Hitting the High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C A King – Review by Sheri Schrader

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3)Hitting The High Note by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hitting the High Note by C.A. King is the third book in A Four Horsemen Novel series. I recommend reading the series in order because the books do build onto one another. Uriel, a modern day cowboy, steps in to help make sure the keys to unseal hell are not found. Bekka runs into the man of her dreams, or is he? Her decisions can change the world as we know it. I have enjoyed this series immensely and this did not disappoint. I always enjoy a book by C.A. King but this is my favorite series so far. The characters are wonderful, there are twists and turns, and enough going on to keep me on the edge of my seat.

Fisher Men On the X (Book III)Fisher Men On the X by Rebel Nicks O’Dey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Fisher Men On the X by Rebel Nicks O’Dey is the third book in the Fisher Men series. This is an incredible series that everyone definitely needs to read!
When I read the previous book in this series I knew it was going to be a hard task to beat it as I enjoyed it so much and yet from the moment I read the blurb of this book I knew Miss O’Dey was certainly going to impress again.
This book was definitely about the strong characters, Becca especially. Their history together made their chemistry even stronger and more believable. It was brilliant to see the difference between them. The overall story felt intriguing from the start and drew me in instantly. This has been a fantastic series and I really cannot wait to see what else is to come.

SAN DIEGO DEAD (Jake Wolfe Series Book 4) by Mark Nolan – Review by Kerry Baker

San Diego Dead (Jake Wolfe #4)San Diego Dead by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

San Diego Dead: An Action Thriller by Mark Nolan is the fourth book in the Jake Wolfe series. This book, and series, is action packed and fast paced and really will leave you wanting to read more and more.
I loved this book right from the start. I was instantly drawn into the story and the characters. I absolutely love the relationship between Jake and Cody. This is probably one of the strongest bonds between dog and human I have read in a book before. It was so convincing.
The story was really good as well. I felt like it kicked straight off and there was no hesitation in getting into it. It had a punchy story line and was action packed. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering how the characters were going to navigate the situation they found themselves in. I was fully engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the whole story. If you haven’t done so already then I definitely recommend you try these books!

Protecting His Heart: a Lawson Family Novel (Lawson Family Series Book 2) by Tracey Cramer-Kelly – Review by Angela Hayes

Protecting His Heart (Lawson Family, #2)Protecting His Heart by Tracey Cramer-Kelly
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Protecting His Heart: A Lawson Family Novel is the second book in the Lawson Family series by Tracey Cramer-Kelly. It is a really great small-town/contemporary romance, with emotion, drama, connection, family, and forgiveness.
I really enjoyed the first book in the series, ‘Calling the Curveball’, so when I saw this one, I just knew I had to read it too. This story could be read as a standalone, but as there are some recurring characters, who you will want to ‘meet’, so I really recommend reading the first book before beginning on this one.
Ian McCleary is a police officer who has worked hard to get where he is. He is dedicated to his job and takes his responsibilities seriously. Ian is Jamie’s best friend (Book #1) and holds a special place in the Lawson family. But still, he has some baggage from his past that even though he has come so far, a part of him is still a little ‘stuck’ by his experiences. He had been living and working in the big smoke but made the move back to his hometown three years ago. Over time he can’t help but notice things about Rachel he wished he didn’t. It brings out his protective nature- because he knows from firsthand experience what it’s like to live with that burden. But he’s determined to keep things professional, he really can’t afford to cross that line.
Rachel holds a dream of marriage and starting a family. But that doesn’t seem possible now, not with the secret she’s been hiding. She’s given up so much, and things don’t look too bright. She feels alone, but she’s too worried to ask for, or accept help…. Then along comes Ian, a Police officer who shows her some much needed kindness. So, what happens when feelings become involve? What happens when her ‘secret’ is revealed? What happens when the past returns? Can Ian and Rachel learn to trust again, and take a chance on love? Or will their past/s snatch away any chance at a future together?
This story includes some sensitive subject matter, which played an important part in the foundations to the storyline- but was not used gratuitously. It was used to develop some of the backstory of these complex characters- who have experienced more than their fair share of hurt. The author handled the sensitive nature of these topics with care, but she didn’t gloss over the impact it has on its victims. I also appreciated how she ‘helped’ the characters work through their issues and find a way to sort them out.
I though this story was a little heavier on the emotional content than the first book, but it has been a while since I read it- so maybe this one is resonating with me more due to there being 12 months between reading the first book, and picking up this one.
I also loved ‘catching up’ with previous characters and seeing how and what they are doing. I love the Lawson’s and I am really looking forward to reading all the books in the series, and getting to know all these characters a little better. They really are coming to feel like ‘old friends’ of mine, ones I would love have over for a BBQ and drinks. If you’ve read the first book, you will know exactly what I mean- and if you haven’t read these books yet, once you read them you will understand what I am getting at.
This may only be my second read from Ms. Cramer-Kelly, but I feel like I’ve known her and enjoyed her writing for years. She has such an easy, warm, and fluid style which entices you further and further into the story. That coupled with the wonderful characters, and the great storyline- and it makes it difficult to put down.

