Into the Light (Moon Harbor Series Book 3) by Kate McWilliams – Review by Karyn Taylor

Into the LightInto the Light by Kate McWilliams

I dived into this book, falling in love with the characters straight away, then realised that it’s not the first book in the series…oops. Thankfully, each book can be read as a standalone but now I want to read the stories of the 2 couples who came before, who have a large secondary role in this book.
I hadn’t read any of this author’s work before so wasn’t sure what to expect. What I got was a great brother’s best friend romance that was filled with danger and drama too. Just what I needed to read on a wet weekend in Glasgow. I got totally lost in Raf and Ellie’s story.
Raf has loved Ellie for years but she’s his best friend’s little sister – a no-go area. Added to the fact that he has a past that he’s ashamed of and things he’s not good enough for her. Meanwhile Ellie has loved Raf for years but assumes he just sees her like a little sister and not the grown-up woman that she is.
This is an angst filled read that becomes spicy when the couple realise that they can’t hold back the feelings they have for each other. I really didn’t want to put this book down.
100% recommend.

Hate You Later (Lit Lovers Series Book 1) by Ciara Blume – Review by Alison Risher

Hate You Later (Lit Lovers, #1)Hate You Later by Ciara Blume
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Although this love story has a classic theme, there are several twists. The main characters are amazing, and the growth they show throughout the novel is phenomenal! The female protagonist learns to ask others for help, rather than always insisting on doing everything by herself or on her own. The male protagonist learns that he is worthy of love without having to do things for people. The pets are a great addition!

Wow The Victor is the first book in The Freemasons Series and is a second chance Contemporary Romance that once you start reading there’s no stopping until you finish. You may want to have tissues near by as this one will have your emotions all over the place. Some parts my heart hurt for both of them. This series is off to a great start and I look forward to reading the others soon. This is a short story that packs a punch right to your heart. These two both have secrets and he’s not even close to letting her go without a fight. Can these two survive the secrets and move on? Is it to late and she’s determined to move on without him? Mafia Elite Series Box Set Volume 2 by Amy McKinley – Review by Karyn Taylor

Mafia Elite Box Set: Volume TwoMafia Elite Box Set: Volume Two by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This boxset contains the final 4 full length novels in the Mafia Elite Series. These are:
Savage Secrets
Ruthless Heir
Collateral Damage
Rivals

This is a fantastic boxset, each book being given a 5 star review by myself. This author is the queen of writing romantic suspense and I could lose myself in these books for hours and hours on end. I know that this boxset is one that I will read several times.

Set among the 5 mafia families in Chicago, we get the stories of the men who lead each family and the women they fall in love with, most of whom also come from among the 5 families.

The men in the mafia elite are serious alpha males who take no crap and their women who are just as stubborn and kick-ass as they are. Marco & Elena, Luc & Summer, Trey & Hailey and Nico and Mia are amazing couples, whose stories are filled with so much drama, intrigue and danger. Added to that is the amazing romance story of each couple and you get a boxset that has absolutely everything.

100% recommend this box set.

The Intruders by Brett McKay – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

The IntrudersThe Intruders by Brett McKay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What kind of knowledge would a down and out car salesman possess? Dex’s captors thought it was important enough to abduct his whole family. After many hours of torture the abductors realize that they have nabbed the wrong guy. Now with his life and that of his family are marked for death he must find a way to free them. Will he be successful? This was a book that started out with action and never let up the whole way through. If you like books that have twists and turns and will keep you turning the pages I suggest you give this a try. This was the first book inhave read by this author and I was not disappointed. If any of his other books are anything like this one he has gained a new fan.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a unique book and a very interesting, new-to-me author! I was surprised to see how this book is set up to include the author’s notes. At first I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it but I’ve decided that I really loved it for this book. It’s great to get in the mind of the writer and see where they were going with something, or why they chose to write the scene the way they did. I really appreciate this unique angle.

Now about the book….wow!!! It grabs you from the first word and just doesn’t let go until it’s over! Dex is a regular ole car salesman, a family man. Regan, his wife is lovely and has her hands full with their two boys. They find themselves abducted and in a weird place, enduring all sorts of torture until they can escape. Or have they really escaped?

This ones got some pretty cool nuggets in it and I think they enhance the story even more. I look forward to reading more of this author’s work!

