Vague Directions: Into the Woods by Debra Parmley is a little different from the other books of hers that I have read. This takes paranormal romance and twists it up a bit- making for an original read. Heather’s adventure begins when she sets off for a medieval reenactment festival – getting a bit lost along the way. With a gallant knight, some shifty characters, mystery, intrigue, danger, and dramatic developments- this paranormal romance definitely wasn’t what I was expecting, but in a fun way. Happy Reading…

I grew up in Madison, Indiana, a small town on the Ohio River, with lots of history and settings around here that influence my books. Now I live in New Albany with my fantastic wife. This was definitely an entertaining read. Each short story is a different phobia that provides the theme for the story. Some of these phobias I didn’t know existed. The author weaves the phobia with the plot line extremely well. I couldn’t put the novel down! This is a must read horror collection.

I found this book to be a quick read that kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. The characters were well developed and the author wrote this story is such a way that you really feel for the characters, especially the victims. Get ready to go on an emotional ride. Fiction or possible future, to a degree at least. I love C.A. King’s worlds she creates they are always so different than anything else and no two books of hers are the same. Other than their ability to fully submerge you in their world. Told from several perspectives including Rod and Ned. Treacle is the epitome of small fishing communities. To live there is to answer the call of the sea. But times have changed in just five years, the seas are lifeless. No fish, no plants, no birds. Life tied to the water is gone. The need for food is worse now than ever before and all because people’s race to clean up the planet made them blind to the life that inhabits it. Until it was too late. Rod gets lucky, or maybe it’s unluckier when he renovates Old Bessy, his fishing boat. He finds a fissure at the bottom of the ocean. The secrets are hidden in caves, unknown fish and eggs fill it. Ned dreams of a better life for him and his daughter and all caution go to the wind. One decision changed everything. What do they really find in those caves? Can they stop it before it’s too late? Most of this talented authors books I can see myself living in them but honestly this one is just terrifying in all the best ways the suspense the story the growth it will truly pull you under from start to finish. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I’ve read by this author, so it was a no-brainer to pick this book up. They create absolutely marvelous stories within the paranormal genre which this definitely falls under. I was surprised that this was a little over 200 pages because I breezed through it effortlessly. The flow of the story is naturally smooth while being one-of-a-kind as well. There are quite a few twists and turns throughout that I didn’t see coming! I liked the characters well enough but would love more depth to add a bit more oomph to the story. Even with that tiny note, I completely loved this book. If you enjoy sci-fi, horror, dystopian, and/or paranormal books, this should be your next read!
We have all, at one time or another, reached our hands out to “boop” the nose of an animal! This book is all about animals from A-Z! I even learned about a couple of animals that I have never heard of prior to reading this book.
Of course, safety must be first in all things and this book will mention this. We can’t just go “booping” any snoot we want or we might find ourselves in trouble.
There is a picture of each animal’s nose with a “who is this?” feature. Turn the page and learn all about that particular animal. Each one contains interesting facts.
The pictures are pretty cool in this book too!

Gavin is an identical twin and is victim of his brother. Gavins whole family is dysfunction and chaos. Being witnessed to all of his immediate family violent deaths. First seeing his mom fly down the stairs after his father pushed her. Second seeing his father shot. Third finding his identical twin who hung himself. I was lost in this twisted dramatic book. I highly recommend it.

“Dinopotamus Goes to School” by Lois Wickstrom is a delightful and imaginative children’s book that combines the excitement of learning with the magic of dinosaurs. Wickstrom crafts a story that is both educational and entertaining, making it a hit among young readers.
Wickstrom does an excellent job of weaving educational themes into the narrative, such as friendship, sharing, and curiosity, without making it feel didactic. This book stimulates the imagination and encourages empathy and social skills amongst its young readers, as they can easily relate to the characters and their experiences.
Overall, “Dinopotamus Goes to School” is a heartwarming tale perfect for reading aloud in a classroom or cozy bedtime storytelling. I am sincerely impressed with this novel. The author did some serious research and/or has experience with PTSD and how it affects different people. I also love that the author knows about one of the fight or flight responses that many do not know about: fawn. If you are looking for a novel that intertwines knowledge of PTSD, this book is for you. I highly recommend as someone who helps those with PTSD every day and studied it.
The only reason for four stars instead of five is because the repetition became tedious. While I am reading, I do not need to be reminded of what I have already read. Otherwise, the characters and plot were well thought out and I cannot wait to dive into the next one!

