A fun read about finding the perfect match! I found the main character Bree entertaining and really enjoyed her character growth over the course of the book. A great mix of sweet, fun, drama and humour- to me, this is the perfect light hearted rom com style romance to enjoy with a cup of tea.

Bree has had her fair share of bad dates, wrong men and is just fed up with the whole dating scene. So, she makes a pledge with herself to not date JOCKS, no dating any athletes in general but while this is on the cards, she is now looking for the perfect mister right if he ever exists.

Nate is the perfect guy for Bree only he is a tennis coach, and he is in the friend’s category, but as time goes on, she starts to see him more than a friend and can she give in to the attraction and find the perfect one.

This is the first story I have read by this author and found it joyful and an easy read, the story was well written and flowed brilliantly. The book takes on the narrative of the main character Bree and meanders through her failed relationships and various rules she has for dating until she starts to grow closer to Nate. The story delves into different cultures and ethnicity and with the clever insight has thought provoking quotes.

The chemistry for the two main characters was jumping off the page and I when they finally realise, they are meant to be together you certainly get a glow inside. This is a stand-alone story and I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.

As Close to Perfect is a well written Romance story that once you start reading you won’t want to stop until you’ve finished. This is a fairly new author to me and I look forward to seeing what other books she has written. I enjoyed this book and the characters are relatable and fully developed Her style of writing and attention to detail and her ability to pull you in and keep your attention until the end is amazing. Bree has a few rules she goes by when it comes to dating. She’s been burned on the past and one of her rules she doesn’t date Jocks, or athletic type. She’s a school teacher and basketball coach and also plays tennis. She’s met several guys but none of them meet her requirements until Steven. She’s hesitant at first but the more they get to know one another the more she thinks hes the perfect match for her. That is until she sees a different side of him. Then there’s Nate and he’s been there for her and she’s not been to nice to him. Who will Bree choose? Will she follow her heart ? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

I seriously struggled to get into this book. Normally when I start a book it keeps my attention, even if it takes me a bit to get into it. This book didn’t keep my attention at all. I never like to give a negative review, but I want to always be honest, too. Bree was relatable in the things that she had been through with past relationships, but I felt like she dwelled on them too much. Nate was very intense, and if I had been her I would have tried to be nice but get my point across a little clearer than she did. I tried really hard to get into this book and desperately wanted to love it, but I didn’t it wasn’t completely horrible by any means, just not a favorite.

I adored this book. Folklore and Mythology are some of my top genres to read, and this paranormal mystery/budding romance was quite the addition to my reading journey. The suspense was page-turning, or in my case, with my kindle, page tapping. I can’t really go into too much detail, or else I fear I will give to much away, but our main character Avery is a sweetheart, both strong and daring. Her neighbor, Luys is swoon-worthy. Avery is stuck between surviving both physically and emotionally. Lovers of suspense, thrillers, mystery, paranormal, and romance will all love this book. 4 out of 5 stars.

A Long Kiss Goodbye (Onyx & Mercury Book 2) by H.D. Thomson – Review by Shea D. Gilkerson

A Long Kiss GoodbyeA Long Kiss Goodbye by H.D. Thomson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Avery, in an effort to relax a bit, joined friends for drinks one evening. As she walks home afterwards, she finds herself attacked. When she wakes up in the morning, she can’t remember anything and searches for clues. A horrible discovery leads her to head to the hospital, but her problem is severe enough it makes her weak and dizzy. Her stoic neighbor Luys notes her distress and takes her to the ER. After a thorough check up, it appears that beyond her injuries she is completely healthy. It baffles Avery who would harm and traumatize her so seriously and she has to find out what happened.

In the course of this story, Avery and Luys reluctantly continue to keep track of each other thanks to their attraction to the other. When Luys discovers Avery knows his sister, Mayor, and exactly what her injuries included he knows he has to protect her and help her discover who hurt her.

The storyline for this book is one I haven’t heard of before, so it was a nice original twist. I continued to read because I was curious what nugget of information would be included next. After finishing it, I realized there are several little hints and tidbits scattered through the book that gave you the potential of picking up on some twists and turns ahead of time, but they were subtle enough that even if you notice them, it isn’t to really point you in any special direction. While this is book 2 in a series, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything that would help me better understand the direction of the story – but after reading the synopsis on book 1, I’d like to read it and learn more about Gabriel and family.

