What a story to finish my 2023 reads with. I loved this story from beginning to end. It was exciting, dark, dangerous and so much more. I have to say I LOVED Ava! She was so fun to read about. She was not going to lie down and take whatever King threw at her, she definitely had a backbone and stood up to him. King is one of those characters that you know you shouldn’t like but can’t really help it – he is dark and he is absolutely a villain – he is not a nice person but his protectiveness of Ava to some extent makes him a little bit likeable. The cliff-hanger at the end has me eagerly anticipating book 2!

Wow what can I say about this book. It had me gripped from the first page and didn’t let go. It is book 1 in The Savage Duet and I definately can’t wait to read the second part. The is a very dark romance. The main male character Kingston is a very dark character. Some may even call him sadistic. When it comes to Ava he is very controlling and he wants her complete submission no matter what it takes to get it. Ava is also a strong character. I love how feisty and determined she is to protect herself and defend herself however even all Ava’s strength and determination can’t stop her from falling for the one man she hates and dispises.
Ava and Kingston’s paths crossed years earlier when Ava was a young teenager. Ever since that day Kingston was wanted her but out of respect for her father he never made a move. Now with Ava’s brother owing him money he sees his opportunity to finally get the woman he wants whether she is willing or not. It’s simple if Ava’s brother pays off the debt he will release Ava, if the debt isn’t paid then Kingston will sell her to the highest bidder. However as feelings start to grow Kingston realises that no one is ever going to have her but him.
However Ava isn’t as willing to go along with this plan. When she is kidnapped she tries everything in her power to escape and she proves herself to be defiant to every things Kingston tells her to do. However it’s not long before she can no long deny how her body reacts to him and as much as her head is telling her to fight against it and him, her body is rebelling at every turn.
This is a dark steamy romance with some topics some people may not enjoy reading. There is the captive/abductor story as well as violence that some readers may feel triggered by. Overall for me I loved it. The whole cat and mouse feeling to it and how they both tested each other is really what captivated me in the story. I can’t wait for the next one

Lannahi turned out to be a strong character that many underestimated. This story at times felt like a milder version of Game of Thrones (cleaner). Who could she trust? I felt her siblings were lying and manipulative jerks. The one she thought she loved turned out to be be a putz. Duals weren’t good but she had to do it to survive. An action filled story with drama, a little romance, and fantasy that made for a really exciting book that I couldn’t put down. The characters were well developed. You could feel from their descriptions what kind of person they were. This is a cool book and well worth the read.

An enjoyable and engaging historical cozy mystery which kept me hooked throughout. Amateur sleuth Blanche “Bang” Murninghan is fishing whilst on Santa Maria Island when a woman asks for her help. Jean McMahon wants Blanche’s help in finding her mother but to do this she would have to go to Vietnam. Her own father was killed in Vietnam during the war, and she has always wanted to know the truth surrounding his death and so decides to go. Having landed in Saigon and met ex-pat “Stick” Dahlkamp they cross the rice paddies, and venture into the jungle towns where Stick has friends who can help with the search. However, Blanche starts to have doubts about how helpful, or not, he’s being. Having traced Jean’s mothers’ steps around South Vietnam they learn that she met with an infantry scout, Hank McMahon who was with the old Americal division. Blanche is as stubborn and as determined as usual and wont rest until they find Jean’s mother, and then follow her father’s trail and discover what really happened to him after the war. The descriptive narrative brought the setting vividly to life, especially the Vietnam landscape, which made me feel immersed in the story. The author is obviously knowledgeable about the Vietnam war. The storyline kept me guessing and I loved Blanche as she’s so likeable, and I enjoyed meeting the numerous shady characters her and Jean encountered on their travels.

This was an original sci-fi, fantasy novel with an intriguing storyline and multiple fascinating characters. The story has an overall message about the environment and how our actions in the present have affected the world in the future, which is the setting of this story. Environmental attorney Maddison Bear’s Heart is chosen by those who speak to the earth and know her as Gaia, a sentient being. The Hopi people have always known the world would end and that earth would be reborn into the fifth world, and they want Maddison to lead them through the coming of this new world. When a young girl tells her that Gaia’s sister, Adelphi, a new planet will welcome them if they travel to her, the corporate military provide a ship straight away. They are glad to be leaving the ‘eco nuts’, who are always trying to protect the planet, behind. However, Colonel Miller is looking for a more permanent end to these protesters and so sabotages the ship and hunts down those who stayed. Many of those who stayed are women powered by the force of hope, but how many, if any will survive. The author did a wonderful job of bringing the setting vividly to life through the descriptive narrative, which made me feel immersed in the story. I found some of the characters a little difficult to connect with and as the story was told through multiple POV’s, I did get a bit confused early on. However, over all I found this to be an engaging read and I would happily read the next book in the series.

