After reading the first book, Next Door to a Star I was thrilled there was a sequel. Competing with a Star did not disappoint. It was full of teenage drama, love and confusion. Hadley and Nick’s relationship seems to be blooming well when Hadley shows her true naïve side. I did love how Nick was vulnerable with Hadley. All in all I liked the book, the drama and the realness of relationships these days.

This is a sweet story that deals with coming of age, and navigating all the tricky waters of adolescence. Hadley is a teenager who is starting to date for the first time, and although she seems to have found a great guy, it’s not without its challenges. Especially when your friends seem to be blocking the relationship at every turn. Like the first book in this series, Hadley is learning who her true friends really are, and how complex all relationships can be. Despite second-guessing herself a lot, she does manage to sift through her feelings and find a path that feels true to her.

If you liked Next Door to a Star, you’ll be right at home in the second book in this series. It took me back to the awkward days of high school, with all the feels and confusion and new experiences. Hager has a real gift for letting us remember how that time felt, in all its ups and downs.

This sweet YA Romance by Krysten Lindsay Hager, Competing with the Star is the second book in the series. As I said before Krysten is known for her YA romances and it is what she does best. It is full of drama and angst, insecurity and anxiety, jealousy, and high emotions makes life hard enough as a teenager but without confidence and trust self-doubt is a bad thing. Mean girls and bullies, lies and deceit, love, and betrayal and so much more will delight YA readers.

This book was such a great read. I couldn’t put it down once I started. The author did an excellent job portraying all the feelings and drama teenagers go through. I can definitely relate when I think back to my youth and also thinking about all things my kids have been through. Hadley is socially awkward so a lot of the things she’s experiencing with having new friends is all new for her and she isn’t sure how to navigate some of it. I was definitely rooting for her to make good choices when put in a situation that calls for her to do what’s right or not. This is a good book for all. I highly recommend this book.

Competing With The Star is the follow-up book to Next Door To The Star by Krysten Lindsay Hager. It is a sweet young adult romance that I really enjoyed (although I’m far from a young adult these days, lol). I had enjoyed Next Door To The Star but I must say that I enjoyed this book more than the first one.
Having moved next door to tv star Simone and becoming friends with her, Hadley is now struggling when she finds out that her boyfriend Nick used to be totally infatuated with Simone. She feels that she can’t compete with the beautiful former tv star. It’s her first ever boyfriend and she doesn’t know how to deal with it.
Added to the is the group of girls she now hangs around with. I mentioned in my review of the first book that every teenage girl should read the book. Well they should then follow it with this one. It’s such an accurate representation of how cliquey, bitchy and nasty teenage girls are, even when they are your friend, never mind them being your enemy.
I love Hadley’s character and see a lot of my teenage self in her. I never really felt that I fitted in with any group of girls and felt like an outsider at times. She’s a fantastic character that I’m sure a lot of teenage girls can relate to.
Another must read for all teenage girls.

I love YA books and this was no exception. I read it in one sitting I enjoyed it so much. Took me back to high school and first love that the world revolves around. Hadley is a down to earth teenager, that has a lot of doubt and insecurities that most of us experience as we mature and discover who we are and who we want to be. She has changed schools and went from having one good friend to finding a circle of friends she regularly hangs out with. But can she trust everyone in that circle? I enjoyed how Hadley struggles with finding who her true friends are and finding connections that were kind of a surprise. She is in love with Nick and I love how their story was sweet and innocent and didn’t just jump in to physical relations. I feel like a lot of high school stories now are all about drinking, drugs, and sex. It was a beautiful story that I would read again.

Competing with the Star by Krysten Lindsay Hagar a fab four-star read. This is number two in the Star series and its best to read them in order as they do follow on the story and build the characters. This will have you harking back to being a teenager if you aren’t one reading this story, if you are a teenager, it will be like reading your diary. Hadley will pull you as she faces her struggles, and they are struggles we all face at some point in life, it just so happens that Hadley’s seem to be happening just as she was getting it all together. I enjoyed this story, but it didn’t pull me like the first, it could be me as I am so crazy right now, so I am eagerly awaiting number three to see what will be happening next.

Next Door to a Star written by Krysten Lindsay Hager is a story of the coming of age in high school. It is a perfect tale of every unpopular girl’s desire to be seen. In fact, this could be my story. It is wonderfully written and was by far one of the best young adult books that I have read.

