Original and compelling, the author draws readers into a rich tapestry that is quite skillfully woven. The main character is mentioned in the title. Various strands of the story come together beautifully. Rich in detail, this is a must-read: readers are entertained, as well as enlightened. I can hardly wait for the sequel!

Welcome to a viking ghost story you won’t be able to put down!!!

Thorfinn, a 9 year old boy is living under a curse. The curse was caused by his grandfather, who during a raid, killed a witch and she cursed 3 generations of their family.
“finn” who had been practicing his sparring, doing his chores and running after his brothers suddenly finds himself thrust into an entirely new world…and a new… existence by night!

Finn will have to come to terms with who and what he is and overcome fear, his young age and a family curse.

This book is colorful imaginative and descriptive. The glossary in the back is very helpful to keep characters straight as this is multi POV.

Thorfinn Agneson is a young boy of ten and he lives in the time of the Vikings, in the ninth century and he lives under the Danelaw and life is good, he spends his time training and doing chores with his brothers, spending time playing with his younger sister, teasing the older residents at his home and at night hearing tales of his ancestors and his heritage, as well as some other tales family members bring home on their travels, his father is also organising and apprenticeship for him, as well as planning for a large wedding. Meanwhile, his Uncle is travelling back home after voyaging for a long time, but his journey isn’t all smooth sailing as he meets some characters along the way and these are both friend and foe.

One day, Thorfinn and his brothers overhear a story about a curse and someone tells them where it takes place, so as a group, the young boys in the homestead decide to go on an adventure, however, they encounter something mysterious, but none of the boys understand it’s consequences until it is almost too late. They decide that they have to remedy their mistake and so go to confront the mysterious shadow and the witch whom they find controls this, however, as one of the brothers attack the fiends, the witch retaliates and attacks Thorfinn, but what he doesn’t realise until the next day is that it is not his body which has returned home.

As Thorfinn is battling the witch, his uncle is facing his fair share of foes including a shape shifting warrior and his pack of wolves, he also encounters a seer on a deserted island and others as he travels towards home. Thorfinn now has to learn what the witch’s curse has done to him and what this means for his life, so when it is explained that he is now a Vardoger and that his ghost will travel ahead of as a forerunner, he now has to learn about this new realm and the perils within it, there are advantages to this, such as overhearing conversations and learning about a world once hidden.

Will Thorfinn be able to master his new split life, both as a young boy in Midgard, as well as a ghost at night, will he be able to use his new skills to remove the witch’s curse as the threat they command lingers over the homestead? Will his Uncle return safely home and be able to spend time with his much missed family? This is a historical fiction filled with stories of the Viking life at the time, as well as a fantasy adventure weaved throughout which will keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting to know what will happen next as the twists and turns play out over the pages.

Lonny and True have great chemistry, and I love the plot. The author’s writing style is also great. I found characters very believable. Really good job with the ADHD symptoms. I did struggle with the games they played with each other. Just lessens the romance to me. Otherwise, a great read!

The True Garza was a very entertaining read. I enjoyed the chemistry between True and Lonny. I definitely enjoyed the parts with True more. I, unfortunately, found Lonny to be unlikeable and a hypocrite. I really can’t fathom why anyone would fall in love with her. That being said, I adored True and Lexi. I even liked Trent’s grumpy self. Some of True’s actions left me confused at first but it wasn’t difficult to catch on to why he did the things he did. The book is definitely steamy and fun. It was quite the page-turner.

The True Garza is the third book in the Red Cage series by S. Ann Cole. I had never read any of this author’s work before- but was won over by the enticing blurb. So I happily one-clicked a copy for myself and dove right in. I immediately knew I was going to love this book- and I am so excited to have found another author to add to my ‘must-read’ list.
Even though this is the third book in the series, it can definitely be read as a standalone, but my curiosity is well and truly piqued- I will definitely be going back to read the first two books in the series to ‘meet’ those characters in more detail- before continuing with the rest of the series.
This was a brilliant romantic suspense with action, chemistry, sizzle, tension, danger, intrigue, suspense, mystery, dramatic developments, and so much more. I was hooked right from the beginning and didn’t put the story down until I had read every single word.
I loved True and Lonny, even if there were times I wanted to shake True out of sheer frustration. I love the whole Garza gang and can’t wait to read the rest of the series so I can get to know them better.
Happy reading!

Thank you, S. Ann Cole!

Such a cute little childrens story! Imagination, curiosity, and a little science lesson on the properties of water thrown in too. Kids will learn without realizing that they’re learning. Great illustrations…very vivid and appropriate to the story’s dialogue. Would definitely recommend this book to parents and children alike. Also would be great for a science teacher to have in the classroom!

This was a great little story about Maia and Fig who are having a picnic by the lake. As they are enjoying their lunch, a mermaid friend named Trezzie pops up and is entranced by all the ice in their lemonade and thinks they are so sparkly. Trezzie asks if they could make her a necklace out of the ice. Maia starts to make her necklace by blowing into a straw at the center of the ice (Fig is not able to see Trezzie). Once the necklace is made Fig sees the necklace just floating there and jumps in to chase it. Fig starts to drown and Trezzie and her necklace save her. Fig didn’t believe Trezzie was real but may be changing her mind!! This book was a really cute book that blended science and imagination together. One of the best ways to get kids learning is through fun innovation and this book was able to do that.

I do not have small children any longer, however I have found this series to be amazing in several ways. My first love is the way this author tells such a cute fantasy story and yet finds a way to fit science facts into the narrative. Not only are the characters inclusive, interesting and critical thinkers but they are also fun, engaging and charming. Your kids will get a kick out of the whole gang and as a parent you will get a kick out of the fun science facts they learn that make them want to blow holes in ice cubes to make an ice cube necklace. These books really are a great way to start teaching your kids science and for them to beg you to learn more with the next mermaid story.

