Before I Let You GoBefore I Let You Go by Kellie Wallace
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a quick-paced read that is packed with mystery, intrigue, romance, angst, and so much more. If you are looking for a paranormal romantasy, then this is the book for you. I adore and admire Elsbeth’s character and the way Wallace keeps the plot moving is fantastic. I was up well into the night because I couldn’t put this one down. This is a great read…especially if you are in a funk right now and can’t decide what to read or just don’ know. Pick this up for a quick read that will jump start you!

Mistaken Identity (London Detective Agency Series) by Stephanie R. Caffrey – Review by Megan Conley

Mistaken Identity (London Detective Agency Book 1)Mistaken Identity by Stephanie R. Caffrey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is the perfect mix of suspense, intrigue, and romance. Caffrey kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and kept me turning pages well into the night. If you are looking for forced proximity, witty banter, suspense, action, and an ultimate HEA then this is the book for you. The character development of our FMC Evelyn and our MMC Patrick both independently and together is phenomenal. And I also love that James, the cheeky wingman for Patrick, is really such a huge part of this book but it doesn’t come off creepy or forced. The plot line flows so well and there are some really great twists and turns that had me gasping as I read. It really is just an all-around great book. I cannot wait to see what Caffrey has in store for her readers next.

Mermaid TailsMermaid Tails by Suzanna Lynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is seriously one of the cutest children’s books I’ve read in a long time. I love the inclusivity and originality of it! I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I started reading it but I absolutely fell in love with the concept and I couldn’t wait to see how each of the sea creatures was going to work with the mermaid concept. This was truly such an innovative idea to not only encourage kids to use their imaginations but to also learn about the amazing sea creatures inhabiting our oceans. The illustrations are absolutely phenomenal and they are so bright and enthralling. If you’ve got a kiddo who loves mermaids, sea creatures, or both you need to get this book RIGHT NOW!

The Glow in Loretta's Garden (Loretta's Insects)The Glow in Loretta’s Garden by Lois Wickstrom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wickstrom deserves countless accolades for bringing STEM to kiddos at such a young age in such a fun and easily understandable way. The Glow in Loretta’s Garden teaches young readers about the lifecycle of fireflies (or lightning bugs where I’m from ;)). The way Wickstrom is able to provide readers with a science lesson through storytelling is phenomenal. She’s able to weave her lessons throughout the story of Loretta and teach not only the academic side of it, but also an emotional component too. And the illustrations are bright and captivating and go along perfectly with the story. This is definitely another book you’ll want to add to your ever-growing Wickstrom collection.

The Complete Echo Series: A Heartfelt Romance Collection (The Echo Series) by C.R. Alam – Review by Megan Conley

The Complete Echo Series (Echo #1-4)The Complete Echo Series by C.R. Alam
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This series overall…WHOA! Get you a rainy day, a cozy blanket and a nice chair, with a cup of coffee, tea, or whiskey…whatever your preference 😉 and BINGE THIS SERIES NOW! I could not put these books down. Was each book a 5-star? No, but overall this series has it all…amazing plot lines, fantastic character development, and enough sparks to set a substantial flame. All four of these stories are standalones (but why read just one?) and they are contemporary romances but each book has it’s own unique storyline and characters. Echoing Hearts is the enemies-to-lovers type possible love triangle story of Dean and Rae who just can’t seem to get away from one another. Alam takes her readers on an emotional rollercoaster in this story and quite a few times you really just want to smack the characters upside the head. His Forever Muse is the kind of starry-eyed, breathy sigh story of Brandon and Calliope who’ve known each other since childhood…and perhaps have already tried to have a go at this thing called love. This would be your second-chance, friends-to-lovers romance. Unexpected Entanglement was my favorite out of the series. I love the fake dating and forced proximity trope and this one had both. Rowan and Chris are forced together to plan a wedding in two weeks…but sparks start flying. I really love the depth of this story and Alam just roped my in with this one. Definitely had my staying up way past my bed time to read “just one more chapter.” The final book in the series is Dangerous Rhythm and it’s your typical rockstar/bodyguard trope…with a twist…but I’m not gonna tell you what it is! This is Curtis and Lina’s story and it is filled with action, drama, danger, suspense, passion, and so much more. C. R. Alam has really outdone herself with The Echo Series. It’s definitely a series you are going to want to add to your collection and set aside some time to binge because once you start, you won’t be able to stop.

The Changed Man (The Olympic Peninsula Series, Book 4) by Cat Treadgold – Review by Megan Conley

The Changed Man (The Olympic Peninsula series Book 4)The Changed Man by Cat Treadgold
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This series ages like a fine wine. Each time I finish a book and Treadgold comes out with another one, I’m like there’s no way she can top the last one and then she goes and does it. This one is probably by far my favorite. The MMC is angsty and distant (he has his reasons) and his relationship with the FMC is…complicated to say the least. I love all the different dynamics we get to experience through out the book not only between the MMC and the FMC but also the family and friendship dynamics that Treadgold brings into the plot line. One of my favorite things an author does is bring back characters from previous stories so we can still see what they are up to without taking over the main character’s story and Treadgold does such a fantastic job of that. We get to see what everyone else has been up to without it taking over Jake and Chiara’s story. This story is an emotional rollercoaster of a ride so you better buckle up. And while I suppose you could read these as standalones (as they are individual stories) I would suggest reading them in order because you will truly miss out on some storyline and character nuances. I cannot wait for the next installment in the Olympic Peninsula series.

