Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series Books 1-3 by R.L. Dunn – Review by Michelle Austin

Secure Boxed Set (Chase Security #1-3)Secure Boxed Set by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Secure Boxed Set (Chase Security #1-3) by R.L. Dunn was a great 5 star read.

Secure Desire – Book 1
All I can say is wow, I was pulled in right from the beginning.

Cassie is an FBI agent who has had a couple of huge tragedies in her life. She has closed herself off from any type of relationship, she’s damaged.
Ian Chase met Cassie six years prior and was smitten with her, seeing her again now has brought the feelings back and he starts to pursue her. Ian is an ex-Navy Seal who owns his own successful private security team and I might add is extremely hot.

Cassie remembers meeting Ian but had suffered a traumatic event that has caused her to shut down and have panic attacks. She’s afraid to get close to anyone for fear of rejection.

You won’t like me once you know what I am – Cassie

There is a huge twist at a charity event that had my emotions all over the place. I will warn it does get graphic and had me cringing at times. My heart went out to Cassie and everything that she went through. I was on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time waiting to see what was coming next. Can Ian and his team keep Cassie safe? Will Cassie finally let Ian into her heart?

There is so much more to this read. I loved all of the characters, they all added great elements to the story. Some I didn’t care for, some I loved. I can’t wait to see more from several of them.

Secure Again: Book 2
Once I started I couldn’t put it down. There is so much going on with all the characters.
Elizabeth is a surgeon and Martin is the CEO of Chase Security.

Elizabeth is a very caring person and becomes concerned when she starts seeing patients from the local jail coming in with injuries. When Martin gets called home after his brother has been shot, he finds out that Elizabeth is the one keeping his brother alive. These two have a history that didn’t end well for them.

As the investigation continues on both the shooting and the jail injuries things intensify. Can Chase Security get the answers and solve the mystery? Will Elizabeth and Martin reconnect and have a second chance at a HEA?

Overall I loved this book, I was pulled right in and couldn’t wait to see what was coming next. You get suspense, mystery, romance and so much more. I am really enjoying this series. All of the secondary characters are great.

Secure Heart: Book 3
Once I started I didn’t want to put it down. I was excited to read Julian’s story.

Holly is a singer and songwriter trying to make ends meet for her and her son. When something scary happens to her she decides to hire Chase Security which is where she meets Julian. The more time they spend together feelings start to develop.

Julian has started with Chase Security and is trying to move forward from his past. He gets a job watching over a single mom and her daughter. He’s also working on a serial killer case. Will he be able to help them and find the serial killer?

Overall this was a great read. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what was coming next. We get action, love, suspense and so much more. All of the characters added a great element to the story. The author does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. I look forward to reading more from this series and the author. 1-click and get started today on this great set.

Yule Lads Legend: Iceland’s Jólasveinar by Heidi Herman – Review by Anantha Rusum

Yule Lads Legend: Iceland's JólasveinarYule Lads Legend: Iceland’s Jólasveinar by Heidi Herman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Such a cute story. I am planning to read it to my children and also ask the kiddos in my book club to read it. It is a folklore based out of Iceland where 13 Yule lad kids always go to a village to kidnap naughty children. They take back the children to their mother who is a troll to make a stew.
This year, they decide to leave little gifts and presents to children instead of capturing the children. They understand the joy of giving and realize the euphoria when you see someone happy with your actions.
A fun and enjoyable read, I don’t mind giving it to my boys!!!

Fake Fiancé: A Second Chance Office RomanceFake Fiancé: A Second Chance Office Romance by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fake Fiancé by Amy McKinleys is my first book by this author and if her other books are anything like this one, I need to read more. This short office romance novella read like a full novel. I couldn’t believe that Amy gives you everything in such a small amount of pages. Adeline and Stone were great characters that I want more from them. Their chemistry was there from the beginning and I was intrigued to see that it took them that long to come together.

