Lucky at Love (Some guys just never give up) by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Liz Vrchota

Lucky at Love: Some Guys Just Never Give Up...Lucky at Love: Some Guys Just Never Give Up… by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really have enjoyed Cynthia Hamilton’s novels in the past so when I saw Lucky at Love: Some Guys Just Never Give Up.., it was a no brainer to one-click and read this one. I really enjoyed the chic lit banter that made this novel one that was very hard to put down. I really wanted a bit of an escape when I picked this novel up and it did a wonderful job of that, and making me feel like I was on an adventure with these two main characters. Jake is a conundrum to Allison. When they meet and she finds out he has been married and divorced seven times already, but still considers himself lucky in love, she is set to figure out what he means by that. These two play off each other very well and I found myself giggling and engrossed until the very end. I can’t wait to see what we will get next from Hamilton!

Solstice Shadows: A VanOps Thriller by Avanti Centrae – Review by Kerry Baker

Solstice Shadows (VanOps, #2)Solstice Shadows by Avanti Centrae
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Solstice Shadows: A VanOps Thriller by Avanti Centrae is a fast paced book that will keep you turning the pages. This book is the second book of the series however it can be read as a standalone. Personally I would advise readying them in order just so you get that background and build up before this story, although it is not a requirement.
I thought the book was quite fast paced and exciting. I expected it to be a little dense and confusing given the high-tech theme but it was a pleasant surprise to find that it wasn’t like that at all. I found it to be very easy to understand and a good book to get into.
The characters were interesting and I found myself rooting for them throughout the story. IT was well paced and the author did a great job of layering the story so it built up gradually and kept you interested. This was a great book and one I would certainly recommend.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Composed (An Ash Park Novel Book 8) by Meghan O’Flynn. This is one of my very favorite series and I love Meghan O’Flynn. I would suggest you read the books in order to be able to better understand the series. These books have caused me more than one nights sleep because once you begin them you don’t want to put them down. Its the continuing story of Edward Petrosky who is a Detective that is just coming back from leave for a justified shooting. He has several demons he is continually fighting and staying sober is the most prominent one right now. Edward has pushed every person in his life away dealing with things on his own but when the only person he really cares about it put in a life or death situation he will do what it takes to save her. Secure Desire (Chase Security Series Book 1) by R.L. Dunn – Review by Karyn Taylor

Secure Desire (Chase Security Series Book 1)Secure Desire by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Secure Desire is the first book in the Chase Security Series by R.L. Dunn. It’s the first time that I have read any of this author’s work but it certainly will not be the last. I was enticed by the blurb on this book and thought it would be the kind of book that I’d enjoy, so decided to give it a try. I’m so glad that I took a chance on this book as I absolutely loved it.
This book is filled with drama, mystery, murder and intrigue and had me hooked from the very beginning and did not let me go. The author takes you on a fantastic journey and you just don’t know where to story is going to go next. It’s a very well written and obviously well thought out storyline which flows very well and keeps the reader fully engaged.
There is quite a large amount of characters in addition to Ian and Cassie, the 2 main characters but all have an important part to play and I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of some of them in the future books in the series. I adored both of the main characters Ian and Cassie. Cassie is so broken and Ian is just the perfect guy to put her back together again. Can I also add that the sexy times between them are smoking HOT!
I really can’t wait to read more of this series as Secure Desire really had me hooked and I loved every minute of it.

Alligators in the Trees by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Tausha Treadway

Alligators in the treesAlligators in the trees by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Alligators in the Trees by Cynthia Hamilton. I LOVED this book! Its the best story about fate and how things are meant to be happen. Its the story of Priscilla Vanderpool who works at a Frank’s Coffee Shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Priscilla loves her job but her heart and soul is in music & song writing. She has written several songs but no one has ever heard them. Tobias Jordan is a 90’s rock star who is middle aged and trying to rebuild his career. Phillip Glessner is a down and out architect who found Frank one day trying to avoid reporters so they end up in Frank’s Coffee Shop and meet Priscilla. Phillip is very attracted to Priscilla and since his wife is divorcing him he feels like she may be just what he needs. As they continue to learn about each other they have connections that could only be fate. Each character has flaws and yet they tend to bring out the best in one another. This is such a fun, sweet book about chance meetings and how life just works out sometimes.

5/5 Stars

Secure Desire (Chase Security Series #1) by R.L. Dunn

Dunn has a way with bringing characters to life. This was a fantastic read and can’t wait for book 2. This is the first book in the Chase Security Series and my first read by the author.