Just Ducky is Book One in the Weird Shifters Series. It is a YA paranormal romance with action, adventure, danger, mystery, suspense, intrigue, shifters, and magic. This is the first book in The Oath Series. This is the first book I have read by this author but I am definitely going to be reading more. This is was such a beautiful moving romance. The author deals with topics such as grief and how that can affect someone’s life in a variety of ways creating a huge impact that some people struggle to work through. Both of our main characters have suffered losses but together they help each other work through it and find love that they didn’t even know they wanted or needed.
Hailey Prescott has made her life her business. As the owner of a B&B she loves the fact that people come into her life and leave without any fuss or heartache. She has never thought of finding Love or a family as the business is her life. And then Loch Mackenzie comes into her life. Hailey can see and feel the sadness that Loch carries with him and plans to help him work through his pain the way she has done in the past.
Loch Mackenzie is a superstar but after the death of his sister he is struggling to move forward as the grief is all consuming. His agent books him into Hailey’s B&B to rest and recover. He can’t explain it but there is something about Hailey that makes him feel alive again. Neither of them was expecting to find love but sometimes things happen for a reason. I loved this! It’s set in the future where all the big corporations’ have taken over the sea so there’s no fish for the little guy to catch and the seas are sparse with fish anyway. People are starving and struggling to make money; Ned & Rod are out fishing one day and they find a ‘new’ species of fish which could save them and the people in their town. It reproduces instantly using salt and can immediately grow bigger ready to reproduce; Too good to be true right? Well it was! Follow them as their lives are turned upside down. Discover what this ‘new’ species of fish really is and how they have to work to overcome this threat to humanity. I couldn’t put it down! It started great, gripped me from the first page. It’s got lots of twists and turns to it. I thought the story was going one way then it turned in a different direction then again later it did it again! Brilliant! My favorite character was Ned; he’s funny and tetchy and bossy. Loved him. I will definitely be reading the following book.
This is not the first book by this author I have picked up, and it definitely will not be the last. This is, however, the first book in the Weird Shifters series, so thankfully there will be more! For anyone who appreciates paranormal stories, there is a little bit of everything all rolled up in one story. Ducky is a character I found myself rooting for from the beginning. The story is interesting and well-written. This is also the first book I have read that involves shifters, so I was intrigued from the get-go. If you are looking for a cozy, fun, escape-from-reality kind of book, then I highly suggest picking up this book and getting lost in the world of Ducky.

My god. What Lies Buried, by Leslie Kain. Where do I start? If I thought I connected to the first one, this one absolutely took the cake. Walking beside Gavin for the duration of his journey, was akin to my own. His struggle with complex PTSD, the lasting effects of mental abuse, and how his partner was affected by it had me sobbing practically the whole book. While this could most likely be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading Secrets of The Mirror first, because it’ll really help you understand Gavin and why he reacts how he does. Kain is phenomenal, and really does a powerful job of portraying mental illness without prejudice or a purposely negative light, and really does her research on each one. The plot line itself is beautifully crafted, and I refused to put this down for hours on end. Never skip over a Leslie Kain book, I know I won’t.

Secrets In The Mirror by Leslie Kain was such a suspenseful read. This book really hit in a raw place for me, as I could personally connect to the struggle of mental illnesses, and the challenges of dealing with a multigenerational, heavily dysfunctional family. Following Gavin and Devon’s journey from childhood to adulthood really gives you a clear understanding of the spiral of addiction, and how it affects your loved ones around you, and the drain caused by codependency. Kain did an amazing job helping these characters practically leap off the page, they were so refreshingly raw and engaging. This is the first book I’ve ever read involving twins, let alone mirror twins, and I think I’ve developed a new obsession! I wholeheartedly recommend this book, and this author! This book really hit in a raw place for me, as I could personally connect to the struggle of mental illnesses, and the challenges of dealing with a multigenerational, heavily dysfunctional family. Following Gavin and Devon’s journey from childhood to adulthood really gives you a clear understanding of the spiral of addiction, and how it affects your loved ones around you, and the drain caused by codependency. Kain did an amazing job helping these characters practically leap off the page, they were so refreshingly raw and engaging. This is the first book I’ve ever read involving twins, let alone mirror twins, and I think I’ve developed a new obsession! I wholeheartedly recommend this book, and this author! Beautiful work!

Evil Sushi is the first book in the extraordinarily unique Evil Sushi series, by C. A. King. A truly original concept, filled with a little bit of everything, perfectly blended into one. I adored the fact that King wasn’t afraid to use the effects of climate change, and write a phenomenal supernatural thriller to call attention to it and give you one of those “what if’s” you’ll be thinking about for years. This book will definitely make you stop for a second and think, before immediately diving right back in, only to repeat the process. As someone who adores sea food itself, I assure you it’s gonna take me a while to be able to eat it again after reading this! Definitely recommend and waiting for book 2!

I enjoyed reading this historical story. This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed how she was able to pull me into the character’s world from the start. I also enjoyed their attention to details that made the story realistic. This is a well written story about Lily and her determination to overthrow a British captain. Lily is a character that has overcome a lot during this time. She was held captive, joins a spy ring, all to help those that are struggling just to survive. I enjoyed Lily and what she brought to the story. She is a strong, determined character that brings inspiration to women of the story. I enjoyed watching the growth of this story which made it easy to read. It is a fast paced story that is hard to put down and entertaining to read. I enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.

Vivian Vo is a paediatric dentist who has a dark past, she loves her job, as well as the community work she does for those who don’t have insurance, however, she has a lot on her mind as well, she is looking for something, or someone to help her with the ties to her past which have encroached on her present.
Arrow and Vivian know each other through their friendship groups and ever since he laid eyes on her for the first time, he knew that she was the one for him, however, whenever he asks her on a date she always declines, but he is not put off that easily, meanwhile, Vivian knows that she is attracted to him, however, she doesn’t have the time or energy for a romance with everything on her mind, that is until one day he asks for a duel and she reluctantly accepts. This leads to them discovering each others scars and deepest emotions, as well as the hidden aspects of their lives, so while they discover each other, they realise that their stories are intertwined in a way neither of them expected when the Triad raises its ugly head and creates problems nobody could forsee, but will their romance continue to burn brightly, or will their pasts extinguish what could be perfection? This is a dark romance with danger around every turn and a mystery which readers will have to unravel as light is brought into the darkness surrounding the characters throughout this enthralling story.

Summer of Mud was a great read. The author pulls you in from the very beginning to the end! The world building and characters was well thought of. This was a fast paced read for me. The story had a lot of emotions in it. I would say the book is for 10-12 year olds.
