Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Series Book 1) by Lou Grimes – Review by Netania Lim

Winter's Wolf (The Cursed, #1)Winter’s Wolf by Lou Grimes
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a paranormal fantasy about a teenager called Louvette who keeps moving schools and doesn’t know who her father is until a lawyer executes her grandfather’s will and secrets come out. There’s definitely a bit of every genre in this story, and the plot overall is interesting and suspenseful although it has moments of predictability. The writing itself didn’t exactly pull me in but the characters and their relationships with each other were interesting.

I sometimes feel it’s hard for me to get into a book of this type but I absolutely had no trouble sinking right in. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Four stars and highly recommended. Excited to see where this author takes readers next.

In this book, we meet Louvette, a teen getting adjusted to new schools but not without getting into a few fights. For the sake of her mom, she was willing to try to fit in but that doesn’t go so well as an attorney informs her she’s the beneficiary of her granddad’s estate at the Blackwood mansion but that mansion comes with lucid dreams that leave her unsettled. Her past begins to unravel as she must decide who she can and can’t trust along the way. I loved the characters from Louvette to her friend Cara and her relationship with Arsen. This is just book one and can’t wait to see what the others have in store!

After being removed from her most recent school, she learns that she inherits her grandfather’s estate. As she settles into the Mansion, her past comes to fruition and she finds out who she can truly trust. Mystery and growth on top of all the other things. I was truly surprised. Louvette can’t keep herself out of trouble, she’s been kicked out of multiple schools and this last one is no exception. Lou and her mother are planning on moving when a lawyer shows up with some very unexpected news. A brilliant read I loved Louvettes Character shes very likeable and someone you wish to be friends with. A great first book from a new series. Winter’s Wolf is the first book in The Cursed series.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got this book, but it turned out to be pretty good. The story concept is interesting and I enjoyed the characters. The author does a good job of building suspense so it keeps you reading. There are a few places where the story breaks down a bit, but I think this series has promise.

One of the things that caught me in this book are the names of the characters. I don’t know why it stood out, but the names really fit this book well.

Overall, a good read!

I give Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Book 1) by Lou Grimes, 5 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. This is a YA supernatural book where the main character discovers who they really are. While there are many books that fall into this category, the author does a great job of making this one stand out. Louvette is such a good character and we are along for the ride as she finds out more about herself. Most teenagers feel like she does at this age and I could easily remember those times while I read. The cast of secondary characters is also really great. Her mother did the best she could, but you can see the love there. Her friends are also enjoyable and I hope to see more of them too. Then there is the story itself. It’s not just a girl finding her way in this newly discovered world. There are more sinister things afoot, making the story all the more endearing.

If you are a fan of YA Paranormal books, I recommend this story to you. I cannot wait to read the next book.

If I’m being completely honest, I was drawn to this book initially because of the gorgeous cover. Shortly after, curiosity took over. I’m still fairly new to the world of shape shifting and werewolves and wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Winter’s Wolf was a great young adult read with action, danger and suspense and it kept me interested from the first to last page and everything in between. I look forward to reading more from Lou Grimes, especially the Cursed Book series.

Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Series Book 1) by Lou Grimes
4 Stars

Louvette has lived almost all over the southern US states. It seems her and her mother were always running. It didn’t help that she was always kicked out of school for fighting. After her recent expulsion, her mother was at her wits end. A knock on their door would change the course of her life. Louvette had never met her father yet she inherited everything when her grandfather passed away. Her mother wasn’t happy but without any other options, signed the papers. Louvette thought of it as a new opportunity to start somewhere new. The little town in Montana was quaint but had its secrets. Louvette quickly realized that she was different and that danger lurked around every corner.

This was an amazing debut novel and a great start to what I believe will be a fantastic series. Between these pages you will find action, danger and romance. The story will keep you glued from beginning to end. The characters are likeable and relatable. I can’t wait to read part two.

I really enjoyed this novel by Lou Grimes. It was for me a fresh take on a werewolf story and I really could not put it down. The story of Louvette’s journey of discovering herself and the truth about her family is full of adventure and intrigue. There are many twists and turns which kept the story interesting. The story has action, adventure, mystery, and drama. I found the story engaging. The story has a nice pace to it. I felt like I was right there with Louvette. She and her family have been moving around a lot recently. This was due in part of her behavior. That is until a lawyer came to the door with a bit of mystery. Will the family take this opportunity? How will the family handle themselves? I hope you enjoy this story as much as I have.

Winter’s Wolf by Lou Grimes is a paranormal romance. Louvette can’t seem to control her temper or stay out of trouble. Her mother is constantly having to move to the next town for a fresh start and to check Louvette into a new school. I enjoyed this Young Adult (YA) paranormal story by Lou Grimes. Louvette Blackwood and her Mum have moved around a lot and Louvette is seen as a bit of a trouble maker and has been thrown out of many schools. She never knew her father or even his name, until a lawyer turns up to execute her grandfather’s will. Louvette discovers that her grandfather was murdered whilst searching for her father, and Louvette is the sole heir to the Blackwood estate and fortune. Having signed the will Louvette and her mother head to Montana for a fresh start. This decision starts an eventful year for Louvette with a new place to explore, new friends, a possible romance, and new enemies. She is also determined to find out the truth about her father, and then there’s the wolf’s!
No spoilers, I recommend this YA book as it is fast paced with an exciting storyline and has some great characters, all of which kept me turning the pages well into the night. I look forward to future books in this ‘The Cursed’ series.

