This was a very interesting story! The legend in the beginning was a beautiful way to set up the actual storyline. The details and descriptions in the setting were truly captivating, painting a picture in my mind as I read through. It was almost as if I was watching a movie, reading through each chapter and getting to know the characters. Truly seeing how Kit was thinking, whether it was about Tam, his fate, or what was happening in his hometown, was really eye opening. The alternating points of view was also fun to see, the way each character is different but complements the others they are around or discuss. I also love the premise of time travel, and the way the author uses it in this book is simply stunning and absolutely worth the read!

I dug right into this book with wide eyes as I leapt into a new world in this book. I often read books that take you places with joy to be able to step outside of my reality into fantasy. This story is full of time travel, lots of interesting detail, and a love story. I love memoirs and biographies but there’s nothing like a love story to lift me high off the ground. I was excited to watch her try and navigate time travel to the 16th century trying to live with her love for this man! You don’t want to miss this one! I’m looking forward to finding time to revert back to book one and understand the layers even further. Enjoy!

This is a pretty interesting read and even though it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I do want to go back and read the previous books for more context on this story though. I do get a little confused when there is a dual timeline as I struggle to keep the different parts separate, yet together.

It’s the year 1593 and Christopher Marlowe is in trouble. The playwright is being taken to the White Tower but he’s desperate to get a message to his love, Tam, in the present day. Tam’s a homicide detective who can possibly help him out, but then again, maybe it would be best if he handled this on his own.

This book is about time travel, detectives, love, fae, shapeshifters, and more! It’s full of mystery, intrigue, high stake choices, and more!

I didn’t feel lost or like I was missing something. This is a stand alone book in the series. However, after reading, I will definitely be checking out the rest of the books in the series. I really enjoyed Nightfall in Deptford. It is a unique time travel historical paranormal/fantasy tale where the story is in two different time periods and years but goes back and forth between 1593 London and current Philadelphia. A playwright, a Homicide Detective, criminals, fae and shifters are only some of what you can expect in this tale.

I was so captivated with this story that I didn’t realise that it is actually the fourth book in the series. I suggest going back and reading them in order. I didn’t really feel I missed out as I was reading it but will go back and start at the beginning.

L.E. is a new author to me and I was engrossed with her narrative and world building. The story is made all that more interesting as one of the characters is a real historical figure.

Tam is a fixer but to do what she does best she must travel through time. Now she must choose love or keeping the time line of the future intact. What would you do when it comes to love?

I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

This series is amazing! Very fast read and I love the story line, even though I read it out of order!

Everything you need in a story; conspiracy, judgement, love, action, time travel, and so much more!

You’ll meet Tam who isn’t your ordinary every day detective in Philly, instead she’s got a secret second life that she’s been dealing with since the age of 15. You’ll also meet all of her friends that help her through everything that she has to face. In this book, Tam gets sent back to 1593 and has to deal with life during that age. The smells, the work, the norm back then is way different than what she’s used to.

Tam Paradiso is a woman on a mission and she will stop at nothing until she sees it through to the end, there is only one complication, it involves time travel and that is something she is not familiar with, hunting monsters and aiding supernatural beings, yes, but time travel no, but hey, there is a first time for everything. Meanwhile, Christopher Marlowe is being delivered to the White Tower in London in 1593 after being summoned there from a visit to a friend, he has no idea who is behind taking him there, but he understands what he is being charged with, all he knows is that he must get word to Tam so that she doesn’t try anything reckless to help free him.

You may ask what has spurred this new challenge in Tam’s life and that is the change in the details of the death of her lover Christopher Marlowe, a fellow monster hunter and the love of her life, so with the help of friends and family, she prepares for a journey like no other to correct the timeline and stop the drastic changes it is causing. As she ties up the loose ends in her other occupation as a Detective in modern day New York to take some vacation days, she has to bring allies into the fold, only some of which know the whole story, but she cannot risk anything more than she already is by telling them where she is really going. However, as usual things do not go smoothly and Tam’s sister Isabelle plays a key role in the journey, as does her ex-lover Theo North who has to accompany her in order for the two of them not to stick out any more than they know they will.

