As a bee lover, I can truly appreciate this book for sharing so much useful information. I mean, the way the author made it was a clever read for me as an adult and easy for kids to understand as well. I’m beyond impressed with what and how my son was able to pick up on the importance. The characters were easy to love and understand as well. My 7 and 3 year old boys enjoyed this story as much as I did and I’m 35, LOL! Great read for the family to enjoy.

This story was fun, I had my two nieces take turns reading it out loud. They each thought it was a fun and educational. They both found it easy to read their ages are 10 and 8. Reading this together made them both want to learn about different kinds of bees so it truly turned into a wonderful learning adventure also. My favorite part is the activity in the back it elevated the learning and I love getting to have fun and teach my nieces new things. Five stars all the way and highly recommend.

Loretta lives with her parents and helps out around the house, one of her chores is to collect firewood from the woodpile and take it inside to heat their home during the cold, winter months, but one day while she is doing this, she finds a strange tube when it falls out of her armful of wood. She asked what it was and found out that it was a nest for leafcutter bees, so she returned it to the woodpile and checked on it when the weather warmed up.
As she watches the nest, she sees round holes appearing, she knows that it is the bees leaving the nest, but she cannot find the bees anywhere, she also notices more holes in the leaves of her families rose plants, but there is still no sign of the bees, where could they all be?
This is a charming tale which talks about the importance of leafcutter bees and how to attract them to your own garden, just like Loretta is trying to do.

Bees in Loretta’s Bonnet is a children’s book that will be fun for all ages! This book predominantly aims to teach children about bees (leafcutter bees). The illustrations are impeccable and really help to bring the explanations to life. This book portrays observations of your surrounding and how to handle predicaments that may occur. It also shows the compassion that should be shown to insects in general. This is great learning material that shows the situation from a kid’s point of view.

This is a nice book that shows young children that bees are not something to be afraid of and that they will help your garden grow. Young Loretta finds out a lot about bees and how they help to pollenate the plants in the garden. She learns about how the bees grow in the different seasons and what the bees nest look like. Nice to see the way the parents show and teach Loretta about bees, she is able to learn as she is encouraged to be curious and to enjoy nature. It was also nice to see a section at the end of the book showing children how they can make nests for the bees themselves. It is an easy step by step guide with pictures.

I feel this is a good educational book, great for school or homeschooling. The book has great information about leaf cutter bees. I also like that at the end, the book shows you how to make a nest for bees, which is a great activity to get talking about helping bees and why we need them. Although the pictures don’t match the other cover style, I enjoyed the outdoor spring illustrations and thought the pages near the end were beautiful.

As always a great educational read from this author! I really enjoy reading her books as they are such great short stories that are full of great information for children. I always love the activities she includes at the end of the books and in the case of this one it was how to make a bees nest. I think there are some great talking points in this book for children and would make a great addition to schools if they are doing a topic which includes learning about bees.

Young Loretta is bringing an armful of firewood into the house when a round tube with holes drops out of the center of the logs. She is told that it is a leafcutter bee nest and that leafcutter bees are better than honey bees for pollinating plants. Loretta is told to put the nest back in the woodpile outside so the bees can find it. Loretta keeps an eye on the bee nest and discovers more holes appearing in it but cannot see any bees.
As the weather warms up outside, she also notices that there are holes in the leaves of the rose bushes, but she still sees no bees. It comes as a complete surprise to Loretta when she finally discovers where the bees have gotten to.
I absolutely adored this book and feel that it is the best one that I have read so far by this author. The illustrations were beautiful and really helped to bring the story to life. Although this book was geared for children, I walked away with knowledge about leafcutter bees that I did not previously know. I had no idea that they were better than honey bees for pollinating gardens. I loved that the author included instructions for building your own leafcutter bees’ nest so that you can attract more bees to your yard. I am anxious to build one with my young nieces and put them in our yards. A must read for all ages!

My kids and I ( 6 and 8 years old) really enjoy reading books by Lois Wickstrom. Bees in Loretta’s Bonnet was a great addition to our kindle collection. I always enjoy learning from this author in the form of a fun storyline. Tonight’s theme was obviously bees. While it was great for our home library, I think it would be a good addition to any elementary school class as well. I really enjoyed the illustrations too but my FAVORITE part is the activity included after the story itself.

Bees in Loretta’s Bonnet (Loretta’s Insects) by Lois Wickstrom. I love this author. Her books are always very informative and fun. This is the story of Loretta who goes to get firewood and finds a nest but thinks its a toy. She later finds out it a nest for Leaf cutter bees so she puts it back and in the spring she finds the bees in it. She tries to learn as much as she can about them and even learns how to attract them and help them survive. This is such a cute, informational book that would make a great gift for the little one in your life.
Bees in Loretta’s Bonnet is another wonderful creation by Lois Wickstrom! This book has detailed illustrations and contains educational materials. Children can learn about bees, specifically leafcutter bees from this story. I would also show children a photo of a bee nest after reading this story. This can help children know that when they see the nest, they need to respect it because bees are inside it.
A great activity to do with your child would BEE to grow a garden and take photos to document different animals/insects that visit the garden to pollinate the flowers. Loretta and her father also make a home for the bees in the story, so this book lends itself to making a bee home.
I always enjoy Wickstrom’s books because they have educational value and are fun to read. Bees in Loretta’s Bonnet is a fantastic book for any curious child who loves insects and gardens.

This was a really cute book. Loretta’s story taught me some new information because I had never heard of this kind of bee. The story flows really nicely. I think it’s easy to read and is perfect for those little kids who love to read. I have read a few books by this author and I highly recommend their stories to anyone who has small children and who want to help them explore their imagination through books.

This was an adorable book to read to my kids. They loved learning about the leafcutter bee’s, and their habitat. We were thinking about making our own bee place and this book gave great instructions on how to properly make a hive. This book is very informative as well as an adorable story to go along with it!

Loretta loves exploring her world. When she was helping to collect firewood, she discovered a mysterious rolled-up leaf. When her mother explained it was a nest for leafcutter bees, Loretta wanted to learn more! As the seasons change, Loretta follows the progress of the bees to learn all she can.
This book is adventurous and informational. It is a good lesson on the life cycle of leafcutter bees and what they do for our environment. My kids were engaged in the story the entire time. The illustrations are bright and fun. There is even a cute activity included at the end! If you have an insect-loving kid, this story is for you.

What a cute little story for young readers. A lost bonnet turns into a learning experience for little Loretta. I read this book aloud to my five year old niece who is not a fan of bees. The book has her wanting to lose one of her hats outside for the bees to make a nest in too. We both enjoyed the story! The little helpful bee nest making instructions at the end was a bonus. This spring we will be making one to see if we can attract some bees to our yard for our flowers.

Read this book with my 6 year old. We loved it. We had recently learned about honey bees, so it was nice to learn about another type of bee! This was a really cute book! Not was only was it cute it was also informative about bees. This book is definitely for older children in my opinion, because younger children aren’t going to understand some of the science and logistics of this story. There are also some really neat and interesting crafts and projects at the end of this book that kids would enjoy!

This is a cute story with a nice message. It give some good information about the leaf cutter bees for an adult and younger child. The illustrations are nice but I wish they were a little clearer since I knew nothing about these bees and wanted closer looks. In the back it gives information about making a home for these bees with every day products. This is a good story as well as informative.

I love these books by this author. Especially when she gives you a treat with an activity you can do with your kids after reading the book. In this story we learn about bees and their importance. The author makes it clear that we don’t fear bees but we do need them. In the back of this book is detailed instructions on how to make a bee home for your yard with your littles. This is definitely worth the purchase. Your kids will love it.
