Foxy Tails by Natalina Reis – Review by Jenni Bishop

3.5 Stars
Foxy Tails is an original MM fantasy romance tale with a cast of colourful characters. There are demons, foxes, healers, magic, murder and vengeance just to keep things interesting.
Huli has had a hard and pain filled life and is being hunted. He meets up with Xiao who is seeking vengeance against his family. Together with his best friend and one very funny dog a man’s best friend Ye Ying they set off on a quest to reveal truths.
It is filled with loss and hope, magic and danger, suspense and tension, humour and action within a world where nothing is what it seems.
I do feel a bit gipped in the romance department though I thought the romance was slowly building toward something explosive, but I was wrong. Foxy Tails actually feels like it is more aimed at a younger audience.
I am wondering if this is a standalone or the first book in a new series. It kind of felt unfinished.

This is an author that I have become increasingly familiar with and each and every book is different. This book is not at all what I expected from this author but I really enjoyed it. It was well written and has some honestly amazing characters. I was hooked as soon as I started reading this book and wanted to see how things would work out. I am still taken aback at how different this book is but I would definitely recommend it.

This was an interesting fantasy adventure with a MM Romance. The author does an amazing job with the characters and the influence of Chinese cultures and myths. This is what really brought this story to life for me all the little details that author put into the story.
In this book we meet Huli who is a nine tailed fox and Xiao who is a healer.

Huli has spent his whole life running away from danger and trying to save himself as everyone thinks he is a demon. He lives a very lonely and dangerous life.
Xiao has also known pain after having to deal with the grief of losing all his family.
Both of them do what they need to to be able to survive and neither of them expect to find companionship until they meet each other.
What happens next is a story about learning to trust and letting someone into your life.
Together they set out on the path to find what and who is responsible for the death of Xiao’s family but will they like what they find or are some secrets better left unknown.
This is an action packed fantasy adventure. There is a little romance involved in the story but it is very subtle and enhances the connection between Xiao and Huli without it taking over the story.

Get ready to jump inside this fantasy world and go on an adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I’ve read one of the author’s previous works and definitely wanted to check out this new one and so glad that I did. Húlí, a nine tailed fox, has known rejection and isolation all his life and fights against demons like himself. As he is escaping some hounds, he ends up at a chance meeting with Xiao and things change after that. Their connection is amazing on how sometimes in life we may face rejection or the sheer devoid of wanting to connect but sometimes we do end up meeting a special someone who will change how we view the world and how it affects us. Along their adventure together, they end up meeting others that join along in their efforts and make for such an enjoyable read!

This is an author that I have loved reading from the first book I picked up by her. Her books are inviting, interesting and engaging. Some take you on an emotional ride and others like this one will take you on an adventure. I found this book to be well written and hard to put down. I enjoyed how the author used her writing skills and attention to details to not only give life to the story but also make it come to life. This is a fast paced fantasy story that is hard to put down and engaging. The characters pull you into their world from the start. They take you on an adventure of romance, danger, and magical. What fate has instored for these two characters you don’t want to miss. It will surprise you in parts and other emotions in other parts. I really enjoyed reading this book and watching the growth of the characters as well as the plot. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Queen of Hearts (Heels, Rhymes & Nursery Crimes Vol. 21) By Natalina Reis – Review by Shai Flores

Queen of Hearts (Heels, Rhymes & Nursery Crimes, #21)Queen of Hearts by Natalina Reis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this novella. It is part of the Heels, Rhymes, and Nursery Crimes series, but I had not read any of the other books. I actually did not realize it was part of a series until I had gotten it on my Kindle. I was drawn to the book because of the gorgeous cover and it did not disappoint. This quick, fun read puts a twist on a commonly known villain, the Queen of Hearts. She is truly a hero in disguise as she works to avenge the women of the city and retaliate against the men that harm them. A strong female lead character, a mysterious man, a brave goal, and a sinister villain are elements that help make this a great read.

Queen of Hearts (Heels, Rhymes & Nursery Crimes, #21)Queen of Hearts by Natalina Reis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I think every woman would know someone that she’d like to send to the Queen of Hearts!! This book was a little different than I expected, but I was not disappointed!! I have not read any other books in this series but I believe this little stand alone served it’s purpose…to get me to read the other books! 🙂

Mimi Mioyo (I love how that name rolls off the tongue) is fed up over the way that men can get by treating…or mistreating, women. Thus, she becomes the Queen of Hearts. Any man who can beat her at a game of Stolen Hearts has an opportunity with her that other men are clamoring for. The thing is, would they be if they knew what *really* happens behind the Queen’s doors?