Defying Ella (True Platinum Series Book 4) by Morgana Bevan – Review by Beverly Finnie

Defying EllaDefying Ella by Morgana Bevan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Defying Ella hit close to home in some ways. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not the musician and fame aspect but the relationship dynamic. I’ve had a similar dynamic with my husband at the beginning. If we were snowed in, in the Alps there would’ve been a similar situation between us early on. The author put together a well written relatable story. One where you feel you could be a part of. Ella and Jared are an adverse pair. They care for one another but would never admit it. They go toe to toe often. Everyone around them feels like they hate each other. They don’t know everything. They don’t know the history. Getting away from him is just what Ella needs. Unfortunately for her he shows up unexpectedly. They both unexpectedly booked the same time at the lodge. Well little did they know they would get stuck together unable to go anywhere. Forcing them to face the music. Will it all come out? Will they deal with what’s between them? The roller coaster between these two is crazy. And I absolutely love what the author has done. I love the story being told. I completely understand and sympathize with both characters’ feelings. I started with book 4, though part of a series is very much a standalone. I want more from this author. I’m now going to go back and read books 1-3, then this one again. Now is your chance to discover a new author or to continue what I can tell is a great series just by this book.

Into the Light (Moon Harbor Series Book 3) by Kate McWilliams – Review by Jess Engel

Into the LightInto the Light by Kate McWilliams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great read! I really enjoyed Ellie and Raf’s story and this story by a new to me author.

This was a quick, easy read. Ellie, the younger sister of Raf’s best friend, is in the midst of great loss but determined and kind and secretly crushing on Raf. Raf wrought with his own demons and feeling as though he brings bad luck to those around him, likes Ellie but is determined to stay away, but can he really?

I enjoyed the character and story development and the story stood on its own well. The author did a wonderful job creating tension within the story, keeping the reader turning the pages. I throughly enjoyed the entirety of this book and recommend it. I can’t wait to catch up on the rest of this series.

This book was so creative and smart! A story of single life and dating. How hard is it to find love? Exceptionally hard in a city of heartless souls. It makes you feel like “all he wanted you for was your body.” De Blassie is a genius, and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.

Just One More Egg: A Science Folktale (Science Folktales)Just One More Egg: A Science Folktale by Lois Wickstrom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When a cuckoo lays an egg in a warbler’s nest, Mama Warbler isn’t sure what to do! Her friend suggests she get rid of the egg, but she is determined to take care of it! Mama Warbler takes care of the baby cuckoo, treating it like she would her own. One day, when Mama Warbler is in danger, the baby cuckoo repays her kindness.

This story was beautifully written with scientific details, while still being fun and relatable. Kids are able to learn a valuable lesson on how to treat others with kindness and accept everyone, even if they are different. My kids loved the colorful illustrations in this story! The pictures brought the story to life and connected everything together! I can not wait to read more by this author.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hate You Later is an enemies-to-lovers Rom-Com story by Ciara Blume. Georgia and Hudson clash in person but are strongly attracted to each other. However, when these two chat online as their pets they get along wonderfully. The story reminds me a bit of “You’ve Got Mail”. I really enjoyed this story. There is excellent chemistry between Georgia and Hudson. There are plenty of sweet moments as well as moments that have you laughing out loud. I loved the involvement of their pets in the story. This is a very good read and entertaining read.

Gut wrenching and tears is a good way to describe this book but it’s also so very funny and full of love. There are plot twists at every turn and it’s just a great store. I love anise storms stories. Damian and Evie, at first I thought she was crazy, like stalker crazy but in the end I get it and it’s just what Damian needed. Damian so smart and sexy fell for Evie long ago but his current situation isn’t best for her. It’s a whirlwind of back and forth. Great read though!

Rafael Marroquin may be quiet, but there is a reason. He does not want to get close to ANYBODY, but he is still helpful if someone needs him. As long as he stays away nobody gets hurt. Ellie Walters is strong and depends on nobody. With her parents gone, she wants to travel her own journey. How will these friends get to the place they want to be? Will there be a romance for them? No Spoilers here! This author is new to me and her book could be read as a standalone. However this one was so good that I must go get book 1 and 2 in this series. This author’s writing is so clear as well as fast paced. I love the characters and even more the strong independent Ellie. Definitely a must read.

Mafia Elite Box Set: Volume TwoMafia Elite Box Set: Volume Two by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mafia Elite Series Box Set: Volume Two contains the last 4 books in this amazing series. What a bargain and what better way to have all 4 books available to read one straight after the other.

Savage Secrets Book 4 –

I have not read one book from this author that I have not thoroughly loved. I see Amy’s name and must get the book; it really is a no brainer. Her writing is addictive, and I am hooked. This is another explosive story for this wonderful series. The intensity and anticipation are palpable and just explodes of the pages. This author does dark mafia romance suspense like no one else. It is rife with angst and fear, violence and danger, darkness, and secrets, and lies. The complex threads that Amy weaves her stories, and her characters keeps you coming back for more. You will be riveted to the pages and find that hours have passed by the time you manage to pull yourself away.

