Spirit Guide (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries #3) by Byrd Nash Review by Heidi Woodring

Byrd Nash has done it again!!! Spirt Guide is the third book in the Madame Chalamet Mysteries series, and again a book that I could not put down. Elinor and Tristian are again needing to work together. Girls are missing and, in the city, where ghosts are real, anything is possible. Seeing Elinor grow with her ability in each book truly makes that much more of an impact. Also seeing the connection with Tristian, her duke, grow makes the read so much more too.
Byrd Nash again shows us her writing style is amazing and the world she has created is so vivid. As a reader I want to be able to close my eyes and see the characters, see the world created and I can when I sit and read this series. You are given so much from twists and turns, to ghosts, and also Elinors quest to find her dads killer! WELL DONE and can not wait to read the next I the series.

This is the first book I have read by this author, so I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. I was blown away by the way the characters were developed as well as the incredible world-building! The plot is expertly crafted and flows so naturally, it’s truly astounding. My attention was gripped from the very first page to the very last with plenty of twists that I didn’t see coming! The banter between characters had me giggling quite a bit, but don’t let that fool you because this book is full of suspenseful surprises. I enjoyed that the pace doesn’t have any dips at all which allows it to power through at a great speed. If you’re looking for a quick and incredible paranormal story, this should be your next book!

Imagine a mystery, ghost tale and romance all over into one! After discovering a body in the water, this spurs the investigation in this ghostly, coastal city and recruits the help of the Morpheus Society. This special society speaks to ghosts and is led by Elinor Chalamet, who also happens to be the daughter of this newly discovered murdered victim. Story gives off a steampunk vibe as well as remnants of spiritualism mixed in with those classic detective fiction type stories. There is quite a bit of detail along the way of the occurrences but it does help give a better visualization for the reader.

Ghost Talker (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 1) by Byrd Nash. This is such a fun paranormal story. Its a mystery along with all kinds of ghosts, secrets, possessions and house arrests. Its the story of Elinor who is a ghost talker and has all the tools to get the dead to talk to her. Many people seek her out to talk to their dead loved ones and the Inspector in town even seeks her help with local crimes. So when Elinor is taken to the morgue to investigate a body that was found in the canal. When she gets there and sees the Duke is present as well. Finding out the present Duke is involved puts a whole new pressure on Elinor to find out who the murder victim is and how he is connected to the Duke. Such a fun read full of mystery and intrigue. This book offers its readers both an interesting storyline and interesting characters that you will enjoy reading about. The leading lady, Elinor Chalamet, is a little on the snarky side (I think that is the word I am looking for) and that is a side of her I thoroughly enjoyed. This is a great start to the series and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

An interesting book that was a good read although some portions of the plot did not seem to flow or link as smoothly as you would imagine, but otherwise a good story line.
The character development is good for Madame Chalamet (Elinor) and her medium ability (literally talking to the deceased) has come in helpful when solving murder.
The Duke de Archambeau thinks otherwise and would like it if the talking (to the deceased) did not lead to so many questions (of the living). He plans to remove her ability to cause problems by taking her hostage and holding her against her will.
There is a dabble with romance between the two characters which lightens the story slightly.
Ghost Talker (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 1) by Byrd Nash – Review by Rita White

This is the first book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries. We are introduced to Madame Chalamet, she is a proper, well versed, medium. She can communicate with the dead. The sooner they are dead the better she is able to communicate. She has inherented this trade from her father who was also a jewelry maker. He was murdered and she has been looking into who actually murdered her father. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to go deeper into the characters and more background of Madame Chalamet.

Madame Chalamet is a medium who uses her abilities to help the police. Shes also trying to solve a personal case of who killed her father. She sets out to “prove herself” to a Duke who doesn’t believe in her work. Can she solve who murdered the man pulled from the lake? And what about the mysterious death of the duke’s wife? This was a quick ghost mystery and a good starting novella to the ghost talker series.

Madame Chalamet is the Ghost Talker. I was drawn in at the first meeting of her thinking she might not be my favorite main character but am pleased that was not the case! She is witty and intelligent as well as compassionate and sassy. The storyline is very interesting and very original. Im also a fan of all the supporting characters along the way. They make the story and keep you guessing as to what happens next. I’m very hopeful the other books in this series are as good!

Ghost Talker (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries #1)Ghost Talker by Byrd Nash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ghost Talker is the first book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series. I actually started with book 2, Delicious Death, because I was drawn to a paranormal mystery that centres around dessert! Ghost Talker has less dessert (although there are some tasty treats!) but the characters, setting and intriguing plot mean it’s still an enjoyable book!