Cassiopeia Ellis, Cassie, has lost her entire family and now people are coming after her. Something happened to her six years ago and she remembers bits and pieces. The quote I choose for Cassie is: “I promise you’re not. Life is too short, and there are tons of things to be afraid of. One thing I am very sure about is I’m not afraid of you.”

Ian Chase runs a high-end business. He met Cassie six years ago, but when he runs into her again he knows he has to have her. He wants to know everything about her, but things are tough in the beginning. The quote I choose for Ian is: “Some other tidbits? I know you prefer tea over coffee. Your favorite snack is gelato. I know you have a passion for high heels. Your favorite scent is honeysuckle. I know you love art—even pig art. You crinkle your nose when you’re thinking. Christian calls you ‘bunny’ because you used to have big ponytails that looked like bunny ears. You are a capable, brave woman, the strongest woman I ever met. I know I want to spend my life getting to learn everything about you and making you happy. When you are well enough, I want to take you to my bed and love you like you deserve to be loved.”

Highly recommended for Crime Romance lovers.

The Autumn Leaf
By Brittany Tarkington
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book The Autumn Leaf by Brittany Tarkington. It is a New/Adult/College Romance story that is amazing. The story had my emotions going up and down the entire time. The author does an amazing job of making both the storyline and the characters come alive on the pages. I loved reading about Autumn Miller and Liam Shafer. Autumn is a young woman who is intelligent, strong, and independent. There are secrets that she keeps hidden. Her goal is to finish college. Liam is a young man who is attracted to Autumn from the first time that he sees her. Autumn and Liam are characters that I grew to care about with each chapter that I read. I wanted them to find happiness. This book has moments that touched my heart. I loved the bantering back and forth between Autumn and Liam. Other characters have their part to play in the story. Some characters are friends and others are not. The author does an amazing job of creating a story that I couldn’t stop thinking about even after I had read the final page. I highly recommend reading it.

The Autumn LeafThe Autumn Leaf by Brittany Tarkington
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book. It is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her. This is a young adult story that is engaging and kept me turning pages. It also has a romance side to it that was great as well. The characters are well developed and I enjoyed watching them grow throughout the story. I had no problem imagining being with them. They made the story easy to read. This story is about Autumn. Autumn is a young adult that seems to find running away from her problems easier than facing them. She meets Liam on university campus and soon realizes they have a lot in common along with great chemistry. What will happen when her past comes to her present? Will she find that running away isn’t so easy this time? I enjoyed the characters in this story. They brought the story to life for me. They were supportive of each other and made the story enjoyable. I highly recommend this book.

Deception by Victoria Saccenti – Review by Kari Williams

DeceptionDeception by Victoria Saccenti
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Deception is my first novel by Victoria Saccenti and I truly felt like it was a surprise. But not in a bad way. The story follows Joe on his surprise path for revenge and Hunter on her journey to finding herself.

I wasn’t sure whether the intention was to find Hunter a bit hard to like at first, but if it was the writing did just that! I began to like her more though as I got further into the story and we got to know her a little more.

Joe was a wild card though. Ex-marine, adjusting back to civilian life, he is a unique guy. When he sets his sights on Hunter who knows what will happen!

Can Hunter and Joe be truthful to themselves or is there just too much below the surface? Too much to get passed? You’ll have to read Deception to find out!

Autumn Miller drifted coolly into Washington state with a fat stack of cash and only the clothes on her back. Graduate and blend in; those were her only goals.

Autumn didn’t take into consideration everyone around her would be so friendly. Especially Liam Shafer, the gray-eyed boy following her around campus. The closer she gets to Liam, she realizes they have a lot in common. He may keep her secrets safe, but she can’t keep everyone out. When a missing person’s poster is found, she’s confronted with everything she left behind.

For Autumn, picking up and running away is always the answer. Only this time, she may have something worth staying and fighting for.

Hi! I’m Brittany! I’m from East Texas where I live with my husband, son, and two dogs. I have a degree in Criminal Justice, and I used to work as a legal assistant for a criminal defense firm. These days I’m a writer and co-owner of Magnolia and Pine. I have a love-hate relationship with both CrossFit and wine. I have my days and nights mixed up, and I spend most of my time doing everything I can to avoid being productive.

I’ve always had a crazy imagination and I love writing. So, I started writing Forever Careless at the age of 21 to see if I had it in me. It was too much fluff for me, however my friends loved it. So, I wrote another; this time I pushed to boundaries of fluff.

