Excellent book to teach children all the responsibilities that come with owning a dog. I forgot myself, how much really goes into owning a dog, so there are some good points to think about and learn about taught in this book. I really like that the author has the children researching everything on their own, giving them a feel of the responsibility they will have to take on when it comes to owning a dog. The note to the parents at the end helps with offering tips and extra knowledge for adults to share with children.

This was a really cute children’s book. It asks questions about different aspects of mermaids were real like: what would they look like?; would they have different types of tails?; or if they would come in many sizes? Etc. The illustrations are cute and colorful, too. This is also a decent size children’s book. The best part about this book, however, is that on each page after a question is posed the author provides a fun fact about a mermaid (or legend of a mermaid) or another type of fact about the sea. I think this makes the learning process fun to read about different aspects but in a mythical creature that children love. I would recommend this book to other parents and children who love to learn about ocean life.

I love how it teaches children how important it is to care for our animals and all the Responsibilities that go along with it. This is the perfect book for teaching children in a fun way how to care for animals. The colorful illustrations help bring the story to life. We highly recommend reading this book and look forward to reading more from this Author.

This story is beautifully written and introduces young children to the cultural celebration of Chinese Lunar New Year. The different aspects and traditions are incorporated in a way that explains their significance and detail to the reader without sounding like a documentary! The family at the centre combine the traditions with their modern lives which makes it even more relatable. A great resource for any library, classroom or family bookshelf!

This is a great book for kids ages 7 to 12. I had my 12 year old granddaughter read this to me, and just hearing her read this book about the different culture was great. She really enjoyed the book also. The illustrations were phenomenal, and the writing was great. In this book, we learn about the Lunar New Year and two Asian American sisters going throughout this special day. It’s tradition to visit family and friends and receive red envelopes containing money and chocolates. The red envelopes are misplaced, so they retrace their steps to find them. Great story, and I absolutely love that the big sister doesn’t get mad and is very patient with the little sister. It’s such a cute little book.

I have never heard the term “armadillo bugs” before reading this book! Even adults can learn more about insects, specifically fireflies, in this informative story. Spend some time with Loretta in her garden and you’ll learn about the life cycle of what I’ve always termed “lightening bugs” or fireflies.
This is another great addition to any personal or school library. There are STEM features of this book, which is a favorite aspect I have of this author. Be sure to check out her other books as well!

This is a very easy and descriptive read. I can see all the details in the book about what is going on. The illustrations are very well done. The illustrations and where they are in the book coincide together. I love how the sisters get along and how the older sister helps out the little sister. Overall, I would recommend this book for children who want to learn about a different culture and how important families are.
This book is a great addition to the series and a brilliant way to teach kids how to correctly care for their pets. We are at that point in our family where we frequently get the question of “when are we getting a pet?” and this book is a brilliant first step in teaching our kids the responsibility involved with it. Beyond the teaching moments, the book is fun and engaging. Children can easily connect with the story and illustrations that bring it to life. We enjoyed reading this book and going on the journey with the characters. We would definitely recommend this book to any family.

This is another great installment in the Porter and Midge series about teaching kids the responsibilities of pet ownership. While Porter and Midge are dogs, the lessons learned in the book can be applied to any pet looking to be adopted. I love the way Chen and Nevada use rhythm and rhyme to get the kids involved as well as teaching them very important lessons about not only pet ownership, but also communication with parents and respect between parents and children. The Hidden Present is part of the Invisible Magic Wand series, My grandkids really enjoy reading of Caspian’s adventures. This being book number eight they were excited to see what Caspian and Grandpa were up to. It is time for Caspian’s Un-Birthday again, but this time something is different, his present from Grandpa is not in his usually spot and now he will have to search for it. As with the others this book has very colorful illustrations, full of fun, adventure all good for the imagination with some nice little lessons also. I think kids 3-6 will enjoy this book.
The Hidden Present is part of the Invisible Magic Wand collection/series. They are all independent stories about Caspian and his Grandpa. Caspian always gets special gifts for his un-birthday from his grandpa. But this year, it wasn’t just left out in the open, he had to go on a bit of a scavenger hunt to find it. My 7 year old son read it to me, and it is a fun story. We both enjoyed it, and look forward to more books from the author and illustrator.
A Fun way to learn about the responsibility of pet ownership. Lora and CJ are great role models for kids who want the responsibility of getting a pet. This book is an excellent resource for kids to read before actually getting their pet.
It takes you through everything you need to know and what puppies/dogs will need to have a healthy and fulfilling life with your family. The best part is that while it is so informative it is also fun for kids to read.

