I’m usually not a Historical Romance fan but this one left me wanting more. I can’t imagine having to be forced to marry your enemy and actually find happiness. Sir William and Isabel’s banter and relationship truly warmed my heart.

Set in the year of 1484, this story begins with Lady Everett teaching her daughter, Isabel, her role as a woman. Isabel learns how to manage her home as well as how to receive guests. When her father arrives home, she learns she is to be married to Sir William Ward of Rocham. Her upbringing showed her family had an allegiance to the House of York, and yet her father was to have her marry the opposing House of Lancaster. Despite this betrothal, Isabel does as her mother instructs her and lays her faith in her father’s wisdom.

Upon her wedding day, Isabel become Lady Ward. She was quite nervous and, despite being a knight, William appears to be so as well. Two days pass, and they begin a long journey, upon which, Isabel notices that, Sir Robert does not seem to be fond of the union. She learns that her husband was not in full allegiance to the House of Lancaster as much as Sir Robert. When Sir Robert is not following them further than Baron Sanford’s estate, William confides in Isabel that their union was also a test for the angry knight. He failed by his behavior and was to be tried for treason.

The couple becomes more solidified in their relationship, but soon they both discover there is much to learn. When her Uncle Walter appears, Isabel was careful to remember her mother’s words, “Being a woman does have its benefits. You sit and observe, unnoticed by others.” Those words became a strength for Isabel throughout the remainder of the story.

This was a beautiful getaway of a novel. The time travel back to 15th century England and its troubled ways was a change that was needed, and thoroughly enjoyed as I was on vacation. I have read several novels as of late that were based back in 15th-18th century, and this one definitely was all consuming in the words in which were used, the customs we became familiar with, and the emotions of a young lady doing her due diligence to please all those around her, and to fulfill the needs of her people. I especially loved being inside Isabel’s head the night/day after their wedding.

I did find it a little difficult to get into at first, though the author clearly took her time to weave the story so that the reader was able to follow the story more clearly throughout. It kept me guessing as to how closely knit the families within these pages really were, the future of the newlywed, and what it meant for their society and their world. I loved the world-building, character development, and plot line, and would be more than happy to read more by this author in the future!

Romance, history and adventure
This engaging historical romance takes the reader on a journey back to a medieval time. The dialogue used was brilliantly executed and there was plenty of depth to the storyline that kept me intrigued. The events that unfolded around Isabel captured the essence of the era and was balanced along side the banter and personalities of the characters. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

I’m not a huge fan of historical romance type stories, but the synopsis of this one intrigued me. Isabel is set to be married to a man she has never met. When she learns who she intended to marry she can’t help but internally question her father’s choice. Surely he wouldn’t sacrifice her happiness by marrying her to the enemy? Will she find happiness with Sir William and be able to be a good wife? I have to say that I would not have been able to go through with an arranged marriage. Not knowing whether or not you’re compatible with your other half would be hard. This book was enjoyable and pulls you in from the start.

Love In the Roses is the first book in the Love Through the Ages series by T.L Clark. It is an historical romance set in medieval times during the War of the Roses- there is plenty of drama, adventure, politics, and banter- just to name a few.
As I would expect from Ms. Clark, this story is really well-written, engaging, and interesting. Ms. Clark always weaves a wonderful story and this one is certainly proof of her talents.
The dialogue, scene setting, and whole ‘atmosphere’ of the story was cleverly crafted to be in keeping with the times, and provided an intriguing snapshot of medieval life. The glossary of words at the back of the book, was not only interesting, but also quite useful.
Add an arranged marriage, honour, sacrifice, culture, and finding love unexpectedly- and we get quite a captivating story. So, if you love your historical romance stories, then you will certainly want to get your hands on a copy of this book asap.
Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Clark does next…
Happy Reading!

Thank you, T.L. Clark!

Isabel is a young woman in the 15th Century during the time of War of the Roses. Her father has arranged a marriage to a knight on the opposite side of the war. At first Isabel is hesitant and unsure of herself, but when she meets her intended she is even more unsure. But not is all lost when she discovers the man who he truly is. During the time of war and unease puts poor Isabel through some hard discoveries, but I’m glad by the way she handles them. The love between her and her intended made me want to read more and get lost in another historical romance. I will be reading more by this author! The food mentions was a plus!

This was a very sweet romance about a young couple in medieval times when Richard the 3rd was king. Isabel’s father has arranged her marriage to a knight she has never met before. Isabel is concerned when it is discovered that while her family supports the house of York in the War of the Roses, while her husband’s family are supporters of the house of Lancaster. Determined to be a dutiful daughter and a good wife, Isabel marries Sir William and they embark on their journey to their new home. They have to work together and figure out how to trust one another if they want to make it succeed. The author did a great job of describing different situations and holidays and how they would have been handled back then. Having the War of the Roses in the background added to different intrigues that the characters had to face. I thought the characters were well written and complex. The author didn’t shy away from making the bedroom scenes steamy, but still keeping with the time period. Definitely a great book to check out for fans of romantic history books!