When they arrive in Marlowe’s time, the try and work out who is behind the accusations and so start to dig into the backgrounds of any clues Marlowe has left them, but the further they dig, he more tangled a web they find and time is running out for them all, especially when they have to battle a key witness of Marlowe’s death who also happens to be a shifter, but will they solve their puzzle and get Marlowe out in time, just so he can die the death he was supposed to? This is an adventure which is full of political intrigue, time travel and the supernatural, in this race against time which will have you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Nightfall in Deptford is the fourth book in the Crescent Moon Chronicles series. I grabbed this because of the blurb involving Christopher Marlowe and time traveling. Little did I know that this was part of a series. This read well, considering I had not read other books in the series, and it has left me wanting to know more of the story but past and upcoming. Tam is a Philadelphia homicide detective that finds her way to England and Christopher Marlowe. Will she be able to change history, or will he meet his ending?
I enjoyed the writing and that not only is the story historical time-travel but there is a paranormal side to the story as well. The characters were interesting, and I enjoyed looking differently at the past. I am greatly intrigued by what the rest of the series holds in storytelling. I look forward to grabbing more books from this author soon.

History, as we know it, is kept in balance by time travelers. Time travelers that battle beings from another realm. Nightfall in Deptford (Crescent Moon Chronicles Book 4) by L.E. Towne – Review by Maryn Belling

“Not all monsters (are) bad, some (are) handsome creatures that listen to your troubles and serve beer”

Welcome to a timeline where things are warped. American readers will slide a side-eye at the revised canonical realities between the text and their history classes – careful where you read this; the trolls might be watching.

Otherwise, bouncing back and forth between London 1593 and contemporary Philadelphia is as seamless as going to the Renaissance Festival. Mr. Marlowe’s attachments to modernity create a decreasing stickiness to his own time – which is good since he’s got that pesky May 30th 1593 thing looming before him.

The underpinnings of the story and its origin legend separate this text from its “competitors” in both the time travel and supernatural (fae) genres. It’s a fun read with endearingly relatable characters. Definitely an author I’ll add to my “yup” stack.

Historical Geek Note: this is NOT a distraction from the book; but in addition to the intentional canonical departures, there’s a significant historical issue with a time-travel book with British settings prior to 1751 and modern-day US settings. Poetic license being as it is, however, we can probably assume that our 16th century literary protagonist and our modern day damsel found a work-around for the wonkiness of the Julian calendar prior to 1752

Fantasy and paranormal story from a new to me author? Yes, I took the chance to read this book even though I hadn’t read the previous books in the series. The author wrote the story in such a way to at least make me feel I needed to keep reading it and I was sucked in!

It didn’t take me long to find magic, paranormal beings, adventure, and so much more. It’s always refreshing to find a book that catches your interest similar to when you were younger and found a book that changed your favorite genre. I wish I had read the earlier books so I knew more of the characters we encountered in this book. I’m looking forward to some day getting that chance to read these books in order.

That being said, I did fully enjoy this story. I thought it was interesting and kept the pages turning. I loved the combination of historical fiction and fantasy. The author weaved the two together so well.
The combination of characters worked really well too. Each had their part to play and I liked how they all interacted with each other. I certainly fond this to be a well written and exciting book. I can’t wait to go back and add more to the series.

