Initially I wasn’t sure about this story but wow did it suck me in! It was so fast-paced and always surprises you! It was so refreshing for the main female lead, EmVee, dabbles in dark magic. Adds a nice twist! And of course the sexy male lead is to die for. Can’t wait to read What comes next!

I loved loved loved this book. I was hooked again just like I was in what was technically book 0. EmVee is still absolutely amazing and just a super bad butt chick. This story was fast passed and had drama, emotion, fighting, romance and just all the things. Highly recommend if you like fantasy and just great books!

Dudes in fast cars – LOVE it! Add in paranormal and magic and I’m in heaven! I haven’t read anything by this author before but actually quite enjoyed this book. It’s marked as book 3.5 in the series; and whilst it’s a stand alone read, I think character wise I would have benefited from reading the previous books. It was still enjoyable though…..
This is definitely not a book I would normally read but I really enjoyed it. The author did leave a cliff hangar at the end of the book.

FIRST, the cover- I am absolutely obsessed. The color scheme is so pretty and the art is lovely. This was a great read that was hard to put down! EmVee was so interesting and multidimensional- she was a great character to watch grow throughout the novel. The story development was incredible- the magic was so wonderfully described and scenes were descriptive enough for me to imagine myself within the pages. I’m glad this was my final read for July because it ended with bang!

Plenty within these pages This book had a bit of everything YA lovers would enjoy. Magic, paranormal beings, other worlds and strong characterisation. There’s action and cool weapons too. The author does a brilliant job of bringing this world to life. The MC was a bit slow on the uptake at times, but this isn’t a big issue. A really engaging read.

a href=”https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43199682-caged-fire” style=”float: left; padding-right: 20px”>Caged Fire by L.M. Preston My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Caged Fire is a story that is filled with werewolves, action and romance. Emvee thought that she had lost her family but it turns out that they were captured by the Overlord. The Overlord is the villian in this story who wants to take over the Earth Realm and the Void where humans and people with magical abilties get trapped. There is a lot of lore in this story that is unique such as the women being soul trainers who are strong, fierce warriors. Whereas, the men are soul thiefs who are forced to do the Overlord’s bidding. Unlike most romance stories, there is alot of action in this book but the fight scenes were very cool and descriptive. Emvee and Kayson’s relationship develops throughout the story. So when the time comes for them to finally be together, the reader can give a deep sigh of relief. Caged Fire is a great book for someone who loves action movies and the paranormal.

5 Stars Caged Fire (The Vigilant Book 1) by LM Preston
Caged Fire is the first book in The Vigilant Series and is a YA/Fantasy that once you start reading there’s no putting it down until you’ve finished. This pucks up right where the prequel left us. There’s twists and turns that had me turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen next. This is a fast paced story packed with action, suspense, drama and romance. EmVee is a badass plain and simple. She was changed by dark magic and is going through changes she doesn’t quite understand. She’s trying to figure everything out and at one point has to visit the past. This is a wonderfully written story that has a lot going on at once. But man what an adventure. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait for the second book. I’m very intrigued to see how this all plays out.

After reading the prequel I was really looking forward to starting this book, and picked it up immediately. This book was just as good as that one, just more detailed and with even more excitement. The story is a bit of a slow build, the author developing it bit by bit, but I found that just drew me in more. I wanted to get further into the story and I really wanted to read more about EmVee. As the second book in the series this has made me more excited about what is to come. The author is creating a strong and interesting series and I can’t wait to see where that takes us.

This is a great prequel story and it was really good to be able to add it to the series. I loved the new perspective it gave and the extra detail it provided. The book was well written and really easy to engage with. I was pleased that I read this first as it gave me a bit more of an expectation for the next book and it caught my attention enough to want to read that straight way. The author has created a book that, for me, is a brilliant example of a prequel done well.

A few years have passed since someone tried to kill her. EmVee and her dad have been on the run ever since, trying to run from their problems but now it is catching up.
When her father disappears, she finds out about his debt and favor being collected.
A glance of Kayden can’t be good either. With nowhere to run and unsure who to trust, EmVee goes to find out who is after her and her father.
I noticed that the author has more books in this series. There were so many twists and turns as well as emotional parts of the story that surprised me but I enjoyed the novel.
I’m not sure where the story is going next but I can’t wait to find out,

EmVee moves to the middle of nowhere town of NewPort. Her parents won’t tell her the reason for the sudden move. Although EmVee is curious, she also decides to reinvent herself as the new girl at a new school. She meets various other students including football players Silas and Kayson, Megan who talks a lot and Rachel, a girl who works at her parent’s gym.
Secrets start to be revealed, when athletes are murdered and cheerleaders goes missing. In the midst, is a mystery of who is trying to attack EmVee’s family. She takes it upon herself to find out.
I was pleasantly surprised. Within the first couple of chapters, I was hooked. I know why it is part of the Vigilante series after reading this. The groundwork for this seems solid and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

