Afflicted Love (Rhythm & Heart Series) by Autumn Sand – Review by Kimberly Filer

Afflicted LoveAfflicted Love by Autumn Sand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A story for the ages that leaves you wanting more, (total cliffhanger). The main characters Lyle and Kyle struggle with grasping the hurt they have both endured. Lyle’s past keeps him from giving 100% of himself to Kyle, he’s broken and it tears at your heartstrings. The constant back and forth of these two character’s gets to your soul. In a fictional MM romance, these characters struggle to come to terms with who they are. Lyle refuses to give into his true feelings and begins to destroy Kyle in the process. A can’t put down book which keeps you wanting to know if Lyle will finally give into his true feelings. It’s emotionally draining reading about these characters yet at the same time I couldn’t stop reading about them.

Non-Verbal by Molly Zenk – Review by Kimberly Filer

Non VerbalNon Verbal by Molly Zenk
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A wonderful book about a middle schooler with Autism. Emerson was born with the ability to talk and all of that disappeared around the age of 15 months which is common with those on the Autism spectrum. She is a fiery teenager with lots to say and no way to share her words, there for she shares them in behaviors which are less then wonderful. Emerson goes through the normal teen life trying to not only manage her non-verbal world but also all of those teenager challenges at the same time. A wonderful read.

What a great read. Had me hooked right from the start. I felt like I got sent right back to middle school and my pre teen years. Right from the start Noah is a character who sucks you in. This story had me on my toes throughout the entire story. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next to him. A great read for those pre-teens.

Cry Baby (Pierce Brothers Book 4) by Belinda Williams – Review by Kimberly Filer

Cry Baby: A Grump Sunshine Slow Burn Romantic Comedy (Pierce Brothers Book 4)Cry Baby: A Grump Sunshine Slow Burn Romantic Comedy by Belinda Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 4th book in the Pierce Brothers Series and brings us the story of Noah and Amy. Filled with such wonderful, relatable characters and storylines it’s a hard to put down book. Amy has a new job, being a nanny. She seems perfectly suited to it because she has a positive outlook on life, and the first meeting with baby Amelia proves she has a way with children. Noah is very different from Amelia. He is single and has no intention of settling down any time soon and is pretty cynical. The two characters have an instant spark, but their personalities clash at first. However, as they get to know each other better, they begin to fall for each other. The book is a slow-burn romance, which means that the relationship between the characters develops gradually over time. A great read.

No Pistol Tastes the SameNo Pistol Tastes the Same by Jacob Paul Patchen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A true account of what happens to individuals during war and when they return home. PTSD is so common, yet people fail to acknowledge those who suffer from it. It was heart retching reading some personal accounts at the beginning of the story from true solders who currently suffer from this mental health disorder. Raised as a little boy playing war on his grandparents’ property, he and his grandparents were very close as is he with his wife and child but that was then. When Seargent JP Grimm returns home from the war he is different, he couldn’t save them, and the baggage weighs heavy on him. He couldn’t shoot the bomber who resembled his young son the one he sees every time he closes his eyes. A truly riveting story of what some soldiers go through each and every day when they return home from war.
