Murky Murder by Hazel Smith – Review by Kat Mellon

Murky Murder (A Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery, #4)Murky Murder by Hazel Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murky Murder: An Utterly Addictive Cozy Murder Mystery (A Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery Book) was such a fun book! Seems odd to say that about a murder mystery, but it really was. Despite the title, the book was still rather lighthearted and fun to read. I loved the quirky group of women that work at the Hotel Lafontaine and the budding romance between Ivy and Mr. Humphrey. It is rather slow in the beginning but picks up speed and maintains throughout. I recommend and would read more by this author.

Notebook Mysteries ~ A Party to Remember by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Kat Mellon

Notebook Mysteries ~ A Party to RememberNotebook Mysteries ~ A Party to Remember by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Notebook Mysteries ~ A Party to Remember was such a great an easy read to fall into! My last book was super deep and dark and this was exactly what I needed. I was not aware that it was a series, but the author did a wonderful job introducing all the characters in such a way that I was able to keep up but I feel would not have been redundant to those who did not jump right into the middle. A definite page turner, I was captivated all the way from cover to cover. Would definitely recommend!

Sins of the Father by Winter Austin – Review by Kat Mellon

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sins of the Father: The McIntire County Series: #3 WHOA! Loved this book! I was hooked from the first book and was so excited to see how the author was going to keep the series going. The world building is great and I love how it continues to build on the previous books, but yet i don’t think you really need to read them to be able to follow along, which is great if you’re jumping into the series with this book. Onto book 4!!

Flowers of Evil by N. L. Holmes

Flowers of Evil (Hani's Daughter Mysteries Book 1)Flowers of Evil by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed Flowers of Evil by N. L. Holmes. Egyptian times have always fascinated me and I absolutely love the world that Holmes created! Bringing ancient times to life, painting vivid scenes and characters but also relatable. you can feel the injustice and unfairness of how Neferet and Bener-ib are treated because of their gender.
Of course, with rich worlds and deep characters comes a lot of lengthy paragraphs of descriptions, which can be harder for me to fall into. But I had no issues with this one, as it captured my interest and imagination completely. Really looking forward to the next one!

Whisper Creek by Valerie Davisson – Review by Char Wahtomy-Alba

In this book Logan has accepted the proposal of her long-term boyfriend, Ben. On top of that great news she has also become YouTube famous when one of her students puts her music on the video platform for the world to hear. It has amassed millions of views which in turn has started to generate her money. Afraid that it will destabilize the monetary dynamic she and Ben have, she decides a trip to Oregon will help clear her head. While in Oregon at The New School she is roped into playing her violin in the staff talent show. When everyone has done their act and are getting congratulated all around she takes her friends dog out for a bathroom break and discovers a body. Who hated this woman enough to want her dead? When several of her friends and co-workers at the school become prime suspects she dons her detective hat to clear their names. Is Logan going to be a help or a hindrance?

Another great book in the Logan McKenna series. From the very first book she has quickly become one of my favorite characters to follow. I don’t know how many books the author plans on writing for this series, but I will be sad to see it end!

Murder Among Friends by Linda Burson – Review by Meg Jones

Murder Among FriendsMurder Among Friends by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murder Among Friends is an incredibly entertaining romantic mystery. Main character Cammy is incredibly smart and seems to notice every little detail. All of the character development was beautifully written and it seems each character grew as the story went on. Just when I thought it was predictable, Linda Burson (author) throws in plot twist after plot twist.
I felt that the character’s names in the dialogue was overused, but that is probably because it is written in third person-present tense. It is hard to write in that tense and be able to keep up with characters if you don’t use names. That is the only reason I gave it four stars.
I definitely recommend this book.

Murder at Honeybee Lake (Shadow of Doubt Book 2) by Jessica Aiken-Hall – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

He feels safe here and finds solace after getting out of an abusive relationship. While out enjoying the beauty of the lake Ben discovers a dead body. When he is arrested for murder he doesn’t know what to do or who to call. His sister Mandy steps in and calls the last person Randy wants to see. Will he refuse the help and take his chances or will he accept the help and hopefully beat this charge? When Mandy hears the news about Randy she drops everything to prove her brothers innocence. But when her sister-in-law who can communicate with the dead points the finger at Randy who is she to believe? Will they be able to find the culprit before Randy has the book thrown at him?

This is the second book in the Shadow of a Doubt series. Just like with the first book in the series, Rebecca Remains, the main characters keep you invested. I have come to enjoy books by this author very much. Due to some of the content talked about in this book I would not recommend it to anyone under the age of 18. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series. I can’t wait to see what the author has up her sleeve.