Although it took a bit to get into, once I got into it. I could not put it down. I devoured the last 50% + in a night / morning. I cannot wait to read the second part. Watching Ava change and her character development was amazing!! My heart broke for her a few times but it did for Kingston also. They honestly are perfect for one and other in a very complex way. The book is dark and definitely intended for mature adults. Enemies to lovers! Which can be very triggering. April’s writing style is unique but it was great. Bring on #2!

Seraphina is a cupid, but not the slushy kind with the wings and the cupids bow. Oh no she is sassy and straight to the point, not quite like the other cupids but she is determined to show Seth that he can find love.
So Seth is a play boy hockey star who can has his pick of woman and does on a regular basis, but when Seraphina literally knocks him off his pedestal he starts to understand things and finds who he truly is and can be.
This is the fourth book in this series and although it is part of a series each book is unique enough to read as a stand alone story. Each books follows a Cupid and this one is Seraphina’s turn and she is a breath of fresh air to read. The character is quirky and un-apologetically in your face and I loved her as a character which worked well with the opposite character of Seth.
The secondary characters in this book add a level which keeps you reading as you delve more and more into the world of Seth and get to know him as a person rather than an Icon. As always the story is also full of good humour and brilliant writing and can’t wait to read more from this wonderful author and series.

This is the first book I have read by this author and although it had me gripped with the initial story I felt it lingered on to long. The chemistry between the characters was off the charts and the interaction between the two was brilliant to read. I loved the frustration that Naseer held with Jade as only an older person could with a younger naïve views but this added to the drama of the story.
The frustrating part for me was his father and although you want your children to follow your wishes for him to subject them both to the drive to pull them apart added to the overall drama of the book, aswell as the secondary characters. This book was brilliant to read and leaves you wanting more at the end. I can’t wait to read book 2 in this series.

I enjoyed how strong Ava is and how much she fights Kingston to get free of his clutches. Kingston is strong, dominating, and controlling. He won’t take no as an answer. The viewpoint changes between Ava and Kingston so you can get deep into the action. The scenes are good but since it is dark it puts me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to read the next book since it ends on a minor cliffhanger.

Linda Burson, a native of Pennsylvania, but long time Connecticut resident, has been writing ever since she was given a writing assignment in school, at the age of eight. Later, as a teenager, she started out writing memoirs and attempted several nonfiction pieces.
After attending college, she worked in positions where she edited papers for others. She spent time pursuing other interests, and traveling. Much of Linda’s free time was spent reading mysteries, romance, and women’s contemporary novels.
After several attempts at writing nonfiction, but having life get in the way, she put her passion on hold again. She gave up writing to focus on raising her daughters, being a wife, running her own custom computerized embroidery business and taking care of her dog, a Lhasa Apso named Nathan.
After a serious bout of breast cancer, Linda eventually closed down her business after almost fifteen years. She decided it was time to attempt writing again. This time, however, with nothing to distract her, she decided on tackling fiction, a contemporary, commercial romance with a dark edge.
In January, 2013, she sat down with her laptop and started writing the first chapter. After a few more chapters, she began keeping notes about the details of her characters so she wouldn’t forget the important characteristics. The writing continued, and never stopped. Before she was aware of it, her idea of a single book turned into a trilogy, which turned into a much longer series called the MARCY SERIES. There are a total of 13 books in the series.
When asked about inspiration, Linda has this to say: “Nobody really inspired me to write, but I do remember my mother and father always saying ‘anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.’ Having the support and encouragement of my family is also important.”

This author Via Mari is fastly becoming one of my favorite go to authors to read. From the book I just finished Rule:Brutal Kings to the awesome Sicilian Gods series and more. They are all super good and well written , making you wanna dive in and not come up for air until you’re done and ready for the next book. So you know I just had to pick up this one. Whispered Surrender is the first book in the Sinful Duets books, it has two books in it The Wayward and Undercover. This duet got me caught hooked line and sinker. They follow Jay and Sasha: and Matt and Marenah. The two books intertwined with the lead females being twin sisters. Both stories were, omggggg, amazing and you’ll be glad that you get the books in one package so you won’t have to wait to read the second one. I can’t wait to read more book duets.

