Savage Lies: A High School Bully Romance (Hidden Valley Elite Book 1)Savage Lies: A High School Bully Romance by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Savage Lies follows the prequel Savage Start.
Enemies-to-lovers and high school bully are understated. This is dark and full of scandal, so much scandal. It’s also full of angst, lies, drama, and even more secrets, jealousy, and bullying.

Riley thought a new place would make a great place to hide, as she always does. Her life is still full of secrets, but this time her mom is changing the rules of the game. Unfortunately for Riley she can’t escape the one causing her so much trouble because of her mom’s relationship with Cole’s dad. She has to stay out of his way or find a way to win.
Cole is one of the Elite, the leader is reality. The Elite are privileged boys who rule their private school. He hates his dad and his mom is dead. Cole’s agenda is to make his dad miserable, no matter the cost.

The characters are so easy to love, Riley, or hate, Cole. The pages fly by once you start. Savage Lies ends with a major cliffhanger. I need the next book now!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Savage Start is a prequel and a quick read to set the stage for the rest of the series.

Riley lives with her mom and it’s obvious that they don’t live normal lives. Running cons is the mother/daughter duo’s game. They’re always running from something, or someone, and getting comfortable isn’t an option. Or is it?

Cole is the football star, all-American boy, and tough guy. He appears to have everything a person could possibly want. Along with his brother and cousins, Cole seems to run the school. Cole’s parents are not happy and neither and Cole and his brother.

Savage Start is a great foundation and teaser that makes me need to read the first book in the series, Savage Lies.

After reading the prequel novella, I have been looking forward to more of Cole and Riley’s story.

Riley has moved (again) and her goal is to graduate while keeping her head down. That is quickly thwarted when a guy that she shared a kiss with months ago puts a target on her back as soon as he sees her. However, when they find out that their lives may be more intertwined than they thought…the bullying and hatred increases. But, as we all know, there is a thin line between lust and hate…and these two cross it every chance they get. The real question is…who will destroy the other first?!?

This book is the definition of enemies to lovers..to enemies…to (you get the point). There is so much back and forth that you keep turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. A couple of words of caution…you don’t have to read the prequel to understand what is going on…and you are going to be left with a cliffhanger that has you wanting the next book! A great story that I enjoyed reading!

There is a prequel to this story that gives more insight into the tension between Riley and Cole, but it’s not an absolute must in order to understand what’s going on in this book.

As with the prequel, Riley’s character didn’t land as well for me as Cole’s, but overall, the story has a lot of angst and build up between the two that keeps you reading. Even though I didn’t connect with Riley’s character much, I think the character development on the whole was well done, as was the world building.

If you like enemies-to-lovers new adult stories, this will probably be right up your alley.

Savage Lies: A High School Bully Romance (Hidden Valley Elite Book 1)Savage Lies: A High School Bully Romance by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Riley and her mom are closer than most mothers and daughters. That comes with the territory when you spend your lives on the run from a psychotic and dangerous ex. They’ve made their lives about blending in, getting their mark and getting out before he can pin down their location again. Last time he caught up with them, her dad almost killed her mom. It makes it a lot harder when they return to a place from a year ago and especially when her mom gets a boyfriend and tells her to forget everything she taught her and enjoy her senior year of high school. MUCH easier said than done.

Cole is elite amongst the rich and elite of his peers. He is king of the high school, king of the football field, king of his fights…all the girls want him and all the guys want to be him. But he can’t get his mind off the girl who invaded his life a year ago and left him with an unbearably hot kiss. That kiss was from none other than Riley, when they were in the area a year ago. She looked different then, with her hair dyed dark and her emo garb – and he was drunk at a house party. But she never left his mind.

The first day Riley walks in to school, it starts. The harassment from the elite, Cole seeking her out and being threatening. When his dad, whom he hates, calls and tells him not to worry about the rental house showing movement because he is letting a friend crash there, Cole finds Riley there and immediately wonders how things will be explained.

