Shore Lodge by Susan Specht Oram – Review by Nicole Thompson

Undoubtedly, Shore Lodge by Susan Specht Oram is one of the greatest Psychological Thriller novels I have read in a very long time. I was overwhelmed with intense feelings – my heart racing, my body tense, waiting to see what would happen next. The protagonist, Jacklyn Stone, tragically loses her husband and finds that he has left her with a mountain of debt, unable to liquidate their business. Her children then take her to a retreat that poses a great threat to her, leaving Jacklyn with the task of tapping into her inner courage to retake her life and go home. Filled with gripping twists and turns, this thriller will have readers contemplating how they would fare in such a similar predicament.

The Bullet Theory (Dr. Nolan Mills, #1)The Bullet Theory by Sonya Jesus
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love a good suspense thriller and this book was so on target! The author did an incredible job of weaving the story from beginning to end. There was suspense, murder, mystery, relationships, twists and much more with the turn of every page. The story revolves around a tragedy involving two officers and how they are trying to find their way back to each other, but what the reader doesn’t know is all the little hidden secrets and clues that are woven beautifully. This author is absolutely incredible with her writing style that felt like several of the “big” names out there, like Patterson or Grafton. I was beyond blown away and will automatically make her a one click author moving forward. My only complaint is how fast will the next one be up to grab lol. If you enjoy reading a good suspense novel, with twists, turns, and who done it, that have well developed characters, and a brilliant writing style then you will want to grab this one right away!

The Bullet Theory (Dr. Nolan Mills, #1) by Sonya Jesus
This book pulled me in and broke my heart within the first couple of chapters.

Eleanor is a police officer and when she was called in to help with a case she didn’t realize how much it would change her life. Now she’s trying to move forward and she has set her mind to helping her fiance work on a case, but not for the reason he thinks. She agrees to go see a counselor, this is where she meets Nolan.

Nolan is a psychiatrist who Eleanor believes may have files on the proxy killer and she wants to get her hands on them. Will Eleanor get the revenge she is seeking?

Overall this was a thrilling read, the author pulls you right in. All of the characters added a great element to the story. There are some very emotional scenes that had me ugly crying. The pain that Eleanor went through, no one should ever have to experience. If you’re looking for a great read, 1-click and get started today on this one. I look forward to reading more from this author.

The loss of loved ones is extremely painful for many. Losing a child to murder is something unfathomable for parents. In The Bullet Theory, Sonya Jesus writes about such loss from the views of Eleanor Devero and her therapist Nolan Mills.

Eleanor is a former suspect interrogation specialist that is on unpaid leave after she was shot in an undercover investigation. Eleanor was pregnant and lost the baby. This is the first book I have read from this author and now she has a new fan. I usually don’t read thriller books but for some reason this storyline caught my eye. This is the first book from the Dr.Nolan Mills novels and this is an addictive way to start a new series. Once I started this book I could not put it down until I read the last page. It only took me a full day to devour this amazing story. I can’t wait to read more of this series.

Eleanor Deveraux was involved in a tragic incident and now she has nothing to live for but revenge. She knows her relationship is doomed but she wants to give it one last try. Eleanor starts working together with her fiancé in a case they have been trying to solve. She also finds herself going to therapy trying to see if she can get any closer to the killer that has been causing havoc in this city. Eleanor is trying to find a The Bullet Man so she can ask him to solve her case that is now cold. She will do anything to get her answers but is she closer than she thinks to the truth? Will Eleanor find what she is looking for or will the killer find her first?

5 Stars

This is not my first book by this author but I do think it might be one of my favorites. I could not put it down once I started and in some places had to slow down so I did not finish so fast. The suspense was off the charts and the way this author weaved things around had me all kinds of messed up.

I felt like I truly understood where Eleanor was in this story, all the way through. Her character was written beautifully and I felt the emotions that were written. Another story where the characters were portrayed enough to let you connect with them and Sonya Jesus has that mastered. I also loved this storyline and it was given to me by multiple POVs. This used to not be a favorite of mine but has really grown on me and getting the different perspectives gives me the whole story and I love that.

This book had me asking myself all kinds of questions of what I believe is right and wrong, quite a fine line when you get into this story. I am so happy with how this book ended. I was really worried there for a bit and love that this is book 1 of a new series that I can not wait to read more of.

A definite must read!

