I absolutely LOVE this series. Each book shows the readers that not everything is what it seems. This book by Lois Wickstrom proves that treasure is not always gold, treasure can be anything and everything you find valuable to you, such as your grandma. With both of my younger sisters currently pregnant with their first babies I plan to get both of their bundles this entire series for future use.
Magic Wanda (Grandma’s Closet Book 3) is such a cute book!! Cute story and fun art!! I think that most younger children (under 10) would love this magical story and follow along easily. This book is about a young girl named Carrie. She finds a box in the closet and when she asks her grandma about it, she learns that it has magic Wandas inside it. Not wands, but Wandas. Different right? Well there is a reason for that!! You have to read the book to find out, but let me just tell you that Carrie has quite an adventure with these Wandas! She even almost gets into trouble with her mom!
Everyone was excited to start a new book by this author, and what a fun book this one was to read. The whole story is designed to spark the imagination and I could see it happening with my daughter as we read the book. The images in the book were creative and helped to keep my kids engaged from start to finish. As a parent, I always enjoy books by this author as, not only are they fun, but they are based on a great premise. This is probably one of our favourite series from this author and we are all looking forward to what comes next.
What a fun story. I really enjoy Carrie’s adventures with her grandmother’s things. This time she discovers magic Wandas, her mom sees a doll, but Carrie sees a living and talking being. It is really cool that Lily makes her wishes reality while waiting for her family’s party. I absolutely love the art, Carrie in her pink party dress is the cutest.
Absolutely loved this book. The next object Carrie finds in her Grandmother’s things are sticks that help her find treasure. Her dad is wanting to find a well of water but Carrie is looking for real treasure. The ending made me smile when, Carrie finds her treasure, her grandmother. Such a sweet moment between them.

As I have mentioned with the other book in the series- I love the cover illustration, but was really disappointed to find that the interior illustrations are not of the same type/style. The inner illustrations, although quite whimsical in a naïve style- weren’t quite as ‘interesting’ or appealing to me- and I don’t feel that they draw or hold your attention like the cover picture does. The cover picture made me want to find out what happens and captured my imagination- but the inside pictures were a bit lacking- in my opinion. Carrie has found a new tool in Grandma’s closet this time. In the box marked Dowels she finds some rods and goes on a treasure hunt. I found this story to be a bit of fun when reading because my grandson had all kinds of questions about them. He wanted to have his own hunt. He also wants to know if I’ll make a closet of treasures. It’s a neat story of exploration and sparks a child’s curiosity. Carrie teaches kids about imagination and learning. The author always gives us a spark to light the learning. Another neat book to add to the family library.

Carrie once again finds something magical in Grandma’s closet! I love how Wickstrom encourages kids to use their imagination and yet she’s always teaching lessons within her books. I loved the imaginative twist on the mythology of the loch ness monster. I think older children would really enjoy this twist on an adventure fantasy story. I think it is definitely aimed at children 8 and up with a better reading ability.

Magic Wanda is a colorful, magical and imaginative story that we follow Carrie once again and what her Grandma has in store with something new. Carrie must get ready for the party, but all Carrie wants to do is to know more about “Wandas”. Carrie learns that “Wandas” are magical and fun. What does Carrie learn about this magic….definitely read and find out.
This is a fun filled story more for ages 4-8 years but can also be enjoyed for the young at heart. The illustrations are colorful and engaging and who does not love a magical book..
Always such beautiful illustrations to accompany the never-ending imagination of Lois Wickstrom and Carrie. Grandma’s really do always have the most interesting stuff. This installment was about magical wandas and honestly my favorite part was the comparison of wands and flashlights. They only work on things outside themselves. How does that make Wanda’s different well you’ll have to read and find out.
My kids liked the story and were interested in what the Magic Wanda’s could do. They asked a lot of questions about the magic Wanda’s and wanted more adventures!
Overall it was a cute story for an adult to read to a child. The constant change in font style and size may make it hard for kids to read on their own.

This was an adorable story. My kids loved all of the “adventures” and learning what a “Wanda” was. Beautiful illustrations perfectly depicting everything marked up the pages and brought the book to life. This was an enjoyable book all in all. I highly recommend this book especially to those with little ones.
We are such fans of this series. I love Grandma’s Closet. Being a grandma myself makes this such a fun series. In this story, grandma tells her about the magic wandas, which look like flowers, but they have magicand can talk. They can look like anything. The story allows for creative thinking aand allows for the imagination to roam. We enjoyed reading this one and plan to add it to our story library.
There are many wonderous things in Grandma’s Closet and in this case, it is Wanda’s. No, they are not magic wands. The Wanda’s themselves are magic. Journey along as Carrie discovers what exactly the Wanda’s can do in this fun tale. Carrie is indeed fascinated by the Wanda’s and seeks out her grandma’s advice, but grandma wants Carrie to use her imagination and explore the possibilities. The story is about bonds, the love of a grandmother and her granddaughter and the magic of life and discoveries. Magic stirs the imagination in young and old alike.

Another Wickstrom story, well loved by my niece and nephew. She has become one of their most asked for authors. Craig and Linda’s adventures with Nessie have become their favorite. They can’t wait to see what adventure they all have next. While this story is geared more toward the 8 to 10 year old range, it can easily be enjoyed by younger children. My family would recommend this book as well as the author.

This is the second installment in the Nessie series with Craig and Linda along for another adventure! I never hesitate to pick up one of Wickstrom’s books and I love her chapter books as much as I do her picture books. She’s always weaving lessons and learning together in such a way that kids don’t even know they are getting something out of it! This is a book that your older ones can read on their own or you can use this as a family read-aloud. I love the illustrations sprinkled throughout the book and I can’t wait to see what Nessie’s (and Craig and Linda’s) next adventure will be.

Craig took something that did not belong to him. Now he is back and their is a new family who has a young girl who is quite boisterous. With a talented singer coming to perform a concert, Craig and Linda find that their is something afoot with Nessie. Can they stop the harm that is threatening Nessie and her family before it is too late?
Another good one in this series. I think the story delved into some of the emotional influences children can have at their ages. The illustrations are beautiful and just enhance the story.

Another adventure with the legendary creature residing beneath a famous lake. The sibling duo has returned to the famous tourist attraction a year after their unforgettable first visit. During this visit, readers learn the difference between looking less childish, and the actions required to lead them on their pathways to adulthood. The main characters must battle their own selfish tendencies, and convince adults around them to do likewise. This is a great children’s book, and it features Celtic folklore as well as Celtic folk songs.

This is a wonderful addition to the series. It has appealing illustrations that match perfectly for the book. There is Scottish culture spread throughout this cute story about the Loch Ness Monster. The reader is on an adventure that is entertaining and engaging with thrilling adventures!