This was the first book I ever read by LM Preston, and it honestly sucked me in within the first couple of chapters. She does such an amazing job building the background of the story and getting the reader invested in the characters. EmVee and her family have recently moved from New York to a “middle of nowhere country town” of NewPort. Her parents are very secretive on why they suddenly moved. While EmVee is confused and slightly curious about the sudden move and the hush her parents have around it she becomes focused on school and “who” she wants to be.
In a new town EmVee finds herself wanting to reinvent herself in her new little town at her new school. She wants to be a “girly-girl” to the extent that she’s not in fights and being seen as another one of the guys. On the first day of school a whirlwind of things happens for EmVee. She meets two of the local football players, Kayson and Silas, both of whom seem to like her already. Though she is instantly drawn to Silas. In history class she meets Megan, a chatter mouth that loves to spread all the news she can. Meets Rachel, a fellow student that works at her parents’ gym, who becomes her first female best friend. Goes to the local club that Megan invited her too, dragging Rachel along so she’s not alone with the hard to be around Megan. While inside EmVee meets another football player, Grady, only to later discover his murder scene in the woods outside the club. After the current events and stories Megan has told her EmVee becomes more and more concerned about why her family suddenly moved when she finds contracts that tie her parents’ gym, the local club, Club Fixation, and a secret underground lab all seem to be related. Ten murdered athletes, ten missing cheerleaders, the secrets come out and shock you. After being attacked EmVee and her family are given a chance to escape NewPort. Until her family’s vehicle goes off the side of a bridge. She is saved and told her family is being helped but she has one goal. To find who is responsible and kill them.
The story, the ending, the details. Everything. If you love a mystery with twists and turns that you can’t put down, this introduction to the Vigilant series is highly recommended. I can’t wait to read Book One, Caged Fire, and see what happens next.

This book follows EmVee and her family after they move to a new town. It is a great story about a girl doing what she can for her family. EmVee is a fighter with the hopes of taking that dream farther. You get to follow her on her journey to discover more about the mysterious new town her family has ended up in.
The book has a great storyline that is pretty easy to follow. It’s a great starter book for someone who has not read too much in the fantasy genre. I have not read much fantasy in the last few years so this was a great option. The fantasy aspect is not just thrown into your face which was a nice change from some other books in the genre.
It was very well written and I enjoyed that it was a quick read. I enjoyed that once I got sucked into the novel, I could finish the whole thing versus having to put the book down to sleep or go to work.

EmVee is going through some changes and she’s not sure she completely understands it all. Then she seems Kayson, someone from her past, who doesn’t quite belong in this present day picture but she’s going to have to learn to deal with him. So much has changed since her dad made a decision to move the family to “Rhode Island” and there are more and more questions with each passing day. Friendships become strained, new ones are formed, and an alliance that is bonding takes place too!
I loved this book and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure! There is a lot of action in this read and I look forward to more of this story. There are several story lines that I’m hoping will be covered in this series. I will say, this book took some twists that I wasn’t quite expecting but they all turned out well!

I love supernatural and paranormal type books and this really fit the bill. I love how the author brings the characters to life. The story has enough drama in it and has just the right touch of romance to balance out. The story has an original plot and story line.
I love how there is a beginning of monsters aren’t real and then wham all you thought was make believe is real. This really just made the book for me. I like how the chemistry evolves between the main characters and blossoms. I really look forward to reading more from this series and author.

From there, she struggles between finding her family, figuring out the family secrets, and figuring out if she could trust this person from her past. Full of relatable characters, Caged Fire keeps the reader guessing and intrigued. Caged Fire is unique and there was not a single moment I did not like. Emotions such as confusion, love, mistrust, betrayal, and others are clearly portrayed and makes the reader feel right along with the characters. Caged Fire is a must read. It is a quick, fun read that will keep you guessing. I highly suggest reading the prequel Insatiable Darkness first, as it sets the stage for Caged Fire, but you would not be entirely lost if you decided not to. In all, Caged Fire is a must read!

Caged Fire is Book One in The Vigilant series by L.M Preston. It comes after the novella length prequel that set us up for the series. This story continues what we started in the prequel and is another intriguing YA fantasy with even more going on for EmVee and co. She is in the thick of things here, facing challenges and situations she never even contemplated only a short while ago. Events have left her shaken. Now she has little choice but to confront the past, monsters, and so much more- life is about to test her like never before. I wonder where we go from here. So, I’m off to explore Book Two… Happy Reading!

EmVee has just moved to a new town with her parents where they have opened a new business and they all have a passion for boxing and EmVee herself has a dream to go semi-pro with it and although this new place is small, she is hoping that she can still achieve that dream. So when she heads to school for her first day, all she can think of is that all the jocks are drop dead gorgeous and the cheerleaders are stunningly beautiful, but they are also quite strange, not to mention the other pupils there as well, who are also a bit unusual, but as soon as she arrives, she is befriended by two of the jocks, Kayson and Silas.
As she settles into a new routine and making new friends, she notices that things are a bit off and starts to worry that her parents have gotten in a bit over their heads and EmVee starts to suspect that things are not what they seem and she decides to investigate, but will she and her friends be able to solve the mystery before things go from bad to worse and the danger becomes too much? This is a fantastic prequel which gets you hooked into the mystery and the characters in the series in the best possible way and leaves you wanting more.

