The Scene (Dylan Hart #1)The Scene by R.M. Gilmore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Scene is the first book in the Dylan Hart Series by R.M. Gilmore. This book was even better than I’d imagined. I was hooked right from the beginning, completely engrossed by the unfolding story. R.M Gilmore has such a detailed and descriptive style- bringing all her words to ‘life’ and giving it a dynamic and exciting quality that made it impossible to put down.
Dylan Hart is a journalist who is on the trail of the story of a lifetime- investigating the possibility of vampires as murder victims turn up drained of blood. But things soon get complicated and dangerous. Things aren’t quite what they seem. Dylan’s investigation has put a target on her back, and she is soon fighting for her life. What happens makes for a thrilling read.
I will be one-clicking the rest of this series to explore asap!
Fantastic!

Thank you, R.M Gilmore!

The Scene (Dylan Hart #1)The Scene by R.M. Gilmore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give The Scene (Dylan Hart Book 1) by R.M. Gilmore, 5 atars.

I absolutely loved this book! If I could, I would give it 10 stars. It is so refreshing to see something new in the mystery/whodunit genre. Yes, it is more common to have female lead characters and mysteries dealing with the occult and supernatural nowadays, but the way the author puts all of this together makes for a hysterical, gripping read. It reminded me heavily of the show Kolchak: Night Stalker, but female and much, much snarkier. I instantly fell in love with Dylan. Bigger than most girls with a personality to match, she is just what I want to see in a lead. She knows she isn’t perfect, but she tries to overcome her insecurities and work with what she has. Then there are the secondary characters. Her best friend is amazing and just what you would expect for Dylan. Then there are the men — my jury is still out on them, but again I hope to see more of them.

Let us not forget the story itself. It based around some murders of women that are quite strange. Dylan decides to look into it more and the deeper she goes, the more she realizes she needs to solve this. Along the way, she begins to question her sanity when it looks like it could be vampires. The author pulls all of the elements together perfectly and throws you right into the story. She does such a seamless job of it, you have to remember where you are when you close the book.

If you are a fan of dark, snarky female leads in a mystery suspense dealing with the supernatural, this book is definitely for you. The subject matter and language is quite adult at times, so make sure you are okay with this first. If you like the edgier side of things, get this book now!

5-stars

The Scene (Dylan Hart Series Book 1) by R.M. Gilmore was exciting and intriguing. Dylan was on the hunt for why girls were showing up dead as if a vampire had killed them for her book. Little did she know that she would get pulled in and put herself on the killer’s radar. Her character was hilarious, witty, and smart. I loved her way of thinking and her frequent conversations with herself. I also loved bff Tatum. Those two were like two peas in a pod. It was amazing how in sync they were and how easily they worked together to find out information. I loved their shenanigans in this book. This was such an excellent read. I can’t wait to get started on the next book. I easily give it 5-stars.

Endless Night (Dylan Hart Book 2) by R.M. Gilmore was exciting and fun. I loved this second book in this series. Dylan is absolutely wonderful. He character is my favorite and she never ceases to amaze me. I had to officially come to terms with Malcom and Tatum as an item in this book. I wondered if they would be a thing in this book at the end of book one. I liked Cyrus more in this novel than the first. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

Like the first book, this story was easy to follow and get lost in. It kept me interested and was full of interesting things. I highly recommend this book and the series. It’s an easy 5-star read.

This book turned out different then I expected and I loved it. The entire time I was reading this story I kept trying to figure out who was doing these heinous crimes. Dylan’s character is different from most, she is a short fuller woman with attitude, and wit, I loved her. This story has vampires, suspense, danger, wit and wonderful characters. There were unexpected twists and turns, I had a hard time putting this book down because I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. Endless Night by R.M. Gilmore is the second book in the Dylan Hart series. This is a brilliant follow up to the first book. I would advise to read them in order as it follows the same character.
It was so good to get back into the character that is Dylan. She was just as strong and entertaining as in the first book. The story has been well developed, building on what the first book established. I was instantly drawn back into the characters and the story. It was interesting, entertaining and just great writing. I cannot wait for book 3!

