting female victims to drown and join her in a watery grave. All the women and girls in Sueño are taught from a young age to fear her and avoid the river banks at night as well as keep their sadness in check, for it is when they are at their most vulnerable that the Weeping Woman will come to take them away, for she has marked their families in the past and although the mark dilutes over time, it still exists and makes anyone with that mark a stronger connection and a destined target for La Llorona.

Mercy had learned from a young age not to count on anyone but herself and that her only future was with a man to whom she will bear children, with the hope of them being sons and not daughters and keep whatever happens between them behind closed doors, however, she and her best friend have bigger dreams, dreams of leaving Sueño behind and all the sorrows which dwell there. However, this was not to be when shortly before they could enact their plans to leave, her best friend is taken and Mercy’s life is forever changed as she battles not to become the next victim, so Mercy works hard and builds up the money so that she can finally accomplish the dreams of a childhood lost to sadness and heartache.

As the years pass and Mercy works her land, she cannot escape the call and one day finds herself at the riverbank just before sunrise and after a fierce storm, where she is dragged into the muddy, unclean waters of the marshy riverbank, but she is saved by a man in more ways than one that day and again, her life changes. Mercy soon realises that she has not escaped unscathed from the attack and now she has been given a gift thanks to the Weeping Woman, but will Mercy find a way to live with the changes, or will this gift turn into a curse stronger than she can break? This is a twisted fairy-tale melded with gothic horror in a town where nothing is as it seems and people sweep things under the carpet so they can try to forget and avoid the haunting events surrounding them.

Born to Fight (Can’t Resist You Book 1) by Brittany Anne – Review by Emily McCoy

Born to Fight (Can't Resist You, #1)Born to Fight by Brittany Anne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you are looking for a good dystopian book, with a rebel cause and a steamy love story this is the book for you! Born to fight is the first book in the ‘Can’t resist you’ series! Rain has been living alone for two years escaping a past that is hunting her down but when she meets hunter bloody, bruised and barley breathing she knows she must do something to save him. Hunter is the leader of a resistance; the very thing Rain has always wanted to believe in but had lost all hope for. While Hunter is in a coma like state, he hears her talking, singing, and feels her taking care of him. Once he awakes, he realizes what had happen he is in awe of her but knows that he is in a position that is much bigger than the sparks flying between them. They both have a past to overcome but the big question is can they??
I fell head over heels for this book, the characters were great, the growth and development they showed really comes out in this book! I think Brittany Anne did a brilliant job with this and I am so excited to see what else is to come with this series!

A great series starter
This is a very entertaining YA fantasy read. It had something for everyone who loves a good paranormal. Witches, vampires, hybrids along with drama, a hint of romance and whole lot of mystery. True to Tricia Copeland’s writing style, the story is filled with imagery and a depth that brings you right into the character’s world. A brilliant new series that has me hooked.

Whisper Creek: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 7 by Valerie Davisson – Review by Shelly Kittell

Whisper Creek (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 7)Whisper Creek by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one of the best purchases I’ve made for a mystery. The action sets you up from the beginning and slowly develops until you don’t realize that you are in the middle of it and you just can’t put it down. Logan gets in the middle of thins to help her friends. I loved the action. A book that can keep me pulled in with action in the story is a great story. It’s hard to stick with stories that drag. Logan and the other characters just mesh so well that the plot intertwines in such a way that you want to know who did it. I love playing sleuth. Wonderful descriptions, her details of the coast are terrific. This book is a must read!!! Highly recommend.

5 +++++++ Stars

I picked up this book purely off the cover! I wasn’t sure I would connect to it because of the genre but took a chance because it wasn’t a long book. I’ve read a couple other books by this author and they were good, but THIS ONE?? It truly might be one of my favorite books this year, and I’ve read some pretty awesome books so far this year, I guarantee though that this sits up with my top faves.

Not sure if it was the way it was written but I’m pretty sure that plays a huge part. It felt like I was sitting at a table with a friend and she was telling me her story! I seriously hated when this book ended, I could have read on for hours. I’m really hoping this author decides to add another book to this story. It flowed beautifully and I kept trying to slow myself down, but that was impossible.

