Ember’s Secret (Solstice Quartet #1) by Catherine Peace

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Ember’s Secret is a great read and an easy one at that. The next book is something I’m looking forward to.

Ember has always had a dream, but doesn’t think she can make it happen. When she meets Austin it’s close to Solstice. With his help will she be able to make her dream come true? The quote I chose for Ember is: “These dishes turned into a blend of traditional and … something. I wouldn’t call it fusion, but it’s different. Maybe more Americanized than I’d like. I tried a new appetizer and new entree. Wanted to get your opinion.”

Austin is a foodie by heart and wants to own his own restaurant. Breaking down in the middle of nowhere may be a blessing in disguise. Can he make his dream of settling down and being a chef come true? The quote I chose for Austin is: “Getting down those ideas you mentioned last night and implementing them as soon as possible.”

Highly recommended for Paranormal Fantasy lovers.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Death & Mirrors is a fantastic read. I had a hard time putting this book down. I’m looking forward to the next book. This is the first book in the All Things Dark & Deadly Series.

Evaline is a necromancer and is trying to bring her mother’s ghost forward. She feels like she didn’t get a proper goodbye. Her father doesn’t approve of the magic use. Then something happens and Evaline knows the only thing that can stop it. The quote I chose for Evaline is: “No. I can take care of it myself. Were you or maybe Mr. Pemberton on the steps earlier?”

Taming of the Few: A Thrilling Irish Urban Fantasy Adventure (Guardians of the PHAE #1) by Rowan Dillon

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Taming of the Few is an amazing book. It’s also the first of the genre I’ve read that’s had me hooked from the beginning. It’s the first book in the Guardians of the PHAE series.

Anna is a teacher who isn’t exactly all human. She’s got scales on her skin and one of her students catches it. She has to hide it before something happens. The quote I chose for Anna is: “I’m not sure what you mean. One of my students came back after practice while I did laps. Surely that’s not an issue?”

Max is a soldier and now he’s teaming up with Anna. Can she help him overcome his PSTD? Can he help her overcome the fact that she’s not exactly all human. The quote I chose for Max is: “Oi, you don’t waste time, do you, Hiroki? I would never have thought it of ya. Look at you, the ladies’ man!”

Highly recommended for Paranormal Fantasy lovers.

“When Xenobia arrived on Earth seven years ago she was given an opportunity to start over.”

What a great book! I couldn’t stop reding Xenobia is such a strong character. Mrs. Valkyrie does a wonderful job of making you feel like you’re there with the characters as the story unfolds. Her style of writing and word choices make it so you have the image in your mind as you read each page excited to see what happens next. I never pictured myself reading this style of book but boy was I wrong! I’ll be looking for more of Mrs. Valkyrie’s work to read.

As soon as I started reading this story I couldn’t put it down. I was intrigued from the start. I needed to see where Xenobia’s choices in taking care of her best friend Maggie and the other women in her houses going to take her and the women. Xenobia has left her past in hopes of a new beginning and has found herself in a whole different situation that she wasn’t expecting. There are also many other wonderful and interesting characters in this story that you will love to meet. This book is written in multiple perspectives and I found that to be quite enjoyable. This story is full of twists and turns, originality, action, emotion, supernatural, and so much more. I loved reading this book and can’t wait to read more from this author. I highly recommend this book.

The Rise Of House Valdis is the first book in the House Valdis Series by Naomi Valkyrie. It is a truly amazing debut story, and I believe it will be the first of many great reads. This Sci-Fi Romance is full of interesting characters and the plot line had me hooked from the beginning. Xenobia is a strong female dealing with a whole new world. The story was fast paced and with great descriptions. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this new adventure.

The cover of this book first drew me in. Finding out that it is a paranormal fantasy was a plus because that’s my favourite genre. It has werewolves, vampires and weirdly, aliens, which usually fall under sci-fi. I decided to give it a try and see where it goes. The story has action, love and lots of drama. It shows that this is the author’s debut novel. I feel that in the beginning of the book, the author was unsure in which direction she wanted the story to head in. As you are reading, you feel her get her bearings and the story takes off.

The book is written in multiple points of views which I don’t mind because it allows you to better understand the story as a whole. Unfortunately, the author used too many in this instance. I feel two points would have been enough. I loved how protective Xenobia was over the women that she took into her home. Although Xen has been through a lot herself, it only made her stronger and more understanding. I would have preferred a stronger male lead. This one was confused most of the time, flip flopping between two people.

Overall the story was original and kept me interested. I believe this book has the potential to turn into a very exciting series. I think Ms. Valkyrie did a wonderful job writing her first novel and she’ll only get better. Looking forward to seeing what else she has in store for us.