The story Endless Night (Dylan Hart Book 2) by R.M. Gilmore is a book that is thrilling to read. It is a paranormal/horror story that had my heart beating faster with each chapter that I read. In this story, Dylan finds herself in New Orleans. She has been invited by an old acquaintance. Once there she finds that she has a new foe. How much danger is Dylan in? Will she survive her trip to New Orleans? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I love the character of Dylan as she is not shy about saying what she means or providing her opinion. She is strong and independent. I enjoyed that many of the characters from the first book are brought forward into this one. There is an atmosphere of mystery. I love that the book is set in New Orleans. The story had me hooked from the very beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. The book has wonderful detail and I felt like I was right there with Dylan. 5 out of 5 stars

The story The Scene (Dylan Hart Series Book 1) by R.M. Gilmore is a horror book that kept me turning pages. I was always wondering what would happen next. It pulled me in from the very beginning and once started I found myself not able to put it down. I loved the character of Dylan Hart. She is strong, independent, sassy, has plenty of wits, and determination. She is a journalist that is looking into a story. A story that includes vampires. What will she find? Read this book to find out. Dylan is sassy and can easily turn on the sarcasm when needed. She is a likable character and I found myself quickly rooting for her to find out the truth of the story she is working on. The story has action, suspense, danger, and some chilling scenes. I have loved stories about vampires and the occult for a long time and this story is a good example of why. There are twists and turns in the book that I didn’t see coming. There are quite a few additional characters that are introduced. Some I enjoyed reading about, such as Dylan’s bestie, and then others who are mysterious, and I had to wonder what their real agenda is. Don’t miss out on a story that will have you glued to the pages until the ending. I would highly recommend reading it.

The Scene by R.M. Gilmore a thrilling five-star read. This is the first novel in the Dylan Hart series and what a start, I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the rest of the series. Dylan Hart just made me smile so much, honestly the character was sublime, there was just something warm and fuzzy with a scrappiness to it. The thing is Dylan is great, but the rest of the characters just brought out so much of the story, it had me laughing one-minute biting my nails in the next. This was just an engaging and compelling story that you would be sad to miss.

The Scene (Dylan Hart series Book 1) by R.M Gilmore
4 Stars

Dylan Hart is a journalist. She decides to write a book to pay off her student loans. There is a serial killer on the loose. All his victims were left bloodless as if a vampire killed them. There is no better fodder for her book than this. While chasing down clues and doing research, she puts herself in the killer’s sights. Dylan has to fight for her life while trying to figure out who the killer is. Who can she trust when everyone is a suspect?

I really liked Dylan as a character. She was a no nonsense, down to earth kind of girl who had normal insecurities and self confidence issues. Being on the bigger side, she has never had the “hot guy” after her. Now that Cyrus is interested in her, can she trust him? I didn’t like Tatum. I almost wished she was one of the victims. I know that’s mean but the way she treated Dylan is not the way you should be treating your best friend.

The story introduces you to the underground culture of vampirism; the clubs, cults and people who believe themselves to be vampires. This is not your typical vampire novel. The author never confirms that any of the characters are vampires leaving you constantly guessing. You are forever walking the line between believing they really are or that they are nut jobs who think they are. Though at times I found the book a little long, it was well written and the storyline kept me interested. I’m looking forward to reading book two to see what other trouble Dylan can get into.

This is the second book in this series and I loved it just as much if not more than the first book. One of the things I enjoy about this author’s writing is how she creates details that make me feel as if I am part of the story. I have no problem connecting with the characters. If you have not read the first book, I highly suggest it as it will help get to know the characters more. The lovable Dylan is back in this story and headed to New Orleans this time. She is dealing with vampires and this time we add voodoo and curses to it. Dylan is still my favorite with the sassy attitude and humor it really just makes her a well rounded character. I highly recommend this must read book and this series.

Dylan is a journalist that takes on an assignment of a lifetime until it turns dangerous. The question remains if she will survive? How many more will turn up dead? Could the murderer really be a vampire? I loved Dylan’s character, she is full of attitude and she doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her. She is strong and seems to get herself in danger easily. 17 Marigold Lane was a great 5 star read and book one in the Prudence Penderhaus series.

My heart was squeezed and I got teary eyed fairly quickly after I started this book. My heart went out to Prudence. Not only has she received some very heartbreaking news, but she endures bullying while on her way to school. This is something that has been an everyday thing for her.

