Hush, My Darling (Benoit and Dayne Mystery, #2)Hush, My Darling by Winter Austin

Hush, My Darling by Winter Austin is available now in Paperback, Audiobook and eBook
⭐️⭐️⭐⭐⭐ Book Review

Two years ago Deputy Dayne survived a serial killer’s attempt to kill her. Night after night she suffers nightmares that bring the past quickly flashing back. The killer is striking again and the team desperately needs Deputy Dayne on their side but she has shut everyone out. Will the deputy be able to put her fears aside before the killer strikes again?

Hush, My Darling is the second installment in the Benoit & Dayne Mystery series. Although Hush, My Darling is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone with no confusion. Winter Austin writes deadly romantic thrillers that will not disappoint. Full of suspenseful twists and turns Austin has you sitting on the edge of your seat the entire book. Just when you thought you had the mystery figured out she throws another wrench in the plot. The story line was seamless, moving from scene to scene, keeping the reader engaged. I recently read installment three which drew me into this series. Despite reading these out of order, I can’t wait to get my hands on the remainder of the series. Highly recommended!

Hush, My Darling (Benoit and Dayne Mystery, #2)Hush, My Darling by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh man, this was a good one! I was gripped from the beginning and I was kept guessing until the end.
The author wrote this so well – the plot twists and the clues sprinkled throughout were amazingly done and had me suspecting someone then changing my mind with the small details they added. The author definitely knew what they were doing throwing suspicion one way then the other.
The way the characters were written, fit with the twists and suspicions so well whilst also being the ‘perfect’ characters. Their interactions with each other, and the support they offer was great to witness. I went through a whole range of emotions and as I suspected one or another, my feelings about their actions changed as I read on.
I didn’t initially realise this was the second book in the series and although I will go back and read the first book I don’t think I missed anything too important. The author included the important and relevant information which I likely missed out from the first book so I felt like I had all the information I needed to enjoy the story. The thing I lacked from not reading the first is likely another great story.
I can’t wait to read more from this author!

This book was such a great read from start to finish, that I couldn’t wait to know what was going to happen next. The suspense, mystery, was just amazing. The characters Lila and Elizabeth were well developed and so intriguing to read about. The twist and turns in the story were just what I needed to keep me reading and not stop. I’m a big fan of serial killer stuff and books and this was just wonderful. This was the second book to the series, and I have to say I didn’t read the first boo but that didn’t stop from this amazing, wonderful read, and I was never lost that I didn’t know what was going on. I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end.

I know I, like most people, love a good mystery that gets its hooks in you and doesn’t let you go until the last question has been answered, the last puzzle pieces have been put in the right places, and the mystery has been solved! The problem is that most of them that claim that don’t deliver. When I first picked up this book it was in the middle of a series, I had never heard of this author, and while it sounded good I didn’t hold out much hope. I am so glad in this instance to have been wrong as I didn’t have any trouble getting into this book and blowing through to the end, this book definitely delivered and I really enjoyed it. Like most books of its kind you have some familiar characters and things will make the most sense if the books are read in order but they can also be read as a standalone. You should give it a read.

Hush, My Darling (Benoit and Dayne Mystery, #2)Hush, My Darling by Winter Austin

This is book 2 in the Benoit and Dayne Mystery series. Hush My Darling is easily read as a stand-alone and you do not need to read book 1 to follow the story. Since I have not read book 1, I can not say if it directly follows the last book, but in this one, Lila Dayne comes face to face with her nightmare. She is in a new town and starting over from her past, where a serial killer was after her. With a new body now on her hands, she believes her past has come back to haunt her. The story, and especially the characters, was engaging and likeable. The author makes setting up the scenes seem so easy, and you can picture yourself in the story. I will definitely be picking up the 3rd book in the set (and going back to read the 1st one as well!)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lila is running away from her past, she thought she would be safe in the sleep town but when she is called to a dead body thing start running away from Lila.

When Lia was in the Chicago PD she investigated a gruesome serial killer but as they were getting closer to the killer he decided to shut Lila up. When she attacks the killer left physical scars but also emotional ones to, settling in the new town as a Deputy she thought she could push all the nightmares away but when a dead body turns up with the words that were whispered to in the final stages of the attack, she believes he has followed her to finish the job, but when a blast from her past turns up thing just spiral into chaos.

Sheriff Benoit is new to the job but not to the town having grown up there she is determined to clean up the corruption which has rotted in the police department for years, but when dead bodies start showing up and they are linked to one of her deputies, things start taking a turn for the worst and throw into the mix a State trooper and it will be a competition to rush to find who the killer is.

I have just pick this series up at book 2 and I read this easily as a stand alone book. I have not gone back at the moment to read the first book but will do in time. This book had me griped from the first chapter and was intrigued to consume as much of the book in one sitting.

I loved the characters of Lila and Elizabeth two strong females leads and both just as sassy and stubborn as each other, the secondary characters enhanced the story and injected more mystery into the story. I do have to say the plot and twists and turns where excellent and the story flowed and held my interest all the way through. I can’t wait to read more of this duo in the future.

