Remember His Name (Remember My Name Series Book 2) by Laurencia Hoffman – Review by Beverly Finnie

Remember His Name (Remember My Name, #2)Remember His Name by Laurencia Hoffman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Remember His Name is book 2 in the series by Laurencia Hoffman. Her Characters and story are extremely well written. Yes this book ties into her first book Remember My Name, but I don’t feel you have to read that book as well though you SHOULD, to enjoy this one. This story does contain potential trigger warnings early on, but it’s not a theme throughout the entire book.

The book specifically focuses on Wren as an 8 year old boy to the present day, who lives the life of an empath. (Side note: For anyone who doesn’t know what an empath is, it’s someone that feeds off of other people’s energy. Which is something that could be absolutely rewarding but also weigh very heavily on them.)
We follow Wren through his emotional turmoil after his husband is murdered.

When he stumbles upon Adam his life changes, and he starts to live life again, despite knowing his fate. Adam helps him in his quest to find out who murdered his husband, before the murderer gets to them.

Does Wren find the guy who murdered his husband? Does he get the opportunity to clear his name and prove he’s a good person? All those answers and more will be found throughout your book journey with Wren. Again it’s another well written book by author Laurencia Hoffman and I encourage each and everyone of you to give it a chance. You will not be disappointed!

Remember My Name (Remember My Name #1)Remember My Name by Laurencia Hoffman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Remember My Name by Laurencia Hoffman is not for the faint heart and has potential trigger warnings within. It’s well written and it definitely has lots of intrigue.

The main character Shane reminds me a lot of Holden from Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger. He’s stubborn and he’s all about Shane! He’s someone who doesn’t take other’s feelings into account and uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism. This is his journey of his experiences of that great love as well as a past, present, and future of trauma and sadness in his life.

When Shane first meets Callen, he knows that’s it for him. Callen and Shane share a chemistry that exceeds all obstacles in their way, or does it?

He’s extremely secretive and the trauma’s in Shane’s life not only impact his relationship with Callen, but also family and the few friends he has. Unfortunately he has one secret he feels could destroy everyone he loves that he uses to push everyone in his life away.

Does Shane end up with his happily ever after? Do his secrets destroy everything he holds dear? I encourage you to dig in and find out. If you love a good romance with some suspense and mystery thrown in, this book is for YOU!

A murder mystery with a very different back story. So interesting and intriguing. The main character has so much depth you can’t help but be empathetic towards him. He is living but not thriving and you’ll become his biggest cheerleader. Along the way, you may even reflect on your own life and the difference you make.

Four Stars

Remember His Name is the second book in the Remember My Name Series by Laurencia Hoffman. This story features Wren and Henry and the twists and turns had me reading long into the night. You could read this book as a standalone but I would recommend reading the first book in the series first. They are both good reads. This book closed some gaps that the first book left hanging. The writing improved with this book, not that the first book was bad, this one seemed to flow better. I like reading MM genre and I look forward to reading more from Ms. Hoffman in the future.

I love finding authors with a unique voice. And this series from Hoffman is one that stands out to me for several reasons. In an era where too often fiction we pick up has very strong male leads, Hoffman dares to provide male characters that have depth, a distinct voice, and emotion (gasp). I really have enjoyed the emotional journey this book and series has taken me on. Just really well written.

Remember His Name (Remember My Name, #2)Remember His Name by Laurencia Hoffman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wren Stafford is an empath, he has known this from a young age, but has never been accepted by others because of it, he lives with his parents, but they don’t get on as well as they probably should do and because of his ability to feel the emotions around him in an amplified manner, it often times overwhelms him, not to mention that if he touches someone, the experience is even more unsettling as he has images thrown at him from the persons past. All Wren wants to do is live a normal life and help others, but this is not going to be an easy thing to do, but as soon as he can leave home, he does, but things change completely when he meets someone at his workplace and finds the love that he has always wanted and the knowledge that they love him too, despite being the way he is and Henry is that person .

