I could not put this book down! This is a sequel so I recommend reading the first book before you pick this one up. It will help fill in some of the missing information. I absolutely love the way Laurie Lewis develops her characters and plot lines. I mean by the end of the book, I wasn’t sure who to trust! I really felt a connection with Tallie and the way Lewis writes her and her story just absolutely pulls at your heartstrings. This book is so fast-paced that I had a hard time putting it down because I just wanted to know what happened next! I love the independence Tallie has and her take-charge attitude. Again, this is a fantastic story…the plot is something that isn’t too far-fetched and the way Lewis writes it is just phenomenal.

I really love the simplicity and sing-songy nature of this book. It’s a great book for parents to read to their kids at bedtime. It would make a fantastic baby shower gift. The illustrations were magical and I loved the imagery of the passing of the wand throughout the book. Great book that definitely gets you right in the feels with all of the things we wish for our children.

The premise of this book is Caspian has to find a way to get a Frisbee out of a tree and while doing that (by putting on his Hot Chocolate Socks that his Grandpa gave him for his Unbirthday) he finds a kitten in the tree that continues to put itself in dangerous situations. Caspian follows the kitten to keep it out of trouble but in a startling turn of events, the kitten hops on the Frisbee and flies away. I understand the general concept of teaching children to problem-solve and use their imagination; however, this book takes too many leaps and bounds. I read this to my 6-year- old and they didn’t enjoy it as much as Wickstrom’s other books. I like the premise of the book, I just think that the events happen to fast or suddenly for them to make any sort of “sense” for the reader.
Maria DeBlassie has done a phenomenal job with this magical 😉 book! I absolutely love the way she has gone about providing the reader with information. Not only does she gently guide the reader on what they should do and why, but she also provides her own real, lived experiences to give the reader a sense of why we should listen to her. It’s not just a professor standing at the front of a classroom lecturing…she’s sitting down with the readers, having a conversation and providing experiences from her own life and saying, “Hey, this is what helped me when I was going through this and it might help you.” That’s what this book is like…having a conversation with DeBlassie. The other thing that she drives home over and over again is finding magic in the small and everyday and a lot of what we already do is magically. We just need to be more mindful and intentional with it to make it more meaningful. I 100% recommend this book to anyone (regardless of your religious beliefs) because you can apply it to your life. It’s about intentionality and making your life more magical. 🙂

This is the second book in the series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. The chemistry between Royce and Michelle is sizzling and the spice level is *chef’s kiss*. This was a quick read for me and I was hooked from the first chapter. I’m looking forward to the third installment in this series.

I want to start off saying that this is a YA book targeted for the YA audience. If you are looking for something darker or *spicier* this is not for you. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. It’s the first book in the Dragonpets series and I’m excited to read the others. I liked the premise of the book; however, I feel like the author could have flushed out Rilla’s and Vidar’s characters a bit more along with the plot line. Again, the premise is there and I think there’s a lot that can be done with what R.L.S. Hoff has set up. This was a very quick read for me at less than 200 pages. There are romantic elements; however, they are very clean and age-appropriate. I would definitely recommend this YA book.

**Trigger Warnings: Human Trafficking & SA** I’m a sucker for badass females and D.M Earl has delivered! I will say though…this book needs to come with trigger warnings because right off the bat it throws some very gnarly stuff the readers way. I am not usually triggered (typically because I’ve read the warnings and have been able to prepare myself) but this caught me off guard and I actually had to put the book down and take a minute to collect myself. Now, I’m sure it’s not that way for everyone, but be warned there is talk of human trafficking and SA. Like I said, I would have been fine if there had been a trigger warning just letting me know. I absolutely love the way Earl develops her characters. They have this tragic backstory and instead of breaking them, they take it and use it to make themselves strong and resilient but not hardened. And I love a well-rounded female badass who is tough and independent, but doesn’t let that stand in the way of being vulnerable. The heat between Tink and Noodles is a perfect sizzle. I love how Earl uses this first book in the series to introduce us to many of the characters we will see in the follow-up books without loosing focus of Tink and Noodles. The plot line of this book is an emotional one and sometimes it’s hard to read, but D.M. Earl does it tastefully and respectfully. I love the premise of an all-female MC bringing down these horrible trafficking rings, rescuing the people, and bringing them back to their ranch to recover. Add to it that most, if not all, of the females in the MC have tragic backstories themselves, and it just means that much more. I really do recommend this book and I can’t wait to read the others in the series. Just please be warned…there are very sensitive topics discussed.