5 Star Review
This is the second book in the Benoit and Dayne Mystery series. This book is amazing in how it takes you through so many twists and turns as you learn more about the life of Deputy Detective Lila Dayne and why she moved from Chicago to the quiet area in Eckardt County. This tale will take you through a rollercoaster of emotions from intrigue to joy, to fear and fright as you follow all the suspenseful twists and turns of the story. This is a book that you will not want to put down the second you pick it up, it starts right off in Chapter 1 with Deputy Detective Lila Dayne reliving the trauma that drove her to run for her life, seeking safety from her past torments. This story also pieces more parts of the puzzle for you about some of the other characters including Sherriff Elizabeth Benoit, ex-sheriff Kelley Sheehan (the mysterious ex-sheriff), Deputy Kyle Lundquist, Undersheriff Raphael “Rafe” Fontaine, and whole gang protecting Eckardt County. If you are a fan of a good murder mystery that keeps you up at night you will want to check out this series!

Hush, My Darling (Benoit and Dayne Mystery Book 2) by Winter Austin – Review by Jamie Burns

Hush, My Darling is the second book in the Benoit and Dayne Mystery series by Winter Austin. I flew through the first book in this series and could not wait to get my hands on the second book! Hush, My Darling did not disappoint! This book had me on the edge of my seat as I completed the investigation with Lila Dayne, the Deputy, and Sheriff Benoit. Two bodies that have similar features make for the possibility of a serial Killer. Will they catch the killer before he/she strikes again? Pick up a copy of Hush, My Darling to find out.

I will have to say that it has been a hot minute since I read a mystery/thriller book that has captivated my attention and immersed me so fully into the action. If you like mystery books, you will LOVE this book!

Although book 2 in the series, I read as a stand alone, and can easily be read as one.
This is a very gripping story that keeps you guessing until the very end. There were a few times I was sure figured it out, but I never did. I really appreciated the characters and their relationships, some of my favorite thrillers are not solely based on the plot but my attachment to the characters. This certainly has the plot and the characters you want to keep reading about. I can’t wait to go back and read book one as well as book 3 in this series.

Wow!! I’m not one to normally pick up a thriller but every time I do, I’m reminded why I need to read them more often. Hush, My Darling takes you on an investigative journey, searching for the I-80 killer once they hit far too close to home for Deputy Lila Dayne. She’s the one who got away and the I-80 killer is coming back after her. I devoured this novel and gasped far too many times as we reached the climax of the story. I am looking forward to reading another one of the Benoit and Dayne Mysteries.

It has been a while since I picked up mystery novel but the cover and title caught my attention.

This focuses on Elizabeth Benoit, who is the sheriff of a small town. She has had hardships of her own to overcome.

With the arrival of new recruit. Lila Dayne, her past may be coming back.

Two bodies surface, with similarities, a serial killer may be the culprit.

I don’t want to give too much away but I recommend this novel.

I hope there is more in this series and I will be reading the first book.

I should preface with this is the second book in the Benoit and Dayne Mystery series and I once again didn’t read the first book first because I was so impatient that once I had this book I immediately devoured it! This book was a thrilling rollercoaster that had my wheels turning over and over. The two main ladies were well thought out and brought an edge to this story that made it over the top in the best way! I was biting my nails like a kid held in suspense and I was drinking it in like a fine wine! I honestly couldn’t say enough good things about the author and how well written she is. She truly spun a web that I was stuck in immediately and when I began to unravel it I was just blown away more and more! Definitely a book that will make its way onto my physical shelf to enjoy over and over!!

A gripping crime thriller full of plot twists and turns that kept me both hooked and guessing until the last page. This is book two in a series featuring, Eckardt County Sheriff Elizabeth Benoit, and Deputy Lila Dayne, however I read it easily as a standalone story. Two years ago Lila survived an attack by a serial killer, but is haunted by dark memories following her many surgeries and rehab. Even as Lila begins to get back to normal, she can still sense him watching her. Meanwhile Sheriff Elizabeth Benoit is determined to bring down Eckardt County’s corruption, but then two bodies are discovered, bearing striking similarities to the serial killer’s victims.
One has a very personal message for her department, and sadly the pressure gets too much for Lila and she pushes everyone away. As Elizabeth tries to stay connected to Lila, the killer is closing in on his next victim and he seems to want to finish what he started. Lila must overcome her fear and trust those around her, as Elizabeth and her deputies desperately try to catch the killer. This is a tense and immersive read, and you can feel the suspense mounting with each chapter. An engaging read which I recommend, and I am keen to read book one in the series now, and hoping for a book three!

One of my favorite things about reading mystery/thriller books is trying to solve it as I go along. Boy- this one was a toughie! The characters are so raw and brilliantly written. I couldn’t decide if Sheriff Benoit was my favorite or Lila Dayne. They were both written so vividly- it was easy to empathize with them. The storyline was fleshed out and had so many twists and turns I had a difficult time putting this book down- even to sleep! I finished this book earlier and I still can’t get it out of my mind. I am officially obsessed with this author and the way they write such haunting stories- I have GOT to read more. This was gripping and definitely worth a read!