Wren still finds it hard to imagine that his one true love has found him and sometimes that plays on his mind, but the more he begins to accept it, the more he flourishes as a person and grows into his abilities and his confidence in every day life and when Henry proposes to him, he tearfully agrees to marry him, the next chapter in his life rushes by him in a whirl of wedding planning, work and love, that is until what should be the happiest day of his life arrives and he has a horrifying vision as he takes his vows. His vision is of his husband being murdered, he tries to tell Henry what he has seen, but he isn’t believed, this is the beginning of an anxious downwards spiral for Wren as he tries desperately to make Henry realise that it is true, but as the vision begins to play in his nightmares and more detail is forced into his dreams, Henry finds it more and more difficult to accept, until the day it actually happens and Wren is too late to stop it.

As the investigations starts, Wren is the prime suspect because of his knowledge of what was going to happen and him being found at the scene of the crime itself and despite the fact that he was attacked and injured himself, nobody believes his innocence and the small life they had been building falls apart around him as people turn on him and pint their accusatory fingers and words in his direction as well, in the end, Wren stops going out, he distances himself from work and closes himself off from the world outside. However, what they don’t know is that Wren is now having visions of his own death and they are just as gruesome, if not worse that Henry’s, again, his nightmare play out the scene, but this time, it is different, this time, he can see certain things he couldn’t see before, could these things lead him to the real killer? Will Wren be able to figure out the puzzle being laid before him, or will he run out of time and become the next victim before he can prove his innocence at last? This is a thrilling mystery with a thread of romance weaved throughout and will keep you guessing the who, where and what all the way until the end as the tangled mess of flashes is unravelled.

Wow and I thought book 1 was heart breaking, this one really did it for me. Please be advised of the triggers of abuse when reading this book. I can say this book parts of this were harder to read due to the triggers for sure for me, but yet I wanted to know about Wren. His story is truly heartbreaking, especially when growing up all he wanted was unconditional love from his parents but his father, I am just shaking my head. There are no words I can describe Wren’s father, just not good. When Wren meets his love, Henry, thinking this could be Wren’s happiness. But as fate would have it this book, twists and turns come into play. Will Wren find out the truth? I recommend reading the first book as some things tie in… but I do not want to give it away. This book is dark, heart wrenching and I am torn in thought. After finishing this book, it has taken me a day to write this review because of thinking of everything that happened in this story. Shane Coulter’s character has totally torn my heartstrings many times in this book. He is angry, distant and at times a complete jerk, keeping family and friends at arms length not to get close. Yet I feel for him completely, the abuse he suffered and the loss of a close friend that he never got over. The story unfolds as we meet Callan, whom was the love of his life, pop back in and wants another chance with Shane. There is a lot of love/hate feelings from Shane when it comes to giving Callan another chance. This story unfolds, but there is so much more… Family secrets, lost friendships, Dark twists and turns along the way, but I do not want to give the book, you need to read it to find out. The ending though made me feel like I missed a piece of some puzzle that I am trying to wrap my head around. Please be advised there are triggers of abuse. Overall 4 Stars.

Remember His Name (Remember My Name, #2)Remember His Name by Laurencia Hoffman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Laurencia Hoffman writes gritty stories that really touch the heart and soul. Wren is an empath. Had a horrible childhood and his mother committed suicide when Wren turned 18. Wren’s mother was also empathic but was convinced by his father that it was a mental condition. When Wren’s mother commits suicide, he walks away from his father.
Wren falls in love with an amazing man, Henry, but their marriage is overshadowed by the visions he starts having. Wren knows Henry is going to die, be murdered, but when? Henry refuses to listen and they start to grow apart. The police believe Wren committed the murder and he continues to have visions. Can he figure out what the visions mean before it is too late?
Laurencia writes about things that aren’t always mainstream or that are misunderstood. Being empathic and feeling everyone else’s feelings can be overwhelming and confusing.

