Dirty Heartbreaker (Hamilton Steelhawks Series) by A. C. Sheppard – Review by Lorralei Hoerner

Dirty Heartbreaker: Hamilton Steelhawks Book 3Dirty Heartbreaker: Hamilton Steelhawks Book 3 by A C Sheppard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Dirty Heartbreaker is Book 3 of the Hamilton Steelhawks series and a new author to me! This is a contemporary sports hockey romance and one of my favorite tropes. Romance on and off the ice, drama and angst, I loved this story. Although I have not read the first two books in the series, I did not feel lost, but I will be definitely circling back to start this series from the beginning. I was hooked from the first page and looking forward to more in this series.

Steelhawks hockey start, Colby Shelton, is hot both on and off the ice. He loves his team but also loves the ladies. There is one lady that is on his mind that he cannot let go…Gabby Abbandonato. As Gabby’s professional career ends, she is a talented designer in figure skating costumes…she does not want to be the type who falls for the hockey player….with sizzling moments with Colby…its hard not to fall. But heated moments lead to silence as Colby is not the committed type. When Colby’s hockey teammate and Gabby’s friend get married..whom is part of the wedding party..none other than Colby and Gabby. Can they work together for the sake of their friend’s upcoming wedding while sparks still are undeniable between them…or will the past and stubbornness be in the way to true happiness…

Definitely read and find out…I loved this story of Colby and Gabby <3.

Fashionably Fake (Kings of Screen Series) by Morgana Bevan – Review by Lorralei Hoerner

Fashionably Fake (Kings of Screen, #4)Fashionably Fake by Morgana Bevan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a fun, contemporary friends to lovers romance…Fashionably Fake is Book 4 in this series…I thought this story was very enjoyable..the chemistry between Ros and Jackson was off the chart. Friendship, undisclosed feelings and banter..what will come of Ros and Jackson……..

Hollywood is all about facade….that is what Jackson is finding out being a well known actor, knowing he needs to clean up his act a bit. When Jackson confronts Ros with a proposition of one year of being together as a “couple”, what could he lose…..but Ros is hesitant, swearing not to get her heart broken again…she decides to take Jackson on his offer. Knowing how their friendship is…what can happen when Ros and Jackson blur the lines of that friendship when Ros is trying to fight off the feelings while Jackson is trying to embrace them.

Definitely have to read and find out what happens. This is a very good story, easy to read and I just loved the banter between Jackson and Ros.

With the help of friends, Eve dives into trying to put the pieces together to what happened…which leads to secrets that come to light… but will Eve and her friends be able to solve this mystery… definitely listen and find out! Deceptively Yours (Titans of Chicago, #1)Deceptively Yours by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The Titans are back, and can I tell you I was so excited….starting Deceptively Yours, which is the first book in the Titans of Chicago series. I am a HUGE fan of this author and I devoured this book and just could not put it down. All the feels of romance, drama, greed, danger, heartbreak, chemistry and some very steamy moments…Harper and Gabriel went through so much…it gutted me in many parts of their story….but I LOVED this book so much. I am eagerly anticipating on more from this series and I cannot wait.

How do you go from being together and having all of your future plans you want just go up in flames in a split second? The story of Harper and Gabriel is this story. All Harper and Gabriel want is a future together no matter what, but when a tragedy destroys those plans…Harper does nothing but try and protect the love of her life…Gabriel…but with lies. Split apart and no contact for ten years, Harper now is trying to protect Gabriel even though he wants nothing to do with the person whom tore his heart apart years ago. Harper is broken and feels like damaged good….she tries until the ends of the earth to speak to Gabriel..when a chance encounter leads them together again…hurt and anger along with love bring them close.

When hard truths surface that put Harper in danger more than ever….will Gabriel be able to be there for her when she needs him the most…..definitely read and find out.

I do not want to give anything away..but this story gutted me….and there are trigger warnings, so be advised….but this story was fantastic.