Thank you, Ms. Cramer-Kelly!

Drawing Strength From Words (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 2) by C.A. King – Review by Chantelle Smith

Drawing Strength From Words (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 2)Drawing Strength From Words by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

C.A. King has done it again. After reading Book #1 I couldn’t wait to see where the story would take us in this one, but one thing that never changes is every time I read one of C.A. King’s books I get totally captivated and thrown into a world that you don’t wanna leave. The writing style that flows from chapter to chapter, it is mentally visual and written with some incredible characters. You are given twists and turns along the way that keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more. It’s full of action and adventure and romance. For this being a shorter read, it wasn’t lacking in anything. It is a book and series not to be missed, I highly recommend this book.

Pieces Of A Lie by Rowena Holloway was an excellent mystery fiction novel. The story is told from multiple points of view making the story more complex. The characters were realistic and easy to relate to. It was also easy to visualize each one. The author provided excellent backstory for each as well.

The story itself had an excellent climax and was organized. It was easy to follow along as it progressed. It also seemed professionally edited. I loved sitting and reading this novel. It pulls the reader in with an intense beginning. Excellent book.

Im seriously running out of descriptive words for this author and her series, I can’t say much more than I absolutely love how she takes each book in these multiple book series and makes each one so different and definitely unpredictable.

I’m loving the Colorado Series as much as the Tuscan chapter series and this one totally threw me. I found myself invested quite early on and unable to put it down till the end. This one had a different twist, something I never thought of even while reading it and I loved it!

These characters all had my heart early on, even those that lost it somewhere along the line, and the issues they faced in different aspects of their lives felt real and I appreciated that.

This was not my favorite of all of the books but still ranks up there with loving every second of it and I am thrilled about who gets the next book and I absolutely can not wait!!

Read these books!! All of them all the way back to Book 1 of Tuscan…You will not be sorry!!

This story pulled me in very quickly. I love how the author makes the MC culture authentic and real without being seamy. She connects with their humanity without betraying their raw masculinity and dominant natures. This story delves into deep feelings and subdued attraction that won’t stay restrained. This is a great love story mixed in with a little bit of mystery and MC/local mafia action.

5 out of 5 stars

The story Imprisoned Online: Gaming the System (A LitRPG Adventure Book 1) by P.A. Wikoff is a fantasy/role-playing book. It is a story that is exciting and intriguing to read. It has action, danger, and wonderful character development. I enjoyed reading about the character of Seph. He is not a gamer however has been sentenced to a virtual correctional facility in which he must play one. Will he be able to survive the game? Read this book to find out. Seph is a character who has to adapt and learn how to play the game that he is in. There are many trials and obstacles that he must overcome. Seph is intelligent and at times stubborn. Two things that will help him on his quest. This story is very detailed, and I felt like I was right there with Seph seeing what he does. It is a fast-paced book that will have you not wanting to put it down until the very end. It is a book I would recommend reading.