She thought she had more time but now she is once again in the fight for her life.

Ruthless Heir Book 5 –

I am in love with this mafia romance series. Amy just keeps surprising me and when I think she can’t do any better she does. She always ups the ante with each book. You need to read the books in order, or you are missing out on sooooooooo much.
This book has it all making it a great romantic suspense story, with plenty of action and danger, violence and intrigue, murder and drama, secrets and lies, and let’s not forget the amazing sizzle factor and off the chart’s chemistry. I almost feel like I have run a marathon after reading this as. There are surprises around every corner, tension runs high, and the suspense is palpable.
This is Luc and Summer’s story, and they are great characters. They are complex and fully developed and oh so loveable.
I am not going to share anything because Amy’s gems need to be discovered all on their own.

Collateral Damage Book 6 –

I jumped for joy when I saw this next book in the Mafia Elite series and made sure to snatch it up immediately. Amy is one of my fav authors and there are not many books of hers that I have not read. I love her writing and she never lets me down. It is dark and gripping, intense and enthralling, suspenseful and thrilling, steamy and exciting. I really enjoy the unpredictability of not knowing what comes next, of always being on my toes and it is never what I expect.
Still reeling from a loss so deep Trey was not in a good place when they crossed paths. Now she is in danger. He knows he can’t leave her there; he has to help her but in doing so puts him in danger to.
Make sure you start this series from the beginning now: you won’t be disappointed.

Rivals Book 7 –

Nobody does a Mafia romance suspense like Amy does. It’s a no-brainer when I see Amy has a new book. Click and grab and I lose myself in her dark and delicious stories. Rivals is the seventh book in this amazing series. Make sure you start at book one and work your way through.
Amy’s writing is captivating, engrossing, and intriguing. This gripping new book has revenge, action, suspense and thrills from beginning to end. It is full of drama, violence, mystery, intrigue, danger, twists and plenty of heart pounding palpable moments. I was on the edge of my seat the whilst devouring page after page. I needed to know what was happening.
He is brutal, deliciously dark, and broken with an impenetrable heart.
She is the enemy. She is sleek and sexy with a body that is seductive sin.
Together they are explosive and positively sinful.

You never go wrong when reading a book in this Mafia Elite series written by Amy.

This short story is a quick and engaging read. A fun story about trying to date after a virus has hit the world. The main character is searching for a connection and hopefully with someone who is more alive than dead. We get to see the struggles they face and the hope that they have. As quick as this story is it gives readers a well-rounded story. You are pulled into the world that the author has created and I for one would love to see more.

Breathe Underwater by Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray – Review by Emily Nolden

5 out of 5 stars

The story of a second chance.

Have you ever read a book where you crave to be the main character? Despite all the hardships, and every mountain that character climbs?

That is this book for me! Hands down, so amazing! I’m writing a review, yet I cannot put to words how much I absolutely LOVE this book!

Thank you Anise Storm and Taylor L. Ray for writing such an amazing book, that I read through the night!

“Evelyn, when I was left to drown underwater, you were the air that kept me breathing. It has always been you, and it will only ever be you.”

Who doesn’t want to be told this? To have this kind of love, compassion, and unending protection!

Let’s not forget about the steam! My oh my, did Storm and Ray know how to write these scenes! Warning: do not read in extreme heat or around other people, haha.

Overall such a great book, and I can’t wait to read more of these authors books!

Boss’s Vendetta (Sicilian Gods Book 1) by Via Mari – Review by M Policicchio

Boss's Vendetta: Dark Mafia Romance (Sicilian Gods Book 1)Boss’s Vendetta: Dark Mafia Romance by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This author knows how to begin a series. You make the characters strong and relatable. You throw in some mafia rules and regulations, some guns, some lies and deception, a little violence, a whole lot of steam, and then you kill off all your enemies. Well, maybe not all….I mean, can you ever truly kill off ALL of your enemies in a mafia series??

Adrianna is a complicated woman. A doctor, a woman out for revenge, a daughter, an orphan, a woman seeking answers. All her life she was told that her father was killed by the Larussio family before her birth. Her mother never revealed her father’s name. After years of studying to become a doctor and plotting to get the revenge she seeks, Adrianna takes a job as an in-house doctor for the Larussio’s new casino in Las Vegas. She hopes this will let her get close enough to get the answers she is so desperate for but will it lead to more?