Well this book took a turn I was not really expecting. This paranormal suspense started with a “normal” girl named Avery who starts to find herself in a very strange assault. On her way home from the bar one night she is attacked, but when she wakes up she can’t remember anything. She finds herself getting to the hospital with the aid of her neighbor Luys. What they find is very mysterious, nothing is wrong except for this crazy stitch work on her chest. As the story progresses, she and Luys build a connection, but both are going through different strangeness in their life. She is not sure who she can trust or not as she tries to figure out what happened to her and why there is a string of murders so close to home. The police warn her against Luys, Luys warns her against the woman Avery is friends with, and the circle continues. What happened to her, how is Luys related to all of this, and what does it mean for her future?
As a whole I thought this book was pretty good. It definitely took on a new spin on the paranormal romance suspense genre which I was thankful for. I loved Luys, he was sweet, caring, and seemed genuinely like a nice person. Avery, I didn’t not like her, but there were times I would find myself saying ‘girl you have got to be kidding me’. However, in the end, I did love her more after she started to fight for Luys a little more. One thing I wish was a little different was how the chapters were labeled. There were many times I started reading a new page or chapter and had no idea which character perspective I was reading from till the end of the page. There are many characters playing important roles in the story so maybe if she let us know who was speaking from the start I wouldn’t have had to pause and think about what they were saying or where the story was trying to go.

O.M.G. what a great read this book is. The paranormal take with the true crime involved. I didn’t realize it when I downloaded it that it was book 2. I immediately went and read book 1 once I finished book 2. I am for sure now following and reading anything from this author.

I wasn’t expecting the twist in the last few chapters and I loved that it kept me intrigued and made it hard to put down. I loved how Avery and Luys were so opposite in the first half of the book. I immediately fell in love with Avery and was hoping the ending would be how it was for her.

I am off to download some more from this author as I felt like I was reading a true crime from a TV show or something. It was easy to follow and once I was halfway through, thought I had figured it out. You know how you do with crime TV shows…. then the twist and I was shocked! I loved it and how it was written out.

I’ve only read probably 2 or 3 paranormal romances including this one. This is book 2 in a series, but it’s a complete stand alone. This was my first book by this author and I did enjoy it! The beginning does a good job about pulling you in! I was absolutely interested in finding out how Avery was attacked and that in itself was enough to keep me reading. This story continued to keep my attention throughout every chapter! I’m going to go back and read the first book because this book was so good.

A Long Kiss Goodbye is the first book that I have read by this author and it won’t be my last. It was a dark suspenseful read that I wasn’t expecting to like as much as I did. The twists and extremely unexpected turns had me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t want to put this one down. It was very fast paced and I enjoyed the main characters. They were intriguing but man oh man did they have such huge secrets. I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future!!

I only have one thing to say about this book, and that is why oh why have I not read this author before now? This book absolutely blew me away, I just couldn’t stop devoring it’s pages. Full of paranormal romance, twists, mystery, and of course a suspenseful intense storyline this book has it all. While this is the second book in the series it can be read as a standalone. But trust me once you read this one, you’ll want to go back and read this first one, I know I do!

A Long Kiss Goodbye: A Romantic Paranormal Suspense (Onyx & Mercury #2) by H.D. Thomson

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. A Long Kiss Goodbye is an amazing read. This is the second book in the Onyx and Mercury Series. I have not read the first book in the series, but I will be looking for it.

Avery is attacked and then the murders start to happen. She doesn’t want to leave her house. She doesn’t know who to trust. She can’t trust friends, neighbors, family, or cops. The quote I chose for Avery is: “I promised myself I wouldn’t complain. Compared to my last job, they offer far better insurance, which kicks in next month. But it’s going to be challenging. I won’t lie. I’m just going to have to learn to compartmentalize better than I ever have being a social worker. I can’t let my clients’ lives emotionally cripple me. Otherwise, I won’t be a help to anyone.”

Luys knows Avery as he’s her neighbor and they’re friendly. He knows that she’s been attacked and can’t help but seem to be protective. The quote I chose for Luys is: “Yes, I can see that. I’m glad I didn’t listen to you and brought over some to-go meals from a nearby restaurant the last couple of days. Orange juice and eggs. Not sure I can whip anything up with that. I guess I could fix you an omelet with egg as your only ingredient.”

Highly recommended for Paranormal Romantic Suspense lovers.

Before I even tell you about how this read blew me out the water I just wanted to honour the author and say thank for your dedication to those with ADHD , I appreciate you ❤️

So back to the task at hand …. I started this read and couldn’t put it down and once I did put it down I immediately went and one clicked the previous 2 ❤️📕

London went through a dark patch in life and it’s that dark time she met True and together they had the most intense and memorable week but their paths parted after that so I can imagine the shock when they meet up again under very different circumstances….

There were funny moments and some seriously tense moments but every page of this read was a sensory treat ! A definite read to shout from the rooftops !