The Magic Man is book 3 of this Olympic Peninsula series. It follows the O’Connell siblings David, Maddie and the love triangle between them and Kilo. I was super duper excited to read this one after finishing the last two. This whole series is so well written and so well described that it makes me wanna go there for a visit 😂 I was happy Maddie ended up with who I wanted ( you’ll have to read to see lmao) . This can also be read as a standalone just like the rest but as always I highly suggest reading the whole series because they are awesome sauce. I can’t wait for more from this author

To Catch An Elf is a wonderfully fast paced novel that is filled with suspense. It features an elf and a not so nice guy. In addition, there is an incredibly swoon worthy fighter pilot and a dog sitter. This book is well written with an interesting plot and well developed characters. The suspense is just right and it keeps the reader interested to find out how the situation with the elf resolves itself. I definitely recommend picking this story up!

Slow burn. Growth. Twists. This is the first book I have read by the undeniably talented A Akinosho. While at first, I was iffy on the age gap between a sixteen- and twenty-six-year-old, the fact that the book covered years made it more understandable and a clear love story to overcome all. That said the book was not illicit but more of a Romeo and Juliet type story. The dual perspectives of Naseer and Jade take you on a rollercoaster of friendship turned more. Naseer is one of the Princes of Rhanaz. A race challenge with his best friend Brian lands him in several casts and bedridden for months. While Naseer had fully isolated himself from his friends he had become very angry, helpless feeling and completely hopeless, until. Jade (Mariam) at the age of sixteen had her entire world crash down around her. Her parents killed in a house fire, leaving her friends, and moving to a new country, and starting over at a new school as the one percent of the one percent for the poor girl in the school. When she first meets Naseer it’s an accident she needed to pee and accidentally found his room and couldn’t wait. In a moment of surprise to himself Naseer says three words that start the epic love story. “Sit with me” that’s all it took for them to both find someone to bring smiles back into their lives. After losing her parents Jade questioned if she could join them and Naseer questioned why he was still alive after the horrific accident. Jade gave him the biggest gift, Hope. He gave her someone she could drop her shield around and finally feel at peace and things be easy. Unfortunately, darker forces were against them and over the course of high school to college everything would change and change again. Who are the dark forces that are determined to keep them apart? Can they find a way back to each other? The emotions behind the characters are real and deep. I felt my heart break for Jade at the news of her parents. My heart ached for Naseer when he felt hopeless time and time again as the world and dark forces found every way to stop him from being happy. The moment hope was restored the book ended and I instantly stared into space ready for book two. What secrets will be revealed and will Naseer and Jade finally get there happily ever after? I enjoyed this book, it was a light hearted romance that made me feel good. The story was about the Cupid Seraphina who has a second to help a prior client who did not find true love and happiness the first time. Seraphina is a different kind of Cupid at least she did not fit what I expected of a Cupid. She had some anger issues and really was not a people person, but that made me relate to her more as that could describe me. I enjoyed this book and will look for more from this author.

Dead bodies seem to be piling up ( a little exaggeration) on this little coastal town and people are on edge and rightly so and one of Logan’s friends , Sam , is a prone suspect and she’s determined to prove him innocent but even she’s having a hard time because everything seems to point to him and she’s getting opposition as far as she goes and Al is not as it seems in this little town , this time it feel like Logan may have bitten off more than she can chew 🤷♀️
Logan never disappoints she always gets what she wants and more often than not that means she’s in the line of fire , she’s a good woman with a good heart ? I’ve really enjoyed my time with her and all she gets up to ❣️📚

Oh my what a creepy Elf. This book has some really crazy events. But I have to say, Ted is definitely the hero of this story. Really had no clue what I was getting into with this book and at times I really questioned what the heck, I stuck with it and it ended up being a good book.
Take me back!!! Whew. I love this author, I love this series. Here we are, book 3… David and Maddie (and Kilo…kinda) While this is the 3rd book, you COULD read it alone, but by reading the whole series, you truly get the whole picture, and understand more of the little things between the characters. I didn’t think I’d love another book more than the 1st, but this one is fighting REALLLLLLLY hard for that spot. If you love a great romance, with a little bit of a mystery and alll the good stuff in between, you wont wanna miss this series, or, just this book, (but absolutely read the series if you have the time!!)

I’ve read book 3 in the series and it helped a bit with the details for this book but would highly recommend reading this series in order so you can get the full picture at hand. This story picks up with Tom leaving the agency and discovering some well hidden secrets. He waits patiently for Isabella to return home. Some unexpected visitors, part of the Operation SweetPea, come to Tom and ask for his help within the human trafficking realm. One twist after another in this crime ridden story.

