The Silent Road is not what I expected it to be. After the first few chapters I could not put it down. I had to find out what would happen next. The two main characters do compliment each other very well. There are definitely some turns of events I wasn’t expecting to happen. Overall, it is a very fun and exciting read.
Dan Perry is a man just trying to do his best, even when it doesn’t always work out. After being put on probation for driving his rig without a license, he is forced to team up with Jake. Even though this is the last thing he wants to do, he needs to help his daughter and this is the only way he can do it. As Dan and Jake spend more time together they become closer. This book comes with many emotions, but man this author did a fantastic job of pulling it all together.
Kai and Byron seem like a very unlikely pair. Kai is an angel sent to Earth to take out demons that are destroying the world. Byron is a demonic material arts expert, and as luck would have it, he’s also one of Kai’s targets. Even though they are separate sides of the battlefield, they are still drawn to each other.

This was a well written discovery/drama where some MM love interest is concerned. Book is well thought out with lots of details but i didnt love the characters as much as I would like. Still a good book with lots of emotions and drama!

Emissary was such a great book. The author didn’t disappoint me one bit. The characters were all amazing. The world building was great also. While reading this book, I could relate to it. It felt like the book was coming to life and that’s what I enjoy most about reading books. I loved learning about kai & Byon’s relationship and reading about how it grew more.
To redeem himself, Kai accepts an assignment to kill demons that are causing chaos in the mortal realm.
Byron Black is targeted but is saved by Kai. Though he knows there is more than meets the eye with Kai, who is an angel, he can’t seem to stay away from him.
Who wants him dead and why? The journey to find out the answers brings them closer and the attraction becomes hard to ignore. As Byron and Kai get closer, Kai begins to feel sadness because of how his previous relationship ended. Not wanting it to happen again.
When I saw an MM romance, I had to read it. I don’t want to give too much away. It took some time for me to get into the story, but once I did, I could not put the novel down.
This novel is part of the Star Crossed Celestial series but it can be read as a stand-alone. I hope there is more novels in this series.
Emissary is my 4th or 5th MM book I’ve read. I’ve really enjoyed reading romances from different points of view. I fell in love with both Malakai & Byron’s characters. I really liked the star-crossed lovers aspect. The whole forbidden love thing makes it 100x better. This is a great read. Once you get started you won’t be able to put it down. The story is full of love & mystery…it’s steamy, action packed & unpredictable. Now I must read The Watcher!
Kai, an angel of death, a celestial, who is suppose to take out watchers and demons. But, Byron is a different, he is the first to make Kai question is this the right thing? Byron, a demon – different from all the others, questions why Kai spares him. Can he trust him? Can the two overcome the obstacles life puts in thier way? I truly enjoyed the world building and the story evolution between Kai and Byron. I would recommend giving this story a chance and continue on in the series.

This was a really good book. I enjoy love stories especially when it is about opposites being attracted to each other and finding happiness even though they are so different. Byron and Malakai had a difficult journey to their happy ending and I fully enjoyed the experience. I am enjoying this series and I look forward to reading the next one.
Emissary is a standalone novel, or it could be used as a prequel to the Star Crossed Celestials series. Emissary follows Kai, an emissary of death. An error on his part caused his love to perish which pushes Kai to want to redeem himself by taking on a task. The target he was tasked to find is Byron Black who has fought for his life for as long as he can remember. Kai unexpectedly falls in love with Byron and together they search for who is trying to end Byron’s life. Is Kai able to push his task aside in order to save the one he loves? Find out in Emissary. Emissary is full of twists, turns, and loveable characters with relatable feelings. I could not put this book down. It grabbed me from the beginning. The scenery depicted makes you feel like you are living the story with Kai and Byron. Full of action, mystery, and romance, Emissary is a must read. It is a great prequel to the Star Crossed Celestials series, or even as its own novel. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
Kai is struggling with the age asked question, follow the values of your beliefs or follow orders you don’t believe are correct.
He is an Emissary of the Celestial beings. His job is to kill demons but not every demon is what they appear. For the first time Kai could remember he is seeing a demon to have emotions of caring, loving, protectiveness. Kai isn’t sure what to do with these feelings. He is ordered to kill Byron even as he knows it is not his time. The story of Kai and Byron will take you on a journey that will keep you reading.
Kai is an emissary and this means that he is quite literally an Angel of Death, but instead of a scythe and a cloak, he has black feathered wings and a celestial steel sword, plus the ability to see when it is someone’s time to die, but none of that matters when it is the person you love who died and you who was responsible for it, or at least that is how Kai feels. When he is afforded a chance for redemption, he takes it, he is given the opportunity to rid the mortals of the demons plaguing them, so he takes a chance and goes to work with a Messenger, another who deals out death, but in many ways, is completely the opposite of Kai.
