I have a soft spot for anything Military and this definitely didn’t disappoint.This is the story about John who believes he is broken and is trying to adapt to his life after being injured and sent back home.He finds himself being attracted to the new office manager Shannon. She’s a strong independent beautiful woman who after a couple of weird occurrences she seeks John for help.Shannon feels an attraction towards John even though he can be grumpy.Can he protect her? Can these two have a relationship? Will they get their HEA? Find out by reading this Book. I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to read more from this Author .

I have to say right off the bat that I am a bit of a skeptic about most military romances. I am a NAVY brat, and I was raised in a family with generations of family members that served our country or are currently serving. I have firsthand experienced what it feels like to have family in the thick of danger and not knowing if they will come home in one piece, or in a pine box. It’s terrifying and honestly the people we love never come back the same even if they are physically unharmed. A lot of novels can be a bit exaggerated and have that happy ending that is just, in my opinion, not realistic at all therefore I can’t enjoy the novel. This was the complete opposite situation with Embattled Heart! I adored this novel. It was real, honest, and raw. I connected with these characters so much so that I found it so hard to pull myself away from them even after I had finished the book.
I wish that I had read the prequel to this book, The Embattled Road. It didn’t kill me that I hadn’t but I will for sure go back and do so now. It would appear that this is where we get to meet the men that will be present in the forthcoming books in the Lost and Found series. Embattled Heart is the story of John and Shannon though, and it looks like going forward we should get the stories of Duncan and Chad. (I can’t wait!!)
I’m not spoiling a thing for you so a quick ditty is all you get! John Palmer, the swoony man he is, was injured in the war in Iraq. Now he is left in a wheelchair and damaged on the inside just as much. Shannon just might be the one to fix all the broken pieces if he can learn to accept her love. There is an underlying piece of suspense to the story, not as prevalent or important to me as the deeper emotional story, however it was a nice way to balance the emotional parts of the book. As for the rest of the details you will have to grab a copy of the book for yourself and devour it. I am going to buy a few extra and gift a few! Thanks so much for the great read JM Madden! I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book Embattled Minds!

Embattled Hearts by J.M. Madden is the first book in the Lost and Found series. This is another book I have had in my kindle for far too long and just how read. I wish I had not taken so long to read it. I have a huge soft spot for Veterans and wish there was more done for them. But an injured Veteran has my heart completely and totally.
John had a major injury while serving overseas and still resents the limitations the injury has placed on him not only in his daily life but also professional. He is just a grumpy angry Marine, but when he’s around Shannon some of that seems to fade.
Shannon loves working with the agency and the guys. Being the only female in the office doesn’t bother her a bit. She has a ghost from the past come back or at least she thinks it’s that ghost. Thankfully John is able to step in and help her.
There is suspense, romance and some hot moments in this book. I think the biggest thing it shows is love is blind. If you truly love that person you don’t notice the things that they consider imperfections. Already read the synopsis of the next book and looking forward to getting to it soon.

This is a military romance novel. John Palmer was injured in Iraq where he lost the use of his legs. He hasn’t felt like a real man since it happened. John and a few other veterans opened a detective agency called Lost “N” Found Investigative Services. The cool thing about this agency is that it only hires veterans, giving them a purpose again and allowing them to fit into society. This is where he meets Shannon Murphy. She is hired as the office manager. Everyone adores her but none more so than John. For the first time in a long time, he is attracted to a woman. He’s less miserable when she’s around. He knows he’s falling for her but doesn’t believe he can be the man that she needs because he is stuck in a wheelchair.
Shannon wasn’t looking for love but finds herself instantly attracted to John. Even though he’s always grumpy, she notices that he is less so around her. She wants to make a move but is nervous that he won’t reciprocate. The action starts when someone from her past starts threatening her again. John and the rest of the veterans step in to protect her.
The good thing is that you never really know who is after her until the end. The author kept the mystery going which kept me intrigued. The suspense was really good. I loved the fact that the men weren’t “ perfect”. Whether they were crippled (like John) or amputees or had PTSD, each had their own issues. I think the author did an excellent job of showing the after effects and psychological issues that veterans go through after returning from the war. The author showed the slow healing process of trying to reintegrate themselves into a normal life. The novel was well written and thought out even the love scenes were realistic and touching. This truly is an amazing book and a must read!

