Sleeping with the Enemy (Astoria Royals Book 3) by Deborah Garland – Review by Kerry Baker

Sleeping with the Enemy (Astoria Royals, #3)Sleeping with the Enemy by Deborah Garland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is one of the most gripping that I have read this year. It was dark, intense, fast paced, exciting and so well written. I could not put it down once I had started reading. I was pulled into the characters and their story. It felt so gritty and real. They are definitely two of my favourite characters.
This author knows how to write such varied and interesting books. This one feels so different to some of the others I have read by her but it is just as good. I could have read this book for so much longer. I would highly recommend this story.

What an interesting take on the story of Eros and Psyche. You get so much in this story. Abduction vacation, enemies to lovers, strangers to lovers, dark romance, pain, hurt, betrayal and love. You get it all. The connection the main characters have from the start is undeniable. With all the twists and turns, it keeps your interest! Super excited for the next book!

As with every other book I have read by this author, this one is detailed, descriptive and well written. I loved watching this story unfold and it really seemed like we could get a feel for Ancient Egypt and what is was like. The characters are so vivid and interesting. They fit with the story perfectly and really captivated my attention.
With every book you read from this author you can really feel her passion from ancient history. It is on every page, in every detail. It makes her books so much easier to connect with and this book is no exception. I loved this book as soon as I started reading it and I am already looking forward to the next book.

This was a new read for me. I’m not usually into historical type books. This story was very well written. The characters are poised and their interactions flow nicely throughout the story. The bits of history and culture that are sprinkled throughout the book are informative and work well into the story. You truly can close you eyes and get the feeling as though you’re in Egypt. I recommend this book if you love historical and mysteries.

I really loved these books. I’ve loved this author’s work since the first book. Their knowledge of ancient Egyptian history and all the intricate details are amazing and captivating and really brings this story to life.
This is the first book in the Hani’s Daughter’s Mysteries series.
In this story we are with Neferet and Bener-ib. They have moved and set up their own place to provide medical aid to the poorer people who wouldn’t normally have access to it. However things go the way they planned as no one comes to them. They don’t understand why people are so skeptical of them and untrusting of their care. They think by approaching a fellow practitioner they could find a way of sharing the load but how wrong they were.
Add to this intense rivalry a unsolved murder. When a man is brought into their care dying it is clear he was murdered. But why would someone want to kill a florist? Who is responsible for this murder? Neferet is her father’s daughter so she embarks on trying to solve this mystery as well as ward off the danger that comes to them from their rival practitioner.
This story is action packed and the indepth knowledge the author has about Ancient Egypt really brings these stories to life for me.

Tempting Fate (Black Shamrocks MC: Australia Book 1) by Bella Faust – Review by Jo Wright

Tempting Fate: a dark and angsty love triangle romance (Black Shamrocks MC: Australia Book 1)Tempting Fate: a dark and angsty love triangle romance by Bella Faust
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is definitely a dark book, but not nearly as dark as in the prequel Craving Control. Beware of the trigger warnings, because it does get down to the nitty-gritty in some parts of the book, but if you like dark and soulful books, this is the one for you! Love, hate, worship, deceit, betrayal, altruism, infidelity, and extreme tension; this book has it all. The love between Lily and Venom is so pure and raw, but gets overshadowed by each character’s inability to stop themselves from putting themselves in danger for each other and the ones that they love. Are they soulmates or are they just two people that fell in love at a young age and have fooled themselves into thinking that they are each others’ forever? I am dying to find out! Between the malice of the president of the club, the games that the rivals are playing at, and the potential rat in the nest, it’s left me wondering… just who will be Lily’s husband by the end of the next book and where does that leave the club? Absolutely phenomenal and must read!

Goldilocks and the Six Simple Machines (Science Folktales) by Lois Wickstrom. This author has become my very favorite children’s author and my nephews love her books. This one is a new take of Goldilocks and the three bears. In this addition Goldilocks breaks into the bears house but instead of messing things up she fixes thing. She does eat the porridge but with science she finds a way to put milk in it to cool it off. She ends up leaving the house better than when she got there. Such good lessons in this book. My nephews and I loved this book! It would make a good gift as well.

I found this book to be quite enjoyable. The characters were quite unique and relatable even being based in the Egyptian ancient times. The cozy mystery was really a nice twist. Having the girls figuring it out was a nice plot because it showed them being strong and persevering through the challenges that came their way. The premise was a really good story. I look forward to reading more in this series.

The Ring of Eagna (The Cross of Ciaran #4)The Ring of Eagna by Andrea Matthews
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The excitement to read the next in this series. I am a big fan of this series. The author has written it to feel so authentic. She includes a map, glossary and a dictionary. The characters are so uniquely written that they are such a joy to read. Ciaran and his brother can make me feel like I’m on the treasure hunt with them because of all the descriptions and the stories that are shared. Cait is torn, yet not, because there are so many to watch the kids. I loved trying to figure out which is the bad guy. I don’t think I would want to go on family vacations with them because they always end up in trouble, but they roll with it. I’ve loved this series and I can’t wait to read more books from this author. I love her style of writing and how authentic she makes it feel. This is a must read.

Riordan and Priscilla’s story had me right from the start. Man, the action was there. Her tragic story from her teen’s ripped my heart out (the author does give a trigger warning. Make sure to read it). These two come back together and the action is sparking and full of chemistry as they try to avoid but can’t. I haven’t read the first two in the series but you can bet I will now. I loved the characters. They just fit the mafia stereotype so well. Priscilla didn’t quite fit the mafia daughter type but she’s trying to overcome so much. The story can be graphic but it’s a good romance that is worth reading.