This is the second book in the Brass Compass series; however, you don’t necessarily need to read the first in order to understand what’s going on (I didn’t) in this one. This is more of a companion novel, not a sequel. I am going to go back and read the first one to see how much it enriches this novel, but you can definitely read this as a standalone. We follow Miriam Becker, a CIA operative, who has one last mission with an old friend, Jake Devlin but things don’t go as planned and when Jake puts his life before hers, Miriam is forced to flee while Jake is left behind. I really enjoyed not only Ellen Butler’s character development and her strong female lead, but also the way she develops her plot and just pulls the read in from the get-go and doesn’t let them go. I couldn’t put this book down. I love historical fiction and this went above and beyond what I thought it would be.

As with pretty much any book of poetry, there were poems that spoke to me and there were poems that didn’t…which is why I love poetry because you never know what will speak to you. I always recommend poetry books. I will say the reason I didn’t give this a 5-star rating was because I felt that some of the poems could have been more flushed out and developed. Some felt a little cliché to me. Two poems really stood out to me: “Sunrise” and “Perfection”. These really resonated with me and I definitely re-read them and will be re-reading them over and over again. I highly recommend Lily Lawson’s Rainbow’s Red Poetry Book…read it and take what resonates with you.

This novel was the perfect combination of romance, historical fiction, and time-travel. I was pleasantly surprised at how well Fogg was able to meld these three genres together without any of them overpowering the others. We follow Erin, our main character, as she navigates through the twists and turns of World War II France and her attraction to Arick. Fogg’s ability to maneuver her audience through the ins and outs of the past and present all while maintaining the intricacies of a historical fiction is absolutely amazing. Her character and plot development is astounding and her descriptions are stunningly vivid and eloquent. This was definitely a read I didn’t know I was looking for. I highly recommend this novel! I’m looking forward to reading another one of Janet Fogg’s books.
This is a cute story about a Thanksgiving turkey, Albert, who gets pardoned by the family who buys him for their Thanksgiving dinner. We get to see the point of view of the turkey and his emotions as the family debates what to do. Ultimately, the family decides to vote on it and the turkey gets to go to the Turkey Pardon Park to live out the rest of his days. It’s a cute Thanksgiving story with colorful illustrations.
Once again Amy McKinley has outdone herself with this short novella. Defiant Princess follows the Five Families daughters: Liliana, Sofia, Emiliana, and Marissa. This is a prequel to the Mafia Elite series; however, you can read it at any time during your journey with that series. This was a super fast read, but I really appreciate that McKinley provides the insight that she does into Marissa’s murder as it is a catalyst that drives a lot of what happens in the series, especially the first book. I also like that she included snippets of romance between a few of the couples we get to see later on and it’s just nice to know that their romances have been going on for way longer than we thought. Even though it was an insanely quick read, McKinley covered all of her basis and allowed for character development as well as plot development. As I said before, it doesn’t matter when you read this novella, but I highly recommend that you do as it does add integral details to the story.
Very cute children’s book about the adventures of the family cat when he goes out at night. The kids are curious about what Lucas does at night so they put a camera on him to record what he does and then they spend the story speculating what adventures Lucas goes on. I love the rhyming that Shannon has done throughout the book and the sing-songy nature it gives to the story. The illustrations are very cute and whimsical. I absolutely love the ending…very cat-like 🙂

