I read the first book to this series and loved it so I decided to read the 2nd book. I made a good choice because this book was just as good as the first. I’m beginning to love suspense/mystery novels and this series is why. The book is written in 3rd person but it’s not too much. It mainly focuses on Lauren’s feelings which I like. I can’t wait to keep reading more by this author.

Lauren Besoner, a court stenographer, has found her boss dead in their home. When she agreed to carpool with the judge the last thing expected was to find her deceased. It comes to her attention that she has become a prime suspect when she does several interviews with the police. How can she prove her innocence beyond a shadow of a doubt? Surely there are several suspects who had more than enough motive to commit the crime? Will she be able to find the killer before she is arrested a charged unjustly? Or is she a soon to be victim herself?

This is the second book in this series, and I loves this one as much as I did the first. Lauren Besoner is a court reporter who freelances. She takes a job working for her ex-husband while his regular reporter is on maternity leave. Lauren’s job is to take down every word said in court, but she can’t stop her inquisitive mind when things don’t add up. Can she just do her job or will she follow her instincts and start doing her own poking around. I love Lauren and I think along the same way as she does. I found myself talking to the book and telling her where to look next. The characters are very likable, from the owner of the bakery to even her ex-husband, who didn’t realize becoming a judge would find him so lonely. I sat on the edge of my seat as I turned each page wondering what she would come across next! I would recommend this read in a heartbeat.

Shadows of Doubt (A Crawford Mystery) By Merissa Racine
4-stars
Shadows of Doubt is the 2nd book in the Crawford Mystery series, a series that I recommend reading in order as this book follows the same characters as the previous book.
Just like the first book we get to follow along with Lauren and the current case she is working on as a stenographer. I found reading all the ins and outs of the courtroom to be really interesting, however, I prefer a more fast paced read with a bit more excitement. In saying that though this story is quite realistic compared to others of this genre and that is truly a nice change.
This is a book I would recommend reading, it’s entertaining and mysterious enough to keep you wanting more!

This is the 2nd book in the series and it is just as enjoyable as the first book. Even though the books can be read as a standalone I would recommend reading them in order so you get a proper sense for the characters and how they are linked.
Lauren is back as the court reporter. Forced to take whatever jobs come her way she has to take a job as a court reporter for a murder trail that her ex husband is the judge on. With the feelings between the running high can she focus on her job?
This murder trial has a difference. Lauren knows the victim and she knows that the chances of the person who is on trail for her murder actually commiting this murder are very slim. With other suspects with a stronger motive for this murder not being looked into Lauren finds herself trying to solve the case and bring the real murderer to justice. However things aren’t that straight forward and the story takes you on so many twists as it unfolds that you won’t know who the killer is until the end.

Shadows of Doubt: A Crawford Mystery by Merissa Racine is a detailed and interesting story. I thought that it has a fresh twist on it given the main characters profession. I thought that it gave the story and authentic feel to it. I was slowly pulled more and more into this story, wanting to see how things would turn out. I thought Lauren was such a good man character. For me she brought the story to life and added so much to it. She was engaging throughout and just a likeable character. The book is full of twists and turns, which rg keeps you involved in the book. This is a great story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I was so excited to read this book, and join Lauren on her next trial and case. I loved her character in the previous novel. The previous novel held me at the edge of the seat with suspense, and this one up held very much to my enjoyment with the first, though this one I seemed more and more intrigued!
Lauren is a tough cookie from my past readings about her and her growth as a character. She has always been a girl that will do or die to survive. She has to take a job she doesn’t want, but hey it pays the bills at the end of the day right? Doing her job leads to other things perhaps of the cognitive mind though? Lauren has a strong lust for the truth always. For those of us who read the first novel, we can speak that Lauren can get a hunch and you can basically know she may be onto something! I loved the murder trial and how Lauren went against better judgment to seek out the truth!
For me what really made my intrigue and wonder of this novel, is when Lauren is hunting for evidence and facts what she finds. Sometimes when you dig with questions you do not like the answers you find in your search. After all we all have secrets do we not? Not all those skeletons can stay hidden forever, or can they? As I read on things tied together, and I was blown away at moments leading up to the ending and conclusion! I really need to have a conversation about this book! It was more than good, the mystery and hunt for justice as well as the truth was descriptive and very well done. I was very much impressed as I was with the first, and even more this round! This author is amazing with her writing, seriously!
So again read this book, especially if you have read the prior, you will be holding your breath with suspense and intrigue as you read through this book. There was a lot of moments where even you question things in the book, that lead to another. Well done and very well written! Loved it entirely!

This is the second book in this series which I enjoyed by this author. I highly suggest you read the previous book as it is just as great. One of my favorite things with this author is her ability to pull me into her stories from the beginning. Her use of details and her writing skills make her stories realistic and engaging. This book is no different. I really enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is a story about Lauren who is a reporter for the court. Her need of money forces her to take on a job for her ex husband, a new judge. This is where the story gets hard to put down. She is faced with lies from her past and determined to find the real killer. Sometimes things are not who or what they seem. I enjoyed the growth of the plot and characters throughout the story. The characters are connectable and bring the story to life on each page. The twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next and you will want to see what happens next. This is a great story that I highly recommend. It is worth the pick up.