This one was a great start to a thrilling new series. I loved the characters and what they had brought to the table. They had their own sense of drama, being funny, and going after what the journey would bring. The book had a lot of action and great description of visual effects. The author really crafted a magical book, and I could not put this one down. I loved the pace of the story as well. I could not let this go. The talk of magic and how it played its part was wonderful and full of intrigue as well. I could not get enough of this wonderful book. It was a epic journey and adventure, that I long to take again!
Again, love this author for all that they create! This book was such a fun and thrilling read. I can’t wait for the next installment! Highly recommend this must-read book, and awesome start to a new series

You leap right in and hit the ground running with this short story. Caged Fire is fast-paced and action packed. It is a paranormal story mixed with fantasy and science fiction. It is written in the third person so it took me a while to get into flow of it. Lots of action and suspense, betrayal and mystery, love and sacrifice see our heroine on a journey to find her dad’s killer.
Emvee was changed in a world full of magic and werewolves. A dark world she knew nothing about. Now she needs help but she has no idea who she can to trust.
The story leaves you with many more mysteries left to be answered.

4 Stars Insatiable Darkness (The Vigilant Book 0) by LM Preston
Insatiable Darkness is the prequel to The Vigilant Series and is a YA/Fantasy that’s packed with mythology, mystery, drama, and some supernatural. This is a very short story that can be read in one sitting. This is a fairly new author to me and I look forward to seeing what other books she has written. I was very intrigued by the storyline and the characters. The characters are fun relatable and fully developed. This is a story about EmVee. EmVee and her family move to a new town where her parents run a gym. They are professional Boxers and Emvee is as well. She starts a new school where something weird is happening. Several sports students have gone missing and whoever is doing it is leaving behind certain parts. Can they figure out who it is and why before its too late? There’s a couple of twists and turns that had me turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I don’t want to give away to much but I do highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

EmVee refused to believe in monsters, until she became one. They say you can’t run away from your problems. EmVee knew from experience it was true. She and her father tried to run, until the truth came and got them. Now with nothing to lose, she must confront the monster that changed her life forever. Unfortunately, she has to work with his best friend, Kayson who she is almost sure, isn’t quite as nice as he seems. Kayson revealed not just why her father disappeared, but a new world of magicals that wanted the debt he left behind to be paid.

EmVee and her family moved to a new town called Newport. It did not take long for EmVee to realize that there was something strange about this town and find that her family was in danger. Insatiable Darkness follows EmVee while she tries to find who is threatening her family, unknowingly endangering her life as well. The characters in Insatiable Darkness are relatable and mysterious. The story is full of twists, turns, and surprises. Some of the wording was awkward, making it not flow as smoothly as it could, which is why I did not rate it a 5-star. Still, Insatiable Darkness is a fun, quick read and sets the stage for the next book in the series.

Very quick introduction to the series. EmVee is the new kid in town, who moved in with her trained boxer parents. In an effort to make an impression, EmVee quickly makes some friends and gets the notice of a couple of good looking high school guys. After getting herself in trouble a couple of times, she has to resort to sneaking out to find out what brought her parents here, any why kids are going missing.
This book offers lots of surface information, and quickly. It doesn’t get terribly involved, but keeps you interested in the story and coming back for the next in the series!

Emvee is an adorable character and the genre is right up my alley. Emvee is moved to a new town for her parents’ work. Unfortunately, it’s not that black and white. Also, who doesn’t love a little love triangle.

EmVee has just moved to a new town with her family. Her parents own a gym, which caters to those of the MMA world. EmVee is training to be a MMA fighter. Everything about this town seems all cool at first, until school starts. There is a lot of suspicion, EmVee learns, about the house that her parents have chosen for them to live in. Some very sinister things have apparently taken place here. Oh, and this school is full of some hot boys but EmVee has sworn off dating. Guys don’t like her once they find out she’s a fighter. EmVee is trying her hardest to change her hardcore image but this girl at school is draining her social battery faster than she can handle. Can she shake her off while keeping this new image?
This is a prequel and a super short, one sitting read. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline, and the action that takes place. I look forward to reading more of this series!

This book is amazing. I was entranced from the minute I started reading. EmVee and Kayson seemed to have the most chemistry but then there was Silas. Rachel seems like a good friend, and then there is Megan. I don’t think any of these people are what they seem and EmVee is stuck trying to figure out why her family was brought to this town in the first place, what her dad has to do with any of it. The ending of course left me dying for more, I can’t wait to see what happens next!