The Rise of House of Valdis by Naomi Valkyrie a five-star read that will rise above. This is the first novel in the House of Valdis series, and I can’t wait for more. This was a great story and so well written that I was surprised to discover that it was a debut novel. The story unfolds and is told from multiple points of view and this is great as it gives you a greater background to the story, a greater perspective to get more of the story. There are a couple of small parts that I was a little lost at, but when I realised it was a debut that made it clear then how this was, I just re-read a couple of paragraphs and it made more sense. The characters are unique and interesting and they have a great depth to them, I am so excited to get my hands on number two.

What I love about books the most is the characters and the journey they take in the story. In this story, Xen is a strong woman that I enjoyed reading about. Her journey in this book kept the story interesting and flowing pretty well. This is told from several different characters pov so you need to check out to see whose pov each chapter is written. This is the author’s first book, and I felt that she did well. I am interested in what she puts out in the future.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Rise of House Valdis is the first novel in the House Valdis series by Naomi Valkyrie.

I went into the novel knowing nothing about the story. The cover caught my attention and I thought it was time to give something different a chance. I’m glad I did.

It’s been seven years since Xenobia arrived on Earth looking for a fresh start. Her best friend Maggie is the only one who knows her secret.

She runs her company helping young girls out of situations. When she agrees to help a man out with his daughter, it unravels a chain of events that may cause Xenobia to reveal her true identity.

I was so blown away by how engrossed I was by this story and learning more about Xenobia. I love Xenobia’s character and how she was protecting her girls.

I don’t want to give anything away but I do look forward to the next novel.

The Rise of House Valdis: House of Valdis book 1 by Naomi Valkyrie is a 3 star read.
Xenobia is from another planet and has spent the last seven years on earth protecting women who are in the sex trade, women she rescued from a man named Javier. The only person who knows who she really is is her best friend Maggie. A man comes to her telling her that Javier wants the girls back and shows that he will do anything to get them back, this puts Xenobia in a tough spot that she needs to put more of herself out there and trust more people with who she really is.
Reading the blurb of this book had me thinking the book was going to be different to what it is, the story flowed in parts but it would then give some of the story from multiple points of view and I felt that I was going backwards instead of forwards, I did enjoy some of this book but it jumped around and I felt that parts of the story that needed to be told were missing, this is all my own opinion and I would suggest reading for yourself and making your own mind up.

Rise of the House Valdis by Naomi Valkyrie is a fast-paced little story about relationships. All kinds of relationships. Xenobia is just trying to keep her girls safe in her own household, but her household keeps growing and becoming more than she ever imagined. The story is told from several different viewpoints and sometimes it seems repetitious but you’re just getting a different viewpoint. And that’s kind of different. But it all works together in the end.

This was another new author to me and so I had no idea what to expect but when you see a cover that bright and interesting it is hard to deny my brain the desire it has for knowing what will happen between the beautiful covers that grace this novel. Mega win on the cover for starters, then add the fact that this is a powerful and bold story that kept me on the edge of my seat waiting and waiting for each little tidbit to fall into place. I adored inner and well overall dialog of the main character, Xen. She made this book all that it was and more and I am eager to find out what will await in the following novels that I am praying come in short order. This is one you will have to take my word for it. It is a complicated but not overdone story that will keep you well entertained and have you falling in love with a new set of characters! Not enough good to say! Run and one click I am sure you won’t be disappointed one bit!

The Rise of House Valdis was a great 5 star read and book one in the House Valdis series.

Xenobia came to earth seven years ago, We start out with her best friend Maggie giving her a hard time about getting out and dating. But she has a fear that they will see what she really is and she doesn’t want to take that risk. Maggie is the only one who knows what she is.

When someone dangerous resurfaces fiver years later, she is wondering why now? Things take a dangerous turn and she is asked to help a girl named “Mercy”. When she finds Mercy she is being attacked by two men, she saves her and brings her home with her. Can she keep Mercy safe?

Matt is investigating the death of three men, he meets Xen when he goes to question her. He knows that there is more to her story. Matt has his own secret and when he reveals it to Xen she is shocked, I actually had a LOL moment at her reaction.

There is so much more to this story that is told in several POV’s. Overall I really enjoyed this read. Xen ends up finding out that she isn’t alone, will she finally fit in?. All of the secondary characters were great. I was pulled right in by Naomi’s writing. This is my first read from this author and I was pleasantly surprised and I look forward to reading more from her. 1-click and get started today on this great paranormal read.