If you’re looking for a book that has just about everything you could ever want in a story then pick this up today! The emotions depicted are amazing and you find yourself feeling every one of them.

Loved it so so much! Can not wait to read it again!

Engaño (The DeWitt Agency Adventures Book 2) by Lance Charnes – Review by Angelina Frazzini

Engaño (DeWitt Agency Adventures, #2)Engaño by Lance Charnes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Engaño by Lance Charnes is book two of The Dewitt Agency Adventures. This book has a little bit of everything. There is action, suspense, danger and don’t forget the plot twists.

Carson is fearless and tough. So when she has to pay back loans her father skipped out on, she does what she needs to do. This time she has to track down Viktoriya Baranova, daughter to a Russian cabinet minister, and get her back home. Seems easy on the surface but Carson gets drug in deeper than she expected. She can hold her own but it nothing appears to be as it seems.

I enjoyed this book. Carson is so fierce and independent. All the characters were honestly well developed. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next!

Tenacious (Billionaire Bodyguards Book 6) by Via Mari – Review by Tracy Wilkin

Tenacious (Billionaire Bodyguards # 6)Tenacious by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Queen of bossy, filthy rich alpha man is back. Bringing yet another dramatic and passionate story that blows the mind. These stories make you weep and salivate. The hotness is almost unbearable. Almost. The challenge that is these characters draws you in and nothing else matter but finding out more. Reading that next chapter becomes the most important thing in existence. Via Mari has this genre all worked out and delivers a drama perfectly and with razor sharp precision. Target is hit every single time.

Tenacious was everything dreamy about this trope. As far as the characters so far in this series, I loved Allie and Nick the most. There was just a little something more that stood out in their story. That extra chemistry between the two. The magnetic desire that literally pulsed through the pages made this book seriously difficult to put down. The dialogue was forward and nothing withheld. I loved the tenacity that was the emphasis of the story. Pretty much every aspect of Tenacious I loved. This author executed the perfect story and I simply could not get enough. Bring on more of these sexy men and their divine ladies. 5 stars.

Death under Palm Trees (A Jack and Frances mystery Book 4) by Carmen Radtke – Review by Angelina Frazzini

Death under Palm TreesDeath under Palm Trees by Carmen Radtke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Death Under Palm Trees by Carmen Radtke is book four the the Jack and Frances mysteries. This book can be read as a standalone without missing too much.

Jack, Frances and Uncle Sal are in Nice attending a party as the guests of honor. Of course, mystery never sleeps though and they are needed to go undercover. Can they solve the theft issue or will they fail to keep their undercover roles?

It was interesting to watch them go undercover while trying to pretend they don’t know each other. It gave an added layer of suspense, wondering if they would be found out. There is a lot of secrets and suspense throughout the story keeping you on your toes. The characters seemed well developed and you can tell a lot of work went to making everything seem authentic. While not my normal read, it was good!

Amy Argent is the author of Come Back Tomorrow and its sequel, Whatever Tomorrow Brings.  Amy can honestly say she writes day and night —clinical trial documents as a medical writer by day and contemporary romance as a novelist by night . . . and possibly into the wee hours of the morning.  She has a PhD in Genetics that she agonized entirely too much over, but it did result in a fascinating day job—the details of which tend to creep into her fiction.

Amy can be found in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband, two teenagers, and two hedgehogs, where she’s most likely planning her next departure from reality —destination: Dragon Con, the closest Renaissance Faire, or the nearest book.

Amy has always been fascinated by the many ways people cope with the human condition. Her stories explore the emotional journey we take when adversity drastically changes life’s course, but being an eternal optimist, she’s found her niche in soulful stories with silver linings.  In truth, they can always be found if one is willing to look for them.

This book was amazing!! First of all, the main character is a strong-willed, intelligent woman, and those are always my favorite characters to read. Secondly, it’s well written and kept me engaged throughout the entire story. Thirdly, the interactions between all the characters in the midst of the conflict were so realistic. I really enjoyed seeing different themes touched on throughout the story that are happening in the real world too, in a way that made sense for the story.

