I love that Janice is selflessly giving the proceeds from this book to support Ukraine families who might have lost their homes or become refugees in other countries. Amaleigha Makes a New Friend is a sweet read for all ages not just kids. I read this book with my grandbabies, and they loved it. It was fun and engaging and left the kids wanting more. It is full of wonderful and colourful drawings that really bring the story to life. It is a book aged for kids 4 – 8 who will be delighted as they go on this adventure with Amaleigha. It is an inspiration to the kids who read it. Amaleigha has such a big heart & wants to help others especially her new pen pal in the Ukraine. It was interesting to learn a little about the Ukraine and a war that threatens.

This is such a touching and relevant story that really engages any reader. I honestly think that I became more emotional and invested in this story than my kids. The way the author navigates such a touch and yet topical subject matter is brilliant. It was written in a way that made it understandable and educational for children but was also still interesting for them. This whole series has been great. Each book has touched on a different topic but each book has been amazing to read. I think this one is definitely my favourite so far and our whole household is waiting for the next one.

A really informational way of discussing the changing world climate with children. This is the story of Amaleigha, an American 3rd grader, who gets a Ukrainian pen pal, Vova, through her teacher. During the course of the relationship, they learn about each other and their cultures; however, during this time the Russia-Ukraine war breaks out and suddenly Amaleigha is worried about her friend. Through this picture book, we see how differences can be made and we are given the opportunity to see these types of situations through the eyes of children…which is something we sometimes need to be reminded of. This was well done and the topic matter was handled delicately and very well. This is a great book to read to your littles (or students) to show them that differences can be made, no matter how small.

Another book that I found to love. It was cool to find to a book that gave bite-size facts about Ukraine to children while they read about pen pals and letter writing. I remember doing that when I was younger. It was fascinating and so very exciting to get letters. I love reading Ameleigha books when they come out. My granddaughter was here when I got this out to read and she thought this the most exciting thing we did all day yesterday. She’s a bookworm like her Nana. She asked so many questions. She loves to learn and she got to learn about a new culture and other children by reading a story with her Nana. I lover storytime and these books are perfect because they develop learning. Ameleigha is always teaching such wonderful and beautiful ideas that can help strengthen the world to help children develop their own creativity. It’s a must read to share with the children in your life.

Amaleigh’s school class has decided to become penpals with other students in Ukraine as a writing project and a way to learn about how other students live in different countries. Little did they know when they started this project that Russia and Ukraine would become involved in a war. Amaleigha learns about her new friend’s home, school, and friends only to find out that her friend is surrounded by bombs and unsure what will happen to his dad who has joined the Ukraine military.
Sometimes when you dream, it takes a while for it to become a reality. I have wanted to write books since I was a little girl and fell in love with my hometown library. I read books at school, at home, in bed, and even in the bathtub. I just couldn’t get enough of faraway places, brave heroes and heroines, and the experience of getting lost in a new and amazing adventure in each book. Through the years, I became the owner of a preschool, a public librarian, a school librarian, and a children’s yoga teacher but no matter what I did I shared stories with children. Finally, at age 62, I published my first book but I know it won’t be my last.

“Because no matter what happens in our lives, we’re guaranteed opportunities to understand what we’re made of.” This is a line from the foreword written by founder of Brave Healer Productions and Brave Kids Books, Laura Di France, and I absolutely love it. It is so simple a sentence yet so profound! This book is much like that sentence as the Short Stories in it are small tales that pack a big punch of bravery, life lessons, and just great writing. This may be a children’s book, but it truly touched my heart while reading it and I can’t wait to share it with my family as I’m sure it will become a new favorite for them as well.
What is bravery? It can show up in many different forms in many different lives and this book shows 24 great examples of all different types. There are 24 short stories all with amazing characters who all in some way experience something that helps them find their bravery.
I really enjoyed Chapter 10 Amaleigha Tames a Bully by Janice Pratt where the class learns productive ways to deal with a bully. It was a nice touch that Amaleigha knew she could trust her parents enough to talk to them about the problem as well. This definitely gives kids a great example of what can happen if you encourage each other instead of fighting back and causing more ill will.
Another one of my favorite stories is Chapter 16 The Magic Inside (Uncovering The Superhero Within) by Lorie Weed. In it, Alan, though scared, faces his fears and gets past the sick feeling his fears are causing in order to help another living creature, which is a truly heroic act. Growing up, I often made myself sick with worrying and being afraid, so I loved seeing how this boy who had so much to fear was able to overcome it and to see himself as a hero through another’s eyes. New perspectives often work wonders and I think it’s important for our kids to be able to learn to look at themselves this way as well.
Do yourself a favor and get this book! Kids can learn a lot from the stories inside and adults will enjoy the heartwarming tales. I just wish I’d had this when I was younger as I think it would’ve helped me with my anxiety and to find my bravery back then.