This is a Gaslamp Fantasy, set in a fictional world that’s based in part on the late Victorian/early Edwardian times. Elinor, Madame Chalamet, can communicate with ghosts and uses her skills to help people with a variety of situations including solving mysteries, coping with grief and addressing hauntings. While her work is appreciated by her clients, the proliferation of phony ghost talkers means that many are skeptical about what she does.

There are lots of mysteries to solve in Ghost Talker. Supernatural elements and court intrigue play a part, as well as normal human emotions and motivations. The darker elements are balanced by cheerful moments between friendly characters, such as Anne-Marie and Jacques, and descriptions of things like food and costume.

This book gets five stars from me! I’d recommend the series to fans of fantasy mysteries. If you haven’t read any gaslamp fantasy you should give it a try!

Ghost Talker (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 1) by Byrd Nash – Review by Kirsten Berkebile

This is book #1 of the series “Madame Chalamet”. There is 4 books to this series and I have read 3 of them. This first book really sets the scene for the series. I do recommend reading this series in order. I am really happy how this one takes me on an adventure during a time that people believed in ghosts and that they are wondering around with us on another plane. While I felt a close connection with the characters in this particular story (mostly the ones who have lost someone) I really wish that I could relate more to Madame Chalamet. If you like the idea of ghost wondering around with you and interacting with you somehow, I feel that this book is definitely for you.

Thwarting an assassination wasn’t on the menu.
Elinor’s holiday is nearly ruined when a poisoner targets the king and what’s even more irritating? Tristan Fontaine, the Duke de Archambeau, thinks to solve the case before she can!
Between saving a society lady’s reputation, comforting a girl with a ghostly brother, and conducting a séance for a widow, Elinor has her hands full. All she wants is to enjoy dinners prepared by the best chefs in the land, but Tristan’s mother and sister can’t stop giving bossy advice. It’s enough to spoil the dessert course.
Despite it all, she might still find time to enjoy herself especially if it means snooping through other people’s wardrobe closets.

Spinning tales of subtle magic with unexpected twists, she packages satisfying stories that reads like no others. Byrd writes the book you need, not the one you expected.

Described by one reviewer as a “literary glass of bourbon after a long day,” and another: “When I get a Byrd story, I know I’m in good hands.”

Whether it is a Doppelgänger who was once a medieval knight now working in college administration, or an updated Red Riding Hood escaping a post-WWI wolf pack, her characters all feel real.

That Celtic goddess at the pet store? She’s someone you know. A medieval queen fleeing an abusive marriage? You experience her pain and triumph.

With a B.A. in journalism, she worked as a newspaper reporter, covering news, schools, and lifestyle for both weeklies and dailies. She was the first journalist to serve as director of The Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park, Oklahoma.

Her hobbies include reading, nature hikes, and traveling when she has the money. She seldom has the money. Married to a man who reads all her books but with two adult children who never read them. Byrd has cats, which makes her a legit author.

The way this story is told is so different. I kept waiting for the “story” to start but little did I know the author smoothly snuck the story in while I was waiting. Next thing I knew I was half way through the book. I became so interested in what Madame Chalamet was doing and how she does what she does. I enjoyed the secondary characters especially that Archambeau.

This has a really nice flow to the story making it easy to read. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this one and look forward to the next one. I am curious what other powers she has as well as how and why she is doing this for a living.

So I had accidentally read book 2 and loved it, so I definitely had to go back and read book one to get a bit more information. Elinor is a fantastic character, she is bold, clever, and not afraid to get into trouble if it means finding out answers. Her interactions with everyone just crack me up, but especially with the Duke de Archambeau. The author creates a very real world with the added mix of the supernatural that everyone treats as regular every day norm. I enjoy that we have the current mystery that the Duke needs her to solve, but we also have the 20 year old murder of her father that I imagine will follow and tie the stories together. Definitely a wonderful read and a great series!

“Ghost Talker: Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Volume 1” by Byrd Nash is a delightful and engaging read that combines elements of fantasy, mystery, and romance. The story follows Elinor Chalamet, a talented medium with a penchant for solving mysteries and communicating with the dead in 1910 France.

The plot is cleverly crafted, with a unique blend of ghostly encounters, witty banter, and suspenseful investigation. Elinor’s character is well-developed, with a strong sense of determination and independence.

The setting of Alenbonné, a coastal city with picturesque canals and a rich history of ghostly activity, is vividly described and immerses the reader in a world of wonder and magic. Nash’s writing style is engaging and evocative, making it easy to become lost in the world of the story.

Madame Chalamet is a ghost talker who assists the police with their investigations, helping to solve cases and move spirits to the other side. In this particular book, Madame Chalamet helps the Duke de Archambeau solve the murder of the king’s cousin. I could not tell where and when the setting was, but it was definitely a period-style piece. The characters were very well developed, but the duke confused me at times (I couldn’t tell what he really wanted in the story). It was very fast paced, easy to read, and comical at times. Overall, this was a great story, and I cannot wait to find out what Madame Chalamet goes through in the next story. I am on to Delicious Death now!