Hadley Daniels had never been the most popular girl in school. In fact, she struggled to find her place in her high school. She had one best friend, Lexi Irvin. It was the summer after freshman year, and Hadley’s life was about to change. Lexi was moving to Texas with her family. Since she had no other friends, after an invitation, Hadley decides to spend the summer in Grand Haven with her grandparents.

Next door to her grandparents lived Simone Hendrickson. Simone is a former actress from Hadley’s favorite show, Duncan’s Corner. Hadley has no intention of becoming Simone’s friend. She does want to see if she can make friends though.

Will Hadley make friends in Grand Haven? Will Simone welcome Hadley into her world? How will sophomore year be for Hadley? To find out, read this amazing book!

Competing With The Star: Sweet YA Romance by Krysten Lindsay Hager. This book can be read as a stand-alone as it is easy to engage with the characters.
This is an easy to read, sweet romance that is fairly quick to read. The characters are all pretty interesting, although I didn’t find Hadley to be quite frustrating at times.
The book for me had quite a slow pace, it was a slow build up leading you gently where it wanted to take you. This is one of those stories that is a great way to pass a lazy afternoon. You can get lost in the story and everything going on.
This was an enjoyable book a good follow up to the first one.

Morgan what a B***h these types of girls are try worst. I can see good and bad teenager here. All these guys are trying to find themselves Hadley is heads over heel for Nick but she so nervous about what other say. I feel for her. Competing with the Star (Star Series Book 2) by Krysten Lindsay Hager. This was such a fun young adult story. I loved the first book and this one is even better. This is the story of Hadley who is finally feeling like she has all that she has ever wanted, good friends, a super cute boyfriend and a little bit of confidence. Nick is her boyfriend and he’s the “perfect” guy to Hadley. He loves sports and just is an all around great guy. One of her great friends is Simone Henderson who is a TV Actress and Hadley loves her but when she starts hearing rumors of Simone and Nick messing around her whole worlds shifts. When the rumor is confirmed to be false Hadley is still in her head about it and is not sure how her relationships with both of them will be in the future. This is such a good young adult read about high school relationships!

Competing with the Star by Krysten Lindsay Hager is the second book in the series. This book is a continuation of the first one, which tells the story of Hadley- a young girl who is new to her town and school, and adjusts to fit in. Her next door neighbor is a TV star who is seemingly her friend, but as the story unfolds Hadley begins to wonder is she really her friend? Hadley experiences many ups and downs while settling into the next chapter of her life, and she learns who her friends are, and who is just pretending. This story was an excellent read that I would recommend for all ages. The plot is realistic and the characters are very easy to relate to, and many of them are extremely likable. I give this book. 5 stars and I’m anxious to read what’s coming next!

Competing with the Star is the first book I’ve read by this author and also the second book in the Star series. I would strongly suggest reading book 1 before reading book 2 as I had to piece things together as best as I could in order to truly enjoy this read. However, I did still enjoy this YA romance read.

I enjoyed how the author managed to create a solid group of friends, their interactions seemed really genuine and real to how they would behave at that age given the circumstances. I look forward to going back and reading book 1 to find out how everything started!

Krysten Lindsay Hagar brings Hadley to life with true insecurity and shallowness coming off the pages.

Hadley’s best friends moves before the end of her freshman year leaving her in low spirits and realizing that tying oneself to one friend is not ideal. Throw in a couple of mean girls and Hadley is jumping at the chance to go stay with her grandparents for the summer.

Once there she befriends the girl next door who just happens to be an ex Hollywood star. All of a sudden Hadley is hanging out with the popular crowd and even meets a boy that likes her. Pretty soon it all starts to fall apart. Mean, popular girls will always be mean popular girls.

Hagar brings the characters in her book to life with all the real emotions, insecurities, and feelings that all teenagers experience. I’m not sure, since Hager is a new author to me, if this is her first book or not. Some parts were a bit slow and there seemed to be parts that led nowhere, so I don’t know why they seemed to be in the book.

All in all this was a fun, YA read. While it didn’t sweep me away as some, I am excited to read the next installment in Hadley’s life.

Competing with the Star by Krysten Lindsay Hager is book two of The Star Series. You should read book one before reading this one to get a good background on the characters and how they got to where they are in book two.

