I’m a baker and an avid romance reader. Total sucker for a cute romance story. Having lost a parent to cancer and knowing the struggles of carrying on a legacy I get what Elle was when she was just going through the motions of each day. The cute baking references mixed in with the magic of NYC almost gave me a Disney’s Enchanted vibe. If you need a cute and feel-good book to read on a trip or a beach day I highly recommend it. There are some dark spots in the book that I feel I should mention, if loss or taking care of a sick loved one is a trigger id proceed with caution, however, it’s an adorable book.

This fun rom-com did remind me a little bit of you have got mail. Elle, the heroine, runs her late mother’s bakery and then a handsome hot rich dude opens up a cake shop next door. She is conflicted to him and is suspicious of him, but she falls for him nevertheless. Then there is a mystery of a stealth of a recipe and certain other ridiculous events which cause her to suspect him more. Slowly the mystery unfolds and all well, that ends well. A hilarious sweet rom com with a mystery twist to it. I enjoyed this book.

Flirting with my Enemy: A Sweet Romantic Comedy (Love is a Mystery Book 1) by Laura Burton

This is the first book I’ve read by Burton. I loved every minute of reading this. This short, funny, page-turning story will have you hanging on the edge of your seat.

Elle believes that her next door neighbor is trying to sabotage her company. Moving a big name brand cupcake store next to hers is bad news. Then she comes up with a plan that shouldnt have her falling for him. The quote I chose for Elle is: “Everyone has an angle, Zane. I’m curious to know why you want to get to know me. I’m the enemy after all.”

Zane is trying to get to know Elle. Only she thinks he’s out for her business. He’s wanting to merge their businesses for the both of them. The quote I chose for Zane is: “Annie and I were together for many years, and I thought she broke my heart. I thought I could never get over her. But it turns out she’s nothing but a ghost in my head. Seeing her the other night made me see the light.”

Highly recommended for Clean Romance lovers.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Flirting with my Enemy was a cute, though predictable, romantic comedy book by Laura Burton. It was a bit cheesy at times, but I enjoyed it, and will likely read the next book in the series. The book follows Elle and Zane, who own bakeries next door to each other. Zane is rich and British, and trying to buy Elle’s bakery. Elle is not sure if he is sincere in his offerings, or try to sabotage her and run her out of business. She is struggling between love and hate, and it is a very fine line. He is quite the charmer, but she isn’t sure if she can trust him. Elle is a bit of a hot mess, but her character is sweet. The flirting with the enemy portion of the book was entertaining, and it had a twist ending. I did not see that coming, but it was a good twist. The ending was a bit over the top, but perfect, considering what we had seen of Zane. Overall, it was an enjoyable book.

Sweet treats and romance is the perfect ingredients in this book by Laura Burton. Flirting with my Enemy is a clean fun read that leaves you wanting more.

This story follows Ella and Zane, two rival bakery owners, one on a completely different financial level though. Zane is rich, and has his sights set on taking over Elle’s bakery. Elle does not plan to give in with out a fight though, as her bakery used to belong to her mother, and she has no intention of giving it up.

While both characters are very different, it is fun to watch them grow, and fall in love. As we all know though, just because we are in love doesn’t mean happy ever after. Can Elle and Zane get past their differences?

This was a quick, fun read that I couldn’t put down. Laura Burton is another new author that I can’t wait to to read again.

Flirting With My Enemy is the first book in the Love Is A Mystery series by Laura Burton. I had not read any of Laura Burton’s writing before reading this book and I’m happy to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading Flirting With My Enemy.
Flirting With The Enemy is the story of cake shop owner Elle Brook and CEO of Got Cake Zane Masters who open up next door to her little cake shop. This is a great enemies to lovers romance with great characters that I really enjoyed reading. I loved the interactions between Elle and Zane as they tried to fight of the attraction that they both have for each other while trying to out-do each other with their businesses.
Added to the romance there is also a mystery element to the book which helps keep the story flowing well and keeps the reader engaged in the storyline, waiting to find out who is behind the strange happenings.
There is also a sad, serious element of the book that is very poignant and Laura Burton does a fantastic job of handling this issue.
Definitely recommend Flirting With The Enemy.

Flirting With My Enemy: A Sweet Romantic Comedy is the first book in the Love Is A Mystery series by Laura Burton. This story is exactly what the title says- a sweet, fun, romantic comedy. I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers story and following Elle and Zane as the sparks flew. The story has plenty of chemistry, but this is definitely a ‘clean’ romance as the characters don’t engage in anything more than some passionate kisses. The storyline is quite fun- and I enjoyed the dynamic between Elle and Zane- there were more than a few laughs to be had here- as well as a little mystery- but Ms. Burton doesn’t skimp on the emotion in story either- as there was plenty of ‘feels’ too.
This is my favourite of her books that I have read, so far. And it is a fantastic start to a new series. I am really looking forward to reading “Married My Boss” (Book #2).
Happy reading!

Thank you, Laura Burton!

Flirting with my enemy is funny, witty and definitely entertaining. Elle is an Asian Baker who took over her moms bakery after she died. She’s dealing with sabotage and a corporate bakery next door, whose owner Zane is sexy, charming and wants to buy her bakery. They bump into each other everywhere, and she believes Zane is the culprit. I loved this book and can’t wait to read the next book.