She decides she has nothing to lose and goes up to the supposed haunted house that everyone is afraid to go to. There are rumors of a coffin in the living room along with other spooky things. When she knocks on the door an unexpected person comes to the door, someone she never expected to meet, a boy her age.

Cassius has never been out in the world. As he gets to know Prudence she convinces him to go outside with her. When Cassius starts to do inappropriate things Prudence feels responsible for him. There are several more unexpected twists and we find out some secrets that were thought long buried away.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. Prudence is a very strong young lady, that has gone through a lot. Cassius tugged at my heart strings and he had a great connection with Prudence. These two made my heart smile. I will warn that you may need kleenex, my heart broke for the things that Cassius went through. R.M. Gilmore pulled me right in, I can’t wait to read more from this series.

17 Marigold Lane by R.M. Gilmore is the first book in the Prudence Penderhaus series. Prudence is a high school senior who has been dealt a terrible medical diagnosis. People think she is an odd girl and so she has only a few friends. Despite the obstacles, she is a sweet and caring girl who decides to go to the local “spook house”. There she meets an odd boy. What else will her curiosity bring to her life?
I really enjoyed the story and especially the characters. Prudence is an independent spirit who does not have to be at the front of the crowd. She is confident, sweet, and smart. I did not put this down until I had finished and I look forward to more in this series.

17 Marigold Lane (Prudence Penderhaus Book 1) by R.M. Gilmore was amazing. I mean holy cow amazing. This was a wonderful well thought out novel featuring two amazing main characters. Cassius and Pru both had layers upon layers of character that was slowly revealed from page one. Cassius has Asperger’s and Pru is diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. These two alone made for a complex and compelling storyline thought easily kept my attention. It was interesting to see how the two became fast friends and seemed to help the other make sense of the world. I absolutely loved it. This is also the first book I have read by this author. 17 Marigold Lane (Prudence Penderhaus Book 1) by R.M. Gilmore is a YA coming of age story. Once you start, you won’t be able to stop reading. It is well written with well developed characters. It is a story where the plot is dark and the subject is intriguing and enthralling, and emotions run high. This somber story is as mysterious as it is at times funny but it is also a little sad and will make your heart break it is also interesting and different that you need to know what is going to happen.

Pru is different and has no friends that is until she decides to face her fear and confront 17 Marigold Lane head on. What is finds is nothing compared to what she finds out later and the poor soul who has lived a life of torture.

A must read.

17 Marigold Lane (Prudence Penderhaus Book 1) by R.M. Gilmore. This is the story of Prudence Penderhaus. Prudence is the freak of Flintock, PA. Prudence is made fun of, laughed at and the butt of all jokes. I found Prudence to be independent, sweet and very caring. I fell in love with Prudence and wanted to be her friend especially after her diagnosis from the doctor. After hearing this news Prudence goes about life differently. Its like she’s had her eyes opened and everything is new and different. When Prudence goes up to the Spook house in town and finds a boy named Cassius “Cass” Shooster that no one knew existed she thinks this boy is her person that she has needed her whole life. Cass is Autistic or “on the spectrum” so he and Prudence relate on a lot of things. Having a friend like Cass can change Prudence’s life. She becomes happier and has more confidence. This is a sweet, emotional story that I loved! Can’t wait til the next book!

17 Marigold Lane17 Marigold Lane by R.M. Gilmore

17 Marigold Lane is the first book in the Prudence Penderhaus series by R.M Gilmore. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Gilmore, so I was intrigued to see what I would discover once I opened the cover. This is a bit of an emotional young adult story with lots of mystery, humour, secrets, lies, courage, learning to live in the face of death, the dreaded “C” word, and so much more.
I didn’t expect to discover a story with quite as much depth as this has, or one which gave me pause in a thought-provoking way. I thought the author did a really wonderful job of developing and ‘growing’ her characters- they really added an extra element of interest to the whole story. The plot was really well developed too, but I think the story is more character driven, because without these quirky, off-beat, and endearing characters, the story just wouldn’t be the same.
Prudence was anything but your typical 17 year-old. She’s socially awkward and bit of an outcast. But things change dramatically when she gets a grim diagnosis. She decides to throw caution to the wind and do the things that she’d always been too afraid to do. Which is where this story really takes off. Add Cassius to the mix, and the plot takes a wonderful turn. Cass is on the Autism/Asperger’s spectrum, but seems to be high functioning. He’s just as socially awkward as she is, and so they are well suited and make a great ‘team’. When mystery arrives, these two take us on an intriguing, and quite touching adventure….. and the story is set to continue in the next book. Although it was a little slow in the beginning, this didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of this story.
I can’t wait for book two and will definitely be pouncing on it as soon as it releases.
A really great little read!