This is a great selection of short stories. Its a good way to connect with younger children and help them to deal with life’s hurdles. This book has topics that range from building confidence and bullies and dealing with loss. Each story has a lesson to learn. I’ll be keeping this one around to read to my autistic son every now and then.

I talks about emotions, both good and bad, the important of noticing and feeling them and how this can help someone to be brave and face their challenges head on, no matter where or what they are.
This collection is inspiring for all ages and although it is written for kids, adults can take inspiration and experience from it too, a lovely book which is suitable for anyone and everyone which I would highly recommend.

What a great collection of short stories great for any age about how to be brave. I think we could all use some encouragement to be brave in any situation and these stories had such a variety! This book of short stories is a winner for me. This is a book for children but absolutely can be enjoyed by adults just as much! Each little story is a vibrant lesson about what it means to be brave. This would be a wonderful tool for parents or guardians to read along with their little and create a dialogue around each story and its message. This book includes great storytelling, and at the same time, keeps the stories short enough to keep hold of little attention spans. Brave kids is a collection of short stories by different authors, some doctors-likely psychiatrists. They each focus on a difficult issue that children may face, sometimes from the perspective of an animal. They may show how a squirrel deals with bullying. Or how a horse may address being orphaned. Or how a child can o10vercome the fear of sleeping alone for the first time. I liked the collection, and think it could be a good book for a teacher or parent to have on hand. However, I think it would be better to have pictures and have the look if a true children’s book. It would hold the interest more of the little ones. I also think it should be divided into topics, as there were multiple stories that addressed the same topics. These stories are similar to fables, in that they are meant to teach us a lesson or help us navigate through a problem. Most seemed geared toward 5 to 10 year olds, but a few seemed a bit more mature content. I read a couple to my seven year old, but did not read him the whole collection.

Today, at my scouts meeting, I had a long talk with a Scout about bravery. We talked about how we can still feel scared and yet still be brave. I immediately thought of this book and we talked about all types of forms of bravery. It was definitely a core moment for me and I loved hearing it all from an amazing 11 year old.
I love finding books that I can share with my children, and this book did not disappoint. I found myself sharing snippets of the stories with other kids in my family and now in Scout group. My daughter and I love reading together before bed and we tried to relish this book as much as possible. I know we will revisit it again.

This beautiful book (the stories and the illustrations) offers a series of short stories dealing with big emotions and situations including tragic losses, facing fears, having confidence, meeting those who look, speak or have customs different than you, dealing with neurodivergency, those with special needs, and more. It’s a beautiful way to teach courage, acceptance, coping mechanisms and more.
There were a lot of inspiring stories and good conversations with my kids about what certain story aspects may mean and a lot of wheels turning in little heads. This is a beautiful way to spend some time together and get some important topics out in the open and appropriate either for independent readers or as an opportunity for sharing these beautiful stories together with your kids.

What an amazing group of short stories! There’s a lot of brave kids experiencing all sorts of different things in life. Every kid can find a story to relate to, or a kid to look up to. This is a great book for kids who may not feel so brave. It’s good to read about other kids their age who were able to pull through some tough times. Very inspiring.

This is a great collection of short stories for kids. My girls (ages 9 and 10) liked many of these stories, and I cried reading some of them. Each short story takes on a situation in which children may realistically face. For instance, some of them handle the loss of a loved one, or bullying and other situations. I would highly recommend this book for parents to read, and share stories as they may be helpful to children, but also may handle situations that aren’t necessarily “easy reading” for young children, unless the situation arises that may be helped by one of these stories.

