Shattered (Logan McKenna Series Book 1) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Shea Gilkerson 11/9/23

Shattered: Logan Book 1 (The Logan McKenna Series)Shattered: Logan Book 1 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having read a couple of later Logan series novels as my introduction to her fantastic stories, I felt she was like an old friend who had suffered trauma in her past. Reading this filled in so much more and was so well written. There are multiple characters with well understood storylines without muddying up the journey – expertly woven and playing off one another throughout the story.

Logan McKenna hears of a car accident that has taken the life of her husband. While she considered THIS the life altering scenario that shattered her, she suffers through so much more – the box that appears on her doorstep from her husband’s mistress on the day of his funeral, sharing every dirty detail of the betrayal – to the selling the parts of the computer/tech company the two of them had built up together, to just learning to live a new life without both her husband and their company. Logan takes a job as a teacher, and is excellent at it…so good, in fact, that her students perform exceptionally well on their tests and a jealous fellow teacher accuses her of cheating to make herself look good. She truly fears she will lose her job over the accusation.

Buying a new house is a move to help her find herself and relax into this new life – but now she has heard a close friend has been accused of the horrific murder at a festival. Thomas refuses to talk about it at all, even to defend himself, the cops have found evidence of payments between the victim and Thomas, and Logan can’t help but try to get to the bottom of it to save her friend. As the situation gets progressively more dangerous, Logan proves herself strong and capable throughout the book. Will she catch the killer? Is it Thomas, or will she redeem him?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vanishing Day is the 4th book in Valerie Davisson’s Logan McKenna Mystery series. This book was a continuation of the story of Logan McKenna and the excitement that seems to follow her around like no other. This book promises you excitement, mystery, and a fast-paced thrill ride, and it lives up to everything promised and so much more. You cannot help but grow to love and feel invested in the characters that you’ve met in the past books, as well as gain a deeper understanding of their characters as Valerie continues to masterfully build upon their true natures. This story does touch on some very touchy subjects including spousal abuse, but it’s so ingeniously approached that it doesn’t overshadow the true purpose of the storyline. Once you start this series, you will not want to stop until you get through all of the books, it is so amazing, I’m so excited for the next book.

Every time I pick up a new book in this series, I am just speechless. I love each one more than the last and that’s saying something! This author has such a magical way of weaving these stories that pulls you into the world. It feels like an immersive experience instead of just reading about something happening to a character. Speaking of characters, Logan is one of my favorite people of ALL time. She seems to have a knack for finding trouble, or vice versa. You can definitely read this as a standalone, but reading the previous ones gives you so much more depth with our main character, Logan. I promise you’ll end up picking up the rest of the series afterwards anyways! If you’re looking for a thrilling crime read, look no further. This book (and series) is the one for you!

The author does very well in pulling the reader in just a few pages. She does well in giving us vivid detail about what is going on and telling us how the characters feel emotionally. The characters are very well developed and each one is very relatable. I’m amazed at how much Logan’s character has grown throughout the series.

Once again, Logan has found herself in trouble. While going to Oregon to check in with the school that she’s partnering with, she finds a dead body. Another one. They seem to be attracted to her. The police are convinced they know who committed this murder but they are also in a bit of disbelief that Logan is showing up at all their crime scenes. She does tend to get these murders solved before they do though, so maybe they should appreciate her presence!

Another great read in this series! These can be read as a standalone but I do recommend starting at the beginning so you understand all the people and relationship dynamics.

I am really enjoying this series and each book seems to get better. In this story of Logan McKenna, the reader gets a bit of a history lesson, along with an unsolved murder. No one ever knew it was a murder though, except for the perpetrator. Logan also learns about a half sister that she has and she’s able to meet her. That doesn’t happen without a lot of drama though. This story is very intriguing as there is a link to the past with it. Things also seem to be progressing a bit more between Logan and Ben too. I’m curious to see what comes next!