Before long, they find that they are even less likely to be able to avoid one another at all. They both equally hate and lust for one another, pushing and pulling and stealing moments they can’t resist.

There are a lot of layers to these characters and they play very well off of one another. The story is like dangling a carrot, you can’t stop turning the pages to see what happens next. There is a prequal that shares the experience from a year before book 1, but it isn’t necessary to read to understand this book – it just adds some extra when you see they ways they are all trying to survive. Book 1 ends on a great cliffhanger, cannot wait for book 2!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Savage Start is a short Prequel that ends with a cliffhanger which continues on with Savage Lies. This isn’t a standalone, but it gives you a little more back story with the characters in Savage Lies. In Savage Start, Riley and Cole are the main characters. Riley and her mother move to a new town in California. They move a lot and are almost always on the run. Her mom says it will be different this time, but it never is. She can’t trust being safe, ever! It doesn’t take her long to get caught stealing at a McMansion party and the guy who catches her not only takes her “souvenir”, but he also steals a kiss! Thrown off balance by his dangerous and sexy kiss, she’s distracted. And she got caught! She NEVER gets caught!! Leaving this town sooner rather than later might be the best. Cole, catching a little thief at his cousins party, is equally caught off guard by the mysterious girl. He was a little drunk, so he doesn’t remember all the details of her features, but he can’t stop thinking about the kiss and what it did to him. He’s never reacted like that before with anyone. When he catches wind of who she is, or more importantly who her mother is, all bets are off. This book is a new adult bully romance prequel about Riley and Cole’s story. I haven’t yet read the last of their story (Savage Truth), but I can’t wait to get my hands on it and all the books to this Hidden Valley Elite series! If you like enemies to lovers romance books this is a great set! I can’t wait to finish it all, but let me tell you that this prequel and the first book were enough to hook me in!!

Rejected by a teenage god.

Lies so dangerous our lives are at stake.

A game worth playing.

Cole Savage doesn’t hate anyone as much as he hates me… or the fact that he wants me just as much.

We all have issues, and the less he knows about me, the better. I just have to keep him unbalanced, which is harder than I thought it would be.

Yeah, he wants me.

But I want him just as much.

And that’s a secret I’ll kill over.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a great 5 star read. Bully romance is one of my top favorite genres and this author did not disappoint. I was pulled in right from the beginning. My emotions were all over the place, Riley and Cole’s story was nail biting and had my frustration levels high. They both had secrets and their attraction was intense. I loved these two characters, they are both strong, stubborn and will do anything to come out on top. Who will break first?
This is definitely for mature readers, there are some scenes that could be triggers for some. And the cliffhanger, ugh….the next book can’t come fast enough. I highly suggest starting with book one so that you can meet all of the characters. This series is one of my top favorites and I CAN’T WAIT until the next book in the series. 1-click and get started today.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Isla did an amazing job writing this book. I do recommend that you read Savage Start before this book so you know all about the history between Cole and Riley.

Cole is the man at school. He is rich, good-looking, a star athlete, and part of the elite group. Riley is the girl that has never really called on place home for longer than a few months. She is used to being ready to move at the drop of a hat.

Riley comes back to Santa Monica and the history she left behind with Cole. Can the past be forgotten or will he still hold onto that same grudge? Cole is used to getting his way and having people hang on to his every word and listen to him. Riley is not that kind of girl she is not afraid to push back against him.

Is there really a thin line between love and hate? Can you mend something that was broken before it even started? Can you really just get someone out of your system? High school is not easy with all of the emotions that come along with it. Read this book to find out if Cole and Riley can figure out high school relationships. Beware all is fair in love and war.

A wonderful book to read. The character development and the storyline were well thought out and executed.

This book is about Cole and Riley. Riley is a girl that is not used to staying in one place for very long. She is used to not getting to know people too well because she knows that she will inevitably leave them sooner rather than later. Cole is the guy that everyone thinks has everything in the world and the best of the best. As well as being a high school athlete his life is not all that it seems to be from the outside looking in.