Gianluca (Marini Family Romance Book 1) by Isabella Cassazza – Review by Rosanna Ingram

Gianluca (Marini Family #1)Gianluca by Isabella Cassazza
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gianluca is enjoying his successful career in the fashion industry. When his new intern is an American, there is an instant hate relationship that is born. However, the chemistry between Callie and Gianluca quickly turns their relationship into a love/hate one. The back and forth between these characters kept me turning the pages long after I should have been in bed. Like any good romance, things are not easy for the two and when Callie flees back to the United States, will Gianluca fight for her or is the American more trouble than she is worth? (You will have to read to find out)

I have read books from this author in the past, and this new series is definitely one I will be keeping up with. I really liked the relationship between Callie and Gianluca…and some of the characters in the book were great, too. A good enemies-to-lovers book that I would recommend to other readers.

CLAIM ME NOW (Heron Harbor Book 2)
By Lea Nolan
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book CLAIM ME NOW (Heron Harbor Book 2) by Lea Nolan. It is a wonderful romance story that pulled me in from the very beginning and I was hooked. I loved the characters of Raven Donovan and Jack Baines. Raven is a woman who is looking to forget her sorrows at the home that belongs to her and her sisters. She is not looking for a relationship. Then she meets Jack. Jack is a man who doesn’t want a new relationship. He has rented the house where Raven has taken refuge. What does the future hold for Raven and Jack? Read this book to find out. This story had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. It is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with the characters. I grew to care about what happens to Jack and Raven with each chapter that I read. I also enjoyed reading about the additional characters that are introduced in the book. That author does an amazing job in making the storyline and the characters come alive. Don’t miss out on an entertaining and romantic story. I highly recommend reading it.

I loved reading the book Cemetery Tour: A Walk Through the Old Yard by Stuart Ledwith. It is a collection of stories that are told by those in a cemetery. The book has heartwarming and heartbreaking moments. There are emotional moments, and I found my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. I couldn’t help but grow to care about those whose stories are being told. The author does a wonderful job of making both the characters and their stories come to life. The book is written with enough detail that I felt like I was right there with the characters. Don’t miss out on an emotional journey that you won’t be able to put down until the final page. I highly recommend reading it.

The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink – Review by Jennifer Wolbeck

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I lost sleep reading The Sound of Silence. It is an absolute home run of a novel. I deeply respect Dakota Willink’s respectful dedication to revealing the realities of domestic abuse and allowing the countless victimized women to speak their truth through her story. Willink doesn’t use abuse as a literary gimmick, but has a clear and powerful message; Anyone can become a victim, but there is also a chance for a life of security and happiness past the trauma. This is such a delicate subject, and I feel so much more informed after reading this book. I used to wonder things like, “Why would any woman allow herself to be hurt?” or “Why would a woman stay with an abuser?” There is no clear cut answer for every case, but reading this story impresses the subtleties and complexities of these kinds of relationships.

There is a trigger warning for readers in the beginning, but I want to second that warning with another. Some parts of this novel are incredibly difficult to read. Tread with caution. Also, don’t start the book before going to bed because you won’t be going to bed. The Sound of Silence is a must read for anyone who wants to take a step out of their comfort zone and into the shoes of a woman who’s torn apart by the anguish of trauma and is renewed by self-empowerment and love.

I really felt Jane’s character as she comes to terms with the fact she hit Santa. I just love the fact
that she then becomes his savior. I really enjoy this series and cannot wait for more. I have to admit that this author is definitely in my top ten! I will be reading more from this author.

Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire (New Orleans Nocturnes, #3.5)Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Santa got run over by a vampire is the 4th book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. This is a fantastic short, funny and original book. It revisits the characters from the first book in the series, newly turned vampire Jane and her husband Ethan. It’s Christmas time in New Orleans and Jane has an unfortunate run in with Santa when driving her friend Gaston’s car. She must make the decision on to let Santa die or turn him and try and save Christmas but risk starting a war with the fae in the process. On top of that she must deal with her dad coming to town and trying to explain that she is a vampire! This is a really enjoyable book; it is perfect for reading on a cosy winter night and I really liked it. I have read all the books in this series and I liked going back and finding out more about what Jane had been up too.

