Notebook Mysteries ~ Decisions and Possibilities by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Rebecca Hill

Decisions and Possibilities (Notebook Mysteries #2)Decisions and Possibilities by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Notebook Mysteries is the second book in the Decisions and Possibilities series. It centers around 18 year old Emma Evans. It is technically in the Young Adults genre of reading, but anyone would enjoy this book. While this book does stand alone, it references what happened in the first book several times, so it would be best to read the books in order. I really enjoy historical fiction, and I enjoyed the mystery in this book as well. Emma is observant and sweet while still being direct. It’s the perfect read if you like mysteries and/or historical fiction!

A Divided Mind (The Divided Series Book 1) by M. Billiter – Review by Rebecca Hill

A Divided MindA Divided Mind by M. Billiter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Divided Mind tells the story of a mother whose son, Branson, is mentally ill. The story is told from her perspective, her son’s perspective, and some other character’s perspectives. It was fascinating reading about Branson’s illness and how it progresses. While reading, I suspected that some things he experiences may not have been real. I also grieved alongside his mother, Tara. What a difficult road. This was a phenomenal, in-your-head read, but I hated the epilogue. Well worth the time to read as I have continued to think about Branson and Tara since I finished the story.

Journeys Through TimeSpace Is the second book in the Journeys Through series. I highly recommend reading the first book before reading the second one. The books really build on each other, and it wouldn’t be as good of a read alone. This is another not fluffy read that really makes you think. The characters really pulled me in, and I loved how I related to their friendship and bond together. James Talisman is a talented author, and he weaves a wonderful tale that is worth the time!

Cursed Whispers (Broderick Coven, #3)Cursed Whispers by A.J. Renee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cursed Whispers by AJ Renee is the third book in the Broderick Coven series. This series is centered around the Broderick family. The siblings have discovered that they come from a family of witches and that they all have powers. Each book centers around a sibling as that sibling learns more about their powers. This book is about Max Broderick. He has the gift of hearing animals’ thoughts and talking to them in their head. This comes in handy when he meets an injured werewolf. I have really enjoyed this series and enjoyed this book as well. But an important note – there is a trigger warning for anyone affected by rape or sex trafficking. This book was also pretty graphic in the sex scenes. I still enjoyed watching Claudia overcome all that she had been through as well as meeting her adorable daughter Katia. Fantastic series with relatable characters!

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes – Review by Rebecca Hill

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight #2)The Singer and Her Song by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Singer and Her Song is the second book in the Empire at Twilight series. This book easily stands alone. To be completely honest, I did not like this book. You may be thinking wait, didn’t you give it 4 stars? I did not like it, but I could not put it down. I stayed up most of the night once I started reading this story. It was so good and such a challenging book. Uqnitum was so frustrating, and I wanted to shake her! Her story was tragic and hard. My heart was broken for her over and over again. She became a person that even she didn’t like to be able to survive the horrors in her life. This story was gut wrenching but thought provoking. What would you sacrifice for your kids? Don’t read this book to be entertained; read this mother’s story to be changed.

An Enduring LoveAn Enduring Love by Wareeze Woodson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love historical romances, and I love Wareeze Woodson’s writing. I spent much of the book angry with Rhys! How can this man be so obtuse?! Rebecca and Rhys had only been married a few months when they were separated through no fault of their own. Rhys believes Rebecca to be dead and is stunned to find out this isn’t true. It was a horrifying situation for them to be in. Overall, I loved the mystery and how it all came together in the end. But that Rhys!

Alterations (Alterations #1)Alterations by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What would you do if someone offered you a way to lose weight quickly and easily with no surgery and no side effects? How about if they offered to treat a chronic illness that you have? Or maybe help you overcome bitterness and anger towards an ex? Would you do it? In Alterations, find out what three women will choose to do and what the consequences are in their lives. This was a very fast read, and I loved the concept and story. The only thing I didn’t like was that it felt very incomplete due to being the first book in a series. I recommend reading this story as well as the rest of the series!

BittersweepBittersweep by Wareeze Woodson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Once again, I really enjoyed this historical romance by Wareeze Woodson. I happen to be a huge fan of historical romance, but if you aren’t, there is a nice amount of mystery and who done it to keep the reader involved. The book takes place in 1897 in Bittersweep, Texas. Elizabeth Clarke has returned to the town where her mother died under the false name of Campbell. She never plans on meeting and falling in love with JP Honeycutt. I loved trying to figure out who was involved in the bank robbery. The book keeps you guessing on all of the details until the very end. This one is worth every minute of your time!

