The Matchmaker and The Marine: A Second Chance Small-Town Romance by Lucinda Race – Review by Lisa Helmick

The Matchmaker and The MarineThe Matchmaker and The Marine by Lucinda Race
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This isn’t what I expected. It sounds great in the synopsis. It is very wordy and a slow romance. Melinda is a matchmaker. We learn all about her services and her friends. Adam is a former marine. He hires Melinda to find him a match. He goes out on dates then decides he likes Melinda as more than a friend. They become great friends and we get a front row seat to this slow sweet romance.

The story is nice and slow. I just felt it took a long time to get from point A to point B. The characters are finely developed. This just isn’t my cup of tea. A faster pace and less filler would have worked better for me.

Heart of Malice (Alice Worth Book 1) by Lisa Edmonds – Review by Erica Fish

Heart of Malice (Alice Worth, #1)Heart of Malice by Lisa Edmonds
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lisa Edmonds is a new author to me. Her writing style kept me at the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. Her plot line is engaging with every page I wanted more and more. Her characters are complex and complicated. I can imagine the story with her imagery. Alice is the main character. She was a prisoner to a crime syndicate, who escaped through faking her death. Now she is a PI for the supernatural. She has stumbled on a case that will test her abilities. Alice will have to find her client and the object before it is too late. I recommend this story and I can’t wait until the next book.

Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Series Book 1) by Lou Grimes – Review by Netania Lim

Winter's Wolf (The Cursed, #1)Winter’s Wolf by Lou Grimes
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a paranormal fantasy about a teenager called Louvette who keeps moving schools and doesn’t know who her father is until a lawyer executes her grandfather’s will and secrets come out. There’s definitely a bit of every genre in this story, and the plot overall is interesting and suspenseful although it has moments of predictability. The writing itself didn’t exactly pull me in but the characters and their relationships with each other were interesting.

Blind Magic: The Sanctuary Chronicles by India Kells – Review by Netania Lim

Blind Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles #2)Blind Magic by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a paranormal romance, and although I often find this genre lets me down, I’ve read other books by India Kells and this one held up. As the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone, as I did, having not read the first book. This story is about a witch and a werewolf, with magic, time travel, and mythology thrown in as well, which makes it unique. The plot was strong and I loved the character development of Sera as she finds out about her own past as well as questions her own destiny. The wider cast of characters were complex and dynamic too. Also loved the bookworm’s heaven of a library! Great read with plenty of detail and action.

A Book Signing To Die ForA Book Signing To Die For by Judy Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an amazing crime story which I loved. I was totally captivated by it from the start and thought I knew who the murderer was but boy was I wrong. The twists and turns are so good it keeps you guessing.

Beck and her gran run a book shop/cafe. After holding a book signing for a popular author, a lady who attended turns up dead. Was it a robbery or was it just plain murder.

When the police seem like they are on the wrong track Beck decides to take it upon herself to do some search of her own.

What she discovers about the lady who died and her connections keeps the suspect list growing and you never know who it is.

Will the police send the wrong man to jail or will Becks hard detective work solve who the true killer was before they strike again.

The Matchmaker and The Marine: A Second Chance Small-Town Romance by Lucinda Race – Review by Angela Hayes

The Matchmaker and The Marine: A Second Chance Small-Town RomanceThe Matchmaker and The Marine: A Second Chance Small-Town Romance by Lucinda Race
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Matchmaker and the Marine is the first story that I have read by Lucinda Race. This is a contemporary second chance, small-town romance- all about taking a chance on love and finding love unexpectedly.
Melinda Phillips is a very successful matchmaker. She knows what it is like to find a ‘forever love’, and even though her soul mate has passed away, she still wants everyone to experience that kind of true love. Adam Bell retired from the Marines after his last tour left him scarred, both physically and emotionally. His confidence has taken a battering and even though he longs for someone special in his life, he isn’t sure he wants to take the risk of being hurt. But meeting Mel changes things, so he signs up for matchmaking, and they soon form a friendship. Will they both open up and take a chance on love, or will the pain of their pasts deny them the chance of finding happiness? If you love romance, and you want to know how the story ends, you should take a chance on this sweet story and find the answers for yourself.
Sweet, spicy, and emotive!