I enjoyed the premise of this book as well as the characters. I thought the spice level was *chef’s kiss* and sprinkled generously throughout the book. However, the writing left much to be desired. I felt rushed and then there were extreme jumps in time and the characters were wishy-washy (more so than they needed to be). It’s really hard to explain and put into words how I felt about this book. Like I said, I really liked the premise and the plot line and the characters, I just don’t think it was fully flushed out. I will say that the twist at the end was a complete shocker and I thoroughly enjoyed it! There are actually 2 twists…I liked the main twist…the other twist felt forced and I didn’t think it actually needed to be there. That happened too throughout the book…things happened that really didn’t need to be included. Now let’s get into the story. This is a very quick read, which I always appreciate. I (mostly) loved the characters of Devlin and Eve. I feel like Parker could have maybe flushed Devlin’s character out a little more. We get to see a lot of Eve’s “why” and in time we do get to see Devlin’s but I think his could have been flushed out more. I did really enjoy the interactions between Devlin and Eve; especially when Devlin would get Eve all flustered. Their spicy interactions were off the charts hot and well done! I would recommend this book with the caveat that there’s just something about the writing that just doesn’t sit quite right with me.

I love the way Lois Wickstrom weaves science and life lessons together. In the story “Just One More Egg” we not only get the science-y reasons behind the benefits (and the disadvantages) of having a cuckoo’s egg in your nest, but we also learn the life lesson of helping others even when those around us don’t understand and try to talk us out of it. I love the illustrations and the simplicity of the book. Great story!