The Guardian’s Legacy (The Coin of Time series Book 1) by Luciana Cavallaro – Review by Angela Packard

The Guardian's Legacy (Coin of Time, #1)The Guardian’s Legacy by Luciana Cavallaro
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nik Zosimos teaches high school and leaves before a department meeting due to a strange text followed by silence from his grandfather. Nik’s papou tells him that he could be the next keeper of a 2500-year-old coin, but to think on it to make sure this is what he wants. Nik can not be told more than that before his decision is made. If he chooses no, he will know nothing else. If he chooses yes, he will begin to train.
Nik, like his grandfather is passionate about history. I have never been a fan of history but even I recognized names in this story and got excited. Helen of Troy, Aphrodite, the Iliad, the connections made to so many years earlier, of one small coin that started out as a rock is exciting.
Nik is confronted with a schedule that has him almost double thinking his decision to jump in. He begins to learn the history of the coin, while training in weapons, working out, and reading the vast library at his grandfathers. Nik must be prepared for anything. Including knowing that there may be a second coin that if both coins ended up in the wrong hands could cause catastrophic danger. This was a great read and look forward very much to the next book. Thank you Luciana Cavallaro for making even me excited about history, myths, and tales passed down from one generation to the next.

Weep, Woman, Weep: A Gothic Fairytale about Ancestral Hauntings by Maria DeBlassie – Review by Vanessa Watts

Weep, Woman, WeepWeep, Woman, Weep by Maria DeBlassie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The title of this book doesn’t quite do the authors storytelling any justice. This is a truly powerful novel that every female should read once in their lives. As we follow the main character Mercy through all the sorrows her life contains, we see that it is all too easy to become wrapped in the sorrows of our past.
Mercy loses her very best friend to La Llorona and almost herself. It seems living in their small town of Sueno all the females are within her grasp and once she pulls you under no one can escape her. That is until Mercy chooses to defy her by not letting the sorrow of the weeping La Llorona to pull her under and instead focuses on happy thoughts to save her. This is a big about growing to be more than what your past dictates in a retelling of the story so beautifully written that you are feeling everything the characters feel. This brings about sadness, despair, depression, love, and hope for a better tomorrow. With a good moral of the story that we are only limited by what we chose to give a piece of our heart and soul too. It is all to easy to play the woe is me card, but it takes an inner strength to stand your ground when things get tough. Most females have gone through or experienced what the main character goes through and that is truly what makes this book so impactful. If you haven’t yet, I encourage you to take this journey with Mercy, this is one book you don’t want to miss.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This book really took me in from the first page of the story. I was not sure what to expect at first, but so glad I read this book and loved the dystopian feel. Hunter is a soldier with the “Resistance”. Objective is to take down the UNR (they are bad). Rain has been alone for 2 years in her safe haven of a bunker, in hiding. When Hunter is left out pretty much for dead, Rain discovers Hunter and nurses him back to health in her bunker. Heat and chemistry between Rain and Hunter sizzles. There are secrets to be discovered, and the world falling apart will Hunter and Rain be together? Definitely read the book to find out. Highly recommended!!

Engaño (The DeWitt Agency Adventures Book 2) by Lance Charnes is probably one of the best suspense thrillers I have read this year. This book is full of everything that a suspense reader could want including adventure, car chases, shootings, and of course a couple of steamy scenes. Lance Charnes gives us a brilliant plot, Incredible characters, and vivid descriptions that hook his readers from the very beginning. This addition is an incredible installment to Mr. Charnes series, and personally I enjoyed reading it as much as the first novel in the series of not more. So if your looking for a suspense novel to grab ahold of you in the first chapter and take you on a roller-coaster ride then look no further than Engaño (The DeWitt Agency Adventures Book 2) by Lance Charnes.

Kingdom of Embers (Kingdom Journals #1)Kingdom of Embers by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading the synopsis I was a little nervous that I would not like this book after all I have never read or watched anything to do with vampire diaries. However, I am adventurous when it comes to reading and am willing to pick up a book not fitting within my normal selections. I am so glad I did just that because once started I could not put this one down.
Alena is so relatable with all the trials and tribulations she must go through as a teenager, add in being half vampire and half witch this just spells disaster. She already knows that her kind is forbidden because having no dominant side to her abilities and not having any weakened human qualities makes her someone that vampires and witches were taught to fear. This leads her on a journey of discovery of not only her powers but her own significance in this world which is relatable to everyone on this planet. When she meets someone like herself known that there are two forbidden children out there and the age-old battle of good vs. evil. Who will come out on top? As soon as I finished this book, I went out looking for the second one in this series. They are beautifully written, completely bingeable books that will leave you on the edge of your seat never expecting what might come next. Do yourself a favor and read this book, you won’t regret it.