Byron Black is a demon and has fought to survive his whole life, but being the Demonic Martial Arts expert that he is, at least now he can use these skills to do it to support his family at the same time, it has not been an easy road, hiding from those trying to wipe his kind out, but at least for now, he has a roof over his head and his latest winnings can put some food on the table. That is until all hell breaks and his home becomes one of the latest victims of the Messengers feud against demons, he has to run and protect his family again at all costs, so when he gets the chance to give his life for theirs, he does it willingly.
Unbeknownst to either Kai or Byron, they are about to meet in an encounter which will change both their lives forever when Kai save Byron from what he feels will be his demise, but it is not yet his time and Kai will not see another innocent slaughtered of he can help it. As Byron flees, Kai believes that it will be the last time he will see the beautiful Demon, however, fate has other plans and the two meet again under similar circumstances, but will Kai be able to find out why this particular demon is such a high priority target and overcome his own demons in order to save the one he is now fighting for, or will his angelic family rip them part before they have a chance to begin? This is a steamy MM romance with a supernatural element as the battle between angels and demons rages, while love tries to find a way to being secrets out of the dark and turn darkness into light, in this high octane story which will hook you in from the very start and leave you wanting more.

Morrow – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.
Emissary gripped me from the very first page and never let go. Kai is an angel of death and from the moment we begin learning about him, I couldn’t get enough. He despises demons until he meets Byron. Kai couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw what he thought to be an innocent demon…because those don’t exist in his dark life. Byron has had a hard enough life, so to be spared by death was a miracle all in itself. They find an unusual match in each other, and the chemistry comes to life in this beautiful story. The author did an amazing job weaving suspense, forbidden love, and adventure all into one. I highly recommend it especially if you love MM paranormal romance! I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us next!
I really enjoyed this mm romance. It has all the elements I love for a paranormal romance. The danger and the secrets and lies to be uncovered. The author does an amazing job of bringing the characters and the story to life and I love the play on angels and demons. Sworn enemies so we are always told. Kai and Byron story is a very deep and emotional journey. Both of them have had troubled pasts and both are struggling to find their way in the world. The one thing that makes them the same is the attraction they feel towards each other even though one is an angel and one a demon.
Kai is the angel of death. He has been sent to earth the keep the humans safe by getting the demons under control. Kai also has his own demons to fight. After losing his true love he is finding it hard to carry on and struggling to get through day by day. That is until he meets Byron. Byron is a demon fighter. He’s had a tough upbringing too and has struggled to make it where he is today. When Kai and Byron meet the connection is instant but there is one problem Byron is the demon that Kai is supposed to destroy. Who wants Byron killed? Is it someone from his past or present? Can Kai destroy the only other person he has feelings for since he lost his true love. And what would the consequences be if he let his heart decide?
This story is action packed, full of twists and secrets that I just didn’t see coming.
This is an interesting take on the world of demons and angels. Kai is an angel of death and he has been trained from birth to kill. He has been taught that demons are evil and do not have emotions but that all changes when he meets Byron. The young demon shows Kai how wrong everything he has been taught is. When Kai is assigned to kill Byron, he begins to question things and lies begin to unravel as Kai and Byron fight to survive. I enjoyed meeting Kai and Byron. The two are good together and their story pulled me in right from the start. The two quickly endeared themselves to this reader. Kai has gone through a lot in his life and he is surviving but the pain has left its mark. Byron is a young man who sees the good in Kai and trusts him to keep them safe. It was nice to watch their relationship take shape as the two work to figure out why Byron has been targeted. I also enjoyed seeing the relationship and interactions of Byron and his family. Their story moves at a good pace and I was immersed in the world and characters that the author has created.
Emissary was interesting. I liked it but I’ll be honest I didn’t love it. But I won’t take anything away from the author. What the author presented was well written. If you enjoy MM romance with some protective action, this is a book you should definitely check out. Kai has been assigned to rid the world of demons and watchers. Unfortunately to those above him “the angel of death” cannot justify ridding the world of one demon on his hit list. Byron may be a demon but he has a pure soul. He needs to understand why before going through with his orders. Especially since the stars are telling him otherwise, “that it’s not his time.” It also doesn’t help that he’s attracted to the innocent man. Byron doesn’t understand why the Emissary spared his life. He has one job and that’s to kill his kind. So why him? He can’t deny that this angel is stunning. He wants him despite him being extremely dangerous. Kai, taken aback by how Byron sees him, plans to protect him at all costs. They set out on an adventure to answer the question of, why? While being on the run. I wasn’t a fan of the brutality but I enjoyed the romance and adventure. You may feel differently and this book could be everything you’re looking for. So check it out, because I’m sure no matter what you will find a new potentially favorite author.