This was an incredible story for me. I have just come out with my own sexuality in the last few years. Reading about Shane and his struggle of being gay and his family not so supportive of that hit some heart strings for me. Shane has been through a lot. The first boy he dated, Jake, disappeared. Then he met and fell in love with Callan. When Callan walked away, Shane was heartbroken.
Callan reappears and Shane has to make some choices. He still loves Callan, but can they date, and Shane still be able to hide the secrets from his past?
I related to the characters in this book and felt like I got to know them all personally. Thank you Laurencia for a heartstring pulling story. I loved it!

Remember His Name is the second book in the Remember my Name series by Laurencia Hoffman. When I quickly clicked on this book, I hadn’t really noticed it was part of a series! I jumped in at book two, not knowing what to expect nor certain if I would be able to follow along. I ended up enjoying the book and following Wren, often connecting with him, and really sympathizing with his sensitivity as an empath. If you missed the “warning”, this book covers a lot of sensitive topics and may trigger some readers. Though the story contains some dark elements, this built strong, relatable characters that evoked true emotion. There were times I was reading that I felt  uncomfortable because the emotions just leapt off the pages. Conversations between characters, especially between Wren and his mother were so real, I felt like I was watching a movie play out not just reading a novel.  I would consider Remember His Name a 4 star read and will happily go read book one now. Looking forward to more from this author.

Ugh I could not wait to get my hands on this book and now I am dying for the next one. That is the only negative I could possibly think of with this thriller with a twist of romance to keep the heartstrings bleeding… It ends fast. At least for me it did, as I was quickly sucked into this thrill ride and read well into the night to find out how this book would come to a close. I knew this would be a mind bender after reading the first in the Remember My Name series from Laurencia Hoffman, but man I have to say there were definitely some twists I did not anticipate to see when I saw the premise and teasers for this book. I was so happy with how well this book represented the MM genre as well, something I think Hoffman does a great job with in her novels. You can tell where her passions lay and I love it. I cannot wait to see what the next novel will hold!

An engaging MM thriller romance which does have trigger warnings and is book two in the ‘Remember My Name Series’ but can be read as a standalone story. Wren Stafford is an Empath, and so the intrusive feelings of others enter his mind and haunt his dreams. Having met the love of his life, Henry, Wren was pleased to put the pain of his past behind him but then he started having predictions of terrible atrocities to come. Although Wren warned his husband, Henry was found murdered and soon after Wren was named the prime suspect. Whilst being condemned by the public and harassed by the police Wren is also having nightmares of his own death, but he is determined to continue his hunt for Henry’s killer. As Wren tries to find clues in his visions to stop the murderer he is running out of time and may even become the next victim. This is a fast paced page turner of a novel which had me gripped from start to finish. The plot twists kept me guessing until the end of the story, which kept me hooked. An exciting storyline and great characters along with the authors descriptive narrative all added to the overall atmosphere of this suspenseful thriller, with a touch of the paranormal in Empath Wren.

Remember His Name is the 2nd book in the Remember My Name Series by Laurencia Hoffman. It is loosely a series, with not as much overlap/continuation as I would have hoped. I with they were more intertwined, as there were only a couple small mentions of overlap. I wish there was more time spent on the killer and how or why he chose his victims. I would have liked it to be a continuation of the first book, as it had a massive cliff hanger ending. That said, I am not totally disappointed in this series, it was good and held my interest. It just left me longing for more. It is a story that focuses on Wren and his heartache and pain throughout life, being an empath. The story starts out with Wren as a child, and there is a lot of focus put on his dad, and his job. I thought maybe it would take a Mafia twist, but it just kind of set the groundwork for the rest of the story. Without giving it away, I hope the character introduced toward the end gets a book of her own. I want to know what comes of her and to know what happens to the killer… is he caught? Do we learn the why behind it? This book has a trigger warning, and pay attention to it if it might bother you. These themes are strong throughout.