What happens when the jock meets a stubborn girl. In this story first impressions are important and the impressions that these two made on each other were not great. Enemies from the first talk are definitely how these two started out.

Read this book to find out, what really goes on behind closed doors of the perfect family. What causes a high school girl to have been to more schools and new places than some people move in their lifetime? Can you build trust from something that started with lies and hatred? Read this wonderful book to find out.

Savage Lies is the 2nd book in the Hidden Valley Elite series (It says book 1, but there is a prequel Savage Start, which is worth reading too). I was hooked on this series instantly. Aside from the awkwardness of reading steamy scenes between teenagers, this series is perfect. There is a good mix balance of romance and mystery. Both Riley and Cole are well developed and strong characters. Riley and her mom have a life of baggage and have lived on the run as con=artists for the last 15+ years. Now her mom says they are done and things are different. Riley is having a hard adjustment and is waiting for the other shoe to drop. She has a love hate relationship with her soon to be step brother, literally. The ending was total cliff hanger so on to the next book!!

Set one year after the prequel savage start, Riley and her mom are back in the same town and though they have different looks the drama remains.
Rileys mom is sneaking around and swears up and down this isn’t a con and Riley should settle in and enjoy the school year but she’s obviously skeptical after the running away they’ve done her entire life.
The first day of school she runs into Cole again and the sparks are still there but Cole doesn’t make the connection.
Their lust burns as hot as their hate and Cole is determined to make Rileys life hell… but little does he know Riley is his match in every way and won’t be taken down without a fight.
Red hot enemies to lovers you can feel the palpable feelings between Riley and Cole, but can they get out of their own way and out from behind all the secrets?

I have been waiting for this one…only to devour it in less than 24 hours.
And then I might have thrown a temper tantrum because now I must wait (again) for Savage Truth, but I digress.

Riley returns to California and to an unsuspecting Cole at the beginning of a new school year. We are treated to plenty of drama and a bit of suspense as we try to figure out who is lying and where the truth does lie.

Friendships are formed. Allegiances are somewhat formed. Enemy lines are drawn, I mean this is high school and there must be a mean girl and some bullying, right?

Cole and Riley are beginning to suspect that not all has been black and white in their world and secrets may start unraveling.

From the looks of it, the answer is both. These two have had a multitude of trauma in their lives and their parents are not helping.

I cannot wait to find out what happens next – this novel ended on a cliff hanger. I’m sprinting to read the next one in the series!

Bully, Enemy to lovers romance
I really enjoyed the sneak peek into Cole and Riley’s life in Savage Start which set the foundation for this book. What an emotional roller coaster. The author builds the tension, angst and highly intense emotions so well. With a mix of scandals, family drama and darkness intermingled with romance and high school. There is still more to come for Riley and Cole in book 2- which I can’t wait to read. Highly recommend.

Savage Lies: A High School Bully Romance (Hidden Valley Elite Book 1)Savage Lies: A High School Bully Romance by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book I have read by the talented Isla Vaughn. The first being the prequel to this duet, Savage Start. While not necessary to read it to understand this book it is helpful. Savage Lies picks up one year after the events of the prequel, and while the events of it are mentioned no background is given to give a full understanding of the heat and thus hatred that fuels Riley and Cole.
Riley and Cole are both seniors at Hidden Valley Academy in Santa Monica, California. Riley and her mother never hit a place twice and yet for some reason they have returned here of all places. While she looks different this time Riley still remembers everything that happened the first time, including the amazing soul changing kiss with the stranger at the beach party. Cole still dreams of the little thief from the beach party, with the perfect little body that perfectly fit against his. Now a senior Cole has one goal make it through the year and escape his father, at least until he unknowingly meets his same little thief on the first day of school. While Riley recognizes him, he was drunk the first time and thus clueless now, though he feels something familiar about her tugging in the shadows of his memory. After a conversation with his dad its revealed that Riley’s mom is his dad’s new girlfriend. In his mind that means one thing only, she is trouble, and he needs to make sure they are gone quickly. Only they have invaded every part of each other’s minds. With a determination to both have her and destroy her Cole makes it known around their school that Riley is off limits. To Riley he makes if very clear that she already belongs to him so she might as well face it. Riley feels betrayed and abandoned for the first time in her life, her mom has always been her best friend and filled her in on everything but after nearly 18 years she is telling Riley to turn her back on everything she was raised to do and remember and be a normal teenager. To go out for the diving team, to go to parties, have friends, enjoy living her life like a normal girl.
Can Riley survive being the target of Cole Savage? Is Riley’s mom really trying to be normal after all this time? What does normal mean to a girl raised like Riley was? I loved the prequel and impatiently waited for the main books to come out and I was not disappointed. Savage Lies continues to build the world of Cole and Riley, giving more insight to their desires, and hatred. The cliffhanger once again had me on the edge of my seat and I can’t wait for the final part of the duet Savage Truth, April 27th, 2023.