Thank you, Lucinda Race!

A Book Signing To Die For: Beach Reads by Judy Moore – Review by Betsy Melano

A Book Signing To Die ForA Book Signing To Die For by Judy Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Book Signing To Die For is the first book I have read by author Judy Moore. What a fun setting for a book – Beck O’Rourke and her Grandma Alice co-own Beach Reads bookstore. Wouldn’t that be fun? Grandma Alice is a no nonsense, say it as it is character, Lizzie the younger sister is a lifeguard who wants nothing to do with the bookstore, and Beck is the main character who can be shy but as she gets older she is growing out of her shyness and is finding her true calling.

The story gets your attention from the beginning. The Beach Reads bookstore sounds like a wonderful shop to visit. The premise of this book is that the bookstore has a book signign and a meet & greet with authors from time to time. On this fateful night, one of the book signing attendees is found dead near the shop. The mystery gets Beck to realize her passion of crime solving.

Dares & Dice (Spicetopia #5) by Phoebe Alexander

5-Stars

Dares & Dice (Spicetopia #5) by Phoebe Alexander was steam, romantic, and exciting. I loved Ty and Makenna! It was so much fun watching them get outside of their comfort zone during the scavenger hunt! Both came from different backgrounds and meshed well. I also enjoyed the bit of foreshadowing regarding their love lives. I absolutely loved this book and enjoyed the ending. It can be read as a standalone in this series but readers will love the other books too. This book is my new favorite of this series and I highly recommend it.

Deleted by Ruth Mitchell – Review by Jonell Collins

DeletedDeleted by Ruth Mitchell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to say this was a very scary story. George Orwell type of scary. Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is quite an alarming story because the possibilities are so frightening. If you are as old as I am and you have seen the amazing things that have occurred in the last fifty years….then you will feel just as alarmed as I felt. Ms. Mitchell paints a world where no one is without an eyepiece that is in constant contact with the wearer, much like so many of us are with our cell phones. Much like Siri programs. As we follow Lucy and Marco and the events that unfold in their lives this excellent story gives you much to think about. I heard a slogan years ago…if you can think it, you can do it. Lets hope not.

Summer's Stolen (A Seasons of Magic urban Fantasy Novel)Summer’s Stolen by Sarah Biglow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summer’s Stolen: (An Urban Fantasy Novel) (Seasons of Magic Book 2) by Sarah Biglow is a great fantasy paranormal story that is easy to become part of the story. It will have you on the end of your seat and your heart racing as they once again race against time to find missing children. Make sure you read the first book before you read this one, which is just as good as this one. This story pretty much takes off where the last one left off and where our favourite Detective, the Saviour, is once again caught up good versus evil and magic is everywhere. With magic and mystery what could be better to keep you engaged and turning pages. I very much look forward to the next one.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Book Signing To Die For by Judy Moore is not her normal mystery story it is a fast paced cozy murder mystery. Judy has written the story that throws you of course, just when you think you are getting to the “whodunnit”. There are twists and turns, thrills and spills, danger and lies, and definitely keeps you guessing. The characters are likable and realistic and the world in which Judy paints is so vivid you can clearly see it. I loved Lizzy’s grandma, she is such a hoot, sassy and independent woman who knows her own mind. It is a great read to get lost in and I can’t wait to see what Judy brings us next.

Grace’s Ghosts by Stephenie Wilson Peterson is a fast paced paranormal story for older kids about 10 – 12ish but having said that I enjoyed it. Stephenie has given us an original story where there are magic, ghosts, secrets and curses and a best friend who is a cat. It is fun, witty and spooky and thoroughly enjoyable, as we take a twisty journey along with Grace as she works with her ghostly cohorts to get to the root of the problem in town.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dares & Dice is book 5 in the Spicetopia series by Phoebe Alexander and let me say this might be my favorite. I think I say that about every book in this series. We all think Vegas is the place to have your bachelor/bachelorette party’s at, but if Spicetopia was a real place it would have Vegas beat.