Nightfall in Deptford is the fourth book in the Crescent Moon Chronicles by L.E. Towne. Here I go again, diving into a series backwards. I was so caught up by the blurb and interesting cover, that I didn’t realise this was the fourth book in the series. Smh…. I soooo wish I had read the other books in this series before plunging into this one, as I suspect that knowing what happened previously would have elevated my reading experience of this book and taken it to a whole other level. Don’t get me wrong, this was a great read, and therein lies the problem…. I am seriously missing out by not having read the other books- but that is something I plan to remedy asap. I am more than intrigued by what might have happened in the previous three books, and will definitely be going back and reading them, as well as anything else Ms. Towne has produced.
This is a fantastic historical urban fantasy with time travel, fae, magic, adventure, action, destiny, shifters, paranormal elements, the supernatural, dramatic developments, passion, life and death choices, high stakes, destiny, family, and a clever melding of fact and fiction.
The story is skillfully woven, with wonderful world building, developing lots of threads and layers which all contribute to the depth and rich texture of the storyline that the author has cleverly crafted.
I can see that the previous three books would have enriched my reading experience of this book as this continues a time travel story that began in book one. Although I was able to ‘catch up’ somewhat in this story, I still feel like I need to know what happened previously as I am sure all the books help to paint a much bigger picture.…. Circumstances have meant that Christopher Marlowe, famous 16th century playwright, and Tam Paradiso, a present-day homicide detective team up in a race against time, with challenges past and present, hard choices, threats, danger, and high stakes- all choreographed into quite a captivating story.
I am looking forward to reading the previous book, as well as any future additions- can’t wait to see where things might lead.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, L.E. Towne!

This was a decent book that kept me entertained. I will most likely go back and read the first three books of this series as I would like to get more background on the characters and their relationships. With that being said I did enjoy this book. Christopher Marlowe is about to meet his demise due to criminals and spies in the 1500s. The love of his life lives in present day Philadelphia and works as a detective. How is that possible you ask? Well, Tam is a time traveler who fixes snags in time. She is tasked with going back in time and fixing things that alter the future. She and her ex lover must go back and fix the timeline that coincides with Christopher’s demise as it has been altered. Will they be able to find who is behind the conspiracy? Will Tam be able to leave her beloved behind to die so things will happen as they should? Or will she risk destroying the future as she knows it by saving his life?

This is a gripping historical fantasy novel with a unique time travelling element, which made this a real page turner. Tam Paradiso is a present day homicide detective in Philadelphia, but her lover is definitely not from the same era, as it is playwright, and in this story, monster Hunter, Christopher Marlowe! On the 30th May 1593, Marlowe is destined to meet his demise amongst spies and criminals, but something has gone wrong and the final days of his life have deviated from their destined course, corrupting the proper flow of time in the process. Tam along with a banished fae warrior, and her former lover, Theo North travel back to 1593 to rescue Marlowe from the Tower of London.
In order to fix the timeline they plot Marlowe’s escape from the impenetrable White Tower. They must also work out who’s behind the political conspiracy against him, and battle a vicious shifter who has a role to play in his death. If they should succeed, Tam will have to make the awful choice of whether to leave Marlowe to his predestined and tragic end, or risk destroying the future. I didn’t realise this was part of a series and I think it would be beneficial to read the novels in order, so you get a better understanding of the backstory and how the characters are all connected. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this story, the plot kept me hooked from start to finish and the descriptive narrative made both eras come vividly to life. I particularly liked the added historical details which made me feel immersed in the 1593 settings.

This was an interesting and enjoyable novel. I like the combination of fantasy elements with real-life historical characters. It was easy to follow even though it involves time travel to Elizabethan England. I am familiar with Christopher Marlowe, but mostly in name so I find it interesting to know him from this aspect.. The descriptions were clear and the elements of danger at every turn were realistic. I do wish I had read the other three books (not realizing this was book 4) as I feel it would more fully explain the relationship between characters and their backgrounds in general, but the summaries provided throughout the story are enough to keep me hooked to this one!

This was a really interesting read. The author does an amazing job with the characters and the whole time travel element to the story made it really unique. I didn’t realise this book was part of a series but I will definately be going back to read them from the beginning. Even though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone and is still really enjoyable.

There is lots of intrigue and mystery in this story and it is definately a story that keeps you gripped and guessing what will happen. I love the attention the author made to the relationship between the characters and how being from different times has effect on the relationships.

