This was such a cute children’s book! It was fun to read and easy to let a beginner read have a handle on a few of the words! It also opened up the entire world of science!! My daughter really enjoyed the read with me and I look forward to continuing to read this to her!

This is the first of the Invisible Magic Wands books that I have read to my daughter and the daycare children, and I am glad that I did! They very much enjoyed the pictures and how they were able to follow along with the story by hearing the words and then seeing the pictures. They really want to have an UnBirthday today and want to know more about Caspian and his adventures!
We did find that the story ended a little abruptly, but it was still funny, cute, and held all the children’s attention, which is saying quite a bit! For reference, they’re ages range from 1 – 8, the 8-year-old being the reader of the day! Will be grabbing the rest of these books for next week!
What a nice book! The artwork is beautiful and the story is sweet and interesting. I feel like this book would help any kid with their imagination, because it would be so cool to have a pencil that kind of predicted your adventure for the day. The trading scenes were super cute, I think most kids would trade bananas for a worm! Easy and great read for kids, looking forward to sharing it with my nephews.
This is a really cool children’s book just right for those little girls and boys who are interested in discovery and science. My granddaughter is one of those. She loves experimenting and trying to figure stuff out. She would love this book and would want to replicate each of the experiments. So if your children or grandchildren are interested in experimenting and discovering new things I recommend this book for them.

For a children’s book, this is quite a way to introduce science into the lives of our kids. I found it to be extremely interactive for the kids and was great science experiments for them to try on their own. My kids loved it. The colors were so vibrant and jumped off the pages. I also loved the theme of using the mermaid to help engage the kids and teach them the lessons. I also found it to be quite interesting and learned some things I didn’t know along the way. I would highly suggest purchasing this book for your kids or for other kids as gifts. This would be a perfect gift for an elementary science teacher’s room. Please give it a read.

It’s Caspian’s UnBirthday again. This year, Grandpa gives him a pencil and a small pad of paper. When Caspian picks up the pencil, it writes the word APPLE. What does a pencil know? Grandpa says “It’s a STAR adventure.” But there are no apples in the house. Caspian rescues a runaway walker and returns in to the woman whose leg is in a cast. She gives him an orange. He trades the orange for two bananas. He trades the bananas for a worm. Eventually, he gets apples. The pencil tells him to take them to Miss Susie. What else does the pencil know?
Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at the University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.
Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays for children.
She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.
Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children and four grandchildren, and a dog. She gardens, rides her bike, and tries to save the planet.
I loved this book about friends Trezzie, Maia and Fig who share their ideas with one another on how to make things like a rainbow with only a piece of paper, a mirror, and a glass of water. This book was full of super cool ideas and teaches science in a way that is both fun and creative. It was easy to read while also being informative and contains beautiful illustrations throughout the book that make reading entertaining. I cannot wait to read it again and again with my young nieces and try out some of the science experiments in the book. I highly recommend this book!

The Mermaid and the Rainbow was a fun story! What a great way to get kids interested in science. It jumped from one experiment to another without explaining or connecting the experiments, but was still educational overall. The kids were still excited and wanted to try the experiments, which was the point. Lois Wickstrom did a great job making education fun!

Mermaid and the Rainbow: Mermaid Science by Lois Wickstrom. This is such a cute, fun young children’s book. Its about science and different fun things involving science. We follow the cute characters on an adventure where the reader is taught science experiments. The character are Trezzie, Maia and Fg. Trezzie is a mermaid and Maia and Fig a human boy are her friends. My 4 year old nephew loved this book. He loved learning how to make a rainbow! I believe this is a great book for a gift for all your young children! They will love it!

This is such a fun way to introduce science experiments to the children, the pictures are bright and children get attracted to it.
The book was really cool and an easy read, it is recommended especially for young kids or mothers with young kids.

Mermaid and the Rainbow: Mermaid Science by Lois Wickstrom
This is the first read by the author that I’ve read. Mermaid and the Rainbow is a cute short book about a Mermaid creating a rainbow. My kid absolutely loved it!
Trezzie is a mermaid and likes collecting things from above the water. She wants to show her friends a trick, but the sun isn’t out. The quote I chose for Trezzie is: “I’ve got a trick, too. Please hand me the glass.”
Fig is a human boy who lives on the land. One of his friends is a mermaid and he loves learning from her. He and his other friend show her tricks until the sun comes out. The quote I chose for Fig is: “Trezzie is a great teacher. I’ve got to try that trick at my family’s next picnic.”

I have a twenty-month-old daughter and a 7 year-old niece and they both loved this book. The vivid and bright pictures attracted my daughter and she loved going through them. My niece is “going to be a scientist” when she grows up and of course she loved the content. Plus, she loves anything to do with mermaids, so that was a bonus! This book is so cute. Trezzie is a mermaid who wants to show her friends, Maya and Fig, how to make rainbows and do an experiment with paper, a glass, and the lake water. Beware, the children you read this with will want to do these things when they are done reading! I recommend this book if you have small children as it is fun to look at and will keep their attention.

I thought this book was a really cute and fun book to learn about science. I enjoyed reading this book and finding all of the tricks that the mermaid knew and taught to the children. This is definitely a book that children will love. The illustrations are bright and colorful, and display the scientific experiments well. This little book is a fun conversation starter with your little one to do some of these experiments on their own with their own mermaid!

This was our bedtime story tonight and I had my 10 year old who struggles with reading, read it with me tonight. I also asked what they thought of the book and anything they would want to share and this is what they had to say :
“The pictures were beautiful! I really loved all the different tricks they showed. I wish there had been more of a story instead of just the tricks. I want to know more about Trezzie’s treasure chest!”
I would recommend this book to any family looking for a fun read that includes a little bit of “magic” aka science. While I wished they would have explained a little more of why the tricks worked, it was a fun book.

What a cute children’s book that teaches young children about science and different tricks involving science. I read this to my almost four year old and he loved it. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve read it to him. He kept saying read it again and again. He even “read” it to me in his own words. He loves books and especially ones with pictures. This is about Trezzie , Maia and Fig as they learn new science tricks from the mermaids treasure box. The illustrations are very bright and colorful. I highly recommend this book to anyone with younger children. We can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Mermaid and the Rainbow is part of the Mermaid Science books. I read this book to my 5 year old son, who enjoyed it. The art work is bright and colorful, and works wonderfully with the story. The tricks are cool, and we want to try the rainbow one, since it was new to us. I like that the story explained how the tricks worked, as well as showed them in the illustrations. Overall, a cute and educational book, appropriate for younger elementary kiddos.