I do love the Crawford Mysteries. They are entertaining because the town is full of characters that are just like people you might find in a small town. Lauren is usually the one in the middle of the mystery. It’s funny how families are always causing such chaos around money. This installment of the mysteries lived up to its expectations. It was funny, had challenges with some twists you weren’t expecting and just fun to solve. Well worth the cost and I promise you’ll get a kick out of it.

Drama and intrigue Another great legal mystery in Crawford. I found myself hooked into the drama of the court case. This had a very different feel to the first book but just as intriguing. Lauren finds herself right in the middle of a tangled web of lies, greed and corruption. The authors does a great job in delivering a balance between the legal terminology and a creative plot line that kept me turning the pages.

This is the first book in the Crawford Mystery series and it was a perfect book to start an addictive series. I started to read this book and I could not stop reading.
Lauren Besoner is finally ready to go home and start a new life. Her marriage fell apart and now she wants to start off as a new woman. Lauren gets a job that she is so excited for. She is the new stenographer in her hometown in Wyoming. Lauren doesn’t want any more drama in her life so she concentrates on her job. One morning she goes to pick up a judge that she is starting to like only to find her murdered in the house. Lauren doesn’t know what to do because she has answered all the questions but they keep on blaming her for a murder she did not do.

Silent Gavel is the first book in the A Crawford Mystery Series by Merissa Racine. Whew! I was totally expecting the same ole same ole who dunnit mystery and that is not what I got at all. I truly enjoyed reading this fast paced mystery suspense that kept me turning the pages while on the edge of my seat. I had to know what was going to happen next. This is a fairly new author to me but I’m a fan already . This is a story about Lauren she moved and left her old life behind and found a job at the courthouse as a Stenographer. All was good until the judge is found murdered and Lauren is the number one suspect. She decides to try and solve the mystery of who did it but things get complicated. This is where I glued and couldn’t put it down. Can she figure it all out? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. You won’t be disappointed. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Silent Gavel (A Crawford Mystery Book 1) by Merissa Racine
4 out of 5 Stars
Lauren Besoner has had enough drama recently. Lauren is ready for some stability. Lauren has bought a house and gotten a dog. She is trying to make a life for herself. All of that comes to an abrupt halt when she finds her boss, Judge Murphy, dead. As the investigation ramps up, Lauren finds herself as a suspect. How does she find a way to prove it wasn’t her?
Merissa Racine adds twists at every turn, keeping you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you have it figured it out, a new piece of evidence pops up and changes everything. Lauren can’t stay out of trouble. She keeps landing in the interrogation room with the very handsome Detective Sam Overstreet. It is not looking good for Lauren. Excellent storytelling! Maybe the mystery will be how Lauren avoids a relationship with Sam?

Wow this book had me hooked from beginning to end. This was a great mystery with suspense and I really thought I had it figured out on “who done it”…or so I thought….. Lauren is a court stenographer and when she goes to pick up the judge she was working for one morning, something was not right. When Lauren went into Judge Murphy’s house to check in to see if she was ready, Lauren finds the judge murdered in her own home. Sam Overstreet is the detective on the case and has his eyes on Lauren as his #1 suspect. Who murdered Judge Murphy? This book is a who done it murder mystery and just so good. This book really drew me in and I cannot wait until I continue with book #2.

I don’t get hooked very often to the point of finishing a book in one sitting but this novel has be on the edge of my seat unable to put it down. But Silent Gavel has everything you could possibly need in a suspense book from murder, suspense, drama and oh so much more. Ms. Racine’s s characters were incredible and her writing so detailed that it’s almost like your in the middle of the novel with her characters. So if your looking for a great suspense novel this weekend then I highly recommend Silent Gavel.

Silent Gavel (A Crawford Mystery Book 1) by Merissa Racine was a pager turning crime mystery. Merissa writes a riveting murder mystery that makes you question who did it after Lauren finds her dead boss. Through the whole book I found myself trying to guess who murdered Judge Murphy and with each chapter I found myself changing my mind as to who the killer was, falling in love with characters I previously hated, and ultimately was shocked at the end. This was a great read and would read again.

Silent Gavel, book 1 in the Crawford Mystery series by Merissa Racine is a five-star read! I LOVED this book! I love reading thriller books with a crime theme and this one did not disappoint! I loved the character development and that the story was well written and did not drag but include just what was needed and had a few twists I definitely did not see coming! The book starts out with Lauren, a court reporter, being late to pick up her boss, the judge, to carpool to a hearing. When Lauren arrives and does not receive a response from the judge after knocking on her door, she steps inside only to find the judge dead! Her whole world is about to get messy, and she is now on the mission to not only clear her name but to find out who killed her boss. I really enjoyed this book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good whodunit story! I cannot wait to sink myself into book 2 next!