One day, while in a very bad mood, I thought of a story without a happy ending. One with real problems and real people. A story that was very close to my heart. It nagged me constantly. Months later, I sat down and started Hazed. At first, he was going to be apart of the Forever Series. Just come in and wreck their lives. Instead, I went another route. Only weeks later, Hazed was finished. I was obsessed with it.

It took me over a year to finish my first novel and weeks to finish this one. I knew what that meant. I liked to write about bad people who do bad things. I like to get inside their minds and feel their crazy. So, if you’re looking for hearts and flowers, you won’t find them here. My stories are real and they aren’t pretty.

AlamirAlamir by Nesa Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was great! It is my first book by this Author and also my first book by this Narrator. I thought this book was attention grabbing and I was excited to see where the story would go. Etain is our main charcter and she is an interesting one. She is strong and determined and you can’t help but like her. The author did an awesome job at keeping the story going and I enjoyed that this had some originality to it because I’ve never listened to anything like it. I will say it took a while for me to get use too the narrator. She had a very high voice at times and it threw me off a bit but it didn’t take away from the story and I still liked it a lot. I am looking forward to listing to more of this authors stories and I would recommend this to a friend!
Happy Listening!

A Duke Never Forgets (The Duke Hunters Club Book 3) by Bianca Blythe was a funny romantic read. I enjoyed the banter between the family. The historical aspect added to the story and was a great addition. I loved Genevieve, such a strong and dutiful character. She works hard to see the positive of her situation. I loved all the details and character development. The plot kind of reminded me of While You Were Sleeping, I really enjoyed the story.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If a small town, opposites-attract rock star romances are your thing then I’ll See You Again by K.G. Fletcher, is your next read. This is the fourth book in the Reigning Hearts series that is full of HEAs that will touch your heart.

Nicky Sinclair and Reid Macpherson were sweet, sexy, and everything that true love is about. But like all good love stories, some parts will have you grabbing tissues and crying along with the characters.

K.G. Fletcher’s writing always seems to put my heart on an emotional rollercoaster and loving every character she writes. I highly recommend reading any of her books and not falling in love.

Lucky at Love (Some guys just never give up) by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Lucky at Love: Some Guys Just Never Give Up...Lucky at Love: Some Guys Just Never Give Up… by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a wonderfully written novel with great main characters in the form of mule breeder Jake Sorenson and journalist Allison Tyler-Wilcox. Allison and Jake first meet at Jake’s sisters wedding and when Allison learns that he has been married and divorced seven times she can not believe it when he says that he considers himself to be ‘lucky at love’. Allison can not understand Jake’s attitude, that although he has been divorced many times his marriages were not failures. Trying to understand Jake and his views better Allison convinces her editor into letting her visit Jake at his ranch to do an article on, “the compulsion some people have when it comes to saying “I do””. Whilst spending time with Jake she realises she has misjudged him, and due to sharing mule rides and impromptu tango dances Allison realises that Jake’s unique philosophy on life and love might actually be worth listening to. The trip leaves Allison feeling confused about her own marriage and her own ideals, let alone confused about her feelings for Jake.
I found myself fully immersed in this book due to the likeable and realistic characters, I enjoyed discovering how Allison and Jakes relationship changed and developed throughout the story. The storyline flowed along nicely and the narrative kept me happily turning the pages. Thanks to the wonderful descriptions by the author of both person and place I felt as though I was there with Jake and Allison. This novel is very character driven and Hamilton really made me care for the main characters and therefore I felt invested in the conclusion of both their story and the novel.

A Duke Never Forgets (The Duke Hunters Club, #3)A Duke Never Forgets by Bianca Blythe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Duke Never Forgets by Bianca Blythe is the third book in The Duke Hunters Club. Luckily this can be read as a standalone because I haven’t read the other books in the series. What happens when Duke of Sandridge has a swimming accident? Lots, and I’m not going to give it away. This story follows what happens to the Duke and Genevieve. There is lots of mistaken identities, lies, double lies, and all for a good reason. Will they get a happily ever after or remain enemies? You will have to read this delightful book to find out. This is a quick read but is full of humor and more. I always have liked historical fiction especially the Regency era and this gave me a quick and fun read. I look forward to reading more from Bianca Blythe in the future.