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and K.R. Mullins has done a fantastic job of taking the fictional life of our main character, Lottie, and weaving it into the historic Charles Becker trial. I love the way Lottie isn’t your typical female lead and yet she is in a very official position. When she starts getting blackmailed and they threaten to reveal parts of her life she’d rather leave in the dark, we see a fierce and stubborn woman who won’t back down. I really enjoyed how Mullins integrated the Becker trial into her story. I definitely researched it as I was reading (because that’s just how I am) but I think she did a great job of seamlessly weaving the details from the trial into Lottie’s story. I definitely recommend this title. It was a quick and interesting read.
Savage Secrets: I swear! The books in this series just get better and better! McKinley does it again with a deeper look into two lesser known characters. I absolutely love the way she develops her characters and she doesn’t disappoint with Elena and Marco. These two have a complicated relationship to say the least. Elena was promised to another mafia boss through an arranged marriage, but her “death,” and a few other factors, lead to that be voided, and Marco couldn’t be happier. Elena, however, has mixed feelings about not only her own feelings towards Marco, but his feelings towards her. I absolutely love seeing these two characters develop over the course of this book.
This book is action-packed and filled with suspense. There are so many twists and turns that you’ll forget which way you are going. While I did see some of the twists coming, there are others that completely blindside you! McKinley does answer quite a few questions leftover from the previous books so a lot of loose ends are tied up. This one really grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the end. And we can’t forget the spicy parts! I love the way Marco and Elena are so cautious in their feelings toward each other because it just builds and builds!
As always, I recommend reading the books in order. As a reader, you just get so much more and can appreciate what McKinley does not only with her characters, but also with the plot. Wonderfully written! Honestly one of my favorite series!
Ruthless Heir: Another great installment to the series! I absolutely love the way McKinley develops her characters. They are so well-rounded and she doesn’t play into the stereotypical role of women. I must say that I am missing some of the characters we’ve grown to know and love, but that’s only because I still want to know what’s going on with them! But McKinley doesn’t disappoint with her characters. I love the way Luc and Summer’s story evolves throughout the novel. McKinley does an awesome job of driving the plot forward without rushing the development of the characters or timeline. And her *spicy* scenes are perfect! There is just enough of them to entertain without being gratuitous. I absolutely love this author! I can’t wait for the next installment to the series!
Collateral Damage: I absolutely love this series by Amy McKinley and (I know I’ve said it before) but this was the best yet! I love the intertwining of all of the characters and their lives and how we never really “lose” any characters once their book is done because they will always show up in another one, one way or another. I love McKinley’s character building and her plot development. She really takes her time building and sculpting her characters, individually and as a couple. The way McKinley moves her plot throughout the novel is just *chef’s kiss*. I don’t feel like the plot is ever stagnant or that McKinley rushes anything. It’s really a perfect pace. Trey has to be my favorite of the Mafia guys. He’s just so sweet and wholesome (not my typical type) and has a really good heart. While he doesn’t play a full-time role in the Five Families, his role as physician/surgeon is just as integral. He also doesn’t flaunt his connections around, but uses them wisely and discretely. He is still grieving the loss of his girlfriend and has push Hailey away previously. But when she’s in trouble and Trey is asked to help, he can’t help feeling drawn to her once again. Hailey is no stranger to tragedy and grief. She lost her sister and her father in a tragic accident. Hailey’s mother has remarried and pushed Hailey to the side leaving Hailey to deal with everything on her own. Hailey has been pining after Trey ever since they first met at a gala and they danced the night away. She’s friends with Sofia, Trey’s sister, but has never had the courage to ask her to set them up. Once Hailey and Trey meet again (cue second chance) the passion and sparks fly. The sexual tension is there; however, it’s pretty PG throughout the book…but hey…we can use our imaginations, right? There are twists and turns you won’t see coming and your heart may break a time or two, but it’s definitely worth it. I cannot wait for the next (and final?) book in this series to come out. While you can read each one as a standalone, I really recommend reading in order to get the most out of it. You really get a sense of the characters and the family dynamics. But either way…JUST READ THEM!!
Rivals: Amy McKinley has done it again! I know I say this with every book in this series, but this is the best one yet! I cannot believe this is the last one! As always, you can read this as a standalone; however, I would recommend reading the entire series, in order, as you will get the best understanding of the plot line and all of the characters. You will also understand all of the little nuances and seemingly “minor” details better if you read the prior books. The heat between Mia and Nico is electric *wink, wink* from the first time they meet and only continues throughout their story. With Mia on the run from her horrible family, the only person who can protect her is Nico and the only way he can truly protect her is to marry her. So Mia risks it all and seeks him out, offering to take down her family if he’ll change her last name. Can they trust each other enough to do this? Or will both of their pasts interfere and ruin everything? McKinley definitely saved the best for last with Mia and Nico’s story. I absolutely love how they are both guarded but they bring that guard down for each other. I think their story is my favorite. I love the way McKinley writes her characters, especially her female characters. They are completely capable of standing up for themselves and getting themselves out of precarious situations. They also stand with the guys during the tough times and are forces to be reckoned with. They are badasses. This has been an amazing series! It’s a definite must-read!

Master Trentino has fallen for a human medium and must turn her in order to save her. I love that even after they’ve paired, they still take their time getting to know one another so it’s not just they fell in love and that’s it. That’s what I love about Sylvia Black…her novels are fast-paced, but she doesn’t rush. And that’s a hard feat to accomplish. Again, her character development is superb and her plots lines are amazing. I can’t wait to continue reading this series!

This is the 1st installment of the Dark Vampires series and I am here for it! I love how action-packed and fast-paced the novel is and Sylvia Black’s character development is phenomenal. Overmaster Salvatore Descallia is a force to be reckoned with, but Officer Lucianna Denaro brings him to his knees in the most delicious way ever. I love her spunky attitude and how she completely gives into her situation without letting it defeat her. The whole story is so fast-paced but Black doesn’t miss anything. Lucianna doesn’t lose herself when she is forced to turn (due to circumstances beyond her control) and she continues on her quest that brought her to Salvatore. The chemistry between them is undeniable and when they finally give in, sparks fly.

This is the story of Christian and Delilah and to really understand this story, you must read the 1st book. Once again, Sylvia Black kills it with her character development and her plot lines. I just love how she hooks the readers in with her no nonsense and fast-paced plots. And I adore how much effort she puts into her characters. She makes you invested in them. Christian is one tough, stubborn vampire and he will do whatever it takes to avenge the love of his life, Delilah. Even though I did find Delilah annoying at times, the love she has for Christian is redeeming. This wasn’t my favorite of the series, but definitely worth the read (for Christian if nothing else ;)).