I LOVE a book that children can learn from. This Science adventure does just that. The story line, as well as the activities set the stage for good wet fun. Maia is picnicking with Fig, down by the lake. When along swims Trezzie the mermaid. Trezzie loves the sparkle of the ice cubes. So Maia and Fig put a hole in the cube and string it into a necklace, for Trezzie. Feelings are hurt and leg cramps are active, as these girls work together. This author wrote what I call an open ended book. Meaning it’s more than just a story. So get out those ice cubes and have some good wet reading fun. I recommend this story to parents, children and teachers. This was a nice summer story as well, picnic, playing at the lake, and crafting all in a day’s fun adventure.

Mermaid and the Ice Cube Necklace the latest instalment in the Mermaid Science series by Lois Wickstrom. It is a bright, colourful, interesting, educational, and entertaining children’s story that takes the reader on a cute adventure, whilst also teaching and inspiring them to learn about science.
We meet back up with Maia, Fig, and mermaid Trezzie as they make a necklace out of ice cubes. These cute characters bring the story to life, while also imparting lessons along the way. The use of fantasy teamed with science, engages both imagination and learning. I think the story is a clever way to teach children about science and make it fun at the same time.

When I first started this book, I was unaware that there was a previous series that explained more of the back story of Chloe and Quintus’s relationship prior to the beginning of this book. As I read on, the information the author shared gave me a clear picture of the relationship and definitely made me want to read the original series to get even more information. The author was able to summarize and recap the previous book without it feeling like a recap or rehashing old information. When we meet Chloe, she is living a quiet life in the mortal realm with her family. She still has some access to magic, as she brought a book back from Fairie that helps her in her role as the apothecary, and her brother is a fae, who has masked himself to look like a mortal. She is trying to combat a strange illness that has broken out in her village, one that is similar to an illness she finds in her book from Fairie. As she is trying to save lives, Quintus arrives, demanding she return to Fairie to help the fae fight against the mortals who have attacked them, including her sister. Initially she refuses, she isn’t a fighter, she doesn’t like Quintus and distrusts his motives, and she has people to save from the illness. Unfortunately she realizes that the poison the mortals are using against the fae is poisoning Fairie and it has seeped into the mortal realm, making them extremely ill. If she wants to save her people in the mortal realm, she is going to have to go to Fairie and help fight against the mortals. Despite her physical attraction to Quintus, she doesn’t trust him and doesn’t like him. She just wants to save the fae and go home. Unfortunately the mortals are far more dangerous then she realized. . As they continue to work together and face new dangers, Chloe starts to recognize not only changes in herself, but in Quintus as well. As she starts to trust him further, she starts to realize that some of her core beliefs about herself might not be what she thought they were. The pacing of the story was excellent and the author did a great job of balancing the emotional scenes with action. I devoured the book in one sitting as I wanted to see how things ended. I can’t wait to continue the series and see how things will grow between Chloe and Quintus as they continue to fight for Fairie and the fae in it.

Flame and Crystal Thorns is the first book in Fae and Crystal Thorns Series and is a wonderfully written spin off of the Fae and Bitter Thorn Series. This is a author that I never hesitate to pick up a book by. Her style of writing along with amazing characters make for a epic story every time. This is a Fae/ Fantasy Romance that once I started reading I couldn’t stop. I read this in one afternoon I had to know what was going to happen next. This is a story about Chloe she’s very happy to be back in the mortal realm and has become the town apothecary. All is going well until someone from the past shows up begging her for help. Chloe finds out her sister is being held hostage so she of course packs a bag and off she goes. She quickly finds herself needing help because the Mortals are more powerful than she realized. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Boy, did this book start out and keep up the pace, all the way through. I do feel I would have been clearer on some things if I had read previous books from the series that included Nora. However, the descriptions are beautiful and engaging, the little blurbs about the background story help fill in enough of a gap of info to keep you invested and feeling included, and the mysteries the author calls on Nora and the reader to solve are excellent. What a good book! I’m interested in learning more about Nora, AJ and friends.

Nore is a new constable on the PD in the Cayman Islands, and living in a friends shack. On a normal day, normal patrol with her partner, she discovers a kidnapping and is chosen by a madman to be the pawn for his insane revenge plot. Racing the clock, Nora has to complete a series of difficult challenges to protect the victim.

Gripping, intense, suspenseful, with a lot of crazy twists and turns, Nora was an excellent lead character and an interesting POV here. Starting the AJ series now!

Cat has made the road trip with her family to see the family bakery and to (hopefully) figure out how to control her emotional baking. Instead of just sitting down and laying out the family history, CG creates a scavenger hunt that gives Cat and Robyn a more “hands on” approach. But, Cat is observant, and is noticing that there are lots of things not being said from different members of her family…and she is determined to figure it out. Turns out there is more going on than everyone is letting on.

I enjoyed the first book in the series and was happy to see Cat get some answers that will help her. This book is definitely written for a younger reader (maybe 10-14 years of age), but I still enjoyed it. And…there is a recipe at the end of each chapter that sounds super yummy!

I’m not sure if there’s anything more relatable than Brees initial thought of “never doing something again” because of previous results of said something. This type of romance novel isn’t what I normally read but I really liked this one. Not only was there depth to the MCs- Bree and Nate- but the secondary characters were wonderful as well! The MCs relationship developed so naturally- it was a joy to read and impossible to put down. This was my first book I have read from this author- and I am excited to expand my reading to more of their work! This was a very sweet romance that is sure to squeeze your heart. Glad I read it. (:
