I picked up this book expecting it to be a great book to share with the kids. I didn’t expect it would be one I connected with so much as a parent. Since my daughter has started school, the idea of ‘differences’ is a topic that has become prevalent in our house and this book really seemed to touch on that more. Seeing Luna and her struggles was so touching and emotional. I think this is the first children’s book that I had enjoyed the most. The illustrations in the book were beautiful and really caught my kids attention. They loved they story and learning more about Luna. She is the kind of character that they enjoy reading about. This is a fantastic story and is easily one of the best children’s stories we have read this year.

This is a super cute book that I love for my kiddos. The illustrations are engaging and colorful, but not overwhelming and, as said in the title, the affirmations are quick. Short little mantras for little people to remind them they are special, important, kind… all of the wonderful things that young children are! I read this for myself to make sure it was something I wanted to invest in, and not only do I want a copy for my own kids, this is definitely something I’ll be sending my nieces and nephews to keep at their bedsides to wake up and read a positive message each day!

As an educator, I love how diverse (both human and animals) and fun the illustrations are for each alphabet letter. I also enjoyed how the affirmations are bolded, making it easy to realize they are important, as well as listing multiple affirmations for each letter.
The affirmations cover a range of positive themes, including self-love, confidence, gratitude, and resilience. By incorporating these affirmations into their daily lives, children are encouraged to develop a positive mindset and embrace their unique qualities and strengths. Sometimes we need to be reminded of positive things to say or think about ourselves or others. While this is a children’s book, I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult.
This book would make a great teaching tool, not only to add more positivity into a child’s life, but also to teach them the alphabet, colors, different ethnicities, etc. There were several golden nuggets in this short read.
The illustrations are also extremely well done! The colors are vibrant, the pictures are relevant and engaging, as well as inclusive of different age groups and ethnicities.

Great kids book. This book sparks imagination, creativity and teamwork. Dylan wants to find out who stole Mrs. Lane’s mail and doesn’t really want his younger sister Emily tagging along. Surprising to him, Emily has a great idea, and one that helps Dylan solve the case. I love the images interspersed through the book to give the child reading a picture of what is happening, it really helped in my mind as well to picture the whole scenario.

What a cool book! I wish they had books like this when I was littler or even when my kids where smaller. Just the bite size affirmations such as “I am focused on my day!” can make a difference to a child’s outlook. These affirmations are full of life, hope, and joy. It makes you smile reading them. The pages illustrations are bright and colorful. They jump out at you and just bring life and happiness. This will be a great gift for my grandchildren.

Oh, how I love this author! She brings to her stories the fact that being special is okay. We have Nemo, the cat who quietly meows, and Luna, who just can’t get her howl on. These two become best buddies. Can’t give too much away. You need to read this story. They are always so beautiful and heartwarming. The love of friendship and family will bring out just what Luna needs. A story that will be add to my collection to be with Jake the Growly Dog. Well done! I love Luna and Nemo!

I love the Caspian unbirthday series. This book was so imaginative with baking a bicycle by molding the dough into parts and then of course it wouldn’t be a grandpa unbirthday present without a little magic. I love the art in this book, the vibrant colors and creativity.

Adorable! It was sweet reading about mama warbler and her chicks. The cuckoo baby made me mad trying to steal food but I guess I understand since it was a bigger bird. I was happy to see the timid bird and mama able to finally bond. Lovely artwork.
Great concept. I was excited based on the colors of the cover but was sad to see the inside is black and white. While that is also appealing, color usually catches children’s eyes. I do alway love the end of Lois Wickstrom books because, there is always a scientific lesson to be learned or something to teach, and in this case we get to learn about waterspouts. I think this book also gets kids interested in what trout would taste like.

Not only is the book beautiful it is very helpful for adult and kid alike. Giving yourself daily affirmations is good for the should, young and old. The art in this book is absolutely beautiful. I can’t say enough how visually this book caught my eye, with the colors, style and the characters. Luna is a sweet husky who can’t howl and is kind of isolated from the other huskies at the home. Luna meets a cat that can’t meow and they become best of friends. Love can conquer all, including helping a young husky find her howl. I love that this book shows Luna getting adopted even being different. The extra fun pages at the end for kids makes this book so much better.

This book is great for kids with anxiety, and to some extent even for those dealing with bullying and misinformation. Mama Warbler is waiting for her last baby to hatch. Sadly, the cuckoo that was the first egg in the nest to hatch is being selfish and is telling the last baby warbler that the outside world is no fun and is scary. The baby warbler doesn’t want to hatch because it’s afraid. The baby cuckoo is only thinking of himself. What a cute book explaining the phenomena that can really happen – a tornado can form over a body of water and suck up whatever is in its way and then rain it out later. Raining Fish and Frogs by Lois Wickstrom is a cute children’s story that has an interesting storyline, sweet illustrations, some adventure, a touch of drama, and even a science lesson at the back of the book. This cute story is engaging and fun- and the illustrations are interesting and cute. I just wish they had been in colour instead of black and white, as the cover of the book really draws the eye with all the ‘fun’ colours’ and interesting detail. While the inside illustrations are of high quality, I feel that they lack the impact and interest that coloured illustrations would offer. I feel that colour offers so much in the way of capturing the imagination, as well as keeping little minds focused on the ‘adventure’. But a charming read none-the-less. Happy reading!

This story was adorable. There was the obvious kids working as detectives, but it also had so much more. You siblings working together, interaction with thier community, thinking outside the traditional and others. I also really appreciated the interactive section that was included for teachers to use with thier students I thought that was a really nice touch!

I loved this book. What a fun way to teach about the random way that tornados/waterspouts can send frogs, etc. flying. I grew up hearing about this and often wondered how this could happen. Now, at 58, I know how, crazy. My grandson is now fascinated with this and wants to explore it more. I love the book set up. The name of the lake is funny and made us laugh during story time. If you want to know what it was, you have to read the book, I’m not telling. This author makes learning so much fun. She’s really made learning with my grandson enjoyable and brought many giggles with this new knowledge.

Raining Fish and Frogs is a fun 26-page story with bright and colourful illustrations by Janet King. The pictures bring Lois’s words to life and children as well as adults will enjoy. Lois’s stories have messages within, and we get to share these with our children or grandchildren or those that we love. This book is aimed for kids ages 4-8 years of age. It is nice to sit with them and watch as the gears turn, and their imaginations run wild. It’s not your usual storm. What happens when the weather changes and instead of rain other things fall from the sky. To find out you will need to grab a copy and find out. An excellent book to enjoy on a rainy day and a perfect gift if you need one.

Raining Fish and Frogs was a fun story that can be enjoyed by the young and young at heart. My great nieces and I love Lois’ books and always look forward to what she has in store next.
Creative story-line with engaging illustrations what can possibly happen while fishing the wind picks up and sucks all the water out of the lake? Can you imagine Raining Fish and Frogs!!

Kneading a Winning Idea is a children’s book that helps teach about being brave,facing our fear, perseverance, practice , problem solving and never giving up. We follow Ben as he learns through dedication and hard work that anything is possible and that it’s ok to fail because that makes us try harder next time. My five year old son loved this book and we look forward to reading more from this Author. I’d highly recommend this book to children ages birth to eight. It’s a good lesson and helps to build their foundation.