I love curling up to a good cozy mystery and I am no stranger to this author’s books. Murder She Meowed is Book 2 in the Bookshop Kitties Mysteries, and while I did not read the first book (yet), this story could be easily be read as a stand-alone…but I will definitely by circling back to read from the beginning. This story was fun to read with mystery, secrets a few twists and turns and of course kitties!! I love how this author integrates her story along with the kitties that make it fun.

Christy and a few friends help with her Aunt Betty’s wedding event to make sure everything is perfect. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Master Botosoni is Book Nine in the Masters of the Consulate series and this series gets better and better and every book if fabulous, and just when you think it cannot be any better…….it is!! The story telling that this author gives to the readers like me….WOW. This story is fast paced, action, very intense moments, vampires, rogue shifters, fated mates, betrayal, lies and deceit.

Master Botosoni is seeking to know what may be in store to come especially with the stench of rogue shifters and a possibility of a war. The help that he seeks is from Catina, whom can foresee the future. Catina is cautious, knowing her family is out to sell her to the highest bidder for money, as she seeks to live her life. Botosoni receives some answers from Catina that leads into high intensity moments, as he and the other Master prepare for war…..but the attraction between Catina and Botosoni is also undeniable. When danger strikes at Catina…will Botosoni be there for her when she needs him the most or will his greed of revenge come first…..

Definitely read this series in order as you get to know each of the characters…you will not be disappointed! I am already anticipating Book 10!!

When Xenobia has a new roommate in Urd, she never wanted to develop any friendships, but something in Urd bring Xenobia’s walls down and they become close friends. Hidden Mischief (Shattered Embrace #1)Hidden Mischief by Alyndra Quinn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Hidden Mischief is the first book in the Shattered Embrace series and this is also a new author to me. I was looking forward to the story-line after reading the snyposis with BDSM/Best Friends Brother romance. While I did like the story and characters, I felt it was a bit drawn out more in the dialogue piece between Ashton and Zachary and parts a bit slow. I am intrigued to continue this series to see how Ashton and Zachary’s story does play out…..

Ashton is career oriented and driven, strong woman who has no problem with handing anything that comes her way when it comes to work. What is in the shadows is Ashton’s personal life. She longs to desire her submissive side that she has always kept at bay. When Ashton meets Zachary for the first time, the sparks are undeniable…..but Zachary is the owner of Shattered Embrace, his club. When Ashton applies for membership, Zachary is intrigue by Ashton as she is not very open to showing her vulnerable side that is more passive. Will Zachary bring out Ashton out of her shell and will he also see what fate has in store?

Sasha Smart: Short Stories for Girls is a true gem. Inspirational, positive learning, overcoming obstacles, acceptance of others with good messages I believe this is a great book for some good discussions on topics that truly can hit home. While this book is geared more toward ages 8-12, Sasha gives great examples and senarios that even the older crowd can learn or use as a reminder.

This collection of short stories is engaging with some great illustrations in between. I love the feeling of building confidence in a young girl as she navigates different real life senarios that we all have been subjected to in one time or another.

Shifter Shorts by TK Lawyer – Review by Lorralei Hoerner

Shifter ShortsShifter Shorts by T.K. Lawyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Shifter Shorts is 6 “short” stories that I truly found quite enjoyable. If you love paranormal/fantasy stories with some alphas, sizzle, drama and fated mates, this is a really good read. I love the uniqueness of these stories as the shifters are gargoyles, dragon/vampire, hellhounds, cats, wolves and shark. As each story has its own blend of shifter and mate, each couple is trying to navigate feelings while trying to figure out next steps and survive dangers with an HEA, which I love.

While I enjoyed all 6 stories, my favorite story was “Gargoyle Mine”. I loved the gargoyle shifter and found it very different and quite enjoyable.

Each story left me wanting a bit more, so I am looking forward to more stories like these from this author.