Lauren Besoner is a court stenographer in the small town of Crawford, Wyoming, she owns her own home and has a dog she loves to bits, as well as some actual stability in her life, no thanks to her past dating and relationship endeavours both at home and in Denver the short time she lived there. She is happy with her life and job, that is until one day when she is heading to pick up the judge that she works for so that they can travel together to the courthouse a couple of towns over, instead, when the judge isn’t answering her calls or texts, Lauren goes up to the house to check to see if she is ready. When she approaches the house and sees the front door open, she calls out for the judge multiple times, getting louder as time goes on, eventually she goes inside when she notices that the judge’s dog is shivering and cold, however, when her foot touches some broken glass on the floor, Lauren is shocked to find the judge is lying on top of it.
Lauren panics and fumbles for the light switch and this is when she sees the broken glass panel in the front door and the judge lying in a pool of blood, stumbling back out of the door and taking the dog with her, she gets into her car and calls 911 to report what she has found. As the call progresses and Lauren has to go back inside the house to check for signs of life that it fully hits her what has happened and this is compounded when the police arrive and ask her to go to the station to make a statement while her clothes are taken away as evidence and the scene is sealed. As time passes and the events settle in, Lauren is brought in for questioning on multiple occasions, however, each time she goes, she feels like she is being treated like the number one suspect despite giving all the facts to the contrary, it doesn’t help that she finds out that her ex-husband was cheating on her with the judge while they were still marries, which is the opposite of what he told her originally.
As the investigation continues and nothing changes or moves forwards, Lauren’s unease with being the prime suspect increases and she gets the feeling that nothing is as it seems and that there is too much that doesn’t add up the more she thinks about it, so she starts to do a little digging of her own. Will Lauren be able to prove her innocence and work out who the real killer is, or will she go down for a crime she didn’t commit? This is a thrilling mystery filled with intrigue, secrets and more questions than answers until the end is reached and the killers identity is revealed.

This story jumps you right into the middle of all the action. Lauren is an immediate suspect in her boss’s death, and must find a way to prove her innocence. A very well written mystery-thriller, as there is no indication until the very end of this “who done it”. I usually am able to follow the lead through the story and have an idea of what to expect at the end, but not in the case of the Silent Gavel. A very good read and highly recommend!

This was my 1st book I’ve read by Merissa Racine, and once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. Silent Gavel has every bit of suspense, mystery, murder, and some humor all mixed up together. For me it started off slow but as I said previously, once I really got into it I want to know more. I was trying to come to my own conclusions on how it would end. I may have guessed wrong in the end but it still made for some entertainment for me. Lauren, court reporter, went to pick up her boss Judge Murphy to head to a case outside of town. Little did she know she would make the gruesome discovery that her boss had been slain. An investigation led by Detective Overstreet puts Lauren on the roller coaster of uncertainty in her life. Merissa Racine has a gift of keeping her reader hooked and wanting to know more. To make a game of being the investigator yourself trying to solve the mystery. I look forward to reading other books by this author in the future.

Lauren Besoner shows up at her boss’s house to carpool to a hearing in another city. Her boss, a judge, she finds dead on her floor. Sam Overstreet, the detective investigating the murder of the judge, keeps showing up at Lauren’s door with more questions. The supporting characters were just as fun to get to know as Lauren. Her ex-husband Tony, yes, you love to hate him. The story was very intriguing and kept me turning the pages. I was trying to follow all the pathways and was still stumped until almost the end. Was very well written. Courthouse gossip, people that had cases in her court, people that worked close to her, ex-lover, and a fiancé, so many theories. Am looking forward to Book 2.

Silent Gavel (A Crawford Mystery Book 1) by Merissa Racine
4-stars
Silent Gavel was a great mystery read, right from the start I was intrigued and that intrigue didn’t let up until the very end. I really enjoyed the pace of this story, it was slower than I’m used to reading in this genre, but I enjoyed it as the author really gave us a chance to get to know the characters on a deeper level.
Even though it was slower paced I still felt very much entertained and curious as to how everything was going to play out for Lauren, I had all kinds of theories going on in my mind, and not one of them was correct, and that added to my love for the story.
I am really looking forward to reading more from this author and of these characters asap.

This one packs a punch! Silent Gavel by Merissa Racine is a page-turning whodunnit. Drawn in from page one, you won’t be able to put it down until you solve the mystery.
When Lauren, a local court reporter, finds her boss dead and finds herself as suspect number one, she wracks her brain for alternatives to offer the police to stay out of jail! But who really did kill the judge, with a growing suspect list but nothing seems to stick?
Racine has an effortless flow to her writing that draws you in as a reader. She weaves a story with excellent detail that keeps you guessing until the end. I can’t wait to read more from her!

This is a mystery that will grab you from page 1 and keep you reading until the very end. Lauren finders her boss dead when she picks arrives to pick her up. From there, the adventure and mystery begins. Lauren has a cast of characters around her that are so well-written as support. They each have their role to play from the ex-husband, who conveniently stops by to check on her and try to make a move; to the Detective, who has an attraction to her (and where will this go). I loved the fact that I just could not pick who the killer was. I thought I knew but then I was wrong. Great first novel and I’m looking forward to reading her next book in the series. There is nothing like a good legal thriller. Highly recommend!
