This was a sweet, and wonderful children’s story that I got to be very much engaged in as I read! I found the story was beautiful wit h its illustrations as well as cute in how the story went and that the story flowed very nicely. Caspian was a wonderful character who was sweet, and very relatable I found. I enjoyed his adventure with the mind reading hat, and how he was able to listen in on conversations that he did! The story was wonderfully done, and was a perfectly written children’s book. Highly enjoyable and I highly recommend!

This is book number six in this adorable children’s series about Caspian and his “UnBirthday” gift from his grandfather. The author has written another imaginative story that is perfect for kids of all ages. It also teaches kids that while it may be nice to hear other’s thoughts it is difficult job as well trying to help everyone. Caspian did a great job and learned a lesson that it’s not always rewarding to hear what others are thinking. The illustrations are so good, and I love how the colors pop off the page. They truly do go perfect with the story. I highly recommend you pick this book up for your kids.

The Mind-Reading Hat is story about another of Caspian’s unbirthday present from his grandpa and the adventure his gift leads him to experience. This year’s gift is a fedora hat that allows him to here others thoughts. This year he received a second gift from his mother as well, a rock that helps him with ideas. I read this with my kindergarten aged niece and nephew and they absolutely loved it. The story taught them how to keep trying and never give up. The Mind-Reading Hat is another hit with the kids, they can’t wait for the next!

This was a nice story that I could see using in the classroom. I really appreciated the simplicity of it but the way that it could encourage interesting discussions. I found the concept of the hat very interesting and loved the connection to his grandpa. The format of the illustrations was interesting and I think that children would enjoy it. Overall, this was a cute book.

I really enjoyed the storyline and illustrations in this easy to read childrens book. It was very colorful and after the first couple of pages, easy to follow. Can you imagine getting a unbirthday gift that allows you to hear people talking while wearing it? Caspian receives a gift from his Grandfather and it is completely unexpected, and his unbirthday journey takes an unexpected turn! I love how this author lets the reader use their own imagination when reading this book, I felt as if I was walking right next to Caspain throughout his entire journey, in which was an amazing and exciting one. The author did not miss a beat when telling this story and the illustrations were so cute and perfect on each page!

It’s Caspian’s Un-Birthday and yell he gets two presents this year. The first is a hat that lets him hear the thoughts of those around him, the second is a stone that helps him come up with ideas. Through a series of events Caspian finds both the good and bad about having a hat that lets you hear thoughts. He also figures out how to use both of his gifts to save a life! All in all this was a very cute short story that would entertain young readers.

Caspian is back with an all new unbirthday present or two. When Caspian woke up he was surprised to see 2 boxes under his bed. The usual big one his Grandpa always out there and a small one right next to it. In this book the two I birthday gifts work in and hand in order for Caspian to rescue something special. Another great read for the kiddos.

The Mind-Reading Hat is the sixth book in this picture book series and is a fun story. Lois gives us another charming, original and imaginative tale for children between the ages of 4 – 8 years old. The colourful illustrations help to bring the story alive.

Caspian’s is back on a new adventure. This year his Grandpa gave him a Mind-Reading Hat for his UnBirthday Gift. Find out what happens when he dons his Mind-Reading Hat.

The story has magic and adventure and there is always a message featured with each one.

Another cute read in this series. This story seemed a bit quicker than the previous one, but it is still entertaining. It is an easy-to-read book, and the story is easy to follow as well. Once again on his unbirthday Caspian goes on an adventure. This time he is given two gifts and uses them to unravel another mystery. While this new adventure for Caspian was fun it did not seem to pull the reader in to the story as much and was quickly over, but young readers will enjoy this fun story that has Caspian thinking and learning as he enjoys his newest adventure.

Another cute book from this author. In this Magic Wand Book Caspian receives another UnBirthday present, well actually two of them. They, as all the other presents, are very special. As the title states, Caspian receives a mind reading hat. Whose mind will he be able to read? Where do these minds take him: on an adventure, in search of more gifts, etc.? These books are great for kids. They allow them to use their imagination. It leads them to thinking that what seems silly or impossible might just be real.

Caspian’s grandfather has all of these magical items that are given to Caspian on his unbirthdays and he gets the joy of learning in this book, what the hat and stone do for him. This is such a great story to get the imagination flowing in kids.

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at the University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.

Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays for children.

She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.

Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children and four grandchildren, and a dog. She gardens, rides her bike, and tries to save the planet.

The-Know-It-All-Pencil (Invisible Magic Wand Series) by Lois Wickstrom – Review By Anantha Rusum

The Know-It-All Pencil (Invisible Magic Wand)The Know-It-All Pencil by Lois Wickstrom

A very cute book for children, the story revolves around an unusual gift a boy called Caspian receives for his birthday from his grand father. The gift is a pencil which writes by itself. But does the pencil just write or is there some reason behind what the pencil is writing? Initially it writes one word, then when Caspian gets what it is asking for , it connects the thing to a person, and that person might be in need of help ! A very cute story about being kind and helpful to others written in a very unique way. I absolutely loved this book

The-Know-It-All-Pencil (Invisible Magic Wand Series) by Lois Wickstrom – Review By Janel Bernotas

This is such a great children’s book! Every year on his “Unbirthday”, Caspian receives a gift from his grandfather. This time it was a magic pencil that wrote words on the notepad by itself. The words confused Caspian until he realized they were things that other people around him needed or needed his help with. A wonderful story about helping others in need with a little bit of science information thrown in too! The-Know-It-All-Pencil is beautifully illustrated. The artwork is vivid, and descriptive of what is happening in the story. All in all, this is a good book for children to read, and I would love to read more of this series. I absolutely recommend this book to other parents to both read for themselves and read with their children!
