Jake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail (Jake the Growling Dog Book 3) by Samantha Shannon – Review by Nakyshia Leger

Jake the Growling Dog Shares His TrailJake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail by Samantha Shannon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My kids absolutely LOVED this story! This is the first Jake book we have read but we will definitely be reading others. Samantha Shannon has created a beautiful way of teaching kids about their world. In this book, Jake and his friends learn about facing fears, leaning on one another in times of need, and making and accepting new friends, even when they are a little different. The story is engaging and gives plenty of opportunity for discussion. As a mother of special needs children, this story warmed my heart. Jake is a fun and loveable, rambunctious little dog that is relatable to children. The pictures in the book are detailed with vibrant and eye-catching colors. They are perfect for helping young readers to follow the story. This definitely is a book that, in my opinion, needs to be read by an adult or slightly more advanced reader, as there are some challenging words, but it makes story time as a family fun!

Cursed Touch (Broderick Coven Series Book 4) by AJ Renee – Review by Nakyshia Leger

Cursed Touch (Broderick Coven, #4)Cursed Touch by A.J. Renee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I’ve read by AJ Renee. It is Book 4 in the Broderick Coven series. The first thing I appreciated about this book was that even though it was a part of the series, I was able to jump right in and understand everything. AJ Renee gave plenty of background and character development throughout the book where I was not lost, even though I hadn’t read any previous books.

This story is about Carter Broderick, a doctor with magical healing powers, who is blindsided by an instant connection to Vanessa Rayne. Vanessa was equally stricken with Carter. Their connection is strong and unexplainable and passionate. It was so enthralling following them getting to know one another on every level. The scenes of passion were well written. Along the way Vanessa gets herself into trouble with her curiosity and Carter is determined to keep her safe. This book is Adventurous, Romantic, and easy to read in one sitting. I am definitely going to check out the rest of the series and get to know the Brodericks more!

Bake Believe AUDIO BOOK by Cori Cooper – Review by Nakyshia Leger

What a cute story by Cori Cooper! I listened with my daughter and she enjoyed it so much. Bake Believe’s main character Cat is a spunky teenager that is unapologetically herself. As she shares her view of the world with us, we learn that like many other teenagers, she is into boys, friends, and living life to the fullest. Cat’s world is turned upside down when a mishap in her school schedule caused the reveal of a huge family secret. The secret has Cat learning to grow and mature while understanding more about herself. This story is fun and inspiring. The narrator Katie Penate did an amazing job portraying each character’s individuality and making the story come to life! If you have a young teen in your life, consider this book.

The Third Nanny (Secrets of Redemption) by Michele PW (Pariza Wacek) – Review by Nakyshia Leger

The Third NannyThe Third Nanny by Michele Pariza Wacek
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Surprising until the very end! I adore books that keep you guessing, and Michele PW kept me guessing. The Third Nanny was so thrilling to read. I quickly fell in love with Janey and wanted nothing more than to see her reunited with her sister. Every character in the book is cleverly written. Twists and turns played with my emotions like not many books can do. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I was proved wrong and surprised again. The biggest shock of all was the ending! I’m so glad I found this book!

Lines by Leon: Poems, Prose, and Pictures by Leon Stevens – Review by Nakyshia Leger

Lines by Leon: Poems, Prose, and PicturesLines by Leon: Poems, Prose, and Pictures by Leon Stevens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book definitely took me by surprise! I am a huge fan of poetry but not knowing this poet left me reserved. However, Leon Stevens did not disappoint. He takes us through a journey of his mind and soul. We get an in depth look at how he feels about many aspects of life from the environment that surrounds us to people and places. I had to read this slowly and often put it down for a bit because it triggered some deep thoughts and emotions for me. Along with his beautiful poetry, Leon Stevens also blesses readers with some of his beautiful artwork. It helped the stories to come to life a little more. I will definitely read this again.

Manifested Dreams by Dr. Yvonne Johnson – Review by Nakyshia Leger

Manifested DreamsManifested Dreams by Yvonne Johnson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nothing teaches you REAL history like the stories passed down from REAL people. In this book, Dr. Yvonne Johnson compiles letters of real life experiences through generations of one family. It was eye opening and tugged deep down in my soul. There are still many problems in our country when it comes to racism, many problems that have existed for years on end. It’s heartbreaking to know that people still experience today some of what their ancestors experienced all those years ago. These stories also told of the bravery and triumphs of many over the years. This is definitely an eye opening book that everyone should take the time to read!