Yule Lads Legend by Heidi Herman was a cute little Christmas story! It was a quick read, and a very descriptive tale at that. It was interesting to read another cultures Christmas fable/legend/tale, and to me it was reminiscent of the Twelve Days if Christmas song, but in book form. This story was a retelling, and I will assume it did its job very well, since I haven’t read the original tale before. This was a great Christmas story that I would recommend for kids of all ages during the holiday season.

It’s a novella and is a jam packed short read, perfect for this time of year.
I loved catching up with some familiar faces, especially for some Christmas fun. I’m already a fan of this series and particularly enjoy the humour that runs through all of the books, this story in particular is full of funny moments that will have you laughing out loud.
This was just the pick-me-up I needed at the minute, and the Christmas theme just made it even better!

Love Heels is the third book in the PJ Santini series by Lynne Russell. Unfortunately I haven’t read the other books in the series yet and I definitely think I would have enjoyed it more if I had, it took me a little while to get into the story.

PJ Santini is both a news reporter on TV and a private investigator, and this series follows her as she searches for the truth and reports it. The author manages to make the story serious and funny, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next.
I really loved the characters, the main character is fab, but her friends and family really make the story come to life. I just need to go back and read the rest now!

This is the second book I’ve read by Amy McKinley. I love her ability to create a story and characters instantly. This was a very small book, but still packed the emotion I’ve come to recognize from Amy. Our main female character is Nadia. She’s complicated and I don’t want to give too much away. Our main male character is Cade. He’s a sweet man who loves with his whole heart and you can’t help but adore. I do wish this was a bit of a longer story, but I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie: A Gripping Thriller (Jake Wolfe Book 1) by Mark Nolan
4 out of 5 Stars
This book is the first in the Jake Wolfe series and let me tell you that it is very fast-paced. I love crime, drama, mystery, and murder genres. But the book had my head reeling. This wasn’t at all bad at times. I loved the fast action most of the time. Similar to when you are watching a good movie and the fight scene is just THAT good. But I did find myself having to go back and reread a few portions to figure out something because there was much to the plot that I could not remember it all. However, having said all that, If I was ever in trouble, I would want Jake Wolfe to come to bail me out, because, dang. That man can really help a girl out. Jake is a war vet who is determined to protect those around him from the trouble that seems to find him.
This is a good book for lovers of mysteries, suspense, action, and adventure. The character dialogue is hilarious and the action is fast.

This is a shorter story that is full of the Christmas spirit and second chances. I loved the characters and how they brought the story to life. This is Archer and Ally’s story. They have a past together. They had it all until he left and never looked back. Now that he is back in town, will he realize his one mistake? Ally’s world is about to be turned upside down. What will fate have in store for these two? Is there forgiveness and second chances in their future? I loved this story and the warm fuzzies you get from reading it. This is a great holiday story that I highly recommend. You don’t want to miss this one!

This is a paranormal story that is fast paced and engaging. It has a little bit of everything in it from romance to mystery. The characters pulled me into the story and kept me turning pages. I had no problem connecting to them as they brought the story to life. This is a story about Revel who is part of a pack where she is controlled and lives in the one place she feels free, the forest. What will happen when hikers turn up missing in her forest? There are rumors that there are wolves in the area, is Revel and her pack in danger? On top of that, she is starting to fall for a human which is forbidden. She has so many secrets. What will happen if these secrets are found out? I enjoyed this book. This is a science fiction story that is entertaining and the characters keep things engaging. This is a well developed story that is fast paced and kept me turning pages to the end. I enjoyed being pulled into the story from the first chapter. The characters are connectable and some are full of magic. This is a story about three teenagers that need to accept each other no matter the differences and they all have one goal. There is a boy who doesn’t believe in aliens, then you have an alien that only thinks about Earth and there is a girl who is a robot. Together they learn to fight differences and learn respect for all things. This is a really great story to teach that everyone is different in their own way and that differences are good. The characters made the story fun to read and I highly recommend it to all.