This is the 4th book in the Dark Vampires series. While it can be read as a standalone, I definitely recommend reading the others to really understand the storyline and basis behind the novel. I love the character of Romano. Sylvia Black has made him out to be a burly “beast” but underneath it all he is sweet, lovable, and understanding. He is also fiercely protective, loyal, and a formidable leader. I also love Raven’s character as she is extremely complimentary to Romano. She is bright and sassy and energetic. And while she was raised to be afraid of Romano, she isn’t. I love the push and pull of their relationship. Black does a fantastic job of writing fast-paced stories that hold the reader’s attention. Her plot lines are amazing and her spice level is *chef’s kiss*. I can’t wait for the next installment of this series.

This is the wonderful, heartwarming tale of a father and daughter who learn that even though life may be difficult and not always what you want, persistence and patience always pay off in the end. Moby is disheartened when her dad, a Marine, is called away on duty and won’t be back for her birthday. He gives her an early birthday present before he leaves, a bamboo flute. Moby struggles to learn how to play and is quickly discouraged. But she perseveres and soon learns that with practice and patience, she can do anything she puts her mind to. I love the life lessons Eeha Bhatt incorporates into their story. While this story is obviously geared towards small children, I’ve often used picture books with my high school students and this will be one I will definitely incorporate. I love the story and the illustrations are amazing. I’ve also read this story to my 6-year old and she loved the story and the pictures.

This is an eclectic work of modern poetry. Ryan M. Becker takes you on a trippy, edgy yet completely relatable ride through his poems. I really enjoyed reading his poetry and I loved that I could read a poem or two here and there. Some where longer than others, but they weren’t too long. A lot of his poetry was very nostalgic and brought back memories of my childhood and teen years. I loved his word choice and more than once I was running to the dictionary (which I love to do) to see what a word meant or how to pronounce it. I absolutely LOVED the artistic aesthetic of this collection of poems. The art done by Matthew Revert was spot on with each poems and equally as trippy and edgy. Even if you don’t think poetry is your genre, give this a shot…I think you’ll like it!

**BOOK CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS** Holy hell! I could not stop reading this book! This is the first I’ve read of Lindsay Murray, but it definitely won’t be the last! The thought that she has put into her characters, plot, setting, descriptions, everything is just phenomenal. She sucks you in from the beginning and doesn’t let you go. I absolutely love the way she deals with the dark and heavy topics of mental health, abuse, kinks and proclivities, etc. She does it in such a professional, yet normal and relatable way. There is no shaming of any kind. And I am very impressed with the way she took the time to put the trigger warnings at the beginning of her book and she goes into detail about them so the reader is very aware of what they may come across and can make an informed decision about whether or not to proceed. Murray has my utmost respect for that. I love the dynamic between Reuben and Alice and how as a reader your heart is jerked back and forth between the two. You’re mad at one for what they are doing to the other…then you’re mad at the other one because now they are being an idiot. It’s just magical the way Murray can make you feel all the feels for these characters. Just know that you will cry, cuss, cry some more, be happy, be mad, be heartbroken, and be happy again…all within a matter of chapters! I cannot recommend this book enough! I had to find out what was going to happen but I didn’t want the story to end! This book will not only make you face your deepest, darkest desires, but also your deepest, darkest demons.

Absolute thrill ride from beginning to end! One of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read in a long time! This novel is most definitely not for the faint of heart. There are depictions of murder and child abuse that made even me cringe. But the way DeBlassie spins his tale is *chef’s kiss* amazing. The internal moral dilemma that Gabriél faces in choosing to save his wife and son and going against the cherished Mother is absolutely fascinating. While this story won’t stop you from sleeping, it will invade your thoughts when you least expect it and leave you wondering why and how. I absolutely recommend this thriller of a novel.