SAN DIEGO DEAD (Jake Wolfe Series Book 4) by Mark Nolan – Review by Erin Wolf

San Diego Dead (Jake Wolfe #4)San Diego Dead by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give San Diego Dead: An Action Thriller (Jake Wolfe Book 4) by Mark Nolan, 5 stars.

Jake just wants to have a relaxing vacation with his dog and his girlfriend. However, things quickly turn south. His girlfriend is attacked and it looks like a Mexican cartel may be behind it. Using their former military background Jake and war dog Cody are quickly pulled into things much more frightening than anyone ever imagined. Can they get to the bottom of it? But what will the cost be? While they are trained for this type of thing, they are personally affected in ways they could never imagine.

This book was fascinating. It is the first book I have read in the series and the author did a great job of making me not feel too confused, giving me a brief background of what I needed to know. The story itself pulled me right in, and I could not stop reading until I finished it. I enjoyed how the point of view kept changing too. You got to see things from different angles. The people (and dog) in this book seemed so real and complex. Each one had their own issues they were struggling with while still keeping true to themselves. Some in good ways, some in not so good ways.

This book has an intriguing story, lots of suspense, strong characters, and the cherry on top is of course Cody! I cannot wait to go back and read the previous books. I highly recommend this book.

Protecting His Heart by Tracey Cramer-Kelly a four-star read with all the feels. This is the second story in the Lawson Family series, and you don’t have to have read number one first, but I would say to as they are both great. This is great, it just pulls you in and makes you care so much about Ian and Rachel, the dynamic of their relationship is strong and will surprise you at times. Ian is a cop and he has a past, he knows how damaging secrets can be, but Rachel has a secret that she can not afford to share. Your emotions will be all over when you read this one, so be warned you won’t want to put it down.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Dark Sparrow Box Set contains Three full length novels in the Dark Sparrow Series By India Kells. These three books are Lost Bastard, Cold Bastard and Wild Bastard. This author is one that I have come to enjoy rather quickly, and I just keep devouring more and more of her books. The Dark Sparrow series so far is centered around 6 brothers and Each book in This Box Set is about one of those brothers( Alexsei, Archer, and Kai) and the women they love. The brothers have an evil father and they must band together to bring the evil bastard down. These books took me on a roller coaster of emotions that I didn’t wanna get off of and I enjoyed every second of it. I am looking forward to hopefully reading a story about the remaining brothers and reading more by this author!
Happy Reading!

To Kill a Fae (The Dragon Portal Book 1) by Jamie A. Waters – Review by Maura Harper

To Kill a Fae (The Dragon Portal Series, #1)To Kill a Fae by Jamie A. Waters
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

TO KILL A FAE is the first story in The Dragon Portal series.

I am a huge fan of Fae AND Dragons and all things in between so this book is right up my alley.

There is great world building in this story. Secondary characters are as well developed as the main characters and carry the story along nicely. There is a freshness about the way the story unravels – although it is obvious as to who is what and why (as titles and blurbs tend to give away) I found myself invested in some of the not so nice characters. I wanted their stories also. I look forward to following the series as it continues.

I would recommend this to my teenage cousins and elderly book club members alike.

This was so much more than I thought it would be. Sky is an angel who seems to find trouble. All accidental of course. His job to collect souls is one he struggles with. We meet Caleb aka Mr. Lavender Fields. They have an unbreakable connection. That is until Caleb get his mind erased.

This story was fun and creative. I loved learning about Sky’s job and what he had to do. Calebs sister, Joan, was witty smart and a wonderful addition to the story.

I loved the insta-connection that Caleb and Sky had. I seemed to be able to feel it coming through the pages. I was hesitant to read this because of the material. I am glad I did. It was so much more. This is a well written story with lovable characters.

Let me start by saying it helps to read book 1 to get to know the family dynamic and what some characters in this book have been through before this takes place.

We follow Ian, a police officer and adoptive child of the Lawson family. We get his backstory in this and what a heartstring puller.
And we also get a look into Rachel’s life and my heart broke for her.
These two have so many things going against them from past and present demons, but can they forge ahead stronger together?
I can’t wait to read about Ben next!