Salvatore is thrust into the position of next in line due to his older brothers taking other roles. He is the right man for the job but some feel that he doesn’t deserve and hasn’t earned it. And those are just his cousins. As Salvatore starts to fight the enemies within, he finds that they are linked to the enemies outside the family. What he didn’t need at this moment was a distraction, a weakness for his enemies to exploit but that is exactly what Adrianna, the new doctor, has become to him. How does he manage to keep the woman that he has been waiting his entire life for and his family safe when she might be the one they need protecting from?

There was so much in this book. So much good stuff, stuff that will keep you coming back for the next one in the series, so much that will make you fall for the dark prince. So glad that I found this series!! It is fantastic!!!!

The Intruders by Brett McKay – Review by Kerry Carr

The IntrudersThe Intruders by Brett McKay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow what a story this was. It is a great Thriller that had me hooked from the first page. I just couldn’t stop reading which to me is a sign of a good book. The author has put a lot of effort into getting inside the minds of the characters and it has really paid off in the writing. You feel you are beside the characters and witnessing and feeling everything first hand which only makes the story more compelling. The insight into the characters mind also makes them more real and not just some words on the page.

Dex is a loving father and husband. He’s a bit down on his luck but he will do anything for his family. He seems stuck in his dead end job until the day a strange package arrives.
Dex doesn’t open the package however so has no idea what is about to happen.
When strangers break into his house and kidnap Dex and his wife and kids, Dex’s whole world is turned upside down.
Now he faces unimaginable torture while the strange men try to get answers from him. But he doesn’t have any answers?
What follows is a really painful time as he is tortured, while they try to get to answer he doesn’t possess.
Can Dex escape this hell and find a way of saving himself and his family? What do these people want? And is there some connection to Dex that even he isn’t aware of.

This book is a gripping fast paced read that will keep you hooked. It is full of danger and tension and will take you on a rollercoaster of a ride as the story unravels.

Cheryl Burman’s River Witch is a beautiful story, written for a multitude of readers who may be interested in the romance aspect, or the history, or mythology, or fantasy, or coming-of-age aspect. The story starts with a young Hester, a farmer’s daughter, who meets Aaron, a man skilled in herbal lore. The river goddess, Sabrina, and the nymphs, call to Hester, and we follow her journey as she makes sure neither her family or people she meets along the way will stop her from following her own path and achieving her dreams. Cheryl builds a world and describes it so perfectly it feels as if you are there.

I was surprised by this one. This was slow going at first and I wondered if I would even finish it. But then I was swept away into the lives of these two characters. I loved watching them fall(?) or become good friends. Wil did a complete turn around as he was in awe of El and her talent. Music is definitely a large part of their lives.

I love the title and how WE came to be. There are so many neat wordings and comments in here. I do have some highlighted. I was disappointed in the ending (epilogue) as it is unfulfilling and incomplete. Then the authors say if I wanted the rest I had to subscribe to their newsletter. Poor choice!

Mafia Elite Series Box Set Volume 2 by Amy McKinley – Review by Shelly Kittell

Mafia Elite Box Set: Volume TwoMafia Elite Box Set: Volume Two by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Now this is a box set you just don’t want to miss. Mafia romance that will keep you glued to your Kindle. These stories are full of drama, action, and romance with that perfect touch of steamy. These are just a couple of the stories in the set. They are incredible. You’ll find yourself feeling all the emotions on this ride…
Collateral Damage:
Trey and Hailey’s story, one of my favorites in the series, has brought out the emotions as I’ve read it. This story will have you riding the emotional roller-coaster as Trey is the mellow, doctor, brother of Marco, Nico and Sophia. He gets to fix up the injured and he works as a surgeon at the hospital. Hailey has a naughty side and gets herself caught up in a big problem at the hospital. Trey rescues her but there are still big issues. Plot twist that noone sees coming. This author writes phenomenal stories that have you feeling the action, drama, mystery, romance, all of it like you are right there. It’s the only series that I yell at the characters in the book like I yell at the TV. I am so engaged that it makes the book a winner for me and that’s how it has been the whole series. The characters are so full of human personality and quirks that they feel real and you can empathize with them. The plot flows smooth, no chop, even with going back and forth between characters. The story feels so real One of my favorite authors because of the fact that she can keep you engaged all the way through. I would give it more than a 5 if I were allowed. It will be on my Best of 2022 list.
Rivals:
A truly bittersweet moment has been had. I have had the pleasure of reading this series from the beginning to what is now the end. The story of the Five Families, aka The Chicago Mafia, has now been told in such a manner that you feel like you are leaving close friends. The main characters in ‘Rivals’ are Nico La Rosa and Mia Tucci. Unfortunately, I cannot share a whole lot with you because it just gives away too much. The author grabs you right from the start. Each book basically picks up where the last one left off. In this book, we also get to visit with everyone except Max and Luc (and their wives) as they were in Italy. Everyone else played a pivotal role in helping Nico and Mia take down the New York Tucci and Amata family. There are moments that will live in your mind such as Mia meeting the other wives and she’s told that they will love her, but they will have no qualms at killing her either. My favorite are the quiet moments between her and Nico. They are tender and romantic in a chaotic environment. The plot just stays right on task with a twist thrown in here and there, and it just comes right back. This author is extraordinarily talented and her writing is also. Her female characters are strong and courageous. This series is one that I recommend to all my friends that love romantic suspense and Mafia. Hot, steamy and fantastic! It would get more than 5 stars if I could give them.

