Our Ivy girl is at it again.

Ivy is like so many other “ detectives” they irritate the police yet they can’t solve their cases without them , a real love hate relationship if you like and a great source of Entertainment for me 😉 thank you Ivy and company ❣️📚

I’ve been an Ivy fan for quite sone time and this time was no different.

Someone is sending letters and we have a dead guest on our hands and Ivy and her “team” need to solve the case before another body is added to the count ….

I’m a sucker for a cozy mystery and Ovy is a firm favourite 🥰

This is a fun quick cozy murder mystery. I didn’t realise this book is the fourth in a series but I enjoyed it anyway, so you don’t necessarily have to read the rest of the series first. I find the cozy murder genre to be a bit of a comfort read type but this was made better by the fact that the characters are quirky rather than smart. Every page leaves you hanging and you just can’t put the book down. I love an escapist read and this gives in spades.

Murky Murder (A Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery, #4)Murky Murder by Hazel Smith

Murky Murder was a cute, cozy, and heartwarming mystery!

Life is looking good for Ivy. She has been promoted to the new head maid at Hotel LaFontaine, and her first date with her boss, Max Humphrey, was a success except for one creepy interruption, someone rushing into the restaurant brandishing a knife. However, it was short-lived and the hooded man left almost as quickly as he appeared, escaping security.

The hotel is all abuzz with a business conference with many successful, elite businessmen and women arriving. Nothing ruins success like a murder, and that is just what happens not long after guests arrive. One of the guests is found in his room, and there are plenty of suspects as he isn’t the most liked person. If that wasn’t enough, Ivy discovers that the random person who came running towards their table at dinner on their first date wasn’t random. It seems like someone has something against Max as cryptic and threatening notes begin to appear.

I love quirky characters, and Murky Murder is packed with them. I love Ivy. She is tenacious and so likable. She is determined to discover who the murderer is and how it connects to herself and Max. Max was just as likable as Ivy was, and the two make a great team. I’m so glad that the romance between the two of them is not rushed. It’s utterly charming!!! The addition of great secondary characters and the dogs made it even better! There are some twists and turns and no shortage of suspects that kept the book rolling along at a great pace.

This book is the 4th in the series, and while it was very easy to read without any confusion from not reading the earlier books, I liked it so much that I would love to go back and read the prior books. It reminds me of my favorite TV mysteries on PBS and Brit Box, and it was a perfect way to spend the day… helping Ivy solve the case and drinking a nice cup of hot tea.

So I started this series with this book, which is book 4. I definitely liked this book as a standalone mystery. Hazel Smith is a wonderful storyteller and Murky Murder is incredibly atmospheric with its descriptions of the hotel, its characters, including Ivy’s Great Dane Monty, and the mysterious circumstances of the murder itself. Lives are quite literally on the line and it’s a thrilling rush to the finish. I think all cozy mystery lovers should give this a chance.

Murky Murder by Hazel Smith is the 4th book in the Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery series. I’m sure this book is a great addition to the series, however, I’ve never read any others. It was a fine stand-alone book, though some things probably would’ve been better within the full context.

It follows Ivy, a maid at LaFontaine, newly promoted to Head Maid, during a weekend business conference. Things seem to be going well until a mysterious and cryptic letter arrives shortly before a guest is murdered. Ivy, her friends, and the police work together to solve tye case. It was a nice, quick read with a little romance between the mystery.

This was a great cozy mystery to read! I read this one first even though it was the fourth in the series. I plan to go back and read the others now after enjoying this so much. I didn’t find it hard to read even though I had not read the others first. I have recently started to love a good mystery read. I really enjoyed the characters in the story and the way the author writes. The author did a great job of keeping you guessing until the end on who was guilty. I also really love Ivy the main character and cannot wait to read more about her in the other books!

This is the first book I have read by Hazel Smith, and it was an absolute delight! Murky Muder is the 4th book in the series, but it can be read as a stand-alone book. Even though it can be a stand-alone, I will be going back and reading the previous books, as I have fallen head of heels for these quirky characters. It is a lighthearted cozy mystery book for all ages. The entire book is a whodunit feeling, and it doesn’t make it easier to guess, considering every person is hiding a secret.