Well-being a second book it took most of the book to get a glimpse of the main character from the first book. It seemed a little strange how it started. This is the second book in the Remember My Name Series. It is just as emotional and gripping as the first book. The author does an amazing job with her characters. The way the author writes about Wren’s life, from him being bullied, to the abuse at the hands of his father, to struggling with his gifts as an empath and all that entails makes you feel every emotion and like you are battling everything with him.
This is a M/M romance Thriller. When Wren’s husband is murdered he sets out to find his killer.

After reading Remember My Name(Book 1), I expected a similar story. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t. Many of the problems experienced by the characters in both books are real life situations that people can learn and grow from.

Remember His Name is the story of Wren Stafford, an empath. Being an empath for him as a child was a horrific experience both at home and in school. People, including his father, didn’t understand him and his abilities, so he was bullied and abused. As an adult, Wren found an outlet for his abilities by opening an animal shelter, Paws and Claws. Through Paws and Claws, Wren meets Henry. Henry becomes his husband, but on their wedding day, Wren has a terrible vision. Five years later that vision comes true.

Upon his husband’s murder, Wren becomes a suspect. Despite being innocent, Wren is questioned often by the police and every time a similar murder occurs, he gets brought in again. Despite the harassment, Wren maintains his innocence and keeps looking for answers to his husband’s murder. Can Wren find the man who murdered his husband before it’s too late?

Hoffman does it again! Remember His Name picks up with a new story following the painful life of empath Wren.

Wren endures ridicule and abuse for most of his life-never feeling wanted, much less understood. Still, his compassion and kindness are ever present, even with darkness all around him. After experiencing much loss, will he find happiness or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?

Although Hoffman’s books can be difficult to read with the many dark elements, there are always just enough little elements of light and happiness to keep you going. The suspense woven into the story keeps you turning the pages on this one too. I felt it all in this one, anger, sorrow, hope, and angst—I cried a few times. As with the first book, we’ll developed, likable characters and gripping storyline. I’m yearning for a third book (I hope there is one the works) to see how this saga may resolve!

Book 2 in the Remember My Name Series introduces us to Wren and his husband, Henry. Wren, sensing that something is about to go terribly wrong, warns Henry. But when Henry doesn’t listen, he is murdered—and Wren is the prime suspect. Now, being hounded relentlessly by the press, the cops, and everyone around him, Wren is desperate to find the killer. Because now his visions are showing him his own death!

Book 2 is such a great story. I really enjoyed this novel and felt that the characters were more developed and the story had more flow than book 1. The cliffhanger in Remember My Name is wrapped up neatly in Book 2. Laurencia Hoffman knows how to keep the reader intrigued and rooting for the protagonist throughout the story. I will be looking forward to reading more of her stories in the future!

Shane, young, bitter, with his heart closed off, hides secrets from everyone in his life, including Callen. Callen, older, successful, and Shane’s first adult relationship, reenters Shane’s life after breaking his heart. Can Callen break through and help Shane confront his past, his many dark secrets, before it is too late?

I enjoyed Remember My Name. The characters are likeable, but are not very well developed. The reader is left with a lot of questions about who he is. The relationship between Shane and Callen was realistic and I was rooting for them to figure it out before another heartbreak. I love cliffhangers and this novel is set up perfectly to lead into book 2 in the series. Great writing!

Remember His Name is the second book in the Remember My Name series by Laurencia Hoffman. After being so engrossed in the first book, there was no question whether I would be reading this book. Click- click-clickity-click. As with the first book this is quite a gripping and suspenseful M/M romance. It is dark and emotionally charged- keeping me glued to the pages as everything unfolded. This is definitely my favourite of the two books.
Even though this could be read as a standalone if you wanted to, I do recommend reading the first book before starting this one, as there is a tie to the first book that is worth knowing.
My heart broke for Wren and what he went through- he feels compelled to unravel the clues and get to the bottom of it all, but time is not on his side. The tension is palpable in parts.
Definitely worth the read!

Thank you, Laurencia Hoffman!