Brave Kids is a Anthology of twenty-four short stories by various authors from around the world. I loved everything about this collection and the powerful message that comes with each story. This s is intended for readers ages 6-12 years old. I would say children as well as adults can take away something from this collection. We learn different ways to be brave,how to not give up on our dreams, go after what you want. We learn different things to deal with different sensory situations ,to be kind and how courage can help overcome diversity. I really enjoyed Amaleigha Tames a Bully: Kindness can change a hard heart by Janice Pratt. This story shows bravery by being herself and asking for help when you need it and standing up to the meany bully. My son is five and we are working on different ways to express our emtions,how to use our words to ask for things and how to deal with different sensory situations. He asked questions about why each of the kids showed bravery and courage to face different things. I love that he loves to read and he was sad for some of the kids in some of the stories.I highly recommend reading this collection and who knows you might find a few new authors.

A very fine book touching on few sensitive topics to children, teens and adults alike, Brave Kids is a collection of six short stories which delves deep into emotional aspects behind loss, emotional turbulence and bullying. These are the issues which we adults suffer as well and we do know that emotional balance can only be achieved when we are brave enough to face these issues internally.
Bravery does not mean being a super hero , bravery means not being afraid of the dark, bravery means helping others in their times of need, bravery means treating nature with respect. This is a very meaningful book and I would recommend my children also to read . Loved every bit of it.

This book is fantastic and is one that I will be reading aloud to my class at the beginning of the school year. Each story focuses on a child who is being brave by overcoming obstacles. It particularly focuses on navigating and overcoming feelings and challenges. Through these stories the reader can see how each child became resilient. This is such an important message that all children need to hear and see reinforced. I feel that these stories are so important and should definitely be read aloud to all children. This is such a great and important read.

This is a wonderful collection of children’s stories that are short enough for most attention-spans (wiggly worms) and long enough to fit in some good life lessons. The illustrations help draw everyone in and are adored throughout this book. I enjoyed reading this entire collection with my two kids who are 7 and 11. I feel like there were some great conversation starters in each chapter, and we paused to talk about what they would do in each situation or what the underlying issues could be.
Two stories really stood out for me were “Catch Your Thoughts Before They Ruin Your Day” by Samantha Ena Minichiello and “Amaleigha Tames a Bully: Kindness Can Change a Hard Heart” by: Janice Pratt.
Catch Your Thoughts Before They Ruin Your Day is incredibly relatable to me even now because even adults have emotionally turbulent times, and some of us weren’t taught the best coping mechanisms. My kids especially enjoyed it because they have recently been learning about fixed mindset vs growth mindset, so it was really cool timing for this to come into our lives.
Amaleigha Tames a Bully is truly a work of art. Unfortunately, bullies seem to be in every grade at every school, but what happens if we dedicate time to uncovering the root of it all? I loved this because it’s easy to shrug off a bully as a mean person that you should just ignore, but when you have a bad day, week, or month, don’t you just really want to feel needed and loved? This sparked the longest and most compassionate conversation with my kiddos! I highly recommend picking this up for the classroom or your family. This is a book of short stories highlighting different ways kids can be brave. It give kids a view ways to cope and be brave during trying times in their lives. The stories are relevant and based on real life issues that our kids face in today’s times. I think every parent can find something in this book that will help explain or to help their child relate in order to start talking about sensitive issues such as bullying, anxiety, a new sibling, loss, or lack of self confidence.

This is such a wonderful selection of short stories and I really enjoyed them all. It was great to read a few familiar authors and also find some new ones. Each story in this anthology covers a different topic so there’s definitely something for all types of children in this book. it covers topics such as bullying, phobias. I loved that each story tried to remind us that although we may be sad, suffering or afraid we are all brave. One of the stories I loved was Tonight it the Night by K J KaSchula I read this with my little boy as we try to get him to go into his own bed by himself. It was a really cute read! Another story I really enjoyed was Amaleigha Tames a Bully: Kindness Can Change a Hard Heart by Janice Pratt – having read about Amaleigha before I loved that she featured in a story in this anthology. She is such a wise one for such a young age! I love reading and sharing her stories with my little boy.