The Bullet Theory (Dr. Nolan Mills, #1)The Bullet Theory by Sonya Jesus
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Bullet Theory by Sonya Jesus is a refreshing change to the standard thriller novel. Detective Eleanor Devero is grief stricken after the tragic murder of her unborn son by an unknown assailant. She is struggling to keep a grip on her relationship, has been suspended from her job and just wants to give up on life, but not until she has tracked down her sons killer. When she hears about The Bullet Man, she knows this is the way she will get closure. She is referred to work mandated therapy with Dr Nolan Mills, a psychologist with some interesting hobbies.
I really enjoyed this book, I liked how straight away you were able to see both sides and it was an interesting moral debate on right and wrong. I enjoyed the pace of the book, it was fast enough to keep me interested but not too quick that it missed out important details and didn’t feel rushed. I would really like to read the next book in this series.

The Bullet Theory (Dr. Nolan Mills, #1)The Bullet Theory by Sonya Jesus
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book starts with Eleanor Devero and Kace as they are recovering from the loss of their child and a look into Eleanor’s thought patterns and despair as she spirals further into the darkness in her mind as she thinks about their job and how it puts them in the line of fire and that is exactly why they have lost what they have lost, the scars are there from the physical healing her body has already been going through, but it is the psychological scars which are hitting her hardest at the moment and drawing away from Kace seems to be her only option to stop the pain she is going through, even though he is going through it too. As she remembers the scenario where she was injured, she keeps replaying it trying to figure out who would have done it to her and she cannot accept that the police have stopped investigating and left the case open as there were no clues or leads to follow anymore and that is when she started investigating everyone around her who might even be slightly related to the case, this is also why she is now on unpaid leave and is going to have to attend mandatory counselling sessions. Since the case has been put on the backburner and the case surrounding the Bullet Man has come in, all the focus has been on that and trying to find the proxy killer behind it, but there aren’t many leads to follow there either, or at least, none that are of any use, they are chasing their tails and the only thing turning up are bodies and solved crimes attached to them.

The Bullet Man in question has developed a theory that when a bullet and a tortured heart exist together, the only variable is opportunity and so he has set up an experiment to investigate just that, by choosing test subjects and interacting with them to build up a profile of whether his intervention would help them or not. Having the ability to do this experiment as part of his actual profession gives him access to possible candidates and the resources and ability to solve the unsolvable without bias.

As Eleanor enters the therapist’s office with Kace for her first session, on the outside, she is unkempt, unfocussed and unable to look them in the eye, she is just a mess and a ghost of her former self and that is just the tip of the iceberg, inside, she is hurt, guilty, angry and just a plain wreck of her former self, she also wants revenge. Kace is doing most of the talking though until he is asked to leave so that the two of them can start their individual session before moving onto joint sessions as a couple. After the session Kace asks how she got on and Eleanor explains her homework to him and this bring up more feelings to the surface that she would rather weren’t there, they then go to the precinct where she can start to work with Kace on the Bullet Man case and start to get her bearings back and Kace thinks that her insights could help them with solving the case, but with all that Eleanor knows about the Bullet Man, she only wants to hire him.

What Eleanor doesn’t realise is that the therapist who she has been sent to is the Bullet Man and that as she is trying to piece herself back together with his help, he is also studying her, but when things come to a head, will Eleanor be able to decide what to do and will she follow her instincts or run as far away as she can? This is a thriller with twists and turns which keep you guessing throughout and at the fast pace you will go through this book, it is well worth giving it your full attention.

The Bullet Theory by Sonya Jesus a gripping five-star read. This is number one in the Dr Nolan Mills series and my goodness the darkness in this story, the twists and turns will keep you guessing and hooked on every page, you won’t want to put it down for anything. Dr Nolan Mills may be the character the series is based around, but Eleanor was the standout for me, at first, I didn’t warm to her and found her behaviour off, but as the story progressed, she grew into a great character. This story will hold your attention and show you a different side of grief, one we normally don’t get to see. This has great characters and a story that will keep you hooked.

Psychological Mystery that will make you think twice before going to therapy.

This book was amazing. Psychological mystery is my favorite genre. I have read several books by Sonya Jesus before but this one is my favorite (for now). Her storytelling has so many details that it paints a picture in my mind that I cannot forget. She leaves details everywhere but if you are not paying attention you will miss the subtle clue. Her characters are complex and realistic. I find myself relating to the characters and I feel like I am having a relationship with them. This story took me on a roller coaster ride of a lifetime. I was bracing myself because there were so many twists and turns. There was more than one time that I thought I knew exactly what was going on and then BAM! The unexpected twist comes into play. In this story, Eleanor is having a relationship fall apart before her eyes, She wants revenge for what she has gone through. That is until her fiancé makes her talk to a therapist. This is where the story picks up. You will have to read the book to see what happens next. I highly recommend this book to see what happens next. You will not believe your eyes.