Embattled Hearts was a good 4 star read and the first book in the Lost and Found series.
There are some things you can’t change in life, who you’re related to, taxes, the nasty boss you’d like to shove off a roof. And you can’t choose who you’re attracted to.
Shannon is hired on to work at LNF Investigative Services. And when she meets John sparks fly between them. John doesn’t think that he has a chance with Shannon, why would she want a guy like him?(broke my heart) John is struggling with his injuries suffered from being in the Marines. He isn’t able to go out into the field like the other detectives and hates it.
When Shannon’s safety is at risk due to a stalker, John offers to stay with her for protection. Will they find out who the stalker is? Will they give in to their attraction?
You’re the first person I’ve ever been with who doesn’t make me want to shoot somebody out of boredom -John
My emotions were all over the place, with some teary eyed moments. I feel these two were meant for each other and you could feel their connection on so many levels. The secondary characters were great and I was very happy with the ending. The struggles that John went through trying to deal with his injuries is exactly what alot of our military go through everyday. To have this in a story brought some realism to it, kudos to J.M. Madden

Embattled Hearts is the first in a series and I honestly couldn’t put it down. I was surprised it was book one, as I felt like I know these characters already. I don’t know if that makes sense but they were just so complex, personality wise, and developed. Anyways, John is an abrupt and grumpy guy, he has some self esteem issues to work through and can be kind of a bear. Shannon mostly rolls with it, though, and I feel like the fact that she communicates so well is ultimately what helps them get through anything. It was interesting to see the struggles people can go through after getting hurt in the military, but also how they can form a commeradery. There was the suspense element to this book, as well, and a mystery of who is doing these things and why. All around, I found it enjoyable and look forward to the rest of the stories.

Embattled Hearts is the first book in the Lost and Found Series by J.M Madden. This is my first read by Ms. Madden and I am happy to say that after reading this story, it definitely won’t be my last. Ms. Madden writes an engaging, emotive and romantic wounded warrior/military romance that was not only believable- but inspiring and meaningful as well. There is much more to this great story than the beautiful romance. Thee is suspense, danger, action, camaraderie, brotherhood, drama, chemistry, and some hot, steamy scenes that will leave you hot under the collar. John Palmer was badly injured in Iraq, which ended his Military career and changed his life forever. John has become quite bitter and angry, and has spent the past 5 years trying to pick up the pieces of his life and move on. With his two friends from his military days, Chad and Duncan, they open Lost ‘N’ Found Investigation Services. When they hire a new office manager, John feels wants her so badly- but his disability has left him feeling like ‘less’ of a man and he really doesn’t feel like he has anything to offer her. Shannon Murphy has had a crush on her boss since meeting him six months earlier. He may be angry and grumpy, but she finds him entirely sexy. But when strange things start happening and danger seems to be stalking her, it’s John she looks to for help. What ensues makes for avid reading! I applaud the fact that while Ms. Madden depicts some sensitive issues, she does so in compassionate and respectful way, whilst also highlighting the hardships faced by wounded warriors and veterans. The obstacles that they face not only to recover from any injury, but also in having to carry the memories of their experiences with them, as well. It’s not just the physical scars/wounds, but mental and emotional ones too that are a little more difficult to deal with. Going from proud, able bodied Marine- to having a life changing injury such as John’s, takes a lot of adjustment- physically and mentally. The pride is still there, as is the sense of responsibility and expectation- and being looked at or treated differently is not easy to get over. This story brings a lot of these issues into focus, as Ms. Madden gives us a glimpse into the toll that has on a soldier and the sacrifices they make for their country- as well as a little of what they endure when things go awry while in service. The story was also quite romantic, and I loved the connection between Shannon and John. I love that she saw past John’s disability and found him to be virile and sexy despite it all. Ms. Madden crafts wonderful characters- giving them strengths, but also not shying away from giving them some vulnerability, depicting them in a very honest way. Ms. Madden’s story is so well written, realistic, believable, very emotive and entirely captivating.

This is a romantic suspense story. I loved all these guys! Who doesn’t have a soft spot for military men??? These are men who have been damaged physically as well as mentally. They are now just trying to get by and survive day by day. So opening Lost N Found Investigative has helped them all.
John was an amazing character even though he was grumpy and hates people. I loved being inside his head and seeing all the angst and turmoil boiling through his veins. I could easily understand his feelings. His childhood to his adulthood…he is one who slipped through and came out blazing on the other side.
Shannon is a wonder herself. She has a soft heart and loves to cook for those men. She is a woman with a past. It’s been under wraps but now it’s coming back to haunt her. She was so so good for John. Shannon is very confident and that is what John needs.
There were side stories which include one with Duncan and one with Chad, Zeke and a few others. They were all interesting but I think Chad, Zeke and crew were great and What a fun way to get to know them. I am seeing possible future stories here.
This is a first time author for me. The story flowed nicely and the characters were strong. I am loving this crew so I can’t wait to read the next one….preview in the back so I got a Sneak Peak!!!!