This book has the drama! Hadley and Nick are together after all the drama in book one and have a real bond. Things start spiraling out of control when Hadley realizes Nick had a crush on her friend. Insecurity sets in and threatens to ruin everything. Will Hadley be able to trust Nick?

This book would definitely be suitable for young teenagers. It was well written and the characters are great. Insecurity in young girls is very relatable. I think Hadley didn’t give Nick enough credit but I can see where it would be difficult too. I enjoyed the book!

We continue with Hadley’s story, she is now living in Grand Haven. She is seeing NIck, but of course that doesn’t come without issues. His ex girlfriend is causing issues among other girls trying to cause drama. Being her first relationship she struggles with this. Nick is great with Hadley.

Overall this was a good read, we get all the high school mean girl drama. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. I struggled with the girls that Hadley called friends, since some of them seemed to have hidden agendas. But of course that’s high school drama of course. The author does a great job with her writing and pulls you right in. If you’re looking for a great YA series to read 1-click and get started today.

Competing With the Star is the second book in the Star series by Krysten Lindsay Hager. It follows on from the first book, Next Door to a Star- so I recommend reading that book before starting on this one. It will give you all the background information, character introductions, and other important information which will enhance your reading experience of this book.
Something Ms. Hager does well is write from a teenage perspective- delving into all the issues, drama, and angst that plague our teenage years. But her story is also full of emotion, young love, heartache, jealousy, betrayal, assumptions, insecurities, rumours, and friendship- giving us a window into high school life.
Hadley Daniels ‘perfect’ life is about to get a bit of a shake-up…. Life in Grand Haven seemed to be the answer to all her prayers- so what could possibly go wrong? Dive in to find out.

Lindsay Hager has done it again. I loved the first book in the Star Series, and “Competing with the Star” is even better. This book is great for young teenage girls who are looking to find their place in the world of high school. The characters are well developed and their stories are those that you could find in any high school in America.

Starting her sophomore year, Hadley finally feels like she has everything she ever wanted – a good group of friends and a boyfriend. Hadley had always felt ugly and belittled in school up until this year. Now, one of her best friends was a TV actress, Simone Henderson. And her boyfriend is well…perfect. Nick likes baseball and basketball which she does as well, and she can just be herself without all the pretending that other girls do.

Then, Hadley overhears a conversation in the bathroom about Simone and Nick. Her worst fears have reared an ugly head. Only nothing has really happened except now she doesn’t know what to feel. Should she feel betrayed, jealous, and feel lucky that she’s Nick’s girlfriend and not Simone.
Can Hadley come to terms with her own feelings? And how will things be with her and Nick after a misunderstanding involving Simone?

And I’m still hooked! Krysten did such a great job telling Hadley’s story and relating it to the high school relationships that I remember. It is so difficult when growing up to truly understand who your real friends are, who can be trusted, and when people are manipulating you. Hadley has to deal with a former TV star and her clique without ever knowing if any of them are truly friends. Her boyfriend Nick seems like the perfect first boyfriend for any high school girl. Jealousy and doubt are constantly on her mind and at times it seems that her worst fears are coming true. This was a great continuation of the series. I loved seeing the changes that are taking place within the girl group and watching Hadley grow more comfortable with herself and her new home. I look forward to continuing this series and seeing where everyone ends up. Keep ’em comin, Krysten!

I really enjoyed this book; it was a nice contemporary romance read. I haven’t read anything by this author previously and I liked her writing style, it was easy to read and the flow was good. One thing I really liked was how much emotion the author put into the story, I found it made the characters really relatable and that definitely makes a story more enjoyable for me. Hadley was a lovely character, very sweet and a little naïve. I loved the relationship between Nick and his grandfather, it definitely provoked some memories from me about relationships with my grandparents at that age.
Overall a lovely read and an author who I would definitely like to read more from again in the future.

I enjoyed this young adult sweet romance story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her yet. This is a well written story about a young adult teen who moves to a new town and finds herself falling for the boyfriend of her dreams. What will happen when she finds out that her boyfriend once had a crush on her friend? This is where the drama starts in full force. What happens next you will want to find out. Hadley is a great character even with her insecurity. She and the others are connectable and gave the story life. You don’t want to miss what happens with Hadley and the drama that is created by insecurities. This is a great young adult story that I would highly recommend.