This is another great installment in the Porter and Midge series about teaching kids the responsibilities of pet ownership. While Porter and Midge are dogs, the lessons learned in the book can be applied to any pet looking to be adopted. I love the way Chen and Nevada use rhythm and rhyme to get the kids involved as well as teaching them very important lessons about not only pet ownership, but also communication with parents and respect between parents and children. There is so much to learn from this story. Definitely pick this one up to add it to your growing Porter and Midge collection.

Sugar & Spice (Spicetopia Series) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Megan Conley

Sugar & Spice (Spicetopia Book 1)Sugar & Spice by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story has it all…a driven plot line, character development, and spice. Alexander really does hook you from the first pages and keeps you wanting more through the end (and honestly beyond). The setting of the story is a fun change from your typically “office” romances and I really enjoyed the character development of Cy/Marcus…it’s really what you want to see in your MMC (especially with this plot line). And we can’t leave out Jolie’s development either. I can totally relate to her being a single, working mother who is nervous about letting someone “in.” I loved seeing Jolie and Cy/Marcus “interact” together…the spicy scenes are very well done and they aren’t overdone or gratuitous. I really enjoyed the first installment in the Spicetopia series and can’t wait for the next book to come out.

Every year on Caspian’s unbirthday, his grandpa gets him a special present in a special box, but this year the box isn’t in its usual place and Caspian can’t find it anywhere! However, Caspian does find a special compass that helps him answer some questions he has by pointing him in the right direction. Eventually through some detective work and help from the compass, Caspian unravels the mystery surrounding his special box and enjoys some time with his grandpa. Give Us Bad Boys and BillionairesGive Us Bad Boys and Billionaires by L.M. Mountford
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This collection of stories and author may be some readers’ cup of tea; however, it is not mine and I cannot make a recommendation based on the following review. This collection of short stories has spice, sometimes some very “intense” spice. But that’s about all it has. There is no character development or plot to these stories. I kept hoping that the more I read that there would be a story where it was more than just a gratuitous spicy scene that bordered on revulsion and repulsion for me. There were many times throughout my reading of this collection that I had to stop and put the book down because it gave me the ick. If you’re looking for nothing more than over-done erotica, with over-the-top, nausea-inducing spice, no character development and no logical plot line, then this is a collection you can add to your stockpile. But be warned…this is nothing more than a teenage boy’s wet dream written on paper.

This is the 2nd book in the House of Valdis series and we get a little more of Xenobia’s backstory. You really do need to read the prequel and the 1st book in order to fully understand what’s going on as we pick up roughly 6 months after the 1st book ends. I love the multiple POV’s we get in each chapter as it really allows you to relate to the different characters and gain insights that you otherwise wouldn’t have. Basil (Silver Springs Pets, #7)Basil by K. Rose
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book is…different and not necessarily in a bad way…it’s just ehh. I liked the premise of it and the set up of a variety (and I mean variety) of supernatural beings living in a warded village together was fantastic. I think the biggest thing holding me back with this book is the plot development, character development, and writing. I liked the premise but there were so many plot hole or places where all of a sudden things just happened (or didn’t happen) and it didn’t really make sense or it felt really rushed. And I loved the characters. Basil, Jo, JJ, and Theo make for quite the interesting reverse harem BUT their development (or lack thereof) really hinders my overall feel for the book and in turn them. They weren’t developed much past their initial introduction and there are quite a few holes in their stories…especially Basil and she’s our main character. There are also some side characters that I would have liked to see have more development but were just kind of there or just got completely cast to the side by the end of the book. As for the writing…it was tolerable in the beginning but as it went on I just felt that it got more and more juvenile and it was hard for me to finish. I found my self rolling my eyes and sighing quite a bit at what was happening and what was being said. I really think this could be a great story with more development and it’s not a horrible book as is. It just wasn’t really my cup of tea. But it is a quick, definitely spicy read that would be great for in-between those longer books.

Reluctant SpyReluctant Spy by Lois June Wickstrom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I absolutely love Hildegarde the rat and Grandma…though I do have a soft spot for pet rats 🙂 Wickstrom has done it again with her chapter books…I love reading a chapter or two with my kiddos at night or during our weekly reading time. Wickstrom’s books (picture and chapter) are so engaging and have so many lessons woven throughout them. I love Grandma’s sense of wit throughout the book and I feel that Hildegarde had her own wit as well. Timmy’s first meeting with Hildegarde made both myself and my kids giggle and I love his reluctance to really trust “a rat.” I really miss the illustrations of Wickstrom’s picture books because they are just so well done (I know, I know…it’s a chapter book…but who says you can’t have pictures too!). This is a great read for anyone wanting to spend some quality time with their kiddos. It really does make for a great read aloud.