This was a cute kids book that provided a great storyline about the Lunar New Year and the adventure a set of two sisters ends up on. I enjoyed the story about the red envelopes and their significance and then why it was such a problem when they went missing. There were so many great cultural references that would be a wonderful learning experience for the reader. This book would be ideal for young readers ages 7-12. The Missing Red Envelopes was a lighthearted and engaging read. It also featured some great illustrations. Well done Yobe Qiu, this was a well written children’s book.
I have read a few books to my niece from this amazing author. This is the eighth book for one of her favorite series, the Invisible Magic Wand. These books need to be read in order so you get the whole story line. I can’t wait to read more from her.
It is Caspian’s unbirthday once again and his grandpa sends him on another mission. Caspian loves finding his unbirthday present but this time he only finds an inquisitive indicator. I have read a few books from this author to my niece and we love them. These stories are so fun to read but they are also educational. I like how the pictures go perfectly with the story as well. I can wait to read another book with my niece from this amazing author.
Loretta goes to make herself a flower garden but she finds these bugs that glow. She takes them home with her and she watches them. They are some that glow when they fly and some don’t fly. Will she find out the real truth of these cool little bugs?
Lorie and Weina are looking forward to celebrating the Lunar New Year and all it has to offer, but their favorite parts are the red envelopes they receive from family. In a twist they didn’t expect, in the course of shopping for the perfect gift that day, they’ve misplaced the prized envelopes! The sisters retrace their steps through the day to find them. Along the way, they teach us a bit about the excitement of Lunar New Year, asian customs, culture, foods and traditions.
A fun read with lots to learn along with an incredibly charming and well written story. Recommend!

The Hidden Present is book eight in the Invisible Magic Wand Series. What a super fun adventure Caspian takes us on to figure out where his unpresent is at. The illustrations are colorful and bring the story to life. My son loved it and was being an investigator trying to help find clues. I live this age l, their imagination is running wild and I love it. With the help of the inquisitive indicator Caspian finds his way to his grandfather. Will he find the hidden present? Where could it possibly be? My almost six year loves this author and we look forward to new adventures. We highly recommend reading this book and look forward to reading more from this Author.
C.J. and his sister Lora decide that they want a puppy. When they asked their parents they were told that having a dog carried a lot of responsibility. They asked them to research what it means to be a dog owner and then come back and they would discuss it.
I liked this book because I have seen so many people buy their children a pet and then when the newness wears off the dog is left in the yard and ignored. This book will teach children what it takes and then they will know going into it what they need to do.
I have grandchildren and I think they would enjoy this book.

I thought this was great for children and makes you think about all the steps in taking care of animals dogs. It takes everything into consideration and would be a great interactive book for kids. Well done.

This was a cute read for kids wanting to learn more about other cultures. It had a good storyline and sprinkled in many facts about the lunar new year. It also had a great lesson in kindness, with the older sister learning to give grace to the younger sister, and the fact that they were saving up their own money to buy something for another family member. This adorable children’s book is delightful! The story is told in rhythmic rhyming poetry form which makes the story flow much faster. I’m an absolute dog fan so I enjoyed seeing the characters learn about being a responsible dog parent and what it takes to give them the best life possible.
The characters, CJ & Lora took an in depth approach to learning about dogs proving that they took the suggestions from their parents seriously.
Overall the book was fantastic and I think kids will enjoy it and parents will like reading it. It includes some great illustrations and lessons for all to learn.

This is a very informational and helpful book for a family that is looking to add a furbaby. In this story, Lora and CJ have decided they’d like to each have a dog. Their parents have wisely advised the children that they need to research everything possible about pet care to demonstrate the knowledge necessary to be a great pet parent. CJ and Lora learn all about proper vet care, exercise, food, and more and present their findings to their parents who agree to allow them to have a new pet.
Any family with small children looking to add a new furbaby should be required to read this book! It’s a great tool for youngsters to create a goal list from and to demonstrate their learned knowledge before the family commits to such a huge undertaking of adding to their family.