This is the second book in this series but it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read book one yet but after reading this one I am definitely going back and reading it because this was such a good read. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know if they were going to find the killer, if the rain was going to stop so the flooding would come to an end. This book was gripping, suspenseful, and hard to put down. Lila Dayne, a deputy has moved to this small town from Chicago after surviving an attack from a serial killer and it looks like he may have found her when a body shows up with a message left just for her. Elizabeth Benoit is the Sheriff and she’s trying to juggle a lot of things all at once, two body’s, flooding, and keeping her opponent at bay. There are quite a few characters in this story and they are what make this such a great story. I highly recommend this book.

This is my first book that I’ve read in this series. I came to find out that this was a second book. You don’t have to read the first book to read this one. This book is a little unique being written in third person rather than 1st person. I enjoyed it a lot. It was like watching my favorite thriller come to life in front of me. Reading this book gave me goosebumps galore. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the author threw me another little breadcrumb. The main protagonist Elizabeth has gone through some hardships of her own, almost dying and learning to balance being a survivor and being the town’s new sheriff. With these new killings going on, Liz has been thrown for a loop. Are these new killings a sign of something far more sinister going on in her county or are they completely unrelated?

Hush, My Darling
By: Winter Austin

Hush, My Darling is the second book in the Benoit and Dayne series. I did not read the first book, but the second book was clear enough that it stood alone and was easy to follow. This book is a page turner and one that I had a very hard time putting down, in fact, I read it in one day. This is unheard of for me! The book opens and we meet Dayne who has just been called to the crime scene. The body they have discovered has a message, one that is meant for Dayne herself. You see, Dayne is the only living survivor of this serial killer. And it seems that the killer has come back for her. This brings Daynes past crashing down around her both figuratively and literally. As Dayne grapples with her past, deciding whether to continue to be a cop and her very complicated love life, we also meet Benoit. Benoit is the new Sheriff in town. She is learning the ropes in a town that feels that she is not capable of the role. She is dealing with unprecedented flooding and now a serial killer is in her town. She deals with who she can trust and if the old Sheriff who is offering his help is trustworthy and has good motives. This story is filled with twists and turns until it comes to one stunning conclusion.

This book is such an easy read. It will immediately suck you in. I read this book in 2 days, I literally could not put it down.
I want to be best friend’s with Elizabeth, everyone needs someone like her in your life. Seriously. Lila makes you seriously think and question so many things through out the entire book. I actually cried at the end because its sad, and happy. I definitely am going to re read this, because you think the killer is a few different people, but at the end everything makes complete sense of who the killer is!
Kyle, you definitely want to be friends with, and you root for his and Lila’s relationship. I cannot wait for the 3rd book! such a wonderful series.

Hush, My Darling (Benoit and Dayne Mystery Book 2) by Winter Austin. This author is fast becoming my very favorite author. I loved the first book and this book was even better. I do recommend reading the first book because this one picks right up where book 1 left off. Its the story of Deputy Lila Dayne who has moved to rural Iowa to be a Deputy. She is moving from Chicago where as a police officer she was almost killed by the I-80 serial killer. Sheriff Elizabeth Benoit swears that Lila will have no trouble in the sleepy town in Eckardt County. What Lila and Elizabeth don’t know is the killer has followed Lila to this little town and is about to start creating havoc. When Lila realizes her greatest fear is back she shuts down and pushes everyone out that can help her. Will Elizabeth and the other deputies be able to pull Lila back in to catch the killer before he takes his next victim and finish what he started with Lila. Read this amazing fast paced series! This is also a brand new author to me but the way that she describes her characters, and the details that she puts into her story line are just simply amazing. I’m a sucker for a good serial killer story and this one was right up my alley.
Two years ago, Lila Dayne was almost a victim of the I-80 killer but survived. After surgery, healing, and therapy, she moves to a small town in Iowa and takes a job as Sheriff Benoit’s Detective Deputy even though she fears the killer’s return.
In the midst of a terrible flood in their area, Deputy Dayne discovers a dead body. She immediately knows the I-80 killer is behind it and spirals out of control knowing he is on the prowl to finish what he started. Can she keep her mind clear enough to help her team find the killer before it’s too late?
I loved this book and didn’t realize it was book 2 of a series until after I got started. It can definitely be read as a stand alone but I’m going back to read book 1 because I loved the characters. The author did a great job making this book thrilling to read and created characters with depth and believability. I’m also looking forward to book 3 when it comes out!

This was a pretty good book! It held my interest which is sometimes something I struggle with when reading new authors and when I haven’t read the first book in a partnership series. This is the first book I have read by this author and didn’t realise that it was the second book until I was over half way through. I didn’t feel like I missed anything because Winter gave us enough information from the first book. So, reading as a standalone is no problem. It is a crime thriller that is suspenseful and intriguing. The story is told in third person and has intense thrills, spills and chills and has a lot of grit. It is a haunting tale of murder and mayhem, vengeance and power, mystery and obsession that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The mixed cast of characters are complex and fully realised and likeable.

This is one series you don’t want to pass by. Prepare to be captivated by Winter’s writing skills.