I thoroughly enjoy this series. Reading about Kimber and Fabian’s romance was heartwarming and thrilling. I love how much the supernatural creatures mix. They love who they want and they break barriers. It gets a tad steamy but nothing too raunchy, there’s lots of action, and I couldn’t help but keep reading. Definitely a great read for those who love the paranormal.

A fan of erotic psychological thrillers that are full of steam and angst, dark romance that doesn’t shy away from the pain and violence of life, but a devoted hater of the way the villain is always magically redeemed by his love for the heroine or the amazing coincidence whereby the hero just happens to sweep in and save his woman before she can really be hurt, Bella Faust spent years hoping that her favourite dark romance authors would go balls to the wall in one of their dark romance books… or even better write a whole series of these stories.

During that period of misguided longing, she worked as a finance manager at her local university, studied for her MBA, completed a BA in English, raised her two kids, taught English to high schoolers, volunteered as a Lifeline crisis counsellor, drove her husband mad with her complaints about the dearth of true dark psychological romance books, and dipped her toe into ghost-writing and editing.

Then she decided to write the books she wants to read for her-damn-self.

And, now, she’s inviting you inside her madness… as long as you make sure to check the trigger warnings beforehand!

Twisted Eros (Modern Mythica Book 1)Twisted Eros by Aria Skylar
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a good 4 star read. I was pulled right in by the author’s writing. It was a dark and twisted Greek mythology. This was very interesting for sure. Kay agrees to let her sisters arrange a vacation for her, but it isn’t your usual vacation. Eros is mysterious and Kay finds herself wanting more from him. We get some very steamy moments that will leave you feeling very warm, we also get drama, betrayal and so much more. The author does a great job with her writing and pulls you right into the story. All of the characters added a great element to the story. I look forward to reading more from her. 1-click and get started today.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I personally dislike HOAs, having lived in one that didn’t allow for more eco friendly yards and did nothing when neighbors emptied their pool repeatedly into my yard, so I loved the refreshing take and bickering between the neighbors in this book. Instead of a “whodunnit” mystery, this one revolves more around the culture of the community and trying to come to a consensus on what the community means to the members that live there.

I loved the funny anecdotes the best, from the bickering about the Oxford comma at a board meeting to stealing a neighbor’s dog with good intentions. A fast summer read novella that I would recommend reading.

When I started reading this book I went into it blind, without reading the blurb or any reviews. From the title, I expected a cozy mystery with some quirky hero who figures it all out. Instead, I got an entertaining story about a community of people, all with different stories and histories. It was lovely getting to know the characters, even if the book were a slower pace than I had expected.
This author is still relatively new to me. Having only read a few books I am still getting used to her writing style but I enjoy the fact that each book is so different. This book was thoroughly enjoyable.

This is the first in the Shadow Defense Security series, this instalment focuses on Keira and Cade. This Romantic Suspense story hooks you from the beginning and surprises you with twists and turns. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, another twist is thrown in.

I loved the characters in this book, Keira was a strong independent professional woman who was able to be open and Cade was strong, protective without being overbearing and skilled. The increasing danger to Keira increases the tension as Cade tries to save her before it’s too late but also increases the chemistry between the pair.

I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait for the next in the series!

I loved the humour sprinkled in, it had me smiling like an idiot while reading thankfully my only audience consisted of a cat and dog.
The scenes and characters were well-written and made believable. The issues they each face made it truly feel like a small community, each with their own contributions and life stories.

I enjoyed the story the author told and look forward to reading more from this author.

Shadowed Obsession: An Action-Packed Romantic Suspense Thriller (Shadow Defense Security Series Book 1)Shadowed Obsession: An Action-Packed Romantic Suspense Thriller by Mavery Ellscott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Shadow Defense series and I can’t wait for more. The author does an amazing job with this story, I was gripped from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. It has everything i love in a story, a dangerous situation, a strong protective man and a woman who is independent but not afraid to be vulnerable.
Keria O’ Ryan is a successful PR person. Everything is going great for her. That is until she realises she has a stalker. This stalker is following and watching her every move and when she starts to receive worrying messages and the threat takes a dangerous turn.
Cade is Keria’s neighbour. As a former SEAL and now a member of a private security team he knows how to protect someone from danger and after hearing Keria’s stalker issue he can’t help but want to protect her.
Using the team around him he tries to figure out and stop this stalker and protect Keria before it’s too late. But how do you stop someone who always seems to be one step ahead of you.

This is a suspenseful read which will keep you on the edge of your seat. The twists and turns meant I couldn’t put it down and as the spark grows between Keira and Cade it just added an extra element of danger as the risk of him losing the women he has feelings for makes the threat even more dangerous.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murder in a Gated Community by Laura Koerber. This is such a fun romp. I thought it might be kind of dull being about older people but it is such a fun read. These people are like overgrown teenagers. Its a community of older individuals that are able to take care of themselves. Its called Oaken Acres community and the people all have drama and problems. One woman is mad because the dog is barking across the street, one is plotting to kill someone just because she doesn’t like them and one has major drama with her ex husband who is abusive. Some have animals, some have family and there are a lot of lies, betrayal, politics and friendships. I caught myself laughing out loud several times. This is a short fun read that is more than a cozy mystery!

The Book of Hours (Coin/Hours Duology Book 2) Audiobook by Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra – Review by Maikalani Alexander

The book of hours is definitely an action packed story, twists and turns navigate the semblance of her life. Touching on her pain her heart feels stuck in a loveless marriage, rejected by the love of her life. Gabriella thrust herself into being her own heroine.

However, she can’t do it on her own. A blast from the past and love of her life Richard shows up once again securing her life and maybe her love?

If you like mystery, action, romance, thrillers, and unlocking secrets this is the book for you.

My only drawback was the reader. Sometimes it was hard to feel the emotion, follow along, and differentiate between the characters as who was speaking.