Ivy has just been promoted to head maid at the Hotel LaFontaine and has just gone her first date with her boss, the owner of the Hotel, Max (Sir Maximillian Humphrey). Their date went wonderful, all except a crazed hooded person running towards their table with a knife. What Ivy thought was just a one off turns into a series of mysterious events. Starting off with a creepy cryptic letter the hotel receives, which is followed by a guest, being murdered. Just as you begin to think you know what is going on, the author throws in another great suspect. I did guess the bad guy correctly, but I will say, I made myself second guess a good bit – which I loved!

Such a great quick light book to read! I definitely recommend to anyone who loves a bit of mystery and wants something light or quick to read!

Murky Murder: An Utterly Addictive Cozy Murder Mystery is the fourth book in the A Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery series. Starting in, I was a little confused because this was the first book I read in the series. I quickly learned the key players in the series. Ivy, originally from the Midwest, works in a posh hotel in London. She leads the maids in the hotel but also solves crimes with her co-workers. I enjoyed the characters and Ivy’s interactions with the local police. You can tell she has irritated them with her crime-solving skills in the past. This is a light, cozy mystery that kept me reading until the end. I enjoyed the relationships between the characters and will go back and read the previous books in the series to get insight into how they developed over the series. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

This is the fourth book in the Maid Ivy Cozy Mysteries series. I hadn’t read the previous books in the series before stumbling upon this one and although there is some character background which I feel would have made a great story in the previous books, the story is still enjoyable as a standalone. This ended up being a short but fun read, an enjoyable cosy mystery that was both entertaining and easy to follow.
The author created a fun collection of character who were all able to bring their own skills to the team. They were enjoyable and believable in their own ways, combined they were a quirky mystery solving team.
I look forward to going back and reading the series from the beginning and getting more understanding of the characters and their previous adventures.

This is my first cozy mystery by this author. It reminded me of watching cozy mysteries on TV. Cute.

Ivy has just been promoted to Head Maid at a luxurious hotel in London. Ivy is starting to date her boss, Max. On her first day, a big conference starts, a weird letter appears at the hotel, and there is a semi-threat made towards her boss. It is just another day in the life of Ivy.

When the person issuing the threat to her boss is found dead in his hotel room, the mystery begins. Toss in some questionable business associates, some old rivalries, and a little of the unknown and no we are cooking. As the clues mount with no answers, Ivy struggles to balance the mystery and her new duties.

With help from her friends, Ivy assists the police with the investigation. When the evidence points to an unusual suspect and the police think they have it all tied up, Ivy feels that there are things that don’t quite fit. Then in a plot twist, an unknown surfaces and threatens Ivy! All the pieces start to fit and Ivy manages to save the day and hotel!

If you are looking for a quick, easy read that can take you out of your everyday doldrums, this is it! Enjoy the read!

If I could read books like this everyday, I’d be in reading heaven!! I absolutely loved this book! First of all, it’s a clean mystery read. I’d let my young daughter read this without any qualms. Second, it’s witty and fun to read about Ivy and her new position at work. There is a budding romance that’s very sweet to see develop. I was a little disturbed that Ivy referred to him as Mr. Humphrey, although he is her boss and this is a very new relationship.

Overall, a very enjoyable read! I’m going to be reading more by this author and in this series.

I love a good cozy mystery that makes you curl up under a blanket with something to drink and just read until the end of the book. Which in all honesty is what I did with this one. This book is set in a hotel in London and features Ivy and her family who seem to always be solving mysteries. Ivy is the best kind of heroine, one who finds herself solving mysteries but doesn’t let it interfere with the rest of her life. I definitely recommend this book and I am ordering the rest of the series right now!