Logan just can’t catch a break!! She takes her family on vacation and trouble seems to follow her wherever she goes. She and Ben go on a boat/fishing excursion and at the conclusion of that, they both witness an argument because the boat’s captain and a former employee. The next thing they know, the boat captain is dead and Logan’s phone is found and is evidence towards finding the one who did it.

This one has a pretty diverse cast of characters and the stories are becoming more developed as the series continues. I’m really enjoying this series!

I’m working my way through this series pretty quickly and I have to say, this has been my favorite book so far. It covers the sensitive topic of domestic violence and I think it was done in a way that covered it delicately.

Logan has a new neighbor and she’s pretty tight lipped on where she’s from. However, Logan isn’t one to push and when Lori starts to open up to her and spend some time with her shopping, Logan realizes that all might not be well. One day when baby Shannon turns up on Logan’s doorstep, she immediately is concerned about Lori and finds her beaten within an inch of her life. Not knowing any of Lori’s background, all Logan can do is call the police and get the investigation started.

Meanwhile, Ben drops a bombshell on Logan that gives her a lot of things to consider. She’s not sure she’s ready for what he’s asking about and it could change their relationship forever.

While there is still a lot of repeated things in this series, it’s starting to become a little less. This book could be read as a standalone but the reader would be missing out on the previous adventures that Logan and crew have been involved in.

Another great Logan McKenna Mystery! This time Logan is helping a friend who is one of four suspects in a murder. Of course Logan can’t help but look into who may have committed the crime. The author does a wonderful job of world building so we can really imagine how the characters are feeling and how they respond to Logan’s search for the suspect. Will the police figure out the right suspect or will Logan dig deeper to find the true suspect?

You won’t be disappointed reading any of this series. It does help a bit to start from the first book as some characters pop into a book at any time. The author sure keeps us readers hooked!

Logan’s daughter, Amy, is home from her travels in Africa. She’s home because she is receiving treatment for and recovering from malaria. She’s under strict orders to get as much rest as possible. Liam, Amy’s boyfriend, is taking the doctor’s orders very seriously and monitoring Amy’s progress hourly.

The sea otter center, which is fairly new, receives a new sea otter pup after Logan and Amy find it trapped in some seaweed while on a walk one day. Eager to learn more about the habits of sea otters, Amy volunteers, along with several of her friends, to help nurse the otter back to health.

A snag has come up in the sea otter center though as another person has come up claiming rights to the property. There is a lot of legal battling going on, and then a break-in, some injuries, and a murder. What has Logan gotten herself into this time?

I enjoyed this story and it kept me engaged. This one was a bit more emotional for me because of the situations within the story. I continue to look forward to reading more of this series.

Logan just can’t stay out of trouble

We start book 7 with Logan going viral with several of her compositions on her violin being put together online on a video and it goes absolutely viral. She’s shocked and it rocks her confidence in her decision to marry Ben who finally proposed, how will money effect their relationship?

Logan goes out of town to Whisper Creek for a consulting gig to help at New school who she’s always refused to sign on full time for. She meets up with a few friends and comes across Monica, a woman no one likes and she’s played her husband and step son really dirty, but when Logan finds her dead and the questions start it doesn’t matter who Monica was but who killed her. The police think they know and Logan knows they are wrong and has to figure it out before a friend ends up charged with a murder she’s sure they didn’t have any part of.

Well done suspense again! Poor Logan needs a vacation from all this drama!

Forest Park: Logan Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series)Forest Park: Logan Book 2 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book takes place about 6 months after the end of Shattered: Logan Book 1. Logan is still trying to wrap her brain around the events of the last 6 months, as well as prepare for the upcoming school year. Before school starts though, Logan takes a trip to Portland. While there, her favorite food truck is attacked and a murder takes place. There are a few suspects, all of whom Logan feels are innocent and she’ll do what she can to clear their names.

This book has a lot of repetition throughout, which I found a little annoying. Because of that, there are parts of this book that drag along. However, if this is the first book that’s been picked up in this series, the reader should be ok as their is enough background given (sometimes repetitively) that no losses will take place. This book was also classified as a thriller. I would say more of a crime-mystery but I wouldn’t go so far as to say thriller. It was an enjoyable read and I’ll continue on with this series.