The Heart of Baker Bay by Danielle Jacks – Review by Nakyshia Leger

The Heart of Baker BayThe Heart of Baker Bay by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I could not put this book down. If you are looking for a heart warming, emotion tugging story, look no further than The Heart of Baker Bay. Danielle Jacks created a magical place in Clover Bay with descriptions so detailed, I could picture every scene clearly in my head. There are times in our lives where we don’t know we need someone until the universe throws them at us, and that is a lot like Adam and Jody. Both of the characters needed to do some growing in their own way, but couldn’t do it without leaning on one another. This book would make a great feel-good, Romantic Comedy movie!

Forged by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, book 3) by Amy McKinley – Review by Nakyshia Leger

Forged by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 3)Forged by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amy McKinley has done it again! If you ever want to get lost in a book, Amy is the author for you. From the first chapter of Forged by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 3) I was hooked and did not want to put it down. Tyler and Malina are strong and complex characters that you instantly love and feel for. Of all three Deadly Isles Special Ops books, this one tugged at my heart the most. It was equally as packed with thrills and romance as the others. With this series, any of the books can be read alone which is enjoyable. It is definitely worth it to read them all though, you get a better sense of the characters and it builds more of a relationship to them. Either way, you can’t go wrong!

Twisted Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops #1)Twisted Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amy McKinley has a way of drawing you in quickly and making it hard to put the book down. While reading Twisted Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 1), I was quickly connected to Riley and Xander and couldn’t wait to see their story unfold. The descriptive way Xander and Riley got to know one another made me anxious and excited, almost begging for more. Amy McKinley has a way of combining action, mystery, and romance that is so inviting. Some books can be so predictable, but she gives you the unexpected. My heart skipped a beat at every turn. Amy McKinley is easily becoming one of my new favorite authors!

Deliciously Sinful Liaisons AUDIO BOOK by L.M. Mountford – Review by Nakyshia Leger

Hot and steamy are the perfect words for this series of stories! This is the first time I’ve experienced this author but L.M Mountford lives up to the name “The Lord of Lust”! There is no shortage of action and the author is not afraid of getting right to what the listeners want. A great performance by the reader, Tia Johnson, who really got into character and brought the stories to life. Each story was original, no two were alike, except that each one left you wanting more. If you are not shy, these stories are for you!

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Series Book 2) by Amy McKinley – Review by Nakyshia Leger

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #2)Bound by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amy McKinley has created an amazing series! Bound By Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 2) made my emotions go crazy! There was a little of everything: romance, action, even twists and turns that keep you guessing. I laughed a little, cried a little, and stopped breathing a time or two. There is history between Kayla and Jaxon, and their reunion in her time of need is not without some complications. They had to find ways to get to know one another again and Amy McKinley made it so lifelike. I love books like this one that are so easy to read and so hard to put down! I can not wait to read Book 3!

MORNIN THE SUPER BIRD – FINDS A WAY TO FIGHT EXTINCTION by JULES HEARTLY – Review by Nakyshia Leger

Mornin The Super Bird : Mornin Finds a Way to Stop ExtinctionMornin The Super Bird : Mornin Finds a Way to Stop Extinction by Jules Heartly
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a fun read! My kids absolutely loved this story! Jules Heartly has created a family favorite character! I have four kids ages 6-11 and they related easily to the story. It was fun to see their faces light up as they tried to guess what would happen next. We hear the words “endangered” and “extinct” frequently when visiting the zoo but my kids never really thought there was much they could do to help. This book clarified for them that they can make a difference! What a fun way to teach kids about taking care of their environment. We can’t wait to read more Mornin stories!

Lighting the Path: Leaning into a Hopeful Future as a Special Needs ParentLighting the Path: Leaning into a Hopeful Future as a Special Needs Parent by Marcia Nathai-Balkissoon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Never have I felt less alone as a parent of special needs children! Marcia Nathai-Balkissoon takes you on a beautiful, emotional journey as she tells her daughter’s story and offers resources for her readers with every chapter. It felt more like having a conversation with a friend than reading a book! I was drawn in and it was hard to put it down. Though tears were shed along the way, I walked away feeling more at peace and hopeful for my path moving forward. Anyone who is a parent of a special needs child, or anyone who is a caretaker at all could benefit from this book! Whether you are new to being a caretaker, or someone experienced, Marcia has something to offer. It is truly a gift from the author to the world. I will be keeping it close by to read again and again!