Can you imagine following in the footsteps of a parent when you are their polar opposite? Flirting With My Enemy by Laura Burton introduces Elle Brook’s narrative as she attempts to make her deceased mother’s bakery successful. She has fierce competition when a Got Cake, a corporate competitor, is built next door. The day that Elle is going to release a brand-new type of cupcake, she finds that her entire store smells like rotting fish. Her “grandmother” Joyce signed for four boxes, and they are filled with trout. She is mortified, knowing that a prominent magazine reporter has arrived to do a story on Elle’s store. Elle intercepts the reporter outside to prevent her from going inside, only to have Zane Masters steal away the interview. Zane is a billionaire and owner of Got Cake. Elle is certain he has tried to sabotage her store and plans to get even with him. Her friend Connie joins her plan to seduce Zane and destroy his reputation. Little does Elle know, Zane has an ulterior motive for her as well. Did Zane sabotage Elle?

I like the development of each individual character and the emotions that Laura Burton made easy to read. This is a quick story despite being 18 chapters long. The titles of the chapters give a predictive idea of what Elle is going to face. Zane is a very sincere and emotional character, and I could easily envision being unable to resist his charm. The supporting characters are integral parts that had a large purpose to the overall story. Flirting With My Enemy is the first of a series, and I look forward to reading more of Burtons’s work in the future

Cute Rom-Com
This was an easy quick-read, romantic comedy that had several laugh-out-loud moments. The characters were relatable and the story had a good flow. The romance was clean and very little fuss. It does have a ‘You’ve got mail’ vibe but with its own little twists. A nice escape story that can easily be read in an afternoon.

Flirting with my Enemy is a sugar-sweet romance with a dash of mystery. Zane cuts a dashing profile, with his good looks, billionaire bank account, and British accent and manners. Elle is determined to catch him sabotaging her business, but without a malicious bone in her body, she isn’t too great at playing the conniving seductress. The book keeps up the suspense of whether Zane is the saboteur or storybrook prince in Elle Brook’s fairy tale.

I liked that Burton was able to deliver some seriously sultry vibes whilst keeping everyone’s clothes on. This Romcom definitely had its share of “meet cutes” and misunderstandings that are typical to the genre. Definitely a feel-good cozy book to curl up with.

Elle has been running her mother’s bakery since she passed away. Zane moves in next door and starts making overtures to buy Elle’s. Oh my goodness, this means war. This story will tickle your funny bone while also having parts that will touch your heart. Joyce has been with Elle since she was a kid, working in the bakery. She has always been a Mother at heart. Elle must deal with Joyce’s dementia as well as mystery deliveries, Zane’s hijinks and wanting to date her. Connie, her BFF, tells her to just do what her heart tells her. Elle has to learn to not be such a control freak. That’s what makes the story so enjoyable to me. From one control freak to another, it’s always funny to watch them learn to grow. The story has humor, romance, friendship, business rivalries and nosy reporters, not to mention more to keep you enthralled. The author wrote fantastic characters. Zane is one of those guys that he takes the licking and still stays because he knows its not personal. He’s what we all want. Elle is totally someone we can empathies with. The reference to Jane Eyre certainly doesn’t hurt. Wonderful story. Highly recommend to all.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I liked the fact that she created a great sweet romance without relying on the usual aspects. She kept it clean but also created a story that is interesting to read. I love stories that are a little dirtier but I can appreciate the writing in a book like this. This is a new author to me, but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading her work. This is a very funny book and I laughed out loud on several occasions while reading it. She did a great job with the story and keeping me guessing how some of the squabbles between the characters would end. In fact, there were sometimes I laughed and then other times I cried, but then other times I was angry that they were arguing over the petty things that they were. However, their pettiness created a recipe for disaster with a cherry on top. It was perfect and everything I love in romance and more.

This is a the first time reading anything by this author. I must say it was a cute little romance.
Elle runs a bakery that was left to her by her mother. In steps Zane, who coincidentally, opened a bakery right next door to her, and wants to partner up. Elle is conflicted and doesn’t know what she should do. She doesn’t want to fall for the enemy but little by little she is falling for him. And still on the fence of partnering together, until her “grandmother” has an accident and she has to do what’s best for her while taking care of her.
This was a cute enemies to lovers story, with a little cheesiness, but that is what the main character likes …. cheezy!!

Flirting with the Enemy was a sweet story. I did have a lot of questions as I was reading since it really jumped in right at the start. I was glad that they were able to be answered as the story went on. I loved Zane’s character! Elle was a good character but I had difficulty at times connecting with her. She frustrated me because her train of thinking was all over the place at times and I just had a hard time with her. I did connect with her on a personal level when she was taking care of Joyce. It resonated with me regarding things going on in my life right now. Overall, it was a good story. The epilogue had me confused at first but then it made sense at the end. I would read more books by this author.

I really enjoyed this romance story. It has parts that make you laugh. The leading lady Elle is really relatable. She is a young business woman who is running her mother  bakery. It’s not what she wants to do but she feels she owes it to her mother.
When Zane opens up another bakery right next door it makes Elle angry.

The anger from Elle to Zane intensifies when he makes her an offer for her business. It will give Elle the chance to do what she really wants which is create cakes so why does she see this as an insult. Elle’s firey  temperament brings out her protectiveness  towards her mothers business and she will stop at nothing to protect it.

Zane however can’t understand Elle’s reaction. All he wants is to spend time with her and get to know her but Elle fights him all the way. Until she gives in and things seem to be looking up.

Is this all a ploy by Elle to find out what Zane’s planning? What happens when pretending to have a connection to someone turns into a real passionate connection? Can Elle survive opening her heart to Zane?
