Night Hawke (The Hawke Family Second Generation Prequel) by Gwyn McNamee – Review by Tanya Wall, January 2023

Night Hawke (The Hawke Family Second Generation #0.5)Night Hawke by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a prequel to the Hawke Family books. Warning- it is a very steamy book…wow! We meet Issac, who has just graduated from law school and will join the family business in New Orleans and the beautiful red head named “Jack.” They meet up at a bar and go spend two nights in the throws of steamy escapades… they are both sad to leave each other in the end. If you like books with lots of sex and action, this book is for you. While this type of genre is not my go to read, I kind of want to read on in the series to see how their relationship grows.

Underboss’s Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2) by Via Mari – Review by Angela Shirley

Underboss's Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2)Underboss’s Retaliation by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dominic is on high alert from the attack at the casino and when Salvatore issues the order to go and seek revenge he is more than happy to attack De Rosa’s house and grab the only thing that is dear to De Rosa’s heart his daughter as a bargaining chip, but all hell breaks loose and he has his hands full.

Emelia has been taught well for this day, as a mafia princess she knows that she is always on alert and can easily be taken to use against the family, so when she was hiding in the tunnels trying to not to be found but when the dark eyes meet hers, she is in trouble.

Dominic has Emelia as a pawn in this game of power but she is not easy, a hellcat who is trying to escape at every turn but something shifts and Dom starts being drawn to Emelia knowing that the relationship is forbidden and could get them both killed. Can they keep what they have hidden long enough so Dom and Emelia explain.

I loved the first book in this series and this book does not disappoint, the story picks up just after the first book ends and the families are at war with each other. I love the character of Emelia as she is cast at first as the helpless Mafia Princess but as the story goes on you get to see the sheer determination of her character and the strong female role model you want in a book like this. She is equal to Dom and he treats her with the respect as an equal also which is wonderful to read.

The story is full of revelations of both families and how the next generation of the Larussio’s are planning to lead the family. The chemistry between the two jumps off the page and is a great dynamic to read through the adventures of both, with a twist at the end I could not stop reading this book and read it in one sitting.

I can’t wait for Lorenzo’s story as he is a quiet character in the other books, I have a feeling he is deadly under the covers.

This was a great 5 star read. This prequel pulled me in right from the beginning and I can’t wait for the next book. The author does a great job of introducing us to Issac and Jack. They didn’t plan to have anything beyond their couple of days together but things quickly changed. Issac can’t get her out of his mind. Will he be able to convince her to give their connection a try? Will it delay his obligations to his family? I loved this prequel, enjoyed seeing how these two get started and look forward to reading more from them. Bonus is that its currently free on Amazon. 1-click and get started today.

Underboss’s Retaliation: Dark Mafia Romance (Sicilian Gods Book 2)

I am completely obsessed with the Larussio family. This is a long time obsession and it isn’t getting any better.

Dominic Larussio is dangerous in so many different ways and we see how dangerous he can be to his enemies and to his loved ones.

Emelia is exactly what Dominic needed without either of them realizing it. She is a spitfire and doesn’t go down without a fight.

I am a longtime fan of this author and with each book she gets better and better. I can’t wait to see who falls next and what kind of trouble finds them.

This book was so mesmerizing that I immediately read the second book in this series (Underboss’s Retaliation). I love romance, I love mafia and what better than to put the two together in a riveting series?! I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the next reveal because I could not guess the next turn of events for the majority of the book (which I love!). As with any other mafia concept, there’s revenge, death, masterminding, and romance. This is a must read and will leave you yearning for the next one.

I feel that this is a mafia version of Romeo and Juliet; two lovers from enemy families who shouldn’t be infatuated with each other, but are. The title gives the premise away, and the underboss’s pawn in the grand scheme ends up being exactly what he’s always wanted. Emelia isn’t to be shoveled under a rug though, she’s ferocious and can certainly hold her own in a world ran by overbearing men. I love the Larussio family and will continue to be a reader of this series!

Wow!! Where does one start? You should know that this ends on a big ol’honkin’ cliffhanger! But it is so worth it. The chemistry between “Nolan” and Jack is straight up dripping off every page. They bring the heat and the steam. I can only imagine what it will be like when these two meet in some future boardroom or courtroom and the action between them is just as hot as the “action” between them. Can everyone see my eyebrows going up and down when I say that? Since this is just the beginning, I know that this series is going to be a helluva ride! Can’t wait!! Ah-maze-zing start to this 2nd generation!!

