This book had pulled at my heartstrings while reading to my kids. They loved seeing the different families, and as the wand was passed from family to family. My kids were ages 6 and 10 but they loved the book just the same. The message was sweet and heartfelt, and definitely should be a staple in every family. My family will be reading it as a bedtime routine from now on!

I have read several books by this author. I did enjoy this book and could connect with it. I am conflicted on how I would use it with the children that I work with. I feel like there wasn’t a clear resolution for the siblings that younger children can understand. This would be better for children that can infer decision making. Overall, it was a nice, relatable story.

If I Had a Magic Wand by Melissa Lavi is a very sweet children’s book. This book is very well-written. I wish I had this book when my children were babies. I found the story to be very uplifting. I read this with my autistic boys and they very much enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to parents and children alike.

Another great inspirational children’s book. This is the second book by this author that I have read and I am quite impressed. I really like how the book grabs the reader and inspires them. This book is definitely a great book for your children and I only wish mine were young enough for this. I will definitely be recommending this book to friends who have younger children or grandchildren.

I love Lois Wickstrom. Many books by this author have an educational component. This book about the daily conflicts between siblings might open the door to initiating conversations about problem solving and discussing appropriate solutions. The most important talking point might be to make sure everyone is  continuing to enjoy the game.

This was such a cute children’s book and one my little boy really enjoyed – he loves cats so I knew it would be a hit! The illustrations were great and really engaging. The storyline is really easy to follow and certainly gets children imaginations going as they try to think of how to rescue the kitten from the tree along with Caspian and his Grandpa.
This author has such a wonderful imagination and her creative stories definitely capture the interest of children and engage them well in her stories.

Such a beautifully inspirational and inclusive story. Shows the true heart of children and what can happen when adults get on board with the ideas of the children in their lives rather than dismissing them because they are young. The children are the future as the saying goes and they see things so clearly. Amaleigha is definitely one of those children with a beautiful heart and I would recommend this book for all parents to read with their little ones.

The illustrations in this book are fantastic. The book asks the question where do Pirates go on vacation and yet it is never really answered. It does lead to the reader discussing the possiblities of where but yet it doesn’t really answer the question. Great for getting the kids to interact with the book. And again the illustrations are fantastic. It truly does inspire interactions and imagination.

Amaleigha is a super sweet little girl who loves to visit the library and enjoys the many books that are available for her. She notices that other children, who don’t speak English, don’t have as many books available to them. So Amaleigha sets out to raise money to fix that and builds a little library so anyone has access to the books that they were able to get at any time. This was an incredibly sweet story that I was happy to share with my kiddos and we all thoroughly enjoyed. I really loved the directions on how to build your own little free library. I would absolutely recommend this book.

Where do pirates go on vacation? Or do they go at all? This is a very simple, easy to read, and incredibly illustrated children’s book. It was a fun, quick read before bedtime. My kiddos enjoyed having this book read to them, and guessing if pirates actually take vacations, as much as I enjoyed reading it.

This is an entertaining story about sibling rivalry. The illustrations are wonderfully done and show how close siblings argue with each other. I love how the author shows how Mira and Carl act like super enemies into the very end. The ending was definitely and so relatable with any siblings. Children will enjoy this story!

We’re new to this series, & this cute little book has made us want to read the rest. It’s short & sweet & inclusive! I read it to my 4 year old 1st, & when he asked to read it again as soon as we finished, my 5 year old caught interest & she loved it too. They had so much fun answering the questions with different silly answers! We can’t wait to read it again!

If I had a Magic Wand by Melissa Lavi was the cutest story! I read it to my two year old and while she may not have understood it, she engaged with the pictures and said words after me. I loved the message and how the wand was passed to each adult. It was a sweet story about what we as parents or caretakers want for our babies. The fact that each picture was so diverse and shows how connected we are as parents and how our babies are our magic. This will be a beautiful story to read again and again to my kids!

Amaleigha is a five year old girl who sees the world in a different way. She enjoys the little things in life, all the way down to the grass between her toes or the insects on the ground. She is very observant and enjoys the forrest and all there is to see, smell, hear and touch. She loves it so much that she wants the whole world to be able to experience it with her. Then she gets an idea, and with her families support, she makes her idea a reality.
This is such a neat story and it teaches kids to dream big, believe in themselves and with hard work they can make a big difference.

  • This is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that includes people of diverse skin tones to provide characters that are animating a wonderful nursery rhyme. This would make a great gift for a new parent or a child who is just learning to read. I have already read this book several times since it is a short book. I really enjoy that this book is still charming despite its size.

The premise of this book is Caspian has to find a way to get a Frisbee out of a tree and while doing that (by putting on his Hot Chocolate Socks that his Grandpa gave him for his Unbirthday) he finds a kitten in the tree that continues to put itself in dangerous situations. Caspian follows the kitten to keep it out of trouble but in a startling turn of events, the kitten hops on the Frisbee and flies away. I understand the general concept of teaching children to problem-solve and use their imagination; however, this book takes too many leaps and bounds. I read this to my 6-year- old and they didn’t enjoy it as much as Wickstrom’s other books. I like the premise of the book, I just think that the events happen to fast or suddenly for them to make any sort of “sense” for the reader.

Another lovely children’s story that is filled with rhymes and illustrations about pirates. I loved it. While I have never considered where pirates go on vacation this book did make me think about that. The kids were fascinated with the illustrations. In fact, they would not allow me to turn the page until they had inspected and critiqued every single item. They were trying to name all the items in the treasure chest which I found to be so much fun and entertaining. This is a wonderful book. I highly recommend it for your kids, gift giving and even donating to your kid’s school library.

Mira and Carl are siblings. They disagree on EVERYTHING unless it’s about their dad. They want to do everything together with their dad. They are always arguing who’s better at what in everything. The kids go to the beach with their dad, Carl keeps having to rebuild his sand castle, because of course Mira destroys them all. Carl finally builds the best sand castle that can’t be destroyed, it’s time to go home and they are ready to start over again tomorrow.<br />This was an absolute adorable read especially for kids that have siblings because everything is so true!