Divinely Dramatic (Divine Vintage)Divinely Dramatic by Sandra L. Young
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this wonderfully divine sequel, we get more insight into Marcy, the store clerk from Divine Vintage, and we meet Mike, the sexy director who has a rather nasty girlfriend and, in turn, is rather grumpy. I love the continuance of the paranormal aspect and this time it’s Marcy who is being called on to help the spirit in need. I think I liked this one a bit more ONLY because the plot line interested me more due to the particular play (The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde) that Young chose for her storyline. I enjoyed the character development (as individuals and otherwise) and I also really enjoyed getting to see characters that we previously got to know in the first book. If you are looking for a paranormal mystery romance with a bit of a grumpy/sunshine trope then this is defiantly the book for you! This is the second book in the series and I feel that you can read it as a standalone…but honestly why would you want to miss out on another great book so just go read the first one too 🙂

It’s a whirlwind from there when a literally spark between Tess and Trey ignites a shocking revelation in Trey’s family’s murder-suicide of Phoebe and Edward. Young’s ability to seamlessly go between the storylines of the characters is flawless and amazing. I loved how she is able to rope the reader in from the beginning and keep the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end. When she’s not impressed with her initial asks (gold and water) she asks them to find something valuable. The rods lead her to something extremely valuable (plus another surprise…perhaps for another story). Vacation Flirtation is the first installment in the Winter Getaway Romance series and can be read as a standalone. This is Giuliana and Landon’s meet-cute, whirlwind of a romance story and it is fantastic, funny, and flirty. I really enjoyed Komosinski’s writing style along with her plot development and her character development. Her characters have depth to them and are very relatable. I also really enjoyed the sub-plot of Giuliana and Morgan’s friendship (which is the whole reason Giuliana is in Turks and Caicos in the first place) and how it has matured over the years like they have. This is the definition of a slow burn but the spice is still nicely done and sprinkled throughout the book. I loved the witty banter between everyone and the emotional depth later on in the book. I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! If you are looking for a romantic slow-burn with extra *spice* then this is the book for you. Colby and Gabby’s story is so well done and you will want to throttle both of them throughout the story but there is an HEA. This is book 3 of 3 in the Hamilton Steelhawks series; however, you can totally read it (and any of them) as standalones. Another aspect I really appreciate when authors do is when you get to see how the other characters from previous books are doing. I liked the premise of this book and I think it was well executed for the most part. I liked that the stories were short and to-the-point to keep the attention of the reader. I also felt that the “lessons” in the stories were very poignant and spot on for today’s girls. The only thing that gives me pause is how much emphasis is put on Sasha being able to attain these attributes comes from her friends. While I completely understand the importance of friends and friendship (especially at this age) I think it is also important to stress that you also have your family (which is shown in the book) but also that these attributes can come from within as well and you don’t always need (or will have) that outside influence there to positively push you. But overall, I would recommend this book and I like the message it sent and the illustrations were absolutely amazing.

I really liked the premise of this short story and I really hope/wish/want/plead with C.A. King to do a more in-depth telling of this story. The Curse of the Forbidden Island is a paranormal/horror/reverse harem/romance that definitely has the potential to be a fantastic book. My biggest issue with it is that I felt rushed throughout and there were some plot holes and parts of the plot that I wish were more developed. I also really wanted the characters to be more developed. I felt that the information we were given was just dumped on the reader (sometimes seemingly at random) and it could have been more developed. I also recognize that this short story is only 52 pages long and there’s only so much time which is why I’d really love to see this developed into a longer story. The plot is there and I think King has the ability and wherewithal to do it. This is a super quick 20-30 minute read (depending on how many distractions you have ;)) and it’s spicy in all the right ways. Like I said, I enjoyed it but I’d just like to see more character development and some of the plot holes filled in and more plot development as well.

Fashionably Fake (Kings of Screen, #4)Fashionably Fake by Morgana Bevan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I adored Jackson and Ros throughout this book (even though there were times I wanted to throttle them both). I loved the simplicity (ehh…once you get through the whole thing you can reflect) of their multifaceted relationship and the slow burn of it all is most definitely worth while. This is the 4th installment of the Kings of the Screen series and can be read as a standalone. Other characters and their significant others do make appearances throughout the book (which I always thoroughly enjoy seeing what my other loves are up to) and there is some teasing as to who will be the focus in the next book. One thing that I really appreciate about Bevan’s writing is how relatable her characters are. I mean…I’m not an up-and-coming fashion designer in a fake relationship with a hunky Scottish heartthrob BY ANY MEANS but I totally related to Ros and her view (albeit skewed) of relationships and men. And the way Bevan did it just wasn’t superficial and fakey…it really hits home and is raw and emotional and you as the reader can totally put yourself in Ros’s shoes. I definitely can’t wait for the next Kings of Screen installment.