Underboss’s Retaliation was even better than Boss’s Vendetta. Dominic Larussio finds himself in close quarters with Emelia. The De Rosa’s mafia princess. She is 100% a “wildcat” and entirely badass. Their banter was incredibly entertaining and Emelia’s way she never stops fighting or getting under Dominic’s skin is brilliant. While this is book 2 in The Sicilian Gods series, it can be read as a standalone.

What a great start to the Hawke Family Second Generation. Isaac Hawke has finished college, so before he leaves. He takes the weekend to have a little fun. Jack is out for a night of uncontrolled fun as well. Her night goes deeper than one night, it goes for the whole weekend. She has to return home before the family hunts her down. Two people, two fake names, two opposite ideas come together as a weekend of absolute hotness. This is a second generation series. You can start this one without reading the first generation. To be honest, start with the first series. But… Read this prequel to see where you end up. I for one had already finished the first series. Second generation picks up where Night Hawke left off. This Author has written her books with readers in mind. Her books grab you at the very beginning and keep you there. The hotness of the characters is extremely steamy. Everyday college students are about to make it into the adult world. So I will give you no Spoilers…. This is a must read short story into a series of The Hawke family.

Underboss's Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2)Underboss’s Retaliation by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 2nd book in the Sicilian Gods series, another spin off series including the Larussio family. I have loved every single thing that this author has written until now and this was no different. I devoured this book and loved every second of it. Each book can technically be read as a standalone but I think you’d get more enjoyment if you read the first book before this one. As both are such brilliant books, it will be no hard ship to read both.
In this book we get the story of Dominic Larussio, underboss to Salvatore from the first book. In retaliation for an incident in book 1, Dominic kidnaps Emelia De Rosa, daughter of their enemy. But what happens when sparks fly between the 2 and the chemistry is off the charts?
I absolutely adored Dominic and Emelia’s story. I was totally gripped from the very beginning and this book just didn’t let me go until the very end. In fact, I’m not sure it has let me go yet. The drama, danger and intrigue really make for an extremely entertaining read.
I would 100% recommend this book and any of this author’s books.

This is a spicy novella and a prequel to the series Hawke family series. Each chapter is from a different characters’ point of view. It’s definitely a heated, spicy one night stand story. We don’t learn much about the background of the main characters or where the story is headed. The ending is a cliff hanger and you’ll have to read the next book to know what happens.

This books pick up on right where book 1 ends off but can be read as a stand alone. You don’t feel you miss too much.

This books follows newly promoted underboss Dominic who kidnaps Emilia, the rivals daughter. Emilia is a incredibly strong and independent woman. A line is crossed that they are not sure they can come back from.

As with book one I enjoyed the story but the repetitiveness is a bit much. I can only read capiche before it gets really old.

Underboss’s Retaliation is the second book in the series that flows seamlessly from the first book, Boss’s Vendetta. I love how the story goes from Salvatore’s story (the first book) to Dominic’s point of view. There are always multiple events going on to keep you on your toes. The main characters are dealing with their own issues and need to figure it out, this will keep you anticipating what’s going to happen next.

I’m obsessed with romance mafia stories! I knew I was going to love this after reading the blurb and I’m SO glad I read it. Falling for your enemies daughter? YES PLEASE. The suspense, the action as well as romantic? SIGN ME UP. Dominic is the new underboss and he captures Emilia for revenge. Enemies to lovers is my FAVORITE trope so this book is 10 stars for me. The characters are phenomenal, the story is great. I couldn’t put this book down and I never wanted it to end. SO. DAMN. GOOD.

Hot Hot Hot! Hot and steamy this is a great book, 100% worth the read. A can’t put down book complete with lots of sexy scenes and an internal monologue between the main characters. I mean come on one night with no names who isn’t going to scoop that up, but can it only end with one night. Short and easy to read will keep you longing for more.

Salvatore is your mafia leader, focused on his family and the family business. After an attack on his family he has to make some tough calls to keep everyone safe and make sure everyone knows no one messes with the Larussio family. Adrianna is a doctor working at the Larussio resort and wants to find out which member of the Larussio family killer her father.