4 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Logan McKenna is back in Whisper Creek, Book 7 in this series. While this book could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading this series in order. Suspense, intrigue, danger, murder with twists and turns….I enjoyed this story and already looking forward to more in this series.

Logan is now tasked when one of her friends is a suspect in a murder, to find out the cold hard truth. The police feel like they already may know whom the killer is…..but Logan needs to investigate more, figure out the pieces….as the victim was not very well liked. When there are four suspects possibly…its gets a bit twisty. So many accusations and lies floating around, who do you believe?

Great story and hard to put down…..

This is the 7th book in the Logan McKenna mystery series. Even though it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone novel.
Whisper Creek is set in small coastal town of Depoe Bay, Oregon. The way the scenes are written, I can see the setting in my head and can feel myself there on the Oregon coast. If you like strong female leads, a page-turning plot, and twisted endings, then you’ll love this suspenseful novel! I have read all of the books in this series and this one doesn’t disappoint!

Logan is still recovering from the loss of her husband. Her year of teaching has gone really great, up until the last day when a note is left on her desk that has her questioning her teaching future. Nevermind that for now, though. It’s summer vacation and she’s going to help her friends with their booth at a summer festival. While there, she gets to meet and experience some of the life of a glassblower. It’s only when her friend Thomas is accused of murder that she dives deeper into the world of glassblowing to try to clear her friend’s name.

This book is mysterious and held my attention, making it difficult to put down for any length of time. I wasn’t overly surprised as to “whodunit” but it did take me a bit to put two and two together. I enjoyed this story and the writing style and look forward to more in this series!

Another story with Logan finding herself in the middle of an investigation.
Her guy (Ben) bought a vacation home in Oregon and they stumble across details of the murder of charolette collins. This murder has several hidden details they find when starting to renovate and of course Logan has to get to the bottom of what happened.
I really enjoy Logans strong personality she is a fierce woman and no one gets in her way. This story also took on more dimension than usual with the addition of her half sister to the usual cast in her life. Multi generation family drama and secrets are found and the author Brilliantly shows how trauma can transcend generations and effect people for years to come.
You dont need the other books to understand the plot in this one but I do feel like I understand Logan better with the other books prior.

What happens when there is a piece of property that is up for grabs, and quite a bit of people are interested in it…. that is the big mystery! Well, that’s what happened with prime real estate spot, Lot 429!
This is the third book in this series and our main character Logan, and her daughter are moving to California and have no idea what kind of adventure is in store for them.
As always, Valerie Davisson writes another great mystery adventure featuring our main character, Logan McKenna. Even though this is the third book of the series, Valerie does not fail to impress me with the detail she has added into the book. Some authors kind of lose you after the first couple of books of a series, but Valerie does not! The book opens with luring you into the story which will make you want to keep reading to uncover the truth and the mystery around the real estate plot 429. Will Logan be able to solve the mystery, save her daughter, save the Sea Otter rescue center, or will everything just continue to fall apart with no end in sight?
If you are looking for a great thrilling read, with its fair share of twists and turns then this is a must read!

Logan and Ben have recently bought a fixer upper vacation home on the Oregon Coast. Things are coming along nicely when she receives an email from her half sister Olivia stating that she would like to meet up while she in town on business for a few days. While anticipating Olivia’s arrival her reporter friend gets a call about a dead body found at The Collins hotel. The deceased is Charlotte “Charlie” Collin, 32 years old and in perfect health. Logan finds herself pulled into this mysterious case for two reasons: firstly the home she recently bought was purchased from the deceased woman’s fiancé. Second: the first time she saw her sister in person was when she was being questioned by police. Was this a suicide or murder? Who would have a reason to kill this young woman? Was it her fiancé or someone unknown?<br />Another great Logan McKenna adventure down. This character attracts trouble almost as soon as she walks out her front door, but her knack for being able to find the ins and outs of a case make up for it. This is one series that I have liked from the start and I hope there are more books to come.