This book was more than I expected. Expecting just a standard thriller, the story we got was even better. Luys and Avery are neighbors that barely know each other. It seems Luys is a grumpy neighbor who doesn’t want to be bothered. After Avery is attacked, Luys helps her and the story takes off. I found both characters very likable and I enjoyed watching their story unfold and rooting for them. They had wonderful chemistry together and I found myself wanting them to get together instantly. The book is well-paced and has excellent action-type sequences. The protagonist reacts to things just as you would expect them to. The book had a satisfying ending while also leaving room for more books. I greatly enjoyed this book.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thorfinn and the Witch’s Curse is the first book in The Forerunner Saga by Jay Veloso Batista. It was a historical fantasy book. I was pulled into the story from the first page until the last page. I felt as if I was right in the thick of the story with the characters. The book includes ghosts and Vikings. The storyline has adventure, history, Norse mythology, and paranormal elements. The attention to detail is what held my attention. The story is about Finn, who starts the story as a normal boy. He is a part of the Viking Kingdoms in England. There was a witch’s curse that becomes Finn’s fate. He is by day a boy and a ghost at night. Finn has an adventure in his future. I highly recommend this book to follow Finn’s adventure.

I loved the twists and turns in the story! I loved London as well, she was a great character and a definitely match for True! The chemistry between the two of them was off the charts and I was secretly rooting for them!!

Lois has given kids another Mermaid story that is more than a simple tale. It is also a teaching tale. It is showing some of the science of water and ice. It is appropriate for children between 4 – 8 years. It is also a story of friendship. The pictures and the story are colourful, entertaining and imaginative.

It is a fun read with a floating ice cube necklace but is it really floating? Could it be Maia’s “imaginary friend?”

Gah! I can’t get over the cuteness of this book. It follows two students with a fantastic librarian on a journey of wonder! They HAVE to save the school, and even world, from the aliens threatening to invade!

The best I could describe this book is whimsical! It is such a perfectly woven book for children. It made me remember why I use to love running to the school’s library every Friday afternoon! Even though I didn’t read it as a child, it felt nostalgic nonetheless. I’m really excited for the day I can share this book with my own children!

Anne’s very dedicated to her work to keep drugs off the streets. She’s organizing this huge event that will help to teach kids alternatives to a life of drugs and addiction. It’s after a doctor’s appointment and finding out that she needs to start taking B12 shots that she doesn’t feel well.

Grant and Josh are DEA agents assigned to this case to try to bring down this drug lord. Grant’s super interested because Anne is one of his closest friends. Grant’s former partner, Greg, is engaged to Anne, adding yet another layer of importance.

Becker is the drug lord of the past but has this person resurfaced again? Did they ever really go away? It’s up to Grant and Josh to get all of this figured out and before anyone else becomes addicted to this drug kronilan.

Premeditated was gripping from the start! I only put it down once and that was difficult! The characters and the story is very relatable, yet very scary. This is a very clean, inspirational read that does quote some scripture and has religious themes throughout. I appreciate this author writing such a gripping novel in a way that doesn’t make me cringe with horrible language!

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced crime thriller, which had me hooked from start to finish. Anti-drug activists are being targeted by someone using the very substance they fight against. DEA Agents Grant Rourke and Josh McKenzie are assigned the case, and need to discover who’s behind this string of drug-related crimes, and make sure that the fatal doses of ‘kronilan’ are taken off the streets. However, the person behind the ‘kronilan’ distribution starts targeting the Agents family and friends, including Anne, the fiancé of Grant’s ex-partner and former DEA Agent, Greg Nelson. Grant and Josh need to find the culprit before it’s too late. This was a real page turner and the exciting storyline, along with the likeable and relatable characters kept me happily turning the pages. The plot twists kept me gripped and guessing until the end. I am keen to read the previous book in the same series now.

The plot is interesting if not at times a little predictable but that’s not a bad thing. As this is the second book by Susanna, I am sure each book will get better. There are twists and turns that add to the suspense to the story.

This was a really interesting crime story. The author does a great job making the story scarily realistic and has you thinking about what if it were to really happen. The characters were well written too. Love the relationship between our 2 agents Grant and Josh.
This story is fast paced and starts very quickly when someone dies. Is it just a diabetic coma is has something more sinister happened.
As our agents start to unravel this case they uncover the fact that the victims are all against drug abuse and are trying to clamp down on it. Which of course if drugs is your line of work you don’t want that.
With anti-drug activists being targeted Grant and Josh know they are on a race against time to stop anyone else getting hurt and when it turns personal with an ex agents fiancee being targeted the stakes get even higher.
This is a gripping story that will shock you and having questioning and wondering right up to the end.

This book was literally a thrill ride from start to finish. The book a lot to the table I found, and I simply loved every minute of my reading. I was hooked really right from the introduction; this book was amazing, and it had the right amount of suspense to keep you hooked as you read.
Grant and Josh were an awesome team to say the least. I loved how their minds worked together, even when they did not see truly eye to eye with one another. I found my guessing abilities were not working as I read, the book really spoke for itself. The danger and excitement it brought to me, was freaking amazing. I loved this book so much, and I will be for sure reading more by this wonderful author.