Amy McKinley has done it again! I know I say this with every book in this series, but this is the best one yet! I cannot believe this is the last one! As always, you can read this as a standalone; however, I would recommend reading the entire series, in order, as you will get the best understanding of the plot line and all of the characters. You will also understand all of the little nuances and seemingly “minor” details better if you read the prior books. The heat between Mia and Nico is electric *wink, wink* from the first time they meet and only continues throughout their story. With Mia on the run from her horrible family, the only person who can protect her is Nico and the only way he can truly protect her is to marry her. So Mia risks it all and seeks him out, offering to take down her family if he’ll change her last name. Can they trust each other enough to do this? Or will both of their pasts interfere and ruin everything? McKinley definitely saved the best for last with Mia and Nico’s story. I absolutely love how they are both guarded but they bring that guard down for each other. I think their story is my favorite. I love the way McKinley writes her characters, especially her female characters. They are completely capable of standing up for themselves and getting themselves out of precarious situations. They also stand with the guys during the tough times and are forces to be reckoned with. They are badasses. This has been an amazing series! It’s a definite must-read!
*TRIGGER WARNING* BOOK CONTAINS DARK CONTENT (not for the faint of heart) I, uh, need a few minutes to gather myself and you will too once you read A.C. Kramer’s Truth or Kill in one sitting because you won’t be able to put it down. This dark, twisted romance will make you question what you thought you knew about yourself. The way Kramer weaves her web of lies, revenge, lust, love, murder, survival, and everything in between is absolutely amazing! Her character development is sublime and her plot line is incredible. The chemistry between Kage and Sydney is *chef’s kiss* flawless. They are complementary to each other in everyway imaginable…where he is dark, she is light; he is tainted, she is pure. But they are both unapologetically themselves and neither of them faults the other for it. The spice factor for this book is off the charts! The heat between Kage and Sydney is palpable and you will be squirming, blushing, and gasping for air by the time the book’s over. I CANNOT wait to read more by A.C. Kramer. I am definitely going to go down a rabbit hole with this author and read everything she’s ever written! I absolutely love her style! There are more books in this series (written by different authors) that I cannot wait to read as well.

This is the 2nd book in the Casket Girls series by A.D. Brazeau. I definitely recommend reading the series in order to get the most out of all this author has to offer! Brazeau does it again with this wonderfully crafted tale of Greer, who finds herself in the Underworld; Thoren, who finds himself in New Orleans fighting bloodthirsty vampires; Desiree, who finds herself fighting alongside Thoren; and Jaxon, who finds himself fighting the urge to feed on the innocent. I absolutely love the way Brazeau weaves her characters together and she does this spectacularly well in Blood and Vengeance. I also love the way the authors moves her plot along and the twists and turns she throws in along the way. I also have to give a huge shout out to the person who designed the cover! I am in LOVE with the cover design! It drew me in just like the first one! I cannot wait for this series to continue! Definitely a series I recommend!

A delightfully charming and cheeky read for a pre-teen/tween. This is the third installment in this series and while this could be read as a standalone, I recommend reading from the beginning so you can thoroughly appreciate the characters and plot. I really enjoyed Dixon’s characters and the relatable predicaments they got themselves into. I think a lot of young girls will relate to the main character, Lauren. I really enjoyed this quick read and would recommend this book to any young kiddo who enjoys ghosts, friends, and dance.

Get the boxset…don’t even consider getting 1 just to see if you’ll like it…you will. These books are addictive and engaging and fast-paced and seductive and so much more. I absolutely love the way India Kells creates and develops her characters and how each character is an imperfect match for the other. The amount of push and pull between the Brothers and each of their Sparrows is riveting and each book has just the right amount of spice. I positively love the way Kells weaves each of the Brothers and their Sparrows stories together to build on each story as we progress in the box set. We still get to see characters that were the focal points of other stories while not losing sight of the main characters in this story. India Kells is quickly becoming one of my favorite, go-to authors. I will definitely be reading all of her stuff!