When I started reading this book it really brought me back to my high school days. All the girl drama and gossip that this group of high school sophomores dished out made this book a page turner. Hadley, who thought her life was doomed for disaster, took a leap of faith and spent the summer with her grandparents. Having a fresh start to her, even if it was only the summer, was better than sitting home missing her best friend who moved away. If you are looking for a book that reminds you of all that high school drama you miss……. this is your book!!

This book was a 4 star read for me, it took me a little bit to get into the story. I had a hard time connecting with Hadley at first. I felt like Hadley was portrayed more immature for her age group at times. After Hadley’s best friend moves away she gets bullied even more. Excited to be going to her grandparents for the summer she’s looking forward to getting to know her grandparents’ neighbor, Simone.

Hadley encounters up and down moments with Simone. She also meets Charlotte, a nice young lady that enjoys spending time with her. And she also meets Nick who she hits it off with at first, then there is a twist with him.

Overall this is a good read that touches on many young adult issues. All of the characters added a great element to the story. We get teenage drama, romance, bullying and so much more. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.

Next Door to a Star was definitely an interesting read to say the least. Ms. Hager created a well developed young teen character so much so that I had to remember that the book was written by an adult. In the beginning of the book I found the character to be very hard to like but that just mean that I got to enjoy her development that much more. Young girls go through so many phases in their teenage years and Ms. Hager captured them all perfectly. The other characters were also written perfectly, basically made me feel like I was back in high school. There was a lot of emotion and parts in this book including young teens developing, sweet and innocent first kisses, the romance was the perfect level for kids that age, great friendship dynamics, and a great entertainment feel. If your looking for a great summer read I highly recommend Next Door to a Star.

Krysten Lyndsay Hager has done it again. I absolutely loved this book. It is a young adult book about Hadley who is having a hard transition as her only friend has moved and has left her as an afterthought. She has decided to spend the summer with her grandparents where she meets new friends and the usual end of middle school into high school drama begins. Her grandparents live next door to a once tv star that is the same age as Hadley and they become friends and that where drama begins because she is not cool enough for the stars friends and they become jealous of her. It was such a well written book and I cannot wait to see what is in store for Hadley and her new friends.

Next Door To A Star is a great Young Adult novel from Krysten Lindsay Hager. I had previously read the first 2 Cecily Taylor books by this author so knew that she writes a great young adult novel. I will say that I prefer the Cecily Taylor books but I did really enjoy Next Door To A Star.
In my opinion every teenage girl should have to read this book. It’s an amazingly accurate interpretation of how teenage girls treat one another. If you are not one of the elite ‘it’ girls then life can be extremely difficult. Teenage girls can be extremely bitchy and scathing and the author does a fantastic job of showing this in this book.
I really enjoyed reading Hadley’s story. She’s never been one of the ‘in crowd’ and has always wanted to be but once she gets in there she realises that the bitchiness and infighting doesn’t end. In fact it can be even worse. I actually found it hard at times to read this book, seeing just how horrible teenage girls can be to one another but it’s so true to life.
A definite must read for every teenage girl.

A book to add up there with classic YA books. Hadley is a young teen dealing with issues many of us are familiar with: loss of childhood friends; loyalty of friends; moving schools; having relationships and finding your confidence. This was a wonderful book. Hadley’s makes friends with Simone, a tv star, who lives next door to her grandparents. Hadley learns that even stars like Simone are human and dealing with problems too. Hadley deals with a lot of issues like gossip and backstabbing by girls such as Morgan, Pilar and Reagan with class and dignity. Even with all the drama, Hadley struggles but tries to make good choices and owns up if she doesn’t. I do have to say that I did identify with her grandma. I’m grandma to two sweet baby girls and I will probably be the same way. The characters were well written. You could feel Nick’s apology for believing Morgan and Reagan. I rooted for Hadley to forgive him. The plot took me back to my teen days, that is how well that was done. Whether the 1950’s or 2021, the issues just don’t change. Very realistic.

Next Door to a Star by Krysten Lindsay Hager is what she is known for and this sweet YA romance will delight YA readers. It is a quick read full of drama and angst, insecurity and anxiety on the road to finding yourself. Everything at this age is based on emotions that are much more harsh and dramatic and when bullies are relentless. The story is well written and the flows nicely and YA readers will enjoy.

Our MC is left wondering just where she now fits into life without her bestie by her side.