Jac is a new guy in town who claims to be Mimi’s new dealer. Mimi isn’t sure she can trust anyone else but Jac does something to earn her trust…but will it ever be a complete trust? He is a man after all!

I love how this story intertwines so many facets of things that, unfortunately, happen today. While this is a work of fictional fantasy, I know that some will wish some of these events to come true in their own lives. There are some deep topics covered in this book but all in all, I found it to be a very enjoyable read on a stormy afternoon. I look forward to reading other books in this series!

Queen of Hearts (Heels, Rhymes & Nursery Crimes, #21)Queen of Hearts by Natalina Reis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I cannot say enough good things about this book. The strong female lead who in a way is a vigilante protecting females from their lying, cheating, abusive men. We have all been there at one point in our lives and dealt with these types of men. This book offers the type of revenge we only wish we could have achieved.

Mimi, our female lead, has had her heart destroyed more times than any woman should. So after being taken in at the gentleman’s club, which just so happens to be a cover to protect women. She alters her identity and thus becomes the Queen of Hearts inviting men who beat her in hearts to her room, she loses on purpose. Once in her room she offers the men a drink that will forever alter their lives and protect future women from them. That is until she meets Jac, a blackmailer, who takes over as her supplier of her wares. However, upon winning and being taken to her room he refuses all she has to offer instead offering a deal she can’t refuse or can she? Things go awry from her as Mimi gets more than she bargained for with Jac. Can she learn to open her heart again to someone new? Or will she let love slip through her fingers because of past heartbreak?

This book gave me serious black widow vibes. It is a quick read and draws you in from the start, hooking you in Mimi’s web of vengeance on terribles males. If you like strong female characters and evil nefarious plots then this book is for you!

Queen of Hearts (Heels, Rhymes & Nursery Crimes Vol. 21) By Natalina Reis – Review by Stephanie Chapman

Queen of Hearts (Heels, Rhymes & Nursery Crimes, #21)Queen of Hearts by Natalina Reis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Mimi Mioyo is the star of this dark fantasy story set in the late Victorian age. As an abused woman, she had sought safety with Seree, the woman who provided shelter for women under the guise of a gentleman’s club. They had dubbed Mimi the Queen of Hearts. She would play a card game, with a night in her bedroom as the prize. She would purposely lose, and when the man arrived in her bedroom, she would offer him some wine laced with poison. Only, she didn’t kill the men. She hit them below the belt, literally, as the poison would render them unable to achieve an erection permanently.

Mimi needed more herbs to make her poison, but becomes alarmed when her normal supplier doesn’t arrive. Jacques “Jac” Tourville tells her he had bad luck and that Jac would be her supplier. Much to her dismay, Jac shows up at the gentleman’s club and plays the card game. He wins and follows her to her room. However, Jac has no intention of drinking anything, nor is he wanting to have sex with her. Instead, he offers her something much more sinister.

This is a short story of revenge on vile men who cheat and abuse women. Mimi was a type of vigilante, but there are always holes in every plan. Jac turns out to be the hole in her plan. I recommend readers who like strong female characters who also are not innocent to read this book.

The fact that the Queen of Hearts wants to put a stop to abusive/cheating men, makes this story even more amazing. This is the first book that I have read from this author, and I was not disappointed. I could not resist reading this book much less able to put it down long enough to feed myself. This fast-paced story had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was captured at the very beginning of the first page and did not stop reading until the last page was finished. We all know the nursery rhyme, now read the author’s story. The characters are believable and alive that it makes you feel like they are your friends in real life sitting next to you. All I can say is taking the chance on this author; you won’t regret it.

Queen of Hearts: Heels, Rhymes, & Nursery Crimes Vol. 21 is part of a multi-volume series reworking classic nursery rhymes. I was excited when I saw this author had a new book out. The series is standalone stories, but I want to read at least a few more to delve further into this world. I enjoyed the main character, Mimi, and how her story was built. Men might find her evil, but she is just trying to punish those that are cruel and make things better for the ones they torture. I like the twists and turns and the pace of the story. I look forward to this next author’s read and exploring more of this intriguing series.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Queen of Hearts is volume 21 of the Heels, Rhymes, and Nursery Crimes Series.

Mìmì has no respect for a man who beats and cheats on the woman he is supposed to love, cherish, and respect. She gets revenge on them by removing their ability to have intercourse. The quote I chose for Mìmì is: “It’s okay. It happens to everyone. Just go home and rest, and you’ll be back to normal in no time.”