Naomi Valkyrie has hit a home run with The Rise of House Valdis (House Valdis book 1). This story has a little bit of mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, actions and danger. Once I started reading, I knew I was going to have to complete the book. Valkyrie ties her characters and the plot line very well. The characters are multidimensional and the plot keeps you on your toes. Story is about Xen and her ability to have a second chance on earth. Xen best friend is Maggie, who is the only one who knows what Xen really is. Xen had to make a decision which can cause a problem. There are things that she cannot have exposed otherwise it may cause more danger than good. Will Xen be able to trust others about her true nature or Will Xen have some tough road ahead. I cannot wait to see what happens in the book.

The Rise of House Valdis (House Valdis #1)The Rise of House Valdis by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Rise of House Valdis is the first intriguing story in the House Valdis series, and debut novel by Naomi Valkyrie. This is a very original fantasy, with sci-fi elements, action, danger, ‘powers’, responsibility, discovery, and more. I fell in love with the cover, before I even knew anything about the book. I wanted to read it as soon as I laid eyes on that gorgeous cover. I was so curious to find out what it was all about and couldn’t wait to dive in.
As I said, the story is quite original, with quirky characters who were really well developed and interesting. I definitely wanted to follow Xenobia and the rest of the cast to see how everything would play out in the end. The danger and suspense that was woven into the story added a great level of tension and drama. There was also an emotive quality to parts of the story, which also added to the overall ‘feel’ of the book.
The story is told from multiple, alternating points of view, which gives the reader a broad perspective of everything that’s going on. Naomi Valkyrie style is descriptive and detailed, painting each scene in vivid detail. But I did find that at times the story lagged a bit as we get a little ‘lost’ in the descriptive details. Then at other times I felt there were aspects which weren’t detailed enough- where I had to draw a few of my own conclusions, or where I felt I may have ‘missed’ something (but hadn’t). I did re-read some parts because of this and still was left wondering. This didn’t distract from my overall enjoyment of the book- and I feel it was just a case of Ms. Valkyrie ‘finding her feet’ as a new author. I have debated over what to rate this book , trying to decide between 3 and 4 Stars, but finally settling on 4 for originality. She also deserves credit for a job well done, producing an enjoyable story for her debut.
The ending definitely leaves an opening for another book, or books. After the way this ended, I am intrigued to see where the story might lead us!

Thank you, Naomi Valkyrie!

Wow……what a read! I can’t put into words how incredible this book is! I’ve read many books in this genre, but there was just something about this read that made it that much better! Let’s start off by saying how eye-catching and captivating just the front cover is if this doesn’t draw you immediately then read the synopsis which I guarantee will make you not want to put the read down!

I was absolutely captivated from the very beginning with its amazing storyline that’s got action, adventure, danger & romance. To top it all off the characters that this author has created are one of a kind, especially Xenobia. They all feel so real, lovable and relatable as though I was there alongside them experiencing it all with them, I absolutely loved following their journey/story in this read and didn’t want it to end!

While there was a lot of storyline I never once got lost within it, it flowed effortlessly and I couldn’t put it down!

There is one downfall with this book… I now have to wait for book 2. This book is a definite must read and I highly recommend it too all! Naomi Valkyrie you have truly outdone yourself!

I have so many thoughts after reading this author’s debut novel and I’m not sure how to put it all into words, so will try this:

What I loved –
I opened this book prepared for confusion, because debut novels a lot of times do this to me as an author settles in to their comfort zone, but what I love is that the writing felt like I was sitting at a table with this author and she was literally talking to me and telling me this story. That was awesome!

I also loved that I dont choose this genre yet found myself not being able to put this book down.

I loved that the absolutely beautiful cover made me one click but the authors words kept me totally invested in this story and the characters.

Speaking of the characters, Xen was Awesome! I loved her inner dialogue and her strength throughout all that was changing in her life.

I loved how easy and smooth this book felt and I enjoyed every word while reading it in one sitting.

What I didnt love –

ummmm…The next book is not available yet….

Yep that’s it …I can not recommend this book enough and I can not wait to read more from this author.

Outstanding job!!

I absolutely loved this book. The characters were so well thought out and I never once felt lost or confused, even with the changing of character voices we follow, as they’re laid out of who is speaking.
Xenobia was a great character to kick this book off with, what a main leading lady.

The characters are what make this story. It’s multiple POV but there is so much depth to each of them. What an amazing book to read. It includes the paranormal, paranormal creatures, and the situations that they face. One of the reasons I loved the book so much are the characters. At the top of that list is Xenobia. She is smart, independent, and stubborn. She is also kind and protective of those she cares about. Will she be able to face the danger before her and accept her new role and the responsibility that goes with it? Read this book to find out. I found the story is fast-paced and once started hard to put down. There are other characters that I enjoyed reading about such as Xen’s bestie, Maggie. The author writes.in such a way I felt I was right there with the characters. Don’t miss out on a story that is entertaining and intriguing. I highly recommend it.