The playwright Christopher Marlowe is set on the path to meet his end surrounded by criminals and spies.
However that doesn’t happen and because of that it changes the course and flow of time.
Now it’s down to his love Tam, who lives in the present day to figure out what went wrong.
Now begins the adventure of Tam travelling back to 1593, to rescue Tam and help him escape, however even with facing all the odds and a shifter who will play a part in Christopher’s death, Tam has a difficult choice to make. Does she succeed in helping Christopher to escape his path and demise to save the man she loves ag the risk of changing the future. Her present life? Or does she allow the course of time to run as it should, taking away the man she loves but saving everyone and her life in the future.
This story is really good and really gripping. The mix of time travel, mystery, Romance and paranormal was an amazing combination that makes this story a must read.

When Tam Paradiso learns that the man she loves, Christopher Marlowe, has been sentenced to death she decides to risk everything to save him. There are only a few snags in her plan which she must work around to save him. The first hurdle is that Tam is in present day Philadelphia and Christopher is back in the year 1593. Not only must Tam time travel back to 1593 but she must find a way to rescue Christopher from the White Tower after he has been wrongly imprisoned there. It seems that Christopher has gotten himself wrapped up in the middle of a political conspiracy and the result has been his conviction of a crime he did not commit. His impending death has completely altered the timeline of the future, so it is imperative that he be rescued, and the timeline be corrected.

Tam is a strong woman who is used to fighting her own battles, but this time has no choice but to take someone with her to help. Tam has recently learned that she is pregnant which complicates time travel and risks the life of her unborn child. With few choices on who she can ask to help, Tam is forced to choose her ex-boyfriend Theo, a banished Fae warrior. Will Tam and Theo be able to save Christopher and correct the timeline of the future?

The author did a great job with the dual timelines in this book, and I felt as though I was there in 1593 with the characters experiencing the conditions as they were in that time. I could smell and almost taste the foods they ate. I could hear the sounds of the busy streets and see the decrepit conditions many lived in. Each scene was so vividly described that I felt as though I was right there in that time experiencing everything that Tam, Theo, and Christopher were doing. I loved the character of Tam and admired the lengths that she would go to so that she could save the man she loved. Even if that involved enlisting the help of an ex-lover that she wanted nothing to do with. Theo was also to be admired for stepping up to help his ex-girlfriend save her new lover. Christopher was someone that you could not help but feel bad for after being imprisoned in such horrific conditions. I highly recommend this book!

When I saw the title, I was drawn to this book- mainly for the reason that the nearby town near me is also Deptford. Silly as this sounds, immediately realizing this book is the fourth in a series by E L Towne, I read the synopsis and decided to give it a go.
Christopher Marlowe, a playwright awaits his fate in 1593. Can his love, Tam Paradiso rescue him in time? Oh, by the way she lives in current day Philadelphia. This story was captivating from beginning to end.
I’m glad I stumbled upon this book, because like I said this is fourth in a series, but it read well as a stand-alone book. The characters come alive on the pages and I felt as if I was transported through time with them on their journey. I would recommend reading this book!

Murder and mayhem are old hat to Tam Paradiso. Time travel? That’s a new one.

On May 30, 1593, playwright and monster hunter Christopher Marlowe is destined to meet his demise amid a nest of spies and criminals. No one can change that, not even his love, Tam Paradiso, a homicide detective in present-day Philadelphia.

But something has gone wrong. The final days of Marlowe’s life have deviated from their destined course, corrupting the proper flow of time. Aided by visions from her sister, Isabelle, Tam travels back to 1593 to rescue Marlowe from the infamous Tower of London. She takes banished fae warrior Theo North, her former lover, as supernatural back-up.

To fix the timeline, they must plot Marlowe’s escape from the impenetrable White Tower, unravel the political conspiracy against him, and battle a vicious shifter with a role to play in his death. But even should they succeed, Tam will have no choice but to abandon Marlowe to his predestined tragic end, or risk destroying the future.