This was a good historical romance that pulled me in right from the beginning.
Isabel and William were great characters. Isabel has been betrothed to William, a man she doesn’t know and she also sees as the enemy. Although, after they marry and spend time together their connection grows. They learn that marriages do have bumps along the way but they are great together.

Overall this was a great read. All of the secondary characters were great. The food and the celebrations added some great pieces as well. If you’re looking for a Historical Medieval romance you will enjoy this one. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.

Loved this book so much! I really felt I was transported through time, and in the century this book takes place on. The book was full of wonderful and realistic characters, and I could visually imagine gracefully as I read. The book was amazing in all which it held. I was hooked, and in love entirely!

The book had the historical romance we all live and ache for. The drama we all dread. The heroes and heroines within ourselves that is ready to draw its sword. The book had it all, and the writing was sensational, and full of its own magical intrigue. It was a wonderful read, and I really connected with the wonderful characters as I read, I could not ask for more, only wish it was longer! My heart loved it!

I could not put this one down, defiantly became one of my favorite books very quickly. The writing held its own magic as the characters did! Highly recommend this must-read book! So amazing!

I loved reading this historical romance story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. I enjoy how this author can pull me into their stories from the start by their writing skills. I also enjoy how well rounded their stories are. Their attention to details make the story realistic as well as how you feel part of the story. This is a well written story about an arranged marriage. What will happen when you are married to the enemy? The characters in this story make the story pop and just come to life. They are loveable, strong and supportive characters. I enjoy the chemistry and growth throughout the story. This is a story that ticks all the boxes for me. A fast paced story that is full of romance, some action and hard to put down. This is a must read story. I highly recommend this book and this author.

I think this book had so much potential. When I started the book I was so excited to get into the “crisis” of the story. Isabel was arranged to marry Sir William, but he’s the enemy. Would Isabel be able to be the good wife she is suppose to be h set these circumstances. So much could have came from this story line but I felt it was dismissed early which caused the plot to me lacking for me. If you enjoy 15th century setting you will thoroughly enjoy this book. The author did a great job at her research. Knights, swords, lords, they way they celebrate the seasons and holidays, and the language was very immersive. Isabel and Sir William have a wonderful relationship, they communicate from the beginning creating something beautiful. He never once asks Isabel to change who she is, which is a incredibly witty and fierce woman. Although not for me, this book is def someone’s cup of tea!

This was a really interesting and gripping medieval romance. I love history and this step into the past was a really good read. The author does an amazing job with the research and the information about the 15th Century and how the world was in that time really bring history to life.
This book is a really interesting insight into the lives of people of that time, and how the War Of the Roses affected everyone not just the people fighting in the war.
Isabel’s is a knights daughter and of marrying age. When her father set her marriage up, she is apprehensive about who her husband will be and what he will be like. What she doesn’t expect is that she will be married off to  Sir William who is the enemy of her people. Why would her father agree to this union? Does he hope it will bring both parties together? How will Isabel cope trying to figure out her place in the world and how to do her role as wife to the enemy.

This story is a really interesting romance and shows what it would be like to be a young woman in that time period. Nothing is as it seems which makes this story really captivating.

I haven’t read a book in this time period in a while. I enjoyed it. Isabel was a pretty good character with a good balance of qualities. I am always partial to food mentions during historical fiction books and really enjoyed reading about some of the treats in this book. Her connection with William was very authentic and they had good chemistry.

Isabel is promised to a man that she has never met. She has a lot of insecurities about marrying a man she has never laid eyes on, but she trusts her father to make the best decision for her. She follows through with the marriage despite her doubts as to which side of the War of the Roses he is on. Needless to say, she is pleasantly surprised that her husband is honest with her and even though there are miscommunications along the way, they come to an understanding with each other. As the story follows the first year of their marriage, they learn together how best to serve their people.

I enjoyed this read depicting life in the 15th century during the War of the Roses. I appreciated that the author was up front about the history and that it was their perspective of how things might have played out if this story had happened. For me, it was fascinating how many holidays and celebrations the people had in 15th century England! Reading about how Isabel worked through new responsibilities and balanced it all while being so young was entertaining.

Isabel, daughter of a knight, finds herself promised in marriage. This is during the time of The War of The Roses. This makes it worse because her husband is on the wrong side. Through many adventures, Isabel finds that her father has prepared her for survival. The question is can she? It’s going to be a rough journey during a time when when are seen as property. I enjoyed this historical romance because I found Isabel to be a very strong character. Knock her down and she’ll get back up. She knew how to survive. Her mother taught her skills on the side. She was a very brave woman. The story pulled me in the farther I got. I found the action to be intriguing trying to keep up with who was behind what. I found the intrigue quite entertaining. It is a very good book. A new author to me, I will be looking for more of her books to read.