I am a big fan of historical romance, and this story did not let me down. It takes place in the year 1802. We meet Isabel Carlyle and Lord Matthew Rutherford. Isabel desperately wants to get away from her half brother Edgar. Matthew doesn’t realize that Edgar is not trustworthy and that Edgar has been stealing from him. I spent a lot of the story wanting to scream at Matt and tell him to wake up! Neither Isabel nor Matt realize that they love each other. Enjoy reading how they discover their love and thwart the men who want to do them harm!

Some books are what I call fluff writing. This is definitely not fluff writing. This is not a book that you will sit down and breeze through while distracted by your kids. It will draw you in and captivate you, but you need to pay attention. There are a lot of characters and changes, so you can’t just skim your way through. It is a fascinating read, and I look forward to more from James Talisman.

Caim (Antipodes #4)Caim by T.S. Simons
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Caim is the 4th book in the Antipodes series by T.S. Simons. I read the last three books of this four book series, and it just got better and better. I had a hard time putting this book down. While the other books tell the story from multiple perspectives but mostly from Cam’s, this story is mostly told from the point of Freyja. We are several years past book three, and Freyja and Cam have had two more kids. This book is full of their struggle with Clava as well as with Angus. I was surprised at the turn their story took but loved reading it. I highly recommend reading this series and from the beginning!

The Arsonist's Handbook: A Gripping Psychological ThrillerThe Arsonist’s Handbook: A Gripping Psychological Thriller by L.A. Detwiler
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have to admit I struggled a bit with this book. It is so dark, but the twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. It was an interesting read though. I really enjoyed the normalcy of the characters and that they all clearly have flaws like all of us do. Not only can we all relate to personal flaws, we can also relate to family dysfunction. This book was fascinating as a psychological thriller, and I definitely recommend it if this is your kind of story.

I enjoyed reading this book so much. Everything I have read by Jessica Aiken-Hall so far has been a fantastic read. She is such a good author. The main character in this story is Molly. Her much older brother is Marc. When he comes home for a visit, Molly discovers Marc’s high school girlfriend has been missing for 20 years and has a strange resemblance to Molly. So she dives into the mystery of what happened to Lucy Minor and why Molly looks like her. As the reader, I felt like I had a lot of the mystery figured out. Boy was I wrong! The end of the book had such twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. It was such an addictive read, and I loved it!

Ouroboros (Antipodes #3)Ouroboros by T.S. Simons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ouroboros is the third book in the Antipodes series by T.S. Simons. I joined this series with the second book. In the second book, I spent time lost in the characters and trying to figure out who was who. This time, having read the 2nd, I spent much less time confused. I would highly recommend starting with the first book in the series. The books can be read alone but are much better read in a series. This book picks up Cam’s story where we left off in the 2nd. Campbell is grieving the loss of his wife. He goes on a solo journey tracking down Laetitia’s family and their past. Ultimately, he ends up back together with his first wife, Freyja. Together, they discover a plot that threads through all of the communities, affecting every facet of their life. Once again, T.S. Simons weaves a wonderful story of overcoming and love. This book is thought provoking and worth the read.

Dragons by Ty Drago – Review by Rebecca Hill

DragonsDragons by Ty Drago
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading this story, I am now a huge fan of Ty Drago! Dragons begins with Andy Brand waking up in a futuristic jail cell. He has no idea who kidnapped him or why he is there. Then he hears a voice. The Voice asks him to light a paper on fire. Andy pretends to not know how he could do that, but we learn that he is a supernatural being called the Kind. The Kind live among us as humans but have a powerful heat inside them that they call their dragon. The story goes from there into space and into rescuing a mining colony on a moon of Jupiter. It seems fairly cut and dry, but there is a twist. Andy’s world tips on his axis, but in the process, he learns more about himself. This story was sci-fi and completely fantastic! I could not put it down nor could I even predict what was going to happen. It is your next must read!

I loved this book. It is the first in a series, and I cannot wait for the next book. The main character is a priest, named Ciaran. He is a celtic priest who is converted to Christianity and is ultimately put to death for his new beliefs. But, he doesn’t die. He wakes up in the year 1966 and meets the lovely Caitlin. It was a lot of fun following Ciaran as he learns about the modern world. It kept me smiling and wondering how he was going to keep his secret. I recommend checking this book out!