Borrowed Time by Lane Cohen – Review by Shelly Kittell

Borrowed TimeBorrowed Time by Lane Cohen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fascinating book. This is a new author for me. I loved the look at history and time travel. One has good reasons for wanting to travel through time while the other is just a man who can’t take no for an answer. The book takes a look at man/woman relationships. Friendships are also viewed. The book has so many angles to view it from that I did get a little lost at times (only because history loses me). I found the characters well0developed and relatable. They had their quirks. It’s an engaging tale that sucks you right in and drags you into the story wanting more. I definitely recommend this story. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

I found this biblical fiction to be short and, yet, quite interesting. A short story based on the tearing of the veil inside the Jewish Tabernacle is a different take. Something extraordinary is witnessed in the temple. Believers will find this book to be a neat little addition to their fiction library. What I really like is the author gives readers information to become believers in and of Christ. This book gave me goosebumps. I enjoyed it.

A fantastic box set of the second half of the wonderful Mafia Elite series! Each of these books is amazing and all are 5 star reads! I 100% recommend these books!!

Savage Secrets

Yet again another fantastic read from this author. I don’t think I will ever tire of reading her stories they always grab my attention from the first page until the last. There was honestly so much going on in this story I was definitely on the edge of my seat at times. I loved Marco and Elena’s story; it was fantastic to read. I really loved Elena, with everything she had to contend with she showed such strength of character when faced with danger. Marco has this wonderful mafia dark broodiness to him and the fierce protective side which I loved! He’s definitely swoon-worthy!!

Ruthless Heir

What an amazing read but I shouldn’t be surprised considering this author is the Queen of Mafia romance reads!! I loved Luc and Summer’s story and I am definitely going to say this is by far my favourite from this author – everything about it was just perfection! It was exciting to read, the characters grabbed my attention from the very beginning. There was passion and chemistry galore – it was just a phenomenal read – it really was. I was on the edge of my seat on more than one occasion and literally didn’t put the book down once I had started it.

Collateral Damage

Oh what a story! I don’t know how this author does it – every single story she writes is just amazing, nothing is repeated, no two characters are the same and they are always amazing reads! Trey and Hailey’s story was just fantastic from start to finish – it had everything I’ve come to expect from this talented author and more. I’ve been waiting for Trey’s story for a while and it didn’t disappoint. I loved the chemistry between him and Hailey – after everything he’d been through he definitely deserved his happy ever after. I say this a lot but I definitely feel like this one if one of my favourites from this author so far and definitely my favourite form this series!

Rivals

Another fantastic 5 star read from this author! This might be the seventh book in the series but it can be read a standalone however I would highly recommend reading the books in order. This was Mia and Nico’s story and what a story it was! The chemistry was there between these two characters almost instantly but as with all mafia romances things aren’t as simple and clear cut as they are meant to be! I loved that Mia wasn’t your usual naive heroine – she was feisty and happy to stand up for herself!
This was a riveting read and one that had me hooked from beginning to end.

Sessrúmnir (Antipodes Series Book 5) by T.S. Simons

Sessrúmnir is the fifth book in the Antipodes Series and is a Dystopian/Post Apocalyptic/Sci-Fi/ Romance that is packed with adventure, action, drama, love loss and so much more. I just want to say I love the cover and I’m a fan of this author and Series. I’m a bit sad to see it end but I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing what this author has in store for us next. I highly recommend reading this series in order as each book is just as good as the last and you get a better idea of what has been going on and you get to know the incredible characters. This series is definitely going on my list of re-reads. Get ready to be taken on quite the adventure as they come together to protect what really matters there children. I don’t want to give anything away. I highly recommend reading this book to find out how everything is wrapped up. Im so excited to read more from this Author.