Kingdom of Embers (Kingdom Journals #1)Kingdom of Embers by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Usually a vampire book can go either of two ways “I’m a brooding vampire pity me” or “I’m a bloodthirsty vampire fear me!” Kingdom of Embers takes those two and burns it up in flames. Alena is a kick ass vampire witch hybrid, that takes no crap from anyone. The story progresses at a reasonably pace. Each page has you wanting more. The cliffhanger at the end is no help whatsoever. It makes you question so many things and demanding answers! I can’t wait to read the next book and see what is in store!!! Well done! I couldn’t recommend it enough to my friends!!!

I read ‘Stranded’ together with my 8 year old daughter, and we both loved it. One of her all-time favourite places and themes is the ocean and it’s inhabitants, so she was easily enchanted with the story and characters. I was pleasantly surprised at how much we both learned along the way as well. ‘Stranded’ was the perfect bedtime story for someone in grade three.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read from this author and now she has a new fan. I love a good paranormal story but she exceeded all my expectations. This is the first book in the series of Kingdom Journals and it is a great way to start the series. I could not put this book down until the end. These characters drew me right from the start of the story and it only took me a day to devour this addictive book.

Alena Scott is not your ordinary teenager. She is a mix of witch and vampire which is unlawful in her world. Alena is a senior in high school and she wants to fit in but she knows she is different. She is shocked when she finds someone that brings her back to her childhood. Alena finds her imaginary friend all grown up and she feels something she can’t explain for him. They end up trying to find out what bonds them together. Alena might find a way to free herself from the curse but is it too good to be true? Will Alena find what she is looking for or will she be left in the dark?

Born to Fight (Can’t Resist You Book 1) by Brittany Anne – Review by Dahnielle Hibbert

Born to Fight (Can't Resist You, #1)Born to Fight by Brittany Anne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hunter is a man and exactly as his name implies a hunter. Well a solider to be more exact. He was raised to be a warrior for the resistance. From what I could gather it’s against the UNR after the fall of Western Civilization. Although we never really find out why they are resisting and why the fall occurs.
Rain has escaped and finds Hunter at deaths doorstep. She saves him and lies to him. She doesn’t want to be sent back, but her lies could cause trouble for Hunter. This just seems like a really contrived character flaw and I really feel it could have been a written a little more eloquently.
There are some extremely erotic scenes and some extremely aggressive scenes. It makes the book in part confusing yet steamy and part emotional yet grating. In the end I was very confused about how I felt about this book. I think I will give it a second chance though and re read it, because the premise of the story itself is really interesting.

Wrong for Him is the third book in the Love Lottery series by Christi Barth. This series was about 4 friends winning the lottery and their prize was an Inn in Chesterfield. Each book follows a different couple as they find their Love Lottery.

Amelia and Teagan were the perfect friends to lovers/best friend’s sibling romance I have read in a while. I enjoyed their story and was completely intrigued by these characters.

I did feel like I was missing something while reading, only because I haven’t read the first two books (I will be fixing this). But overall this fun sweet romance won’t have you disappointed that you start reading Wrong for Him.

Stand Your GroundStand Your Ground by A.J. Ullman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Stand Your Ground is a fantastic thriller by A J Ullman. This was the first time I had read any of this author’s work and if this book is any example of their work then I’ll definitely be reading more.
As someone from the UK, I’m not very clued up on US gun laws, so this book was a major eye opener for me. To be honest, I can’t get my head around citizens being able to legally carry a gun. My home city of Glasgow is violent enough and the thought of adding guns to that mix really fills me with fear.
I was hooked to this book from the very beginning and just did not want to put it down. Why does real life have to get in the way of valuable reading time.
There book is not particularly fast paced. There is a lot of added detail that gives you a much more in depth look into Cady’s earlier life.
The writer really does take you on a fascinating journey and there are many times that it takes you in a totally different direction from where you thought you were going.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.