Highly recommended for Fantasy Romance lovers.

The cover is what first drew me to this book, it’s beautiful. After reading the blurb with its rhyming prose, my interest was peaked. The story is definitely original. After suffering a traumatic experience, Mimi survived and managed to take control of her life. In an era where women have no say and men have ultimate power over them, Mimi managed to have a say in her destiny. She became the Queen of Hearts. Playing a dangerous game where the stakes are high, failure was not an option. She manages to vindicate the lives of multiple women while putting hers at risk. With Jac walking into her life, will she be able to put the past to rest and open her heart again?

This story had so many facets to it which kept me thinking long past the end of the book. I was very thankful I did not live in the time period of the story where women were treated as nothing more than property. The Queen of Hearts has been through much pain and abuse by the one who married her. She is a strong woman who will get her revenge. The story has many twists that will keep you reading to find out if she can truly trust anyone again. Women may not have many rights in the book but they sure do have a link to each other.

One of my favorite villainesses, I’ve always found the idea of the Queen of Hearts interesting, but I loved seeing the author transform the character in this way! A woman who’s familiar with the deceit of men, Mimi has risen above and beyond the usual call of revenge. Wonderfully dark and well-written, the plot thickens with this delightfully twisted tale of the Queen of Hearts. Even though the story was short and fast-paced, I feel like it was full of life and had plenty of mystery and intrigue. I’ve never read any of the other books from this series, but I’ll definitely be looking into them after reading this one, as well as more books from the author!

Queen of Hearts is a part of a series called Heels, Rhymes, and Nursery Crimes, that is made up of 27 standalone books by various authors. Queen of Hearts is book 21 in the series by Natalina Reis. I absolutely love any rendition of Alice in Wonderland and the Queen of Hearts. This book is devious, dark and twisty, as well as a fantasy romance. One of the main points of the story is that the Queen of Hearts, Mimi, punishes any man that is abusive towards women or a cheater. She does not punish them in the way that you would assume. One would immediately think that she’s an apothecary, she must kill the men, but she doesn’t…. she renders their genitals useless. Definitely a fast-paced story that keeps you on the edge of you seat waiting for what happens next. Mimi has never had any issues with her plans until she meets the richest and by farthest evilest men. She must make him pay, but she has to be smart, meticulous. Will her plan be the cause of her demise, or will she prevail? Definitely a page turner and must read!

I am not usually a big fan of novellas, mostly because they lack the small details of places, things, people and actions that make a story good. However, I find that is not the case with this story. I actually enjoyed it immensely. Mimi “The Queen of Hearts” is desperately trying to rid the world of evil men, by depriving them of the one working part of their anatomy they like the best. By using herbs she is able to render them impotent. Jac is her new dealer and he also wants to be her partner. Disaster strikes and they must flee. The details in this story are great and you really get to know the players. I am excited for the next in this series.
Trigger warning:
Physical and emotional abuse

Queen of Hearts (Heels,Rhymes &Nursery Crimes Vol 21) is a fast paced retelling of the classic Nursery Rhyme and made it much darker and more adult like. I’ve read several books by this author and her style of writing is like no other ,her ability to pull you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go till the end. Her characters are well developed and fun and she makes them come alive. Queen of Hearts is by far my favorite yet. It’s a bit darker but I absolutely loved it. Every man in town better watch out for The Queen of Hearts because she’s very determined to make them pay for all the bad things they’ve done. I don’t want to give to much away . Heels, Rhymes, & Nursery Crimes is a 27-book series and each book is written by many different talented authors. Queen of Hearts by Natalina Reis is just one of them.

Queen of Hearts with its deliciously dark and twisty themes are what you get in this fantasy romance book. Natalina never fails to give the reader something in the realm of unusual and that is what I love about her work.

A quirky look at a nursery rhyme with crimes that is full of thrills and intrigue, suspense and mayhem. This is a short little novella and a great quick read that is definitely entertaining.

She loves to take on anything in lipstick and high heels. You’d better stay out of her way or you could be next. But you will never see her coming, or will you?

I look forward to reading each and every book in this quirky series.

This story was well written. The story line is fabulous. To use her place at the head of the “house of ill repute” as a means to get close to the ones she is targeting. You can even tell that she is anxious about the tasks she is carrying out.
Then she ends up with help and they are able to target the biggest offender. Will they be successful?