Love the writing here, the world building, the way the characters feel like you know them. I would not have guessed the level of suspense and mystery that would abound with what a fun read this was. An entertaining and enjoyable cozy mystery with our heroine of the series Ivy Stone, and once again set in Hotel LaFontaine. Ivy is now the headmaid at the hotel and her first date with her boss Mr. Humphrey’s also went well, so things are going great for Ivy. The hotel is busy with London’s elite who are arriving for a business conference, but Ivy is dealing with a mysterious guest, a threatening letter and then a murder. Ivy turns amateur sleuth along with her friends, who also work at the hotel but all the cryptic letters and secret codes reveal is that everyone is hiding something. It turns out even trusted members of staff have secrets, and when a direct threat is made against Mr. Humphrey things become serious. As Ivy starts to get answers she realises that she might be in danger herself, but as usual Ivy’s fluffy best friend Monty the Great Dane is helping her to sniff out clues! This can be read either as a standalone story or as part of the series. I loved Ivy, she’s a great main character as she’s so likeable and relatable. Whilst her sidekicks are a quirky mix who all bring their own skills to help Ivy investigate. I was hooked from page one by this ‘whodunnit’, and it kept me happily turning the pages. I look forward to returning to Hotel LaFontaine again soon!

Murky Murder is the fourth book in the A Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery series by Hazel Smith. This is my first read from Ms. Smith, so I didn’t know what to expect from one of her stories- but I love a good cozy mystery, so I jumped right in to find out what happens. I also came into this series a little backwards, as I didn’t realise that this is the fourth book in the series- but thankfully, it can be read as as a standalone without feeling like you are missing anything. But, having said that, I enjoyed meeting these quirky characters and am curious about what they got up to in the previous books, so I will go back and read the first three books before continuing on with the rest of the series.

This proved to be a fun cozy murder mystery with a bit of a whodunnit feel. With quirky characters, hotel capers, banter, a little drama, intrigue, and some suspense made for a light-hearted, yet entertaining read.
Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Hazel Smith!

I was intrigued by the quirky cover and decided to give this book a go. I have not read any work by Hazel before and quite enjoyed myself. I will have to go back and read the other books as they can be read as standalones which is no hardship.
Murky Murder is a clean cozy mystery and part of the A Maid Ivy Cozy mystery series. It is a quick but fun read. Not only that but there is some culinary delights to be had along the way.
Ivy the maid is back in another adventure that sees her and her cohorts, the four-legged kind as well as the two, legged kind diving in to yet another mystery. The characters are quirky and eclectic and bring the story to life.
Set in London at the LaFontaine Hotel can Ivy find the person behind the letters and a killer before another one bites the dust. There is a cast of many and a plethora of suspects to work through and Hazel leads them on a merry and twisted chase to find the one responsible for the murder and mayhem.
Hazel has given readers a well written, clever, charming, suspenseful, fun cozy mystery that will delight one and all.
If you like murder mysteries and whodunits with some humour like Ms Marple, Father Brown, and the like you will enjoy this series.
Enjoy!

Murky Murder (A Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery, #4)Murky Murder by Hazel Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have not read the first three of the series, but really enjoyed this book as a standalone novel.

Murky Murder by Hazel Smith is an enthralling mystery novel that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page. Set in the atmospheric backdrop of a hotel, this book takes readers on a thrilling adventure filled with suspense, intrigue, and endless twists and turns. My favorite part was “hearing” Ivy’s thoughts with the author’s clever use of italics.

The story revolves around two main characters, Ivy and Mr. Humphrey, whose lives intertwine in unexpected ways. Ivy, a witty and intelligent young girl, finds herself in the midst of a perplexing murder case when a guest at the hotel is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Determined to unravel the truth, Ivy takes it upon herself to play detective and embarks on a thrilling quest to uncover the culprit.

One of the most compelling aspects of Murky Murder is the atmospheric setting of the hotel. Hazel Smith brilliantly brings it to life, with vivid descriptions that make readers feel as though they are guests themselves. The author’s attention to detail and carefully crafted scenes heighten the suspense and eerie feeling surrounding the murder, making it a perfect backdrop for the unfolding mystery.

The character I resonated most with was Kat, this line says it all- “Thanks for rescuing me from my eternal quest for knowledge with actual sustenance”- I share her love of learning. I also really enjoyed the funny lines about London’s Gherkin!

This was an interesting cozy. Ivy is a very optimistic person. It’s all going good for her and she believes it’s going to get better. Meanwhile, threats are coming in. I enjoyed the story. It really is quite entertaining. The dogs are colorful characters. Ivy and her friends kept the story colorful and engaging. I wanted to follow them as they tried to figure out what was going on. I was not a superfan of her boss. He’s a little sexist. Overall, great read, I’m going to read more of this series.