I'll See You Again (Reigning Hearts, #4)I’ll See You Again by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As a fan of K.G. Fletcher’s books I was looking forward to reading this one and I was not disappointed. I loved this opposites attract romance with a rock star twist. Although part of Fletcher’s ‘Reigning Hearts’ series each book can be read as a standalone story. As usual Fletcher took me on an emotional rollercoaster whilst reading this novel and as usual I was hooked from page one. I found myself fully immersed in Nicky and Reid’s love story and literally could not put the book down. I also found myself still thinking about the characters long after I had finished the book, which is always a sign of a great book to me.
When famous Scottish musician, Reid Macpherson who is on the brink of stardom meets wedding planner Nicky Sinclair in a local bar in a small town their mutual attraction is instant and their chemistry sizzled off the page. However, Nicky does not know who Reid is until he invites her to New York where his first world tour kicks off. Just as the couple are exploring their connection, Nicky receives terrifying news and then finds herself in the headlines. With their romance all over the airwaves, Nicky worries that Mac will return to Scotland and forget her and Mac worries that he will loose his voice if he looses Nicky. No spoilers, as I recommend you read this wonderfully written romance, however I was cheering them on to their happy ever after.

Finders Reapers (New Orleans Nocturnes, #4)Finders Reapers by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoy the books in Carrie Pulkinen’s ‘New Orleans Nocturnes’ series and this latest story which is book four, was just as good as the previous books. They can all be read as standalone stories although some of the characters do crossover. This was a fun paranormal romantic comedy with great characters. It has a very original storyline, in that the grim reaper, who is also called Asher, takes a holiday but whilst he’s away the door to the underworld is unattended and the ghosts start to wonder around New Orleans, in the French Quarter to be exact. Meanwhile necromancer Jasmine Lee suddenly finds herself surrounded by spirits needing help. Asher, once he returns from his holiday, and Jasmine have to work together to ensure all the lost souls return to the underworld. I love the two main characters, Asher and Jasmine and enjoyed the witty banter they shared. The chemistry between them also sizzled off the page and led to some steamy scenes. This was a fairly short story, but action packed and it was an easy going fun read with plenty of laughs and romance.

Deception by Victoria Saccenti – Review by Kerry Baker

DeceptionDeception by Victoria Saccenti
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Deception by Victoria Saccenti is a great enemies to lovers story that will definitely pique your interest. I really enjoyed, right from the start, how you didn’t know much about what was going to happen from the description. It felt like the description was perfect to catch your attention but left the story to speak for itself.
I enjoyed the angle the author took with this story, it made it feel different to others books of this type that I have read. I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t as intriguing as I expected from the blurb however the story was overall very good. I was invested in the characters and couldn’t wait to see how things would turn out.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I think she has a strong writing style. The book was well paced and I enjoyed how the characters were built up. This was a great story to read and I will definitely be interested in more work by this author.

On With the Butter! Spread More Living onto Everyday Life by Heidi Herman – Review by Kerry Baker

On With the Butter! On With the Butter! by Heidi Herman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

On With The Butter by Heidi Herman is a book designed to help you make the most out of life and learn how to adapt your way of thinking. I liked how the author provided helpful suggestions and lists of how to implement what she was talking about.
I’m not normally the type of person who will read a “self-help” book however this book I enjoyed. It didn’t feel like the author was lecturing on how you should do things and more regaling us with her own experiences and provided a basis for how we might learn from them and her. It was an interesting book to read and I found myself much more engrossed in the book than I expected.
The tone of the book for me was also quite light hearted while also having depth which I think helped me enjoy this book more. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone that wants to challenge their way of thinking.

Composed (An Ash Park Novel Book 8) by Meghan O’Flynn – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Composed: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 8)Composed: An Ash Park Novel by Meghan O’Flynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 8 in Meghan O’Flynn’s ‘Ash Park’ series but each book can be read as a standalone story. This is a gritty fast paced crime thriller which had me gripped from page one and which had so many clever twists and turns that it kept me hooked and guessing until the very last page. The main character, Detective Petrosky was a great character with so many layers to him and an intriguing backstory of his own. Composed’s storyline is chilling and dark, and I became fully immersed in the story. The writer has amazingly detailed descriptions, so I felt as though I was there along side Detective Edward Petrosky.
In this novel the Detective is tormented after a justified shooting in his previous case and fresh from leave his next case is a ruthless serial killer. With the citizens of Ash Park at risk Petrosky investigates, however when the Chief of Police and friend of the Detective is abducted the case becomes personal. Detective Petrosky must discover who the murderer is and stop him before his friend becomes his next victim. As described this is definitely a “dark, twisted, thrill ride”, and I could not put it down. I am already excited for the next book in Meghan O’Flynn’s ‘Ash Park’ series.