Song of Earth and ClawsSong of Earth and Claws by Lena Abram
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 1/2 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Song of Earth and Claws is a fae fantasy romance with magic, danger, betrayal, kingdoms and powers. I truly enjoy fantasy, this was overall a good story, but a bit complex and there is a lot of information to try and navigate. The author did a good job providing appendix for glossary of terms, character (as there were many) and kingdoms that was helpful to me, but there were parts of the story that I feel like I was missing some valuable pieces. Overall, this was a good story and I really liked Lannahi as a character as she was underestimated many times.

Lannahi is betrayed by a man she thought she once loved…and this betrayal also would put her family in harms way, his plan is devious. Lannahi is now under Nihhal’s curse and she cannot speak of his deceit and betrayal or there is an ultimate price. As Lannahi finds courage to challenge a Queen for power of her land…….will Lannahi find she is as strong as she think she is…or will this not be as simple as she believes…will she be able to trust anyone or is she in this alone..

This is a good story, overall, it does take time to absorb…I am looking forward to seeing what this author brings next.

I love a good romantic suspense story that give me the twists, turns and drama with some sizzling moments. The author delivered of what I love in reading a story like this. A hot Navy SEAL and a very strong leading lady full of sass as well as the connection and chemistry between Waters and Kai is truly undeniable. Danger, intrigue, romance and the banter!!

Kai is a strong, independent film director with no filter and holds nothing back. She wants to direct a film that is accurate in details and hires a Navy SEAL to consult with. Waters is not initially looking forward to being the Navy SEAL to consult with over a film, but as Waters gets to know Kai on a work level, he is quite impressed, but he will always be a protector with his radar on high alert at all times. Waters feels like he is on alert knowing that Kai may be in danger, especially when her brother is missing…..what happens next and will Kai ever feel like she is good enough…

I do not want to give spoilers but this is a great read. There is so much details that has you at the edge of your seat turning the pages to see what happens next in the story. I love the dual POV in this story and I cannot wait to see what is next!!

The Cold Kid Case: A Sparky of Bunker Hill MysteryThe Cold Kid Case: A Sparky of Bunker Hill Mystery by Rosalind Barden

Fun and enjoyable cozy mystery with quite the characters! Although this story is more geared toward 11-18 years of age, I can say even the young at heart can enjoy this story. This book is set in the
1930’s as we meet Sparky and be taken in on a who done it mystery….

Sparky, an 11 year old street smart girl, is on her own living in the streets due to her own cousins leaving her behind. Thinking she is celebrating her birthday with her “sweets” and taking it easy on the local park bench….she stumbles upon a child whom is deceased. Sparky is on the run and all fingers are pointing in her direction, even from her own “friends”…..Sparky tries to find out whom is responsible for this death and clear her name.

Murder, mayhem and bad mobsters…will Sparky clear her name at then end? Definitely read and find out! This was a fun read.

Nessie and the Living Stone (Nessie’s Grotto) by Lois Wickstrom and Jean Lorrah – Review by Lorralei Hoerner

Nessie and the Living Stone (Nessie's Grotto)Nessie and the Living Stone by Lois June Wickstrom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nessie and the Living Stone is Book 1 of the Nessie’s Grotto series, and this is a wonderful story and I highly recommend. Coming into full circle with decisions and choices that need to be made, magic, imagination and creativity.

What happens when you believe you found a “magic stone”? Craig and his sister Linda are on one adventure when Craig finds a special stone, possibly magical. Craig is hopeful that he may be able to catch Nessie, but when a choice needs to be made in between the adventure that Craig and Linda have, will Craig make the right choice…

This is a wonderful story to be enjoyed by anyone. I loved the message behind the book and I always enjoy Lois Wickstrom’s stories. My favorite passage from the book (and this will stay with me for a long time)…”It’s what we give, not what we take, that makes us heroes or monsters”.