Fantastic first read by this author. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Well written that you do not want to put the book down. I picked up the book not expecting to finish it in one setting. The hate between the main characters that keeps drawing them back to one another is well done. The enemies-to-lover is great in this dark bully romance. Riley and Cole hate one another, yet the attraction to one another remains. There is angst, tension, drama, bullying, lies, jealousy, and secrets. Once you pick it up you will not want to put it down.

This is the prequel to the Hidden Valley Elite Series. This was a super quick read that was full of so very much. Riley was used to change, so moving to a new town right before her junior year was just what she had come to expect from her life. Things didn’t seem normal though in this new place. Then she met Cole. She knew that she would not be here long enough to get to know him but a girl could dream. Would this time be different and she would actually be able to stay? Would her or Cole’s life ever be the same after this summer?

This book was so incredibly well written that once you start the book it will feel like within a bind of an eye it was done. This book is fast paced and keeps you turning pages as quickly as you can. I almost felt like I was skimming the pages with how fast I was devouring the words. The banter between characters adds to the charm this book has. Yes, I said charm; because even though this is a bully romance it does has a warm feeling of charm to it. The push pull dynamic between the characters is spot on and hit all my feels. There is a prequel to this book but you don’t have to read it in order to pick this one up. I would recommend reading it because it does give some background information that you won’t feel is missing if you don’t know about it but would help if you do know about it. This book does leave you wanting more not only because of how amazing it was but because you actually want to know more and what happens. This book read like a dream and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a fast paced, jammed packed, bully romance; that can be finished in a few hours. Seriously, you will read it that quickly because you wont be able to put it down.

Though I’m not always one for a darker romance, I was immediately intrigued by the story. There’s a deeper air of intrigue to the way the author has told this story that goes deeper than your typical bully romance. While all the usual elements of a dark romance, this story isn’t lacking in spice and heat from the actual story itself. The chapters are told in alternating perspectives of our main characters and we get a look into their sides of things. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year, I’m going to be on the lookout for the sequel!

Savage Lies by Isla Vaughn is the first book in the Hidden Valley Elite series, following the prequel Savage Start. In this story, it picks up where some time has passed since Cole and Damon lost their mother. They blame their father and his inability to be faithful to their mother for her taking her life. But when Cole finds out who his father is seeing and connects the dots to Riley’s mother, he decides to make it his mission to run Riley and her mother off. The tension between Cole and Riley is fierce as they toy with each other and it is so gripping, it was hard to put this book down. I am anticipating diving right into the second book next to see where it goes next.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a fantastic enemies-to-lovers, new adult high school bully romance this one was! Isla Vaughn is a new writer for me, and I’m so thrilled that I discovered her.

Cole and Riley come from two completely different worlds. Cole comes from a privileged world, and Riley has been running most of her life with her mother. Now, their two worlds collide when they discover their parents are together. Riley is soon plunged into Cole’s world. She isn’t happy about it, and Cole most certainly isn’t. A kiss they shared in the past makes Cole dislike her even more. He has plans to destroy her and make her and her mother disappear from his life. Too bad he can’t turn his hidden desire for her off though! Riley has those same feelings for him too. Both have secrets they want to stay hidden which makes things even more complicated.