Protecting His Heart: a Lawson Family Novel (Lawson Family Series Book 2) by Tracey Cramer-Kelly – Review by Moriah Venable

Protecting His Heart (Lawson Family, #2)Protecting His Heart by Tracey Cramer-Kelly
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Protecting His Heart is the second novel in the Lawson Family series by Tracey Cramer-Kelly. This is my second novel by this author.

Ian is a police officer is in his small hometown. Because of his abusive childhood, he moves in with his best friend’s family who takes him and they eventually move. Once he is older, he returns to town. He isn’t looking for a relationship but has an attraction to Rachel. The more he sees her, the more tempted he is.

Rachel has issues of her own. The guy she thought she would marry but things aren’t looking good. She wants to be a wife and have a family. Her attraction to Ian, makes her think she should break up with her boyfriend Josh.

If she breaks up with Josh, what then? Will Ian and her be able to have a relationship or will his past taint the relationships and life they could have.

I really loved this story. Its very rare that the female lead is already in a relationship with someone before meeting the male lead. Which was some nice added conflict for the plot.

The characters made you feel for them especially Ian. Reading more about him was so heartbreaking but at the same time I was glad that he was able to move away.

I look forward to another novel.

SAN DIEGO DEAD (Jake Wolfe Series Book 4) by Mark Nolan – Review by Sarah Oakes

San Diego Dead (Jake Wolfe #4)San Diego Dead by Mark Nolan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great read about danger. Jake and Cody just wan to have a relaxing vacation in Mexico after protecting their country from dangerous forces. But fate has other ideas when a mysterious woman attacks his girlfriend Sarah. With a drug cartel group behind them, they flee back to America to find safety and also learn more about a mysterious package the cartel desperately wants to retrieve. As events unravel and danger threatens everyone, can Jake and his friends stop these enemies before its too late?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Jake determined but protective underneath or Cody as smart and intelligent and an adorable dog. Great cast of supporting characters like the anxious Sarah or the good friend Pez or Easton as gruff but kind underneath. A great villain in Rop cold and ruthless and menacing. However, at times it felt as if there were to many marines to keep track of which could have been reduced.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the vacation scenes with the beach and the sea for a sense of calm. Or the scenes with the whales as giant but beautiful creatures for asense of woner. Or the scenes with the sharks in the stormy sea, pulling the reader straight into the action from the start wonderfully written. Or the use of the senses throughout the novel with tastes and smells and sounds so vivid its as if you’re actually there.
I also liked the use of switching the perspective to Cody for a dogs narrative which is something you don’t often see in novels and was a great addition to the story. I also liked the use of Mexican culture in the vacation scenes with its language and people and customs given the respect they deserve and giving the novel a sense of character wonderfully written.
The only issue I would raise is that there was a lot of long sentences that made it difficult to read which could eb resolved by a variety of sentence lengths. There was also a lot of repetition with Sarah’s inner dialogue which could also be reduced. Fast paced action and high stakes made for a captivating read. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars..

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3)Hitting The High Note by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“The guardians of the four gates remained faithful to their cause through the ages – seeking out and destroying demons trying to free their forefather from the confines of the hell he had been sentenced to live in. Thousands of years later, a new threat appeared on the horizon…”