Makenna and Ty had me laughing-out-loud and loving the bantering between them But nothing was better than the naughty scavenger hunt, I mean who wouldn’t want to do that.

If you love a little wild and crazy mixed with some serious sexiness then you need to read this book/series.

Girl Trap (The Madeline Dawkins Series Book 3) by Cynthia Hamilton. Once again this series captured my full attention and I just couldn’t put it down. This author knows how to keep me guessing and on my toes. This one is just as interesting and intriguing as the others. The fast pace had my head busy but it’s not so fast it’s rushed it’s a good fast. The characters are complex and well written, by now I’m feeling a great connection with them. I do recommend reading this series in order and I promise it’ll be a great way to spend some time in book world. Five stars all the way and highly recommended!

This is an amazing debut and it’s definitely gonna have me keeping my eye one more from this author. The characters are complex and relatable, easy to connect with. This storyline had me completely hooked from page one to the very end. I think any person could really enjoy this story. I sometimes feel it’s hard for me to get into a book of this type but I absolutely had no trouble sinking right in. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Dares & Dice (Spicetopia Book 5)Dares & Dice by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dares and Dice by Phoebe Alexander is book five of the Spicetopia Series. This series can be read in any order but let’s be real the whole series is good so you might as well read them in order!

Makenna is out to enjoy her bachelorette party. I mean she took her bridesmaids to the Bahamas after all! If her maid of honor has anything to say about it, they will definitely be enjoying themselves at Spicetopia. What they don’t expect is that a bachelor party will also be happening. Ty is thrilled to be away from his family celebrating his bachelor party with his friends. If he won’t enjoy the wedding or even the marriage, might as well enjoy the party. Neither Ty nor Makenna expected the best man and maid of honor to conspire but they have and they are daring Ty and Makenna – all bets are off! Who knows maybe this party is just what they need!

This was such a fun book to read as are many of the other books by this author. She always pulls you into the story so it feels like you are there enjoying the events just as much as the characters are. I highly recommend!

I give Summer’s Stolen: (An Urban Fantasy Novel) (Seasons of Magic Book 2) by Sarah Biglow, 5 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from book 1.*

This is a great continuation of the story. We see Ezri growing, learning to accept the help of others and to embrace the magical community she disowned long ago. The development of her character is done so well. We also get to learn more about both new characters and ones we met in book one. As time goes one, so do they, but in many different ways.

The story of the missing children is good too. Discovering that the children were of the magical community gives it a good twist, and like any good whodunit, why are left wondering the who, what, where and why. These answers were not too obvious to me, which I really liked. The book is well written and make a good story all that much more enjoyable.

If you are a fan of Urban Fantasy like I am, I highly recommend this book and series to you.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another Yesterday is the second book in the Seashells and Second Chances collection by Angela Christina Archer.
In 1966, Maggie ran away from her home town after things didn’t turn out as she’d planned. With her baby daughter in tow she finds somewhere new to forget her past and build her future.
Thirty years later, Rachel thought she had it all, a wonderful husband and successful career. But life is never that simple, and her life takes a dramatic turn, forcing her to face her past and her future.

Be warned, this book is an emotional rollercoaster. There are highs and lows that keep you turning the page for more. The characters are wonderful and I was hooked from the start. You will fall in love with Maggie, Rachel and their stories. As the story follows them both of them two time periods are covered, I loved finding out the backstories and it was easy to switch between the past and the present.
I would recommend this book to anyone.

When Absalom’s girlfriend is caught cheating, he ends up with no place to go. Vashti’s offer of housing in exchange for companionship seems heaven sent, even if it does come with a strangely specific contract.

Things are going well for both Vashti and Absalom until his friend Simeon enters the picture. With his entrance into their lives he brings unwanted drama with him. The privacy Vashti has worked so hard to protect is suddenly endangered, and Absalom sees everything he’s built with Vashti begin to crumble.