Thank you, R,M Gilmore!

How is this my first book by this author?? An author who had me like completely hooked from page 1 of this book. There was a time while reading I was tripping over the words I was reading so fast, I wasn’t skimming because you can’t while reading this and you don’t want to..it was quite a struggle there for a bit and I felt in some ways like I was literally in the story, like right next to Prudence, who by the way became my hero in this book. I don’t care how old she was, I wanted to be her! Well, her in every way except for her health struggles.

This was an Awesomely brilliant story, I loved every word and even all the unanswered questions that Im left with because it gives me something to look forward to in the next of this series. There were a few lines in this book that I loved but the one Id never heard before that literally cracked me up was “as dumb as chewing gum while eating oreos” Not sure why that got to me so much but it did and Ive used it now in my real life a few times LOL

I haven’t even mentioned Cassius yet…I love this odd boy, I just want to hug him and squeeze him and protect him forever. I can not wait for more, truly I will be straight up stalking this author!!!

One of my favorite reads so far this year!

LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!!

So Surprisingly Good! I am beyond glad I picked up this book. I originally wasn’t sure because it said the Mc had cancer and she is a teen. I wasn’t wanting to read a sad story. This one isNOT that! Yes it’s there but it’s in the background for a large portion of the story. Prudence Penderhaus is a wonderful name! I loved it from the get go. Her change in life started a rollercoaster of events….some good and others bad. I saw her growth, strength and fearlessness as the story rolled along. I was very proud of her! Cassius Shooster( again excellent name)..not only did I feel sorry for him but I also felt hope for him. I loved his character and his growth as well. So many changes from beginning to end.

I have to give a “HEY” to Bonnie! She is a girl who gets thing done and seems to always be in the right place at the right time. At first I didn’t care for her but as the story changed she became a large part in this wonderful story. Especially after we met her BF.

This is my first book by this author. I can not tell you how much I was glued to these pages. I even thought about it while I was away and couldn’t wait to get back so I could continue. It’s full of action, suspense and friendship. I Flipping Loved It! With the ending hopefully there will be another one.

17 Marigold Lane was such a wonderful read, when I first read the blurb I was a little unsure as it was quite vague but there was something about it that intrigued me so I thought I would give it a go and I am so glad I did – I think it is definitely up there with one of my top reads of 2019. I loved the emotions that this story brought out in me, something that I really wasn’t expecting when I first picked up the book. The authors writing really drew me into the lives of the characters and I felt a good connection with them. I loved Prudence and reading her story, she had so many struggles to overcome and I really did feel everything that she did – I laughed and cried with her. The way in which the author portrayed Cassius’s character I think it commendable, there was probably some temptation to write about him in a stereotypical way but I could tell how much the author had thought about him and his character.
This really was a wonderful read and one that I highly recommend! This is also the first book that I have read by this author, I have no idea why but I can 100% say I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a story about a young girl called Pru who has been diagnosed with a life changing illness that causes her to rethink life and be bold.

This bold move takes her to 17 Marigold Lane, the house everyone calls the spooky house. The rumours around the town is that vampires live there and coffins were in the living room.
However as Pru found out the reality was different from the truth. Instead of coffins Pru found a young man living there called Cassius.

Cassius is a strange boy with strange habits but everything isnt what it seems with Cassius and his family. Pru starts to build a friendship with Cassius and begins to unravel a mystery that has been around for 14 years.

This book is an amazing read with lots of twists, but what i like about it is it takes two topics (Cancer in a young person and Aspergers Syndrome) and portrays them in a respectful and informative way. Showing that just because people may seem different we are all human and deserved to be treated right not bullied or discriminated against