Love the stunning cover of this book so I was immediately tuned in and the story was fantastic. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series as this book is more of a “prequel” but it did not deter me from picking up this book and diving in.
I loved the journey of Kai and Byron…..but Kai, who is an Angel of Death, is set out to destroy Byron yet totally drawn to him instead..Kai destroys watchers and demons. Bryon believes that Kai has an ulterior motive but cannot stay away….and as Kai is initially feeling conflicted in his feeling and draw toward Byron. When Kai saves Byron’s life instead of destroying it, will Kai and Byron find anything hidden truths in this fight for survival? Will they deny their chemistry?
This story is fantastic. I love the chemistry between Kai and Byron. Suspense, demons, twists and turns. I am looking forward to diving into more of this series!!!
I love the world building in this series. The characters are detailed and amazing. This is a great story that will keep you turning the pages. Danger, Suspense, Steam – it’s got everything!
I have never been much of a romance reader but this book really pulled me in! I really enjoyed the excitement and adventure and the interesting world surrounding them! The action and intensity in this book really keeps you on the edge of your seat and craving for more. I could not put this book down and loved the unique relationship between Kai and Byron and how they came from different worlds but found that they really had a strong attachment to one another. The storyline was very interesting and the twist I did not see coming. A great read from start to finish and would recommend for anyone, even if you don’t think romance is your cup of tea try this one it takes you on a whole different adventure!
Kai is known as an Emissary, or Angel of Death, who along with Messengers are those that hunt down and destroy Watchers and demons. His life is full of darkness and loneliness, and he has become even more lonely after an error in judgement caused the death of his true love. Kai’s life revolves around following orders dictated by the stars, so he finds himself conflicted when he is ordered to kill a demon named Byron, but the stars tell him that it is not Byron’s time for death yet.
Byron is a demon who has had a rough life and has struggled to survive in a world where death chases after him constantly. Someone wants Byron dead, and he feels that death will be inevitable when he meets Kai. Instead, Kai not only saves his life but teams up with him to find out who is trying to kill Byron. The two find themselves on the run as they race to get to the truth behind who the person responsible is. Their time together draws them closer and their attraction to one another grows more intense.
This book was an intense, action-packed read from start to finish. The author did an amazing job of vividly describing the worlds of each character, and each scene jumped off the pages. Kai and Byron’s relationship is complex due to Kai being an Emissary and Byron being a demon but the attraction they feel towards one another is undeniable. Complicating matters farther is the feelings that Kai has about the tragic loss of his true love which leave him feeling remorse and sadness. I found their storyline interesting and loved the idea that just because you are an Angel does not mean that you are any better than a demon. Kai and Byron may have been from two different worlds, but their relationship worked. The storyline of who Byron’s father was took me by surprise and I can honestly say that I never saw that twist coming. A great read from start to finish.

Emissary (Star-Crossed Celestials Duet) Can be read as a standalone but if you read this one I would recommend you definitely read Watcher by this author as this story is also a Prequel to that one. This is the second time picking up a book by author A. L. Morrow and again knocked it out of the park. She wrote another tantalizing story. It’s also another m/m story. With some steamy bits between Kai and Byron. After reading Watcher I was interested in seeing what else the author had in-store and I’m glad I picked it up 😊 I’ll be on the lookout for the sequel to the first book.
The Silent Road by S.N. McKibben is a long-haul trucker MM romance with plenty of emotion, complicated family dynamics, anger, angst, a sexual awakening/discovery of sorts, a quest for redemption, and drama it had a bit of a Big Rig “Brokeback Mountain” feel to it all. The characters are complex with their own personalities, quirks, and flaws. I found it hard to connect with them, especially Dan- which made it hard to invest in them or the story. We ‘hear’ the story from Dan’s POV, which I think added to my frustration because I didn’t really ‘like’ him much, and that caused me more discontent. I think if we got to see the story from another/other perspectives, then that would have given the story an added element interest and added much more depth, balance, and ‘texture’ (for me). I don’t know a lot about long-haul trucking, so that part of the story was definitely interesting. Also, the difficult family dynamics and the quest for redemption added extra angst and emotion to the story, as well as the complications that came with the sexual awakening/feelings that develop/arise along the way.