The story was interesting, there was conflict, drama, passion and tons of emotions but some of the language was repetitive, and the way some of the drama unfolded didn’t sit right with me.

Overall would still recommend and will be looking at reading the next book.

Night Hawke is a prequel to the Hawke Family Second Generation series. I have not read any of the others and it didn’t seem to matter. The author did a really good job of giving you just enough information to draw you in and keep you wanting more. The book was a little steamy for my liking. While I want to say that I won’t read anymore, that’s probably a lie. I’m pretty drawn in and want to know who these characters really are. So I will likely skim over those particular scenes, so I can continue the story. Both characters use fake names and very little detail is given about their lives. It is hinted at them both coming from pretty important families, and I want to know more about “Jack.” In reading the description of the next book, it makes me want to know that much more!

This is the second book in the Sicilian Gods series by author Via Mari. I was so excited when Underboss’s Retaliation finally came out. After reading the first I couldn’t wait for it to drop to see what was going to happen in the Larussio family next. And boy oh boy the author did not disappoint, it was just as good as the first one if not better. Emelia and Dominic are probably my favorite thus far ( saving judgment til the rest of the series come lmao) butas everyone knows i’m a sucker for strong females and enemies to lovers stories. Also the mafia genre books have become my favorite lately. I’m literally sitting on the edge of my seat for the next one. Via Mari you truly have a gift for writing and keep it up.

This book is another successful addition to a series that is clearly shaping up to be amazing. I am always blown away by how easily I get into one of these books, the storyline and the characters. The author weaves the two together in such an effortless way that I cannot help but be drawn in.
This book picks up where the previous one leaves off so I would recommend reading them in order. However, this can be read as a standalone without too much being missed. Via Mari has easily become one of my go to authors and this book is a great example of why. It is so easy to read her books as it feels like the pages turn themselves. This book was fantastic. I loved the ferocity of Emelia. She is not one mafia princess that I would mess with. Best book of the series so far!!!

Emelia knew she was in danger when her father told her and her brother to flee. When she was found Emelia thought it was the end. Little did she know it was just the beginning.

Dominic was a vicious soldier and knew what he needed to do. Dominic thought he was lucky to capture the two youngest DeRosa children. He knew his Don would be pleased, they would have the edge. But things never go to plan. Not only that, a strange protective instinct when it comes to Emelia has blossomed. Dominic will do what he has to do to save his family but will that cost him his new obsession, Emelia?

I loved the action, the banter, the tenderness Dom shows, the cunning Emelia possesses and all of it. Emelia is badass!!! I absolutely despise what happened to Leo. My heart ached for Emelia. I can’t wait for the wedding!! Totally loving this series!!

I hate cliffhangers but knowing this is a prequel I was prepared for it, and I absolutely cannot wait to read more of “Jack” and “Nolan’s” story! Jack and Nolan meet in a dive bar, somewhere Jack doesn’t look like she belongs. Things turn hot fast and neither seems to want to deny or admit what they are feeling, after all it was only supposed to be one night. Underboss’s Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2) by Via Mari – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Underboss's Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2)Underboss’s Retaliation by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Underboss’s Retaliation is a dark mafia romance about enemy families. Dominic is the new underboss of the Larussio family. The Larussio family is trying to retaliate against the De Rosa family ever since they attacked and killed a handful of people from their family at a wedding. While Dominic is getting his revenge on the De Rosa’s, they capture the boss’s daughter. Emelia De Rosa is an educated female, but very much hidden from the work of her father’s life. She was taught how to somewhat protect herself, but not enough. She is feisty, and Dominic is highly attracted to that. While she tries to escape, she realizes that she is highly attracted to Dominic as well. The two of them know that this match can not happen, but can they resist each other? What does this mean for Emelia – she is the prisoner and the enemy’s daughter?
I enjoyed this book very much. I love a good dark mafia romance, enemies-to-lovers trope. I thought the story was quickly moving which kept my interest. The main characters were also loveable, even Dominic. Dominic is demanding, strong, and a little possessive, but also has respect for women. He shows a lot of honesty in her presence when he can. This mafia family takes care of their own which allows Emelia to feel pretty safe, even when she shouldn’t. Emelia is a great character. She is feisty, smart, and witty, but also very understanding. She also shows how much family means to her and that she too is willing to protect family, if they are deserving of it. This is the second of the series that I have read and probably will continue to follow the story.