A King So Savage was the first book I’ve ever read by April Moran as well as the first book in the Savage Duet. Having never read this author before, I wasn’t sure what to expect but found myself impressed quickly. The story picks up immediately and leaves you invested until the cliff hanger ending. This is not a book trope I choose to read often so I welcomed the change of pace. I have read so many books lately that are written in alternating perspectives, I enjoyed that this book wasn’t written that way. While the book was fast paced, dark and entertaining, my favorite aspects were the little things like the playlist at the beginning of the book and the way each chapter begins with italicized phrases. I look forward to reading book two.

This is the first book in this series that I’ve read and I highly recommend that the books are read in numerical order to have a better understanding of the story at hand. As I started reading this book, I was a bit lost in the details. Some stories I’ve read give out some details along the way and this one gives very little so you are forewarned. Besides getting the content of the story at hand, the story was pretty good and intriguing. The story takes place with Tom and Isabella, whose father has recently passed away and plans to take his body back home to Belarus. The major difficulty in doing so for Isabella is the bounty out for her capture. The plan is to go there and back to London in five days time with the help of Tom during the journey. But when she is discovered back home, she ends up being separated from Tom and led into a life she was running away from. The only way to escape is through dangerous means and hoping that the right people can be trusted to handle the task at hand.

I’ve loved each book in this series, but this may be my favorite so far! In this book we focused on David and hearing about his experience as a doctor in Africa. Maddie and Kilo are also a focus in this story, and it will have you on the edge of your seat forgetting about your real-world duties for a bit. The author sets the scene with such vivid imagery that I felt like I was fully immersed in the Pacific Northwest! While you can likely read this as a standalone without much confusion, I highly recommend reading from the beginning to get the full backstory and experience. Don’t skip this series!

I’ve read a few books by this author and this one has been my favorite so far! It is incredibly suspenseful, and the flow of the story is great. I couldn’t read fast enough because I had to know what happened, and I read it all in one sitting. Reading about Ted and Marcie’s relationship is entertaining, but adding in their chemistry and the danger that could keep them apart takes it to the next level. If you like the romance genre with bountiful suspense intertwined, this is your next read!
Ms Barden once again gave us a lovely cozy mystery. This is set in Los Angeles in the 1930s. This book is aimed for a younger audience (teenagers), but I enjoyed it all the same.
This time, Sparky is on the hunt for some stolen jewels while a cannibal is loose. Follow Sparky while she protects her friend and tries to unveil who the cannibal is.
If you’re looking for a fast paced mystery, this one is for you!

Reading this book felt like watching a crime solving show. When a local store in the small town burns down, and no body is found, the owner is presumed to be dead. But, when a threatening note surfaces, April May is determined to help solve the case. Add in a rescue dog, a budding relationship, and the city girl who is trying to make it in the small-town…and you’ve got quite a story.
I enjoyed this story and was pleasantly surprised the turns that the story took. There seemed to me multiple storylines interwoven throughout the pages. Looking into one crime led to another mystery which led to another….you get the picture. It was entertaining and I enjoyed immersing myself into the story for a couple of hours. This is the second book in the series. Although it was understandable as a standalone, there is definitely some backstory that will be missed by not reading the first one prior to this book. Overall, a good story!

The book cover art immediately made me feel as if I was about to watch a scary movie or read an extremely scary intense suspenseful book. I began reading this and did not want to put the book down, again due to the storyline being just as intense and suspenseful as I expected. This book follows Tom, a newly retired agent who simply wants to live his life outside of the agency and with his love, Isabella. However, when two young ladies involved with a previous case contact Tom’s agency friends demanding his immediate attention, his immediate reaction is to ignore or reject. However, when Isabella asks him to do one last favor and speak to the young ladies, he begrudgingly agrees. This is when Tom’s life takes a turn. The author then introduces you to the secret mission Tom previously was involved with that revolved around a tragic human trafficking ring. In his attempt to limit the amount of people involved with this off-the-books scenario, Tom finds that everyone involved and their loved ones are in danger.
You follow the adventure to find the location of a few of the victims of the tragic ring, and gather as much intel as possible on the folks involved with the expansive trafficking network. While the reader will find themselves on the edge of their seat, I think the thrilling conclusion of this book will leave them wondering what is next.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the creation of these incredibly complex characters. I cannot wait to catch up w/ the entire series and follow the author’s success due to their incredibly creative gift of story telling.