When lives are threatened, will Vashti’s solution to the problem alter the course of their lives forever?

I loved reading the Feisty Heroines Romance Collection of Shorts Anthology. These stories include strong, independent, feisty, and stubborn heroines. The stories include romance, vampires, danger, and fantasy. I love reading anthologies as I get to read stories by authors that I know and also discover new authors as well. These stories have a way of pulling you in and I found myself not wanting to put the book down. “Just one more story I would tell myself.” The authors have created wonderful storylines and unforgettable characters. One of the stories that I loved is:
Good Bones
Maggie Adams
5 out of 5 stars

I loved the story Good Bones by Maggie Adams in this box set. The main characters are stubborn, determined, and attracted to each other. The story is about family legacies, a mystery, and two people finding a connection. It has me hooked from the start and turning pages to find out what happens. It is an example of how the author has created a story with a wonderful storyline and characters. I enjoyed the historical references. This is a tale that had my emotions going up and down with the characters. It is a story perfect for this box set.

This is a collection of stories that you don’t want to miss out on.

Another Yesterday (Seashells and Second Chances Collection Book 2) by Angela Christina Archer – Review by Angela Shirley

Another Yesterday (Seashells and Second Chances Collection Book 2)Another Yesterday by Angela Christina Archer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When your world is thrown into turmoil at a young age can you recover and love and live again.

First off I need to say you will need a box of tissues, a quiet room where no one can see you cry and just soak up this glorious book. I rarely give five stars for books, although the books are brilliant in writing and characters a five star book to me has to hit me square in the chest and I have to have real gut emotion which this book does. OH MY GOSH does it.

The book follows the life of Maggie through her life and the ups and downs which follow her and boy does she have some downs, but when she finds solace in a seaside town and finds a family of sorts she starts to believe that all goods things come to those who wait. As the story goes through her life in this sleepy town it also crosses with her daughter Rachel in her life.

Rachel escaped from Shadow Brook leaving behind her family and close friends, she is a big city editor for a publishing company and has a loving husband. They have strived to have children which Maggie is pleading her to have but as the story goes through she can’t conceive so she has basically given up hope. Until one early trip back from the office to surprise her husband, her husband surprises her which has her running back to Shadow Brook and finding tragedy.

As the stories intertwine you get a feeling of the relationship Rachel had with her mother and the secrets which were buried deep all those years ago but will a stranger in the Inn open Pandora’s box and reveal a secret which has been kept from Rachel for her whole life and will she ever be the same.

I loved this book and cried so much my emotions where all over the place, the characters where rich and warm and I instantly engaged with the story from the first words. Please if there is one book you need to read it’s this one, this is the first book I have read by this author and would love to read the first book in this instalment and the rest. Thank you for letting us into your world.

Blind Magic: The Sanctuary Chronicles by India Kells – Review by Kerry Chalmers

Blind Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles #2)Blind Magic by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blind Magic. The Sanctuary Chronicles (Book 2) by India Kells. What a truly fantastic read. I adored this book. Real fantasy and a completely unique story. I couldn’t put this book down and was hooked from start to finish. India Kells is a awesome author, she’s got such a talented writing style and knows how to keep her audience captivated. Sera is a witch who’s recently lost her sight and given the gift of visions but Sera and people around her are in danger. Ian is a Wolf with past issues, who is drawn to Sera even though he shouldn’t be. These two characters were brilliant to get to know both their stories were intriguing and I enjoyed reading them.

Dead Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles, Book 3) by India Kells – Review by Kerry Baker

Dead Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles #3)Dead Magic by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dead Magic: The Sanctuary Chronicles by India Kells is a fantastic addition to this series. It has such strong and gripping characters that will pull you entirely in to the book. Violet and Finn just worked so well together, you could feel their connection despite how much they may not want it to be there.
The story was interesting too. I wanted to find out what was going on and it really made the pages turn quick. This author really knows how to write a great book. Everything I have read by her I have enjoyed and this is no exception. I would highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