Embattled Hearts by J.M. Madden is the first book in the Lost and Found series. This is clearly the start of what will be a great series. I do love reading a good military romance, especially when the H is injured in some way. So right from the start this book ticked a couple of boxes for me. Then throw in some interesting characters who worked well together. You could feel the attraction between them. Top it off with a well written and well thought out story line and you know you are in for a trolling ride. I have read books by this author previously but this one is the one that probably caught my interest the easiest. It was full of action and kept the plot interesting from start to finish. A great book and I can’t wait to see what else is to come from this series.

Embattled Hearts is the first book in the Lost and Found series by J.M. madden. This is the first book I have read by J.M. Madden, but definitely won’t be the last. This military romance is full of mystery and suspense. I love the concept of the Lost ‘N’ Found Investigative Service and look forward to reading more stories by these brave men. John and Shannon both work for the Lost ‘N’ Found Group, so when Shannon has a situation with a stalker it only makes sense for John to stay with her until the situation is taken care of. The chemistry between the two is off the charts, but John will have to overcome some of his insecurities. This fast paced book is full of twists and turns, and I just couldn’t put it down until the end. If you like military, romance or suspense this is the book for you.

The author did an amazing job making this story realistic and connecting me with the characters. Shannon is a really likeable character and just what John needs to feel alive again. John who at first isn’t the most likeable guy, which is understandable because of his demeanor after everything he has been through, but he will grow on you. I enjoyed the banter and sexual tension between these two.I also enjoyed the action and danger that goes along with the romance in this story. If you want to know where their story goes you need to read it to find out. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I recommend this book.

I love stories that create a place were people know their own issues but are working to better themselves. John is an ex-marine he was injured and loss the use of his legs. I think a lot of his meanness comes from the fact that he can no longer walk. Shannon was a doll. I liked that she didn’t look at John as a cripple but just a man. Their relationship was a slow ride but it was perfect. Each character had things to overcome. The author wrote an compelling story about finding yourself and learning to love yourself. Embattled Hearts by J. M. Madden has an excellent understanding of a “broken” military soul. She has fully developed characters and a great story line. I love her approach with service members coming home who are injured in the line of duty. This is a hard concept at times because unless you live it you will not understand. In Embattled Hearts it goes one step further. Here is a John, a wounded hero who lost the use of his legs and it a wheel chair. He feels like a broken man and no one will want him. In comes Shannon who is not looking for a relationship who just happens to work with John. She has some back story, which comes back to haunt her with a stalker. John and Shannon both are fighting feelings that they have for one another. They both think that they cannot be the person the other one wants. When John decides that he will move in with Shannon to protect her from the stalker is when their feelings come out. Will John ever feel good enough for Shannon? Will Shannon let down her guard and let John in? You will have to read the story to see the exciting conclusion of this story.

The story Embattled Hearts (Military Romantic Suspense) (Lost and Found Book 1) by J.M. Madden is an amazing story that I loved reading. It had me hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It has mystery, suspense, and romance. These three things make it a book that kept me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of John Palmer and Shannon Murphy. John is a man that is adapting to his life after he returns home injured. He believes himself to be a broken man. He has found himself attracted to Shannon the new office manager at the Lost ‘N’ Found Investigative Services. As his attraction to her grows stronger will he overcome his self-doubts and start a relationship with her? Shannon is a woman who is beautiful, strong, and independent. With some of the strange occurrences that have been happening she finds herself looking to John for help. Shannon also feels an attraction towards John if only she can get past his grumpy exterior. John is in protection mode when it comes to Shannon and vows to not let anything happen to her. With the danger escalating will they find out who it is that is targeting Shannon? What does the future hold for John and Shannon? Will they get an HEA? Read this book to find out. I grew to love John and Shannon’s characters with each chapter that I read. The heat between these two is red hot and there are steamy scenes included that will make the temperature in the room rise. This story also has additional characters that are introduced and most are friendly and helpful to John and Shannon. I enjoyed reading about the way they interact. There are also characters that have their own agenda and will do anything to make their plans succeed. Will these plans be foiled? This is a wonderfully written book. Highly recommended reading.