Elinor Chalamet’s talent to speak with the dead may have landed her in the soup.
Witty and clever, Elinor uses her mediumship skills to hunt for her father’s killer. So when a body in the canal brings her to the morgue, she’s happy to help until Tristan Fontaine, the Duke de Archambeau, takes over the case and places her under house arrest.
Between possessions and poltergeists, she’ll solve the case even if it means putting the duke in his place. Actually, that part of the investigation may be a pleasure!
Welcome to Alenbonne, a coastal city with picturesque promenades along the canals and where the ghosts never sleep. A country where spirits and murder are just a breath away.

Spirit Guide (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries #3)Spirit Guide by Byrd Nash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars

Spirit Guide is the third book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series by Byrd Nash. This brings us another intriguing instalment in this captivating Gaslamp fantasy series. It is a paranormal cozy mystery with crime & investigation, sleuthing, ghosts, history, a moody atmosphere, intrigue, adventure, some humour, witty dialogue, slow-burn romance, dramatic developments, and interesting characters.
I have loved this series from the beginning, so there was never any doubt that I would be reading this new instalment as soon as it released.
Elinor Chalamet uses her mediumship skills to help solve puzzling mysteries. This instalment builds on the previous two books, providing a bigger picture as the mystery unfolds- also learning a lot more about Elinore along the way.
Our female ‘Sherlock Holmes’ is on the case tackling a mystery with:
Missing girls.
A mysterious séance.
Ghosts that become ‘real’.
A bumbling apprentice.
Secrets.
And a connection to her past.
It all leads to an intriguing, cleverly woven, fun little historical whodunnit mystery.
As with the other two books, it is fresh, and fun- with a period setting, wonderful characters, and a moody feel- which gives the whole story added intrigue.
This is a six-part novella series (with 3 more book yet to come):
The series consists of:
-Ghost Talker (Book #1)
-Delicious Death (Book #2)
-Spirit Guide (Book #3)
-Gray Lady (Book #4) – still to be released
-Underground Haunt (Book #5) – still to be released
-Ghastly Mistake (Book #6) – still to be released
I am looking forward to seeing what Elinor gets up to in the next book/s.
Bring on Book #4!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Byrd Nash!

Delicious Death (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 2) by Byrd Nash – Review by Jamie Burns

Delicious Death is the second book in a six part novella series called Madame Chalamet by Byrd Nash. This book took me back to my roots of loving mysteries! Nash has created a wonderful series so far with captivating characters that readers love. Elinor is by far my newest favorite sleuth-ghost whisperer- who is balancing the food competition and trying to help a lady in distress. One cannot forget that there’s an assassin who is out to cause harm. Nash has a wonderful knack for keeping the reader at the edge of their seat in anticipation about what will happen next. I am looking forward to reading the third book in this series.

Sadly, I had to read the 2nd part of Byrd Nash’s novel. I have to say this is different from my other likes of mystery and murder crimes. Elinor is a medium who finally took a break from solving crime and ended up with another solving crime in which a King is a target. Funny is that the chef is the one that is the problem and using food to kill the King.
I recommended this to my teen kids who love to a good mystery book.

The second book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries set, fully composed of six books. Elinor Chalamet, crime fighting medium, returns for another round of ghost banter and mischief. I would recommend reading book 1 (Ghost Talker) before this one, as it builds on previous character development and helps to establish the momentum into Delicious Death. I really enjoyed that the story continues, but is not dragged out extensively. We find ourselves in a new location with a whole different array of ghosts and characters, and of course dilemmas to deal with! I did find this book to be a change of pace from book one, and a LITTLE slower, but still a fast and easy read that I highly enjoyed. Byrd Nash knows how to engage the reader and keep the pages turning, and I am looking forward to the next one.

I have loved Byrd Nash. I make sure I follow her books. This story has a strong female central lead, it is always enjoyable when an author projects a strong female lead in 1800s with eccentric qualities. Elinor has a penchant towards ghost talking. She befriends another eccentric woman , who is a doctor. In the winter feast. There is an attempt to murder the king. There is a duke who is equally interested in solving this mystery. The forbidden romance brews between Elinor and the Duke. Social restrictions follow.
What not to like about it, nothing . Overall a very enjoyable read.

Elinor is trying to have herself a good holiday when she finds that someone has targeted the king. Duke de Archambeau is also on the case and feels he can solve this mystery before Elinor. She’s being kept busy with other paranormal happenings as well but she is determined to find who is behind the plot against the king. The pace of this book was a little quick, however it never makes you feel like you’re missing out on any part of the story. The author does a great job building onto the story and the characters from the first installment. If you like paranormal crime and mystery this would be a great book to read.