I was hooked from page one by this psychological thriller as it was full of drama and suspense. Eleanor Deveraux only has one thing left to live for and that is, revenge. When her fiancé suggests working together on a case to salvage their relationship, Eleanor ends up begrudgingly attending a session with therapist Dr. Nolan Mills. However, the only reason she completes his ‘homework assignments’ is because she wants the case files on the havoc causing proxy killer. Eleanor does not want to solve the case to stop the vigilante and his bullet messages, she wants to hire him. As he is known to be able to solve unsolvable cases, all she needs is the name of the killer. But when Eleanor discovers the identity of the killer and he gives her an opportunity to get her revenge she has to decide whether to take the shot or turn him in. This was a real page turner of a novel and very unpredictable with all the plot twists in it. The storyline flows nicely and the descriptive narrative really brings the characters to life making me feel fully engaged in the story. It was a gripping story full of drama and suspense but also romance and it took me on an emotional rollercoaster along with the characters. I particularly felt Eleanor’s pain and heartbreak and understood her need for revenge. This was a complex but enjoyable read which kept me happily turning the pages wanting to find out how it would end but equally not wanting the story to end.

I just love all of Sonya Jesus’s novels so when I saw she was putting out a new psychological thriller I could not wait to get my hands on it. This is book one in the her newest series, Dr. Nolan Mills, and I promise you this will legit blow your socks off. I was so sucked into this book I literally had to remove myself from people to devour it because I was turning into a grumpy mama bear with each distraction. I could not put this sucker down and it has quickly become my favorite novel yet from Sonya.

This thing is jam packed with adventure, action, revenge, mystery, psychological plot twists and more. I was so invested in finding out how things would turn out for the main character Eleanor. She has had enough of her failing relationship and now she has her mind set on revenge. She seeks a therapist to help her through this, Dr. Nolan Mills. The doctor quickly becomes a man of mystery and intrigue making you second guess everything you read about him. This book will make you feel as if you are watching a crazy movie, complete with the yelling and tossing objects at the characters, only with a kindle. I cannot wait to see where the next book will take us and I so so need it like yesterday! This is one killer book hangover but oh so worth every bit of it!!

Talk about a page turner! I read this in about 3.5 hours. I couldn’t stop! The story drew me in. It’s dark and twisty…perfect thing to me up into the night. The characters are equally evil and complex. Did I laugh or cry at this? no but my eyes stayed glued to the pages anyway.

While this is the Nolan Mills series…Elle completely captivated me. We learn more about her as the story progresses. She comes of flakey but she is strong and impressively smart. Kacey I am not overly impressed with. He would be one that could be left behind. I know…I know they have a shared history. Yeah wrong choices and all that but not sure that forgiveness is the key with them.

I did enjoy the tasks that Dr Nolan gave them to work on. Great idea! I do look forward to more in this series. This is a twisty romantic thriller.

The Bullet Theory is the first book in the Dr. Nolan Mills series by Sonya Jesus. It is such an intriguing and exciting start to her new series and something a little different from the other books of hers that I have read.
I love the original and clever premise to the story- and love that Sonya Jesus had me wondering how things would play out for most of the way through the book. It definitely captured my attention, as well as my imagination- I couldn’t put it down for fear of missing something. So, I ended up reading it in one thrilling session- and came away wanting more (in a good way).
This book is a fully contained story, so there is not major cliffhanger as such- but it does leave room for more instalments- sooooo, I really can’t wait to get my hands on the next book to find out where we go from here. I neeeeed book two- STAT!!!! I volunteer to do all of Sonya Jesus’s housework, cooking, cleaning, and any other chores- just so she can concentrate on getting the next book done ASAP 😊.
As with her other books, this story was a wonderfully detailed and descriptive- and Sonja Jesus created quite a lot of intensity, intrigue, and tension- making me think- wondering where the story was leading and pretty much kept me guessing the whole way through.
This is a gripping story told from several POV’s- which really gave a great perspective of what was going on- while creating enough intrigue and suspense to keep me completely invested in the outcome.
As I have mentioned in the past, Ms. Jesus is quite skilled when it comes to character her development. Creating characters who are fully realised individuals, with interesting and complex personalities, quirk, and flaws. They really were so interesting- and the story was all the more exciting for their involvement.
With murder, mystery, suspense, jealousy, betrayal, revenge, dirty deals, flashbacks, tension, emotion, and romance- this book is a must read. Seriously, go grab a copy and dive in- you will be happy you did!
There is absolutely no doubt that I will be reading the next book! I need it like, yesterday!!!

Thank you, Sonya Jesus!