There is great world building of the agency the veterans work for. We get to meet characters who I assume will be in future stories.
The honesty with how the story talks about reintroduction of certain life experiences after having your world change.
The brotherhood’s importance in keeping bonds to help each other grow.
The way this story is told… It’s not bogged down with a lot of unnecessary details. While at times the subject matter is complex, it is talked about without being preachy or judgemental about the topics .
The romance. Above everything this is a classic romance that I recommend.
I was able to read this story in one sitting and look forward to read the other books in this series.

The author created a military-romance that is true to life and the characters are connectable and lovable. The way she protrade PTSD was great and understandable. This story is about John a character that is angry, bitter but didn’t see Shannon coming who is caring, charming. There seems to be an attraction right from the beginning but John doesn’t feel that he is good enough for her. Will he overcome his insecurities to let Shannon in? I highly recommend this book.

5-Stars This novel was amazing. I could not put it down and was hooked from page one. There were several things that tugged at my heart strings as I read. I loved Shannon and John’s character. I really enjoyed their building relationship as the book progressed. I also enjoyed how the author portrayed the vets in this novel. Each one has their own struggles with their disabilities and to see how they lived with such strength was beautiful. I feel that this novel could be very inspirational to many because of that. I totally did not foresee what happened with Shannon and the ending was amazing. I felt so many different emotions while reading this novel and cant wait to read more from this author.

Yaaahhhoooo! This is book one of a series! I love strong female and male characters. I love when two strong characters fight the pull they feel. I love when two strong characters take an adventure and prove just how strong they really are. I love it even more when those two strong characters finally realize they are meant to be together.
This story is about Shannon (something about that name!!) who is smart and attractive. Who also happens to be very attracted to her boss, John. John is part of the team that runs the Lost ’N’ Found Investigative Service where many vets turn to after serving their time in the military. Many are wounded and are just trying to survive civilian life. Shannon is being targeted. But now she has the protection she didn’t have before, John. I loved how these two characters, along with their friends, work together.
I thought I had read other books by Madden but after looking at my TBR list I have found a couple of her books waiting for me! I can’t wait to see if those are just as good as this one!
I always find that I have a soft spot for military romances. Thankfully this book did not disappoint. From the first page to the last, the author held my attention with her great characters and plot development. Everything felt authentic and realistic. These characters felt like people I already knew. This was a wonderful book and I am looking forward to reading more in this series and from this author.

Embattled Hearts (Lost and Found #1) by J.M. Madden was an steady, entertaining, military romance with a dash of mystery, that had my hooked.
My first read by this author, I didn’t know what to expect. The synops was intriguing, and the reviews positive, but military books aren’t normally my type of read, only because I am a serving member, and well, I don’t think I need to tell you why I tend to not go for these type of books. Picky isn’t the word.
Anyways, I have to say I was impressed with the research, and the knowing the little ins and outs of how the service world works. Though I am Canadian, the inner workings of most militaries are the same, especially when it comes to the way we interact with one another. I saw that, and that alone kept me reading.
As for our MC’s, I liked Jack right away. I believe that had to do with the dual POV. We get to see inside his pain, and know why he’s apprehensive, especially towards Shannon. Speaking of Shannon, there was just something about her that irked me just a little. I think, it had to do with how she was portrayed, small, needing to be protected, motherly, too freaking kind, and innocent. It was a little mary sueish, and very typical for these types of books when the leav male MC is a alpha male type. I’m not saying I didn’t like her as a character, it was just, she was too perfect, and I found it hard to connect with her.
Overall I did very much enjoy this read, the way the romance was developed was layered, and it wasn’t a insta-love situation, this is two people crushing and already knowing one another, but not knowing how to express it. I liked that build up, it added that needed layer, that almost made up for Shannon’s lack of character depth. The added mystery of whos stalking her was a nice bonus, and it gave them that chance to finally get passed the BS.
I hope you take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will not only find something to love about this book, but you will be drawn in by its life like surroundings, its deep solid plot and, its interesting characters.

Embattled Hearts (Military Romantic Suspense) (Lost and Found Book 1) by J.M. Madden had me hooked with the characters and the storyline. It is a very emotional read and heartbreaking but it would not be the great story that it is without the background information on these wounded warriors. You can feel the pain and suffering these characters have been through.
Johns’ devastating injury whilst in Iraq has left him wheelchair bound and rude and bitter, angry and grumpy and a bit anti social, as he no longer feels whole, like a real man and definitely no one anyone could love. It certainly hasn’t been a problem until now, now when a certain sassy and takes no prisoners, sexy goddess has entered his life. But when she is threatened nothing and no one can keep him away but will his own insecurities keep them apart.
I am loving this first book and have a thirst for more.