Winter’s Wolf was a really enjoyable paranormal story – although I have read a few stories from this genre it is not one of my go to books but I saw the cover which I loved and the blurb really intrigued me so I thought I would give it a ago and I really enjoyed it! The writing was easy to read, the story line was good and I really liked the characters. The author did a great job with world building and her creative writing style really came through. I liked that the story wasn’t quite what I was expecting either – it was a really refreshing read! Louvette was a really interesting character to read about – I really liked her.
I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this new series!!

This story grabbed me from the beginning and kept me intrigued throughout the entire read. This book is full of action, suspense, mystery and more. Given the circumstances Louvette handled the information well when she found out she was a lupine and had no idea until now. She has more questions than answers about her father and grandfather. There are other wonderful characters in this book that make this story that much better. I found myself turning pages while on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. I absolutely enjoyed reading this well written story and can’t wait to read what’s next. I highly recommend this book!!

The first couple chapters took me a bit, but once I got through that the book got so much better. Louvette and her mother Sarah are struggling and having to move often due to Louvette’s propensity to get into fights at school. This all changes when they are given the chance to start over due to a death in Louvette’s family. The new chance isn’t just a new home but a different life all together. As Louvette tries to be a better daughter and not get into fights at school, she finds some amazing friends with amazing secrets that also relate to her anger issues. The story gets you and keeps you guessing what will they learn next.

Its not like I don’t already have enough series that I must keep up with, but, Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Series Book 1) by Lou Grimes has been added to the list. This is a great shifter story and if the next ones are as good as this one this will shape up to be a really good series. The characters are all interesting and well tailored. Although there are many characters the focus is on the main ones with just enough information to start your anticipation for the next book in this really excellent series. The romance between Louvette and Arsen is very palpable and so very sweet. Some good clean love without the icky factor, may be what I love about this book the most. A very enjoyable read.

I had no idea what to expect when I picked up Winter’s Wolf, the first of The Cursed Series from Lou Grimes. This is Lou’s debut novel so was not only new to me but this was a new everything experience. Normally I am not drawn to shapeshifter or werewolf novels easily but this one just grabbed my attention with the teasers and blurb mixed with that gorgeous cover, that I had to know what happened in this book asap!

This book was a quick and fast paced read that never left me on a boring note and had me reading faster and faster to see how the book would culminate. I was so happy that this book included so many genres really that it was not completely consumed by the fact that it was a werewolf story. The characters are strong and fierce and Lou writes them with a conviction that makes them come to life and feel very real. I loved how this ended and look forward to seeing what the next few novels will bring about!

Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Book 1) by Lou Grimes is a YA paranormal story that has a bit of everything. The story is so vivid that it takes you away from everything and draws you into the world of shifters. I love a good paranormal story and this fit the bill nicely with murder and mystery, drama and suspense, action and adventure, the paranormal, shifters/werewolves, self-discovery, family, friendship, romance and more. I enjoyed the characters and found myself laughing at their banter. The story and the characters were well written about romance, friendships and family. There is so much more story to be told and I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book.

Louvette has been kicked out of many schools for fighting. She doesn’t start the fights, but she isn’t going to be anyone’s punching bag. After getting kicked out of the most recent school, an attorney arrives saying that she is the beneficiary of her grandfather’s estate since her father is presumed dead. Louvette has never met or even known the name of her father or grandfather, as her mother does not talk about them at all. Once they move into the Blackwood mansion (which is now her new last name thanks to stipulations of the will), Louvette’s life changes in ways she never thought of. She has vivid dreams that she can’t seem to shake. She caught the attention of Arsen on her first day in town, and he is determined to guide her through all these changes. As she learns more about her past, Louvette must decide who she can trust and who she can’t. The story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger…as there are many questions that have no answers yet.

I found myself drawn into the story and want to read the next book when it comes out to get more of the story. I enjoyed watching Louvette learn about her past and who she really is. Her friendship with Cara is great to read and her relationship with Arsen is full of potential. Like I said, I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next book.

Winter’s Wolf is the first book in The Cursed series and debut novel for Lou Grimes. This story sets the series off to a great start- and is definitely a series I will be following closely.
The book is so much more than just a paranormal young adult werewolf story- there is a bit of drama, murder, mystery, suspense, action, adventure, the paranormal, shifters/werewolves, self-discovery, family, friendship, romance, and more.
The world building is richly detailed, and Lou Grimes has a very descriptive and dynamic style to her writing. If this book is anything to go by, the rest of the series is set to be great.
And did I mention….. WEREWOLVES!!! #winning #youhadmeatwerewolf
Can’t wait to see what happens from here.