Well played, Ms. King. Well played indeed! I definitely didn’t see those twists coming. Sneaky and oh so clever!! My anticipation level is set on HIGH for what the next book will reveal.
Hitting the High Note is A Four Horsemen Novel (Book 3) by C.A King. I have seriously loved all Ms. King’s books- but there is just something about this series which has really captured my imagination. I love where it is leading, and the twist/s in this book had my mind reeling with possibilities and leaping to conclusions. I love the bridging story which spans the entire series, as well as each ‘individual couples’ story- there is so much going on, in a great way- and Ms. King orchestrates everything incredibly well. As with the other two books, this story drew me in and I soon lost all sense of time and place, as I was plunged into a fantastic adventure.
This series is Ms. King’s take/twist on the four horsemen legend- and what she has produced is a wonderfully imaginative urban fantasy that has action, adventure, demigods, demons, good vs evil, mystery, suspense, drama, danger, scheming, jealousy, hidden agendas, set-ups, truth, brotherhood, camaraderie, humour, and a sweet romance.
Uriel (Uri) is one of the 4 horsemen of legend, who we discovered back in book one, are real- and along with his 2 brothers and 1 sister, have been tasked with guarding the gates to hell. Uri is the joker of the group, always quick with the funny quips and banter. But there is much more to him than the goofy cowboy he comes across as- as we soon discover in this book. When his ‘investigation, places him in the path of a feisty red head, he thinks she’s antagonistic and rude.
Bekka is a talented musician, with performance anxiety. She yearns to be brave enough to one day play in an orchestra, but in the meantime, she spends her days running her music supply store, which has been in her family for generations. There have been a spate of break and enters in the neighbourhood recently which has her concerned- she may wish for a little more excitement, but not that type of excitement. When she comes across Uriel in the neighbourhood, their encounter doesn’t end well, thanks to her social awkwardness and his protective nature. She thinks he’s overbearing and egotistical. So, what happens when danger comes calling and secrets are revealed? Things definitely aren’t what they seem in this captivating story. The few twists certainly had me sitting up and taking notice. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us in “When the Paint Dries”. Bring on Book 4!!!!
Fantastic!!!

Thank you, Ms. King!

5-Stars

Elemental Fae Academy (Elemental Fae Academy Book 2) by Lexi C. Foss & J.R. Thorn was just as exciting as. The first book! I loved that her other mates were finally brought into the picture with this book. Exos is locked away for most of this book which made his brother have to step in to continue with Claire’s training. I was amazed how quickly things escalated in book two. The ending had a huge shock for me. I loved it!

As with the first book in this series, I really enjoyed the development of each character. Each was unique in his and her own way. I loved the different connections each Fae male had with Claire. I also loved the magical scenery in this novel which seemed to play up the abilities of the Fae. This was an excellent novel and great addition to its series.

I absolutely loved this book. Its one of those books that once you start reading it, you’ll push doing everything else off just so you can read another chapter, or in my case, the whole thing! It definitely takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions which is something that you would want in a romance novel. I loved the dynamic of the characters. Rachel has a secret and one that at all cost cannot not tell. Ian is a cop that grew up in a rough house. Rachel is all about the family life and Ian doesn’t believe he can love. The dynamic between these two were perfection and I cannot wait for more!

Ailey of Skye by Wendy Hewlett – Review by Shannon Fowler

Ailey of SkyeAiley of Skye by Wendy Hewlett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my first book by Wendy Hewlett so I did not know what to expect other than it was a self-discovery story with a possible love story. Little did I know that 2 chapters in and I would be “a blubbering fool” as well! Parent child relationships are so personal to me because I am both a parent and a child. My relationships with my parents/stepparents is rocky at best; however my relationship with my children is so much better. Whenever I read a story involving parents and their children I always get a little misty eyed. The way Hewlett has written the relationships with Ailey and her family had me sobbing. Then laughing, then angry, then smiling! You know: all the feels!

This story was filled with so many twists and surprises all because one man was a selfish liar. I loved watching Ailey discover herself, her family’s secrets and her new found friends. Everyone needs true friends, ones you can trust, ones you can laugh and cry with, ones that just get you. Friends that are really your tribe!

I don’t want to give away any more of this story but I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to see what else Hewlett has up her sleeve!

Commit an online crime, go to an online jail. In this MMORPG penal colony, inmates PVP to gain EXP, loot, and most of all…survive.

Seph has been sentenced to play in one of these virtual correctional facilities. Sounds fun right? Maybe for some, but there is no worse punishment for Seph, mostly because he isn’t a gamer. Will he be able to complete his sentence with all the trials and objectives thrown at him? Trapped in a virtual world he cannot escape, Seph now has to step outside of his comfort zone and align himself with the very thing he’s been rebelling against his whole life–the system.

Game designer and avid gamer, P.A. Wikoff wrote this story as a love letter to a lifetime of gaming.