While the book is in the genre of enemies to lovers and a high school bully romance, there is also an air of suspense!!! The angst and chemistry between these two is off the charts which makes for great reading!

This is just the first book in the series, and it’s already so good! It does end in a cliffhanger, and boy what a cliffhanger it is! I know a lot of readers hate cliffhangers, but I love them! I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Savage Lies is the second book in the Hidden Valley Elite series by Isla Vaughn. It is a New Adult (High School) enemies-to-lovers “bully” romance with plenty of angsty drama, family dynamics, darker themes that may be triggers for some readers, emotion, and more.
I highly recommend reading the prequel, Savage Start, before starting on this book as the story foundations begin there, as well as character introductions, and other ‘groundwork’ which knowing will help you better understand what happens in this book.
As we discovered in the prequel, The ‘Elites’ are the top of the food chain at Hidden Valley Elite high school. They are brothers Cole and Damon and their cousins, twin brothers Phoenix and Shane. They are the football stars of school, and every girls dream- and they know it. It has been a year since the events in ‘Savage Start’, and Riley is back in town and enrolled at Hidden Valley. Soon sparks fly and personalities clash. Things are about to get interesting. But this isn’t a ‘light and fluffy’ read, be warned, the author takes a bit of a darker turn here which may be challenging for some.
I am glad this book was ‘meatier’ than the prequel, as I was able to really immerse in the story and begin to invest in the character/s and developments- which I hadn’t been able to do in the prequel. I am so ready for the next instalment.
Cole and Riley’s story started in the prequel and resumes here, concluding in “Savage Truth” (Book #2). Each of the elites are set to get their own book/s as well, making for a longer series to sink our teeth into.
Bring it on!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Isla Vaughn!

LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH! I read the short prequel to this and I’ve been waiting to read this one and I never wanted it to end. Cole is 🥵 and I LOVE Riley. The push and pull/cat and mouse game they’re playing with each other, has me on edge. It’s a good thing though because I love the angst! They “hate” each other for many reasons but they can’t deny the physical attraction they have for one another. Cole has family problems and so does Riley. Can Cole get over how he’s feeling? Can Riley? If you want a book with drama and angst, read this! If you want a GREAT enemies to lovers book…READ. THIS. I promise you, you won’t regret it. This is such a great read I’ll definitely be re reading it in the near future. It’s one of my favorites! And I need more! It can’t end like that! 😭 I know this series is going to be 8 books…and knowing I have to wait till the end of the year to know how it ends is going to be torture!

Moving to a new place isn’t easy, especially when it means moving into a new home with people you don’t even know. Riley’s life got turned upside down when her mother moved them in with her boyfriend and his two boys. She shared a steamy kiss with Cole once and then ran the other way never thinking she’d see him again. Cole is battling the hatred building inside that he has for his father. While their chemistry is off the charts he still doesn’t want to let her in. How will they cope with living together? The story is good, the characters have great development and the author did a great job in keeping me, the reader, interested. I’m looking forward to how this story progresses in the next book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Constantly on the run, Riley has never known stability, save for her mom and uncle, but never staying in one place comes with its advantages and disadvantages. One of the latter being she’s never had a crush or been able to do what she really loves. All of that changes when her mom moves her to California with no knowledge of what scam they’re going to run. Only cryptic messages about staying and promises that things will be different, they’re different in the fact that she can’t get Cole Savage out of her mind or out of her bubble of loneliness and off of her lips. The only problem with one of the Elite wanting you? Is the fact that he also wants to destroy her, left with no other choice she refuses to cower and run, but when a bomb is dropped on both of them, they decide to up the stakes, get away from each other and never talk again. But can they survive that long with the passion building between them all because of a kiss?