3.5 stars The Silent Road is the first book I have read this author’s work and I enjoyed her writing style. The story is well written and interesting. It is an MM romance tale that is very emotive with a lot of anger and tension, angst and frustration and more. I wish that this one was told in multiple POV to get the other perspective besides just Dan’s. It would have had a lot more impact if the story was told in multiple POV. I really liked Jake but Dan left a lot to be desired it took the whole book to redeem himself if only a little. My brother does long haul driving, the long hours, the isolation and tiredness just to name a few so I can understand the effects it has on people which made it easier to understand the MC’s position a bit better. It had it all and lost it all. He needs to redeem himself to those he has wronged. An unexpected turn of events is now leading him towards something he never thought he would want. He is unaccustomed to these feelings. I hope there is more to this story as I felt there is something more for them it felt a bit unfinished for them.
This book really caught my attention from the minute I read the blurb and I just knew this was a book was going to have to read. I wasn’t disappointed either. The characters in this book were fantastic. Their connection felt so real and relatable. I wanted to know more about them and watch how their relationship progressed. And for me, it wasn’t just about the characters in this book. The storyline was just as strong and engaging. Although it was a prequel I thought this author did a great job at tying everything together. This author is one that I always really enjoy and this book is no exception. I am already looking forward to whatever comes next.
This book is so good. It is a very in depth look at what it is like to live with a deep secret and what happens when your secret comes to light. This story is filled with amazing characters with stories that definitely tug at your heart strings. It has some steam but that is not the focus of the story rather the focus is at finding who you really are, who you can trust and who and what really matters. This book is phenomenal with characters I truly loved. I definitely recommend this book!
This story has it all. Romance, family life, fights, self awareness and a MM relationship. I love a good truckers story! This one however took me into a place I had not read too much about. Dan has had his world rocked, when an officer pulls him over. With no license he gets himself on a different road. But he will do whatever it takes to keep his promise to his daughter. Even drive with another driver until he can get his California drivers license. He is short of money for his daughter’s college and driving with another driver could get him what he needs. Jake is his probation rider, and a complete rule follower. No speeding, nothing to ruin his perfect driving record. He also is homosexual and Dan is not comfortable driving with him. So with no spoilers you will need to read this story. The author is new to me. Her writing is clear and fast paced. This story kept me reading and the characters are easy to fall for. And the relationship between these two men is quite informative. I look forward to reading more from this author.
First off, I want to say that it was refreshing to read a novel based in the trucking world. I could totally relate to the story. Being a trucker’s wife can suck, but reading about the feelings of everyone on the road was insightful, even being a fiction book. Dan is dealing with a lot. Getting found out for not having a license, having dyslexia; and trying to help his daughter. Toss in Jake and the feelings he develops and the antagonists Troy and Steve…. This book was remarkable. As I sad, the author wrote almost as if they had experienced some of it. Totally realistic story. My emotions were all over the place with this story. Two people trying to deal with hard feelings and baggage. All they want to do is live in peace. You have to read this story, it will touch you. It is M/M, not my usual genre but the story could be anything and it still touches human motion. The ending of the book got me right in the feelers. This is a new author for me. I hope to read more.
This book was very enjoyable. Not only were there steamy scenes but really raw and heartbreaking moments. I both loved and hated that this story shows what this gay man goes through for simply being himself. Dan stands up for Jake even though he is confused about his own feelings and is very upset that someone would have to go through that. I really enjoyed watching Dan realize his own feelings and tell Jake how he really feels, he may not be able to promise forever, but he can live in the right now. It was also nice to get a small glimpse into the day of a trucker, I like how this was all happening within a weeks time so it just felt current. Wonderful MM romance.
This was my first book with a male relationship with sexual scenes. I’m not sure it is something I’d go out of my way to read a whole genre of but definitely thinks everyone should try a new book at least once, you never know what you may be into. The story itself had everything you look for in a book; love, family, fights, and real world issues. It was well written and had the right amount of detail. Dan is trying to get pay for his daughter’s college when an annoyed cop pulls him over causing a chain of events to occur. Now he is stuck with a homosexual riding partner so he can get his CDLs. Will Dan learn new things about himself? Will his daughter’s college be paid for? Will Dan find love in the place he never knew existed?
I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting read for me. The author does an amazing job of allowing the reader into Dan’s head and you really get to understand all the confusing feelings and emotions he goes through as he discovers his feelings towards Jake are moving to something deeper than just work mates. Dan is a hard character to like at first with his thoughts and feelings towards Jake being very vocal and not in a positive way. Dan is hard work and sometimes hard to like. Jake on the other hand is a caring soul. He embraces his sexuality and isn’t ashamed of it. As they journey together they learn more about each other and circumstances bring them closer together than either of them thought possible. Will Jake turn out to be the missing piece in Dan’s life without him even realising he was looking in the wrong place all along? This book is beautiful to read and see the characters growth through out really made this book a great captivating read
